Funny how sex is an irresistible human urge when a man rapes a woman but when a woman gets pregnant and wants an abortion she should have been smarter and thought twice before having sex if she didnât want a child

Abigail gave a slight nod in agreement when Tally said her mom was intimidating, not able to argue with such a statement, after all she was right. âIâll be sure to take notes.â Abigail promised playfully at Tallyâs comment as she bought them each a box of M&Ms; she had no intention to eat the ones she bought for herself, opting instead to save them for some later date with which she could surprise Tally. They found their seats in the middle of the theatre, Abigail going through the act of counting the seats to ensure they were in the middle. âThis good?â She asked Tally, glancing back at her as they stood in front of two seats.Â
The way that she made the effort to get them the best seat in the house made Tally grin, noticing the way she even counted each seat. âPerfect,â she hummed happily as she sat down, immediately tangling her fingers in Abigailâs as the advertisements played on the large movie screen. She knew that her girlfriend was a perfectionist but it was another thing seeing it play out in such a context, it made her smile, a lot. âThis is the best seat in the whole theater. You have good taste.â She opened her m&ms with the aid of her teeth, only because she didnât want to let go of Abigailâs hand. âIâm having fun already, you know.â
Abigail glanced down at their hands briefly, something she had been doing each time Tally once again took her hand, surprised by how a simple act made her heart pound and her blood warm. âIâm glad youâre enjoying yourself, I like seeing you happy.â She commented simply. âI love you Tals.â She spoke softly, wondering if she would ever feel like those three words were enough to express the depth of what she felt for her unit mate.
She goes where I go. Scyllaâs my girlfriend.
So the other night my mom was upstairs on a zoom call with The Council of Retired White Moms (her book club) , my dad was downstairs working out, and my brother and I were cleaning up the kitchen, which obviously requires a soundtrack.
Now, you know how sometimes youâre like âalexa, play [a song]â and sheâs like âplaying [a totally different song] on TSTâs spotifyâ? or maybe she just decides to play literally nothing instead? My workaround has always been to select the Echo as thr output device in the spotify app. It works like 80% of the time.
As such, when Alexa couldnât manage to play my great kitchen cleaning jam on the night at issue, I opened spotify, selected the kitchen echo, and pressed play. When the Echo didnât respond, I just assumed it was just the usual spotify/alexa bullshit... until theďżź screaming began.
This next part is important: there are 32 devices on our network and nobody but me ever names them. So when Iâm selecting a device to play spotify on, I have to pick the right speaker out from a long list of random alphanumeric gibberish. I usually guess right, but I do occasionally fuck it up. Accordingly, it came to pass that I had not told Spotify to play my music on the kitchen echo; I had actually selected the iHome in my momâs office.
Mom originally bought the iHome to play NPR loud enough that she could hear it from any room in the house. Itâs not a smart speaker, though, and mom (like the majority of boomers) prefers to use voice commands. Once she got her own Echo, she just basically forgot about the iHome. More importantly, she forgot how to use it, and then, it seems, forgot that it was a speaker system at all - a few weeks prior to the events of this story, I was trying to troubleshoot her computer and had a private and very sensible chuckle to myself when she incidentally referred to it as âthat digital clock.â
For the past few years itâs just been lurking silently on her desk next to her laptop.
Waiting.
As a result, when the iHome unexpectedly lurched back to life at its customary maximum volume, neither my mother nor the 25+ other Women of a Certain Age in her book club had any idea of:
a) where the music was coming from, or
b) how to stop it
I had started up the stairs in response to the screaming, but I paused (out of momâs line of sight) when I realized what was happening.
âSTOP IT!â My mom was out of her chair and screaming. âWHAT IS THAT!? NO! ALEXA, STOP IT! ALEXA! STOP PLAYING!â
A greek chorus of distraught book club attendees was echoing her sentiments over the laptop speakers, the monitor displaying the horrified face of each speaker in incredibly rapid succession.
âALEXA!â My mom shouted at the mesh router point, âMAKE IT STOP! NO! NO! NO!â
(âDid you mean âset a timer?ââ the Echo in her bedroom asked politely.)
The song, naturally, did not stop, and mom did not think to mute her laptop or pull the power cord from the iHome. Instead, she whirled around several times held her arms out in a sort of T-pose, as if she could physically stop the book club attendees from hearing the song Iâd picked out.
I will say this for the iHome - sure, itâs old tech, but even at max volume, the lyrics could be understood with perfect clarity.
Now, this would have probably been funny regardless of the song I had chosen as my kitchen clean-up jam. I know that. But the actual song that my momâs book club encountered that night is what raises the whole thing from âamusing anecdoteâ to âgenuinely incredible.â
If you have been following me for a while, youâll know that I tend to think of myself as a real prankster. A rascal, a scamp, a jester of a woman. I have engineered a few comedic misadventures in my day. But I have to be humble here... what I unintentionally accomplished that night was so much funnier than anything I have ever done on purpose. It was the absolute apex of comedy.
The song I had chosen, dear readers, was WAP.
no one writes love stories better than aromantics sendÂ
The amount of care and detail aroaces put into writing steamy romances is unreal.
The thing is we canât rely on âlove at first sightâ or âit just isâ logic because we donât have that button, so instead we build relationships up and up and up, realistically, the only way we could imagine love happeningÂ
us đ aro đ aces đ make đ it đ happen đ
Aroaces writing romance:
listen asexuals have written some of THE kinkiest hot shit and i can testify that that is because they do not find the mechanics of sex interesting in and of itself, so they look at the scene and say âhow can I make this spicyâ
Same reason queer romance stories are so often better than straight ones. When the standard literary shortcuts donât work all thatâs left is to knuckle down and actually put in the work.
Regular romance novels: the second I saw them I was overcome with lust.
Ace writers, taking notes: okay yeah but why.

