Snippet Sunday - Zutara fic

I've only put a few hundred words into my second og book, but here's a sneak peek at my newest attempt to writing a Zutara long-fic

“They don’t want me,” Katara told the storm. Nothing happened, no mystical sign or inner voice coming to save her. It had been all in her head, this whole time. And yet, saying it out loud was the final nail in her pride. They’d rather she disappear like the other Southern Waterbenders than try to teach her.

Her fingers dug into the ground. Throwing her head back she let out a loud, vicious scream. It cracked the ice below her, whirlwind snowflakes hovered in the air, then came back tenfold. So much for raw talent, or luck, or whatever she thought destiny had given her.

Didn’t she feel something back there? Hadn’t her anger brushed against a force she had no control of? Why wasn’t it working now when she desperately needed help? Unless... It had been her spiraling out of control instead.

Darkness blanketed the drift, muting the world in a vast coat of grey. All her raw anger and tears did was make it harder to take the next step forward. Her bending could drive crevices in the ice, or slick the snow down into a glassy death trap, but not pave her way back to the ocean. Every bit of water around her spasmed out of control: sharp, then formless, then soft, then heavy. Round and round until she was too weak to do more than lift her head. Through the blurry edges of her vision flickered a golden light.

She pulled herself to her feet, one step, then another, stumbling through the blizzard. With a point of focus, she parted the snow to make a clearer path, and a flame rushed ahead of it’s wielder like a grappling hook, stopping short of her throat and reeling back with each step she took toward it.

Zuko, it had to be Zuko. Her excitement was short-lived. He had want only for the Avatar. Katara of the Southern Water Tribe was useless to him now. The most she could hope for was a journey back to solid land, if they could find their way to shelter at all.

Fun facts about the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone:

1) Most of it is pretty safe, even for long periods of time. In fact about 200 native people still live there, but no new settlement is allowed, so that number has declined from about 1200 after the zone was created in 1986.

2)The zone has become an unintentional animal reserve. Its ~1000 square miles of uninhabited forest. Poaching happens, but not to the degree one might expect due to the fear of radiation. Also as a consequence there are lots of human friendly animals like this fox. Most of the humans they do see are tourists that regularly feed them.

3) Its one big science experiment on post human occupation, environmental contamination, and radioactive degradation. Weve actually learned a hell of a lot about what would happen to a city after everyone leaves and how nature takes back over thanks to the city of Pripyat. And how the environment adapts to sudden changes and evolves. A fungus was desvovered in and around the Chernobyl Disaster Site that creates chemical energy out gamma radiation emitted from the melted down core. Something biologists had only theorized as even possible a few years ago, and heres this fungus feeding on it. Its crazy man!

Mark is not a masochist, he just wanted to be flung around multiple times, break his nose, get hospitalised from getting blood in his eyes and almost drown in a pool of blood to see how much he can handle for a film.

Paint-on-glass animation is a technique for making animated films by manipulating slow-drying oil-paints on sheets of glass as the animator gradually alters the shapes they create, and during this process, a camera records each finished ‘frame’.

When adapting ONE’s Mob Psycho 100, director Yuzuru Tachikawa wanted to adapt the source material in fantastic ways. And so, by combining the talents of a skilled staff, an anime with an incredible mix of animation techniques was born.

Mob Psycho’s ending, and a good portion of the paranormal scenes are a complex product of paint-on-glass animation, done by Miyo Sato, a Tokyo University of Arts graduate and animator who has had her work nominated for multiple international animation awards.

Baby monkey in Japan goes viral clinging to toy after his mom abandons him

Punch was rejected by his mother shortly after birth and raised by staff at Ichikawa City Zoo in Japan. When he was introduced to other monkeys later on, he had trouble fitting in something that can happen with primates raised by humans. To comfort him, caretakers gave him a plush toy, and he’s often seen holding it like a surrogate companion.

The GROSS oversimplification of the Peepy lineage and lifecycle is appalling to me as a scientist.

The people over at Itemlabel have been researching numerous strange creatures for years and have tons of groundbaking data. Their discoveries have led some experts to believe that peepys are not hybrids of furbies as originally thought, rather the two broke off from a shared aquatic ancestor. Furbies adapted to island life, while peepys rapidly spread over large land masses, eventually concentrating in farming and urban areas.

New research suggests the life cycle of the peepy is expansive and varied. When domesticated, they will grow very differently depending on how they're cared for. In general, peepys are extremely adaptable.
