Damn the perceived world sounds cool as hell
(blue is average of peopleâs estimate of percentage of population of which x is true, and red is the actual percentage)
I appreciate how itâs perceived jews are 30% of the population, muslims are 27% of the population, and atheists are 33% of the population. nobody wondered why christians were 10% huh
I honestly donât even think this is as much âminorities being extremely visibleâ, and more just that the most people donât understand fractions and statistics.
To most people, anything less than 10%, in any context, is basically âinsignificant, not even worth your attention.â
The idea that Asians could be âonlyâ 4% of the US population, and yet you still see a couple Asian people every day of your life, is deeply counterintuitive to most people. People donât truly grasp that they pass by hundreds if not thousands of strangers every day and about 1 in 25 of them are going to be Asian.
Right now annual inflation is at a pretty high 9%, which is more than triple what the usual inflation rate is. But I guarantee if you asked the average person on the street what the inflation rate is right now, theyâd think prices have gone up by anywhere from like 30-100%, because â9%â just doesnât feel like a substantial or noticeable amount in their minds, even though it is.
Obsessed with the fact that 92% of people live in NYC, California, and Texas
This reminds me of a different post I saw recently, wherein OP was - understandably - irked that so many professionals will characterize something that affects 1%-2% of the population as âa rare illnessâ. In actuality, if youâre in a lecture hall with 300 people, that means 3-6 of people who are in the same room with you. It means you might meet people with [disorder] every day, and not realize it.
ok enough is enough. whichever one of you virgins invented instagram starbucks recipes, die 1000 deaths. I had a customer come in today holding out their phone (full brightness) and looking all shy and Im immediately like đ fine ok, what does the instagram user want me to make for them this time. well this time it's a cringe harry potter themed frappucino. excuse me??? "can you make this for me?" I said excuse me??? -- I mean *customer service voice* "yeah it looks like I have all the ingredients, haha sure!"
ok cringe instagram harry potter frappucino drinker. ok. die. "Ive never had this drink before" yeah I can tell due to the fact that it didnt exist until someone posted a #aesthetic photo of it to instagram 14 hours ago ok. ok,
but whatever, Im paid to put up with this shit. so I add the ingredients all up on my computer and congrats! ur harry potter cringe social media drink has $10 worth of syrup in it. are you happy??? is this what you wanted??? a $10 frappucino??? $10. for a drink. you doubled the price of this drink for ur off-brand "harry potter and the legend of the overpriced starbucks drink" drink. you doubled the price!!! is this how u imagined spending ur day? is this what u wanted to do when u woke up this morning? $10 for a 24oz drink?
and u know, you KNOW the influencer making this recipe doesn't even work at a starbucks cause when it was all said and done the drink looked like shit. my blender was straining against the weight of your sins (and syrups) and Im sweating, Im an animal, Im losing my mind and my blender is getting watered down frappucino syrups everywhere -- u put so much shit liquid in this blender it doesnt even fit in the cup btw. it's making a huge mess. but is it instagramable? no, its fucking ugly. #trending #foryoupage #cringe $10 harold potter drink for adult children,
so are you happy? is ur social media influencer bestie happy? I made ur stupid $10 drink for u. does it taste good? no? well I hope instagram shuts down tomorrow. I hope you read a different book. I hope I never get sober. there is no sign of land. I hope you die. I hope we both die.
world heritage post
kids these days dont understand projecting your middle school anger due to being an outcast into vitriolic hate of justin bieber
ppl adding on about how justin bieber is actually a terrible person this is about drama between 11 year olds in like 2009. we didnât know a single thing about the guy. your opinions were solely based on whether you were part of the 90% of teenagers who would cry if justin bieber jumped off a building or you were the 10% who would sit back with popcorn and yell âdo a backflipâ.

Some rando: This character should not have the chance to become a better person
Me: Why
Same person: Because they are a bad person!
Me: But what if that character was allowed to become a better person so that they are no longer a bad person?
Same person: Youâre an abuse apologist
I would love for every bad person to become a good person. Iâd think most humans think that itâd be a cool and great thing if all bad people became good.Â
A cool and great thing, which we can play pretend with in fiction, knowing itâs not realistic, just to feel a little better about the shitty real world we live in.
tbh, I think the problem is that people confuse âgetting a redemption arcâ with âbeing rewarded with what comes after a redemption arcâ
like, redeemed villains are generally friends with the heroes. they get to experience love and The Power of Friendship for the first time, if they havenât already. they generally get to experience forgiveness. if their motives are based off of some kind of trauma or pain (like a lot of redeemed villains) then they will probably have that resolved and get some sense of closure or inner peace from whatever is hurting them.
so when they say that âthis character doesnât deserve a redemption arcâ what they mean is âthis character doesnât deserve to be loved. they donât deserve happiness, peace, or companionshipâ. the alternatives I have seen are:
âI hope that this character realizes how awful they are and they kill themselvesâ
âI hope this character is redeemed by a heroic sacrificeâ (meaning they would be redeemed but wouldnât be alive to experience the ârewardâ afterwards)
âI hope this character begs and pleads for forgiveness over and over again, but is never forgivenâ
itâs pretty disturbing tbh, to treat basic things that every human needs (like being loved) as a ârewardâ that you get for good behavior. or more accurately: never being bad in the first place. that once you fall from grace youâre damned for eternity.
I think this post exposes a really gross underbelly to purity culture bullshit that I donât think I examined quite this way before.
If redemption is unacceptable, if bad behavior can never be forgiven, what is the alternative?
Because it sure seems like the alternative is âIndefinate suffering = justice.â
BINGO.
Thatâs what purity culture has always been.
âEveryone who who has ever made a choice I disapprove of should suffer for eternityâ is the origin of the concept of Hell. Fandom purity culture is fundamentalist Puritanism without the religion.
I spent so long on this y'allâŚ
FUCK YOU OP
Hereâs a link showing where that shitâs hiding
God damnit
this post is a triple dick-shot
I love my characters so much, I wish I could draw
Found a magical girl character creator after I went to see if I could find one of those random Madoka character pickers like how Jojo has.
itâs kind of deeply depressing that there exists this entire vast subculture of progressive-learning 15-19 year olds online who are legitimately filled with anxiety over their media consumption diet and closely monitor themselves and others to make sure nothing they consume is Problematic⢠lest they be ousted from their social circles. at the exact age where itâs actually good to have a varied media diet and be able to critically engage with harmful elements, too
straight up if you are high school or early university aged and youâre spending time feeling significant guilt and anxiety about what you choose to read or watch because of your online peers and shaping your media diet based on fear, you do not have to be around those peers anymore. there is a vast world outside this kind of person