Abigail laughed warmly at the display, taking Tallyâs arm looped through hers in an equally showy manner. âWhy thank you kindly.â She grinned as she laughed and pulled Tally close enough to kiss her playfully. âDonât worry about my mom Tals, I promise thereâs nothing for you to stress about.â She assured her as they walked towards the line up and stood behind the other people waiting in line. âYou want to go see the cheesy rom com?â She clarified, not caring what they saw as long as Tally was happy. She just wanted them to be together.
The way that she laughed warmed her heart, as did her arm slipping through hers. She was so smitten with her, and knew that she was going to fall even more with every passing day. As the brunette warned her not to worry about her mother, she shrugged her shoulders noncommittally. âIâll try, but sheâs pretty intimidating,â Tally pointed out, though sheâd thought the same of Abigail when theyâd first met. As the two of them stood in line, she heard the question posed to her and shrugged her shoulders. âSure, if you donât mind. Maybe itâll give you some ideas..â She teased, smiling when they made it to the front of the line. After letting Abigail ask for their tickets, Tally requested a box of M&Ms, which she hadnât had in waaaay too long.

âHonestly Iâve never really been on one either, not one that mattered anyway.â She noted with a sigh and a slight laugh. âMost of the dates Iâve been on have been arranged by my mother with other High Atlantic men, you know potential husbands.â She spoke as she rolled her eyes. âThey were plenty fine, some of them were very nice and most were not unattractive I just never saw the dates as anything more than a way to pass the time.â She continued as they walked closer to the theatre. âWith you I donât think any of that, I donât see it as a pass time; I want to know you more than I do now, deeper, more intimately.â She explained with a slight blush. âI want to know all of you Tally, if youâll let me.â
âReally?â Tally was genuinely shocked at that admission, because sheâd assumed that Abigail had been on ton of dates. She never thought of the idea that they wouldâve been orchestrated by her mother. For a moment her mind drifted to General Petra Bellweather and what she might think of who her daughter was spending her time with. Tally was no High Atlantic, but she wasnât a nobody either. Hopefully she would be able to prove herself. She stopped at the door of the theater when her girlfriend (!!!) said she wanted to know all of here. She wasnât sure she meant it in a sexual manner, but it earned a blush anyway. âI want you to know all of me, too. And me to know all of you,â she added with a grin before pulling open the door and doing a silly little bow. âAfter you,â Tally teased, trying to play up the chivalry like a High Atlantic man would.

