“Mr. Gotcha” on The Nib
The West: *colonizes >75% of the world for centuries as a means of extracting resources and labor, creating the seismic inequality between "first-world" and "third-world" nations that we have today and keeping the latter locked in varying degrees of socio-political turmoil and IMF-imposed neoliberal debt*
People in the Global South: *react to these inequalities and crises by trying to seek out a more comfortable life in the West, where there is generally more stability and better access to resources as a result of that aforementioned centuries-long imperialism*
People in the West: Um :/ Why are all these gross foreigners trying to destroy Western culture? :/ You don't see me going to their countries demanding safe spaces for white people, do you? :/ They should fix their own problems in their own countries :/ Listen to Hillary and Obama: they need to get over imperialism, sweaty :/

Amazon is the fucking evil megacorporation from every near-future cyberpunk story they have warehouses full of wage slaves that can’t even take a piss or fall behind their ridiculous expectations without getting fired on the spot while their CEO is nearing trillionare status day by day while quite literally making local governments pay them to determine which city they install their next slave warehouse in and now their wiretap HAL 9000 bots that are in millions of houses all over the country are doing evil laughs and reading off names of cemeteries and funeral homes completely unprompted I know anger at amazon in general is very outrage-of-the-day basic entry level american leftist reaction but Jesus fucking Christ people
i will die defending the idea that humans are not inherently evil and that its corrupt governments/corporations/establishments in society that are evil, not humanity as a whole. our species survival has always hinged on our ability to care about each other and to help one another, the violence of capitalism is not natural and humans are a hugely social species we NEED to make connections to keep living!!!! we need to make connections and interact with other people in order to thrive and touch starvation is an example of what happens when were denied these interactions. ancient humans took care of their disabled, elderly, and sick people because they cared about them. we have always cared and we always will and we need to keep nuturing that loving and caring nature that is within the whole human race
Don’t armchair diagnose mass shooters and other killers. The misconception that all violent people must be mentally ill (and the following conclusion that all mentally ill people must be dangerous) has horrible real life consequences for visibly mentally ill people.
Schizophrenic people are 14 times more likely to be a victim of a violent crime than committing one because people assume that we’re homicidal and dangerous and may react very negatively to visibly mentally ill behavior, partly due to all the media portrayals of schizophrenics as violent killers.
50% of people killed by police are disabled or mentally ill (and the victims are disproportionately black or other people of color) because the unusual behavior of visibly disabled and visibly mentally ill people is read as inherently threathening and dangerous.
Please consider the real life consequences of reinforcing the association between mental illness and violence - people are dying because y'all want to blame all evil in the world on severe mental illness so that you can clearly separate yourself from it. You’re harming an already extremely vulnerable and marginalized group of people and it’s time to stop!
I encourage people who aren’t schizophrenic to reblog this. These stereotypes are literally getting people killed and I’ve seen no awareness around this on this website.
plot twist armed teachers results in the revival of militarized labor unions
if you ask a right winger why a job like, say, sanitation worker has such an abysmal wage even though their job is necessary they’ll tell you that it is an unskilled occupation. we could contest that but for the sake of argument let’s concede.
by this logic, value is derived by how much labor is required to accomplish something, in this case the labor of learning the skill in addition to the labor of completing the task at hand. a doctor would earn a much higher wage because of the labor required to earn the necessary degrees to practice. okay.
but then if you ask a right winger why the price of a pair of glasses, a mattress, or even a bottle of water is so expensive, despite these things being cheap and easy to make, they’ll tell you that value is not determined by the labor that goes into it, but by need and demand.
this inconsistency reveals how neoliberal economics functions: the value of something means whatever is most convenient to the ruling class.
‘What remains of the radical left now operates largely outside of any institutional or organised oppositional channels, in the hope that small-scale actions and local activism can ultimately add up to some kind of satisfactory macro alternative. This left, which strangely echoes a libertarian and even neoliberal ethic of anti-statism, is nurtured intellectually by thinkers such as Michel Foucault and all those who have reassembled postmodern fragmentations under the banner of a largely incomprehensible post-structuralism that favours identity politics and eschews class analysis. Autonomist, anarchist and localist perspectives and actions are everywhere in evidence. But to the degree that this left seeks to change the world without taking power, so an increasingly consolidated plutocratic capitalist class remains unchallenged in its ability to dominate the world without constraint.’

“Koreans are all brainwashed so you can’t compare them to Americans.”
Half of America is so patriotic they believe all school shootings are false flags. There was a ridiculous piece of misinfo that was floated around by mainstream news outlets that the DPRK was forcing people to style their hair after Kim Jong-Un. This was a complete lie, tons of Americans believed it and still do and won’t even do the two seconds of research needed to figure out it’s a complete lie.
Americans are one of the most brainwashed peoples on Earth. They have had their consent engineered since their birth. Ya wanna test this?
1 - Refuse to say the pledge of allegiance.
2 - Say anything negative about the military.
3 - Question Capitalism in any way.
4 - Say that America isn’t the best country in the world.
5 - Make a critique of mainstream American culture.
Do any of these things amoung others and an army of jingoistic super-patriots will descend upon you like an angry avalanche of stupidity with the exact same copy paste arguements they’ve been taught to rehearse.
I’ve done all of those things and that’s exactly what happened (a bunch of angry Patriotic Americans™️ started ranting at me or insulting me and my intelligence and ‘loyalties’ [????] ) so if anyone wants to pretend Americans aren’t brainwashed by their government to do and believe certain things without question or really asking why they’re doing it or believing it, they can get fucked.
