Hello, hello, friends! Welcome to my Writeblr! =D I’m not new here, but I figured I’d better finally make a proper Writeblr intro so people actually know I exist ^^; Without further ado, let’s get into it!
Fair warning, I don’t know how to shut up ;p

✧As I’ve had this blog a few years now, it turns out that I post/RB a lot of writeblr positivity and humorous writer content! Inbetween that, I also post craft advice, prompts, moodboards, and eventually I’ll be posting a lot more about Stuff I’ve Learned About the Publishing Industry So You Don’t Have To as I navigate my way through my own publishing journey!
✧Of course, I also post about my own writing, but we’ll get to that in a sec!
✧I don’t have a lot of rules or DNIs, but this blog and every other blog I run is a safe space for all POC, Queer, Disabled, and Trans folks! I am a very far-left person and all my writing reflects that, so if you have a problem with any of the above, not only will you not vibe here but we can’t be friends.
✧I check blogs before I follow back, but If I do it’ll be from my main, @whileyoureinschoolidothisallday !
✧Now that you’ve read this far, it’s time for the main course! =D (take a look under the cut!)
After saving the world from an alien race called Chaos Powers, a paranoid culture and a deep savior complex allowed government organization, Panacea, to run the world without opposition. Ariana Salem and the rest of the Unseen live their lives pretending to be normal, knowing that if anyone ever discovered their secret—that the Chaos Powers never died, and instead were using them as human hosts—Panacea would never let them live. It was only a matter of time before someone blew their cover, and when one of their own is captured, Ariana declares war.
A year later, the Unseen are labeled terrorists, and the battle has no end in sight. When strange storms begin popping up around the world, it’s revealed one of Panacea’s prisoners has escaped. Now, Ariana has a choice: Follow the lead and continue the battle despite the debilitating trauma it causes her, or sacrifice their freedom before she completely loses herself.
(You can read Cynical Chaos on ao3! I post new chapters every Saturday ^_^)
And feel free to check out my full Tag List for not only the other writing I’ve posted, but everything else I’ve posted too!
If you’ve read this far, please don’t be a stranger! I’d love to make more writeblr friends (Y’all are a lot less intimidating than Twitter ^^;)! Feel free to DM me about any shared interests, my WIPS, your WIPS, or just to say hi!
if you'd like to show support, here are some upcoming queer books:
When Life Gives You Corpses is a brilliant YA about a cursed praying mantis who falls for a young witch. Yield Under Great Persuasion is a raunchy, but surprisingly sweet story about two men repairing their relationship. Fabulous Bodies is a horror story about a queer rockstar rising from the dead.
This is Where the Future Bleeds is a fantasy set in a vividly imagined land, where two women (who happen to kiss) are the key to healing the broken sky. You're No Better is a story about a teen struggling in the shadow of his murderous parent. Oil on Canvas is about a woman who finds disturbing paintings in the home of her dead mother.
and then here's a list of 26 queer books by Black authors set to publish this year, and a 10 upcoming books by trans authors. if you want to fight back against queer censorship, use your wallet! or (if that's not an option) you can contact your local library and ask them to stock a copy.
In addition: looking for indie publishers and queer bookshops is a great way to find and support queer authors and stories of so many infinite varieties! (The following suggestions are based on my UK-centric knowledge)
(Some) Queer Presses:
Lurid Editions are "a publishing project committed to intentional and conscientious acts of archival repair". They are "attentive to how marginalised histories are forgotten and remembered, [and] hungry to rediscover overlooked queer books". They've just received funding from Arts Council England to engage queer readers in a project to contribute to the archive!
Cipher Press "We’re really keen on the idea that queer and minority stories are for everybody, and we want to make our books – and the stories they tell - accessible to all" (what an amazing mission statement!)
Anamot Press "Anamot [Անամոթ] means shameless in Armenian. Anamot Press publishes poetry and prose on intersecting experiences of gender, sexuality, race, migration, class, belonging and loss - with no shame."
(Some) Queer Bookshops
Queer Lit Oh man, I remember when this was just a tiny little shop, and now they're the biggest LGBT+ bookshop in Europe! They do amazing work in donating books about being trans to schools and parliament! They have a pay-it-forward board that will make you sob with its notes of love and support. (You can tell I wish I still lived nearby)
Lighthouse For Scottish friends - "a queer-owned and woman led independent community bookshop. We are an unapologetically activist, intersectional, feminist, antiracist, lgbtq+ community space"
Gay's The Word The OG Queer bookshop in the UK. One day I will make my pilgrimage!!