Abigail rolled her eyes playfully at Tallyâs words, squeezing her hand affectionately. âYou may not be aware of this but youâre a very hard woman to say no to.â Abigail explained as they walked down the street together, Abigail really liked this, being able to be out with Tally, in regular clothes, almost as if for a moment they were normal, no military to answer to or duties to uphold.
âI might have to use that to my advantage,â she responded with a playful raise of her eyebrows, deliberately bumping Abigailâs hip with her own as they walked down the street toward the cinema, which was now in view. Tally was pretty sure this was her first real date and she wasnât entirely sure what she was supposed to be doing differently, but Abigail wasnât complaining. It was just nice being away from base, pretending they were just two girls on a date without a care in the world. Because right now, nothing else mattered. Tally wriggled her fingers against Abigailâs as they entered the theater. âYou know, I think this is my first real date,â she whispered. âI never saw Gerit off base, except for at HIS wedding, so I guess that would make this my first.â
âHonestly Iâve never really been on one either, not one that mattered anyway.â She noted with a sigh and a slight laugh. âMost of the dates Iâve been on have been arranged by my mother with other High Atlantic men, you know potential husbands.â She spoke as she rolled her eyes. âThey were plenty fine, some of them were very nice and most were not unattractive I just never saw the dates as anything more than a way to pass the time.â She continued as they walked closer to the theatre. âWith you I donât think any of that, I donât see it as a pass time; I want to know you more than I do now, deeper, more intimately.â She explained with a slight blush. âI want to know all of you Tally, if youâll let me.â

Abigail smiles at Tallyâs use of the world girlfriend, not remembering a time where she felt this giddy about someone else. Even if it took nearly dying for her to get her head out of her ass, sheâd risk her life for Tally again in a heartbeat if it brought them to where they are now. âYou say that like Iâve ever had any power to resist that face of yours.â She teased with a smile. âOr like I didnât buy you so much candy for Samhain that you nearly got sick.â She teased as she took her hand and lead her towards the movie cinema. âBut yes babe Iâll buy you candy.â She promised.
Sometimes she wondered if she had a secondary power that made her persuasive, because it did seem to work and not just on Abigail. Though it worked better on her and she realized now how stupid she was not to realize what that meant. As Abigail mentioned Samhain, she grinned guiltily. âOnly a little bit sickâŚâ She recalled, allowing her girlfriend to pull her along, loving the way things felt so right between them. Being best friends with her first had really made their relationship all the more special. âI love you,â Tally cooed, giving Abigailâs hand a squeeze. âAnd not just because you give me everything that I want.â Her head was still spinning with the use of the word âbabe,â which was a new term of endearment and definitely made her heart flutter a lot.
Abigail rolled her eyes playfully at Tallyâs words, squeezing her hand affectionately. âYou may not be aware of this but youâre a very hard woman to say no to.â Abigail explained as they walked down the street together, Abigail really liked this, being able to be out with Tally, in regular clothes, almost as if for a moment they were normal, no military to answer to or duties to uphold.
wootar519â:
Abigail felt relieved as Tally agreed to being her girlfriend, having put herself out on a bit of a limb when she had asked the question. âI have never been happier than when Iâm with you.â Abi admitted. âI didnât even know this kind of happiness was possible, I love you so much Tally Craven.â She spoke as she kissed her again, placing a hand on the side of her face affectionately. She would never get tired of being able to kiss Tally, so much so that she wondered why it took her so long to do so. She pulled back slowly, relishing in the sensation of being so close to Tally. âThis is our stop.â She spoke, pulling back somewhat regretfully from Tally so they could make their way off the bus.
This still didnât quite feel real to her, like she was caught up in a fantasy instead of real life. Tally really had convinced herself that Abigail didnât feel the same way, but through everything that had happened, reality set in, and that seemed to be the kick in the ass Abigail needed to finally express her feelings. She thought it was better late than never. She had seen Abi hook up with people, but never have anything deeper with them, though Tally thought sheâd come close with Adil. She pushed thoughts of Adil out of her head, because Abigail had chosen her, and none of that mattered. She made her happy, and she loved her, and just hearing the words tugged at Tallyâs heartstrings. âI love you, too,â she was barely able to respond before Abigail kissed her again, paying no mind to anyone else on the bus as she expressed her affection. âOh, right,â she laughed softly, having forgotten they needed to get off at their stop soon. Sheâd lost track of time and space. She gave Abigail a smile, following her off of the bus before she stole her hand again, just needing to have her close. âSo, Abi, will you be buying your adorable girlfriend some candyâŚ?â She gave her best puppy dog eyes, knowing she couldnât resist them, even before they had officially gotten together.

