“I’m sorry. Did I come too late?”
i made a 2-part uquiz called Which Shakespeare character are you? and it has 50 possible results. The first quiz puts you into one of 5 groups and links you to the group quiz that has 10 different characters each. Tag your results. :)
the funniest part of this is seeing people in the tags who want to get hamlet and get something from a play they’ve never read and they’re like UMM IM EMO??? i HAVE to be HAMLET idk who Edmund even is and I’m like… sweetie…. you’re Edmund….
!!!!!!!!!!!
it's so cute when someone is talking about their passion and what they are genuinely interested in, i love how their face starts glowing, their eyes have this sparkle and they just keep rambling on about it with excitement.
give me a Hamlet who believes he must be cruel to be kind
a Hamlet whose “I loved you not” is choked out like the lie it is. whose words to Ophelia begin stumbling and contradictory but build to viciousness, tears in his eyes barely in check. Hamlet, whose attacks upon her femininity are calculated and careful, hitting her where it hurts most. a Hamlet who tragically mistakenly believes aiming for her most intimate insecurities, betraying that trust born of a tender love, will make a cleaner break of it all and keep her away from him, away from the doom that he sees settling over Elsinore like a black cloud.
give me a Hamlet who acts, as he always does, from a sense of necessity. Hamlet who protects those he loves by betraying them. Hamlet whose mistake was acting too much on his own, making true the isolation and single-minded purpose he promised the ghost of his father. Hamlet who walks away from Ophelia disgusted with himself, self-loathing and heartbroken but that’s nothing new.
give me a Hamlet whose lamentations and rage at her graveside don’t feel hypocritical. a Hamlet who loved her and hates how he failed to keep her away from all this death, driving her to it instead. a Hamlet who sees that the pain he caused with good intentions only continues to build.
give me a Hamlet quietly begging that, in Ophelia’s orisons, all the sins he is about to commit against her be remembered.
I’m a modern woman and all, but the minute you stick an early 1800s love story with dancing and chaste flirtation and dashing men in their regency era clothing in front of me I am fucking GONE
LITTLE WOMEN (2019) directed by Greta Gerwig
my kid has started to write stories and like, no lies, they’re funny as fuck
actual dialogue:
“to your battle stations, boys! it’s time to line up and see who’s tall enough for the roller coaster to hell!! some of us may not survive this, but the ones that do will get the ultimate reward.... paid.”
“here’s a penny for your thoughts, and a quarter to not tell me them”

“everyone knows those quiet girls. the ones who never say anything at school unless a teacher makes them. the ones who you see every day but don’t know what they sound like when they laugh. lindsey is not one of those girls, but the teacher wishes she was.”
“lindsey was always loud, especially when she was being kind. she didn’t smile at people to make them happier, she screamed all the reasons they shouldn’t be sad. it was hard not to listen.”
i can’t wait to read this book tbh
if you are seeing this, you are going to prosper. you are experiencing a new part of your life where you will bloom into a better version of yourself and flourish. abundance is coming your way; love is coming your way; peace and clarity are coming your way. you have nothing to fear and even less to worry about. the darkness around you has been the soil and you are now getting ready to sprout. you are going to prosper

BTS’ tradition of welcoming a new year by hugging each other!
Your purpose in life is not to love yourself but to love being yourself.
If you goal is to love yourself, then your focus is directed inward toward yourself, and you end up constantly watching yourself from the outside, disconnected, trying to summon the “correct” feelings towards yourself or fashion yourself into something you can approve of.
If your goal is to love being yourself, then your focus is directed outward towards life, on living and making decisions based on what brings you pleasure and fulfillment.
Be the subject, not the object. It doesn’t matter what you think of yourself. You are experiencing life. Life is not experiencing you.
Thank you this is the first post about self love that hasn’t made me want to throw things
How to Feel Loveable When Feeling Unloveable Is All You’ve Ever Known
Someone brought you into this world and no one has yet taken you out of it. That’s a good start.
And there will always be the movies in which the protagonist meets a handsome stranger in a coffee shop, or on the subway, or even on a park bench while reading a book during the middle of the summer, and they’ll go home together almost immediately. They’ll sleep together in her giant loft above Manhattan and in the morning he’ll make her pancakes in bed and when he promises to call her, he really will end up calling her.
But the truth is, in real life it’s rarely ever like that. You have to stop waiting for them to call back. You have to stop wishing you had the power of telepathy so you could send them all your most intimate thoughts; you have to stop mixing chocolate chips into the pancake batter because you know it’s their favorite, even when it isn’t yours. The more time you spend wishing, and wanting, and pining, the less time you have for the world, who already loves you by virtue of letting you exist inside its arms.
You think you have a right to self-pity? How do you think the moon feels knowing it’s not the center of the universe? This, this feeling unloved, this isn’t your undoing. It’s your becoming.
Someone else can love you as hard as they hate themselves, or hate you as hard as they love themselves. Newton said that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. That means that for every person who doesn’t love you, there’s an equal number who do love you. But they don’t cancel each other out. They don’t cancel each other out because some of the people who don’t love you have never met you. They’ve never met you in their lives, and maybe if they did, maybe if they met you on that park bench or at the coffee shop or on the subway, they would love you. They’d fall for you. They’d want you in the morning, in the middle of the afternoon, at night, with all your bedhead, your acne, the raspy cough you get when you have a cold, with the way you snore, even the way you breathe.
And even if you never meet any of these beautiful, mysterious, aching strangers who have fallen for you, maybe they fell in love with the mere sight of you crossing the street, or ordering a croissant, something so simple, yet so revealing of your ability to be loved.
You’re a miracle, and so is love. You are love. You are loved.
some stuff isn’t just a trope, you know? in the movies, we’re introduced to women who are “experts” who have trained for years, who live and breathe and are willing to die for whatever the male main character has never even experienced before. and then he takes the reigns and upstages her, instantly, with a little bit of friendly bewilderment because, come on, it’s not antifeminist, he’s just good, he’s standing there having shown he’s actually more powerful than she’ll ever be - and we buy it. and then we go home and when we live and breathe something we still ask ourselves. “am i actually good at this? or is some fool going to walk into this presentation eighteen minutes in and offer a sarcastic and biting correction?” we wait for the man to show up and prove that, despite awards and training and an excellent job position, we’re actually just secretly incompetent.
the trope isn’t just setting up for us “this man is good at what he does” – the fact that the trope demands our male hero upstage the woman says: even an incompetent man will always be better than the best woman. he could have upstaged the sage boss or whatever other male in power exists in the movie. but he doesn’t. he upstages the woman to earn his pack order because she is, intrinsically, the weakest link. the real fight will be man against man. it always is.
and i wish, i wish it stopped outside of the theater. but the number of men who try (gently) to assure me that they’re actually better at what i have multiple degrees and years of experience in - it tells me it worked. men are always looking to be the hero, to interrupt, to upstage, to flip the woman on her back and expose her to all your fellow men - see! for someone who has been doing this forever, she’s just another woman. i am reminded by a man this is called mansplaining. i said “it’s a system of silencing women” and he said, “no, it’s just an accident.” in the movie, he sees himself pointing to my equation on the board, having just walked in. “here’s the flaw,” he says. in the real life, i’m too frustrated to speak. in the movie, he’s inevitably right. elle woods flipping her hair and saying what, like it’s hard? was a funny line. it’s funny because in every other movie, it’s said by a guy.

The movies and shows that stick with you after you’ve walked out from the cinema or got up from the couch, the books that live on in your head once the cover is closed, are the best kind of story there are.