This really is just a tiny snapshot of all the amazing work of celebration and resistance that's being done for Queer literature at the moment. We live in frightening times, but I promise there is still lots of love and joy and hope out there in spaces like these. Support them in whatever way you can!!
this queer author is so very tired but I have a queer cozy fantasy that's out now (left) and a queer cozy horror that releases in July (right), both adult
The Keeper of Lonely Spirits is about an old man cursed with immortality, loss, grief, and the meaning of home
The Lord of the Wood is about a man having a queer awakening in an enchanted forest, the sister who comes after him, and realizing worth doesn't lie in usefulness
truly the idea of "this scene is (un-)necessary to the story" is such a fundamentally uncurious and anti-art way of engaging with fiction. the story itself is unnecessary, in the sense that all art is unnecessary, because art is not a fucking optimization problem. that's the beauty of it
i've been thinking a lot the last few days about how so many people, even when they think they're defending art, automatically adopt the position of the STORY being the most important part of all fiction. the plot, the character arc, the worldbuilding, but it's always about moving something forward and building a narrative idea. and like....yes, fine, but sometimes i read books because i like the way the author puts words together! sometimes i watch movies because the images and sounds give me an ineffable human experience! not all art can be experienced via synopsis!!!!!!!!!!!
These days being an author is 50% writing and editing and self-promo and all that other stuff, and 50% getting spammed by AI-generated emails from bots promising that they can "boost your readership!" and "connect you with unique readers through our unique program!" if you give them $500.
Random writing tips that my history professor just told during class that are actually helpful
Download all your sources or print them so you can turn off your wifi
Give your phone to someone
Just. WRITE. Writing is analysing, you’ll get more ideas as you write. It doesn’t need to be perfect, for now you can just blurt out words and ideas randomly. You can fix it later.
Create a skeleton/structure before writing.
Stop before you get exhausted. It’s best to stop writing when you still have some energy and inspiration left, this will also motivate you to get started again next time.
Make a to do list
Work in bite sizes. Even if it’s not much, as long as you put some ideas on paper or do some editing.
Simple language =/= boring language, simple language = clear language.
Own your words. If they are not your words, state this clearly in the text, not just in the footnotes.
STOP BEFORE YOU GET EXHAUSTED. Listing it again because it’s easily one of the best tips a teacher has ever given me.

Did you know that the raffle is for a fun physical prize?
This is only ONE PART of the prize. The rest of it contains mystery goodies!
The raffle winner will be drawn and announced on the final day of Summerfest!
We've had a busy few days and we're all getting a little tired. We'll need to find somewhere to nap first. And...with everything in the air, we might have some weird dreams.
We should probably know each other very closely, right? Like...in case something happens once it gets dark.
I know! Let's play two truths and a lie!
Reblog this post and share two truths and one lie about your main character! Remember to play the game with other people, too!
Apple: A gentle breeze dances in the trees. It carries the sweet smell of apples and flowers we can't yet see. If I listen hard enough, I can hear the familiar, lazy strums of a guitar.
Storm: The slow coiling of the sky reminds me of a warning, like the storm itself is trying to scream, stay away. If I listen hard enough, I can almost hear it echoed in the wind.
Blue:
I look down at the blue cushions and pick at them. "It's stupid."
Wow. This place is totally abandoned. I don't think we're going to find any help here. But you know, at least we aren't still walking on the side of the road? That's got to count for something.
Well, there are so many of us here right now. This probably isn't the first time you've broken into somewhere, right?
You should, you know, share that story.
Reblog this post and tell us (or share a writing excerpt) of your characters breaking into something or somewhere!
"Do you think you can cause some kinda scene or something? Like, hide your face and scream?" I ask.
It's plenty dark in the alley, and this is a much smaller part of the city. Not as many people means not as much of a Panacea presence. No one to show off to.
"What? Why?" Damali tilts her head at me. Her jaw drops in horror once she realizes what I'm saying. "Y-You can't steal them!"
"I wasn't gonna steal, technically. I was just gonna turn on my eyes and ask nicely."
"No!"
"Dee, I've killed people. I don't think stealing a popsicle will have much impact on my morals."
"No!" She's so scandalized by the idea of thievery it's hard not to laugh. She grabs my wrist to drag me away and onto a different street. "Nevermind, it's fine, we–we–we'll have ice cream at home."
"Wait, wait, okay," I say with a laugh. "If you wanna be difficult about it, I know a different trick."
It takes a little bit, but eventually we find a vending machine. I snap my fingers in my pocket and it breaks with only a few sparks flying around it. I make it look like I'm buying something so it doesn't seem as suspicious when I'm reaching into the return slot. Change falls out of it, and continues to spill out on the ground when we leave.
"This is still illegal!" she hisses.
"Girl, our entire existence is illegal. Pick a struggle."
