BBC Sherlock is the best adaption of Sherlock Holmes because it succeeded in making me despise the character of Sherlock Holmes for the rest of my life (and eternity) and made me never want to touch the stories ever again and that’s what Arthur Conan Doyle would have truly wanted.

my absolute favorite thing about pliny the elder is the sheer comedic effect that results from an ancient roman who thought that there were only like 170 fish in the sea claiming that the romans knew everything about the world around them. like in one paragraph he’ll say something like ‘isn’t it astounding how much we know about the world!’ and in the next breath he’ll by like ‘and now here is a list of animals that have no blood in their body during certain times of the year’ and it never fails to kill me every time

THINGS TO BE WARY OF: THE MOMO CHALLENGE

I just heard of this from my brother, whose children are terrified of it. It’s so grotesque.

So essentially, this “Momo Challenge” made its way onto YouTube Kids videos (much like the self harm one you might’ve seen going around). In the same manner, it comes up about halfway through a video, when parents are more than likely not paying attention, and tells the kid they can’t tell anyone about the challenges or their friends/family/themselves will be killed or seriously hurt. Then it gets into the challenges.

They start out simple. Break a toy, make a mess of your room, etc. But then they gwt more and more disturbing. Things like self harm and suicide make their way into the challenges, once the kids have become invested.

And I need to stress this: they aren’t allowed to mention this to anyone under threat of harm or death to the people they love.

My niece burst into tears when my brother asked. My nephew, who’s 13, was scared out of his mind and begged my brother to drop it, because he can’t talk about it.

My brother is cutting his kids off from YouTube, and if you have children, I strongly suggest you do the same. YouTube Kids is no longer safe. Period.

Even if you don’t have kids, please, by god, reblog and share. People are ending their lives. They’re scared senseless. YouTube needs to own up and do something, and until then we need to protect the children.

tldr; The Momo challenge is likely a hoax, as there hasn’t been sufficient evidence of this occurrence. People, specifically parents, have been sharing warnings of this for a few months, usually without looking very far into it (which is how hoaxes/anything spread like wildfire). Whether this is real or not, childrens’ fear of Momo is very, very real. Kind of like how you were terrified of Bloody Mary, or any urban legend you heard about in school, as a kid. Even though you were never in any danger, the fear and anxiety tormented you. So the best thing to do is educate yourself on this issue. If you have kids or work with kids, reassure them that they are safe, and they should never do anything they don’t want to, especially if it makes them scared or feel unsafe. Check facts, check sources. And don’t spread misinformation.