Abigail couldnât help the broad smile that over came her face at Tallyâs minute slip up, biting her bottom lip gently before leaning forward and kissing Tally quickly. âI donât mind if you want to call me your girlfriend.â She assured her, hoping Tally would agree. âIâd quiet like to be able to call you mine.â She admitted softly.
Maybe a bus wasnât the most romantic place to have this conversation, but none of that mattered to Tally at all, because the way Abigail smiled when she stumbled over her words, the way she kissed her admitted she wanted to be her girlfriend? She was pretty sure this was the happiest sheâd ever been. âReally?â She whispered as if she didnât quite believe that sheâd gotten so lucky. Tally tilted her head to rest it on Abigailâs shoulder, exhaling sharply. âOh, wow,â the redhead hummed joyfully. âYeah, I really wanna be your girlfriend,â she admitted with a grin before she turned and lifted her head to press a kiss to Abigailâs cheek. âYou⌠make me so happy, you know.â

As they sat down together, Abigail kept their hands laced together, resting them on her lap as she brushed her thumb over the back of Tallyâs hand. âI tend to like historical fiction, like based on true story ones, that way I donât have to read about them.â Abigail explained before tilting her head. âSomething tells me youâre more of a rom-com fan.â She noted with a slight smile. She wasnât normally the type to watch rom-coms but she realized that she didnât care; if thatâs what Tally wanted to watch then thatâs what theyâd go see. Abigail just wanted to do whatever she could to make Tally happy, no matter what. Even if that meant sitting through two hours of predictable story lines and expected endings.
Every time Abigailâs thumb brushed casually against the back of her hand, it made it heart beat faster, even the way that she looked at her made her stomach do somersaults. Tally nodded in understanding at her explanation, before shrugging her shoulders with a barely hidden grin. âWell, Iâm a sucker for a good love story, but I donât care what we watch. I just want to be out with my girl- um, with you.â Her cheeks grew rosy after the words tumbled unexpectedly from her mouth, hoping Abigail didnât mind her slip. They hadnât had that conversation yet, and she wasnât trying to pressure her to. She knew how Abigail felt about her, and for Tally, that was more than enough.Â
Abigail couldnât help the broad smile that over came her face at Tallyâs minute slip up, biting her bottom lip gently before leaning forward and kissing Tally quickly. âI donât mind if you want to call me your girlfriend.â She assured her, hoping Tally would agree. âIâd quiet like to be able to call you mine.â She admitted softly.
wootar519â:
Abigail smiled warmly when Tally took her hand, glancing over her quickly. âYou look really nice.â She complimented as lead her out the door, following down the hall towards the outside of their current barracks. It was a strange feeling to be holding Tallyâs hand, not bad strange; but Abigail realized she had thought about this for so long, thought of being able to kiss Tally and hold her hand that being able to finally do so was bizarre almost like she didnât know what to do with the new reality. âI figured we could go into town and maybe see a movie, plus thereâs a diner my mom use to bring me to and I know how much you like diners.â She offered with a smile, hoping the options would be okay as they made it to the bus that regularly went back and fourth between the base and Salem proper.
Her cheeks flushed in response to her words. âThank you, so do you,â she murmured, returning the compliment with a smile as Abigail guided her down the hall and outside. This was really the first time that they had been affectionate like this in public and it did make Tally a bit nervous, not because Abigail was a girl, because that didnât matter, but because she was her unit leader and she was worried what people would think. If anyone noticed or cared, they didnât say anything or even stare, and that in itself was a relief. âYou know me so well!â She responded enthusiastically as the two of them climbed onto the bus, taking a seat next to one another. âWhat kind of movies do you like?â
Abigail nodded in agreement, slightly out of breath from the intensity of the kiss they had shared. She saw Tallyâs gaze drift to the bed and smirked gently at her expression. âThere will be plenty of time for that later, I promise.â She smirked before kissing Tally quickly as she finally pulled back. âJust let me get changed.â She spoke as she turned to her own closet and got out some of her civilian dress.
Tally couldnât help but blush when she was caught glancing over at the bed and Abigail seemingly read her mind. Until a few months ago, she had been a virgin, but with Gerit sheâd learned just how sensual she could be, and now she was very curious what it would be like to be with another woman. Her feelings for Abigail had grown, even since yesterday, and she knew that whenever that moment came, it would be truly special. She was in no rush, but she also couldnât help herself, being very attracted to her didnât help with those thoughts of hers, and now that she didnât have to push it back, she had trouble controlling herself. âI probably should too,â Tally agreed, figuring she should pick something nicer. Besides, if she was busy getting dressed, she wouldnât be as tempted to sneak a glance at Abigail. She grabbed an outfit of her own and changed into the civilian dress, which she had only wore a handful of times since arriving at Fort Salem back when they were in basic. Once they were both changed, Tally sought out Abigailâs hand and gave it a squeeze, more than ready for their date to begin.
Abigail smiled warmly when Tally took her hand, glancing over her quickly. âYou look really nice.â She complimented as lead her out the door, following down the hall towards the outside of their current barracks.
