when a government bans young people from using social media, and then categorises messenger apps like Signal and WhatsApp as "social media", they are pushing those young people toward using text messages, a fundamentally insecure form of communication. texts are not encrypted in transit and can be read by both the sender's mobile carrier and the recipient's. that also means they can be leaked in data breaches, subpoenaed, or just handed over willingly to law enforcement at the carriers' discretion.

We need to talk about the amount of fic writers being accused of using AI and why y'all need to fucking cut it out.

AI is trained off of actual writers. "You write like AI." No. AI writes like them.

Not all fic writers have English as their first language. They are writing fanfiction in their second, third, fourth, etc. language. Do you know how hard that is? Do you know how ridiculous the English language is?

I see people say that certain stylistic choices automatically mean AI. Wrong. WRONG. People were using these styles before AI.

If I see people claim that em dashes are an automatic tell for AI one more time I'm going to fucking scream. People have been using them for a LONG time. And you know why AI uses it? BECAUSE IT WAS TRAINED OFF THE WORKS OF ACTUAL PEOPLE

I am so adamantly anti-generative AI but people need to stop immediately jumping to the conclusion that fic writers are using AI because of tiny little things. (And don't tell me you ran it through an AI checker because those things are bullshit. I've seen friends run their old high school papers through those and it came up 100% AI when that's literally fucking impossible.)

God forbid people enjoy writing as a hobby and they don't write like they're going to be published tomorrow. Knock it off.

watch movies that make you uncomfortable read books that make you uncomfortable go to plays that make you uncomfortable watch tv that makes you uncomfortable look at paintings and sculpture and artwork that makes you uncomfortable. it is spiritually and morally and ethically and artistically really really good for you. think about why you are uncomfortable. what biases do you bring to art? what biases does the art bring to you? how do you reconcile this? how does your worldview grow and expand and change? all this and more will be answered and available to you if you just engage with art that does not coddle you and treats you like an intelligent human being that can sit through discomfort

Ok, so I'm up to episode seven of Goddess Bless You from Death and the horror aspect is *chef's kiss*, no notes, so much better than a lot of hollywood horror movies (and trust me I've seen a lot of them).
