@hellsite-hall-of-fame
how does this have under 10,000 notes in spite of my having seen it regularly for the entire time Iāve been on here?
I am shamed to say this and this probably gets me cancelled but I'd literally spent my entire life thinking rasputin song was about vladimir putin. like every time I listened to the song / every time I heard it play, I literally thought it was about vladimir putin šššš
my face when I was told it wasnāt about him and Iād been getting it wrong all this time
Did you know Rasputin song wasnāt about Vladimir Putin?
Yes, I know this
No, I didnāt know this

will you guys cancel me if i say that queer tragedy has a place in the creative arts and shouldnāt immediately be dismissed as bury your gays
adding @glorious-spoon 's astute tags:
#bury your gays and women in refrigerators and the black guy dies first are all about treating marginalized people like props#to further the story of the (white straight male) protagonist#that's not the same thing as a tragedy! some stories are tragedies! whose story has weight and meaning - that's the question
Who would win?

Notes:
Second poll will remain open until 50 years from publishing
Bot options share a UUID, making a vote for either count for both
Previously, a vote in the first poll counted for both options in the second
A vote for the second poll increases the vote count for both polls, despite the first ostensibly being closed

this is what we mean when we say germany is still split
#finding a bezahlbare wohnung in berlin impossible challenge. keine chance š
@freethesnakeriver what does this say pls help
@fandomsinatrenchcoat. twin my german is SO bad, but it is good to understand issues across the globe so i will try my best š
so the post says something like
wage levels in the east: Companies like "Lidl" or "RotkƤppchen" pay their employees in East Germany significantly less than in the West. For the exact same work. Up to a thousand euros or even more are missing from their monthly paycheck.
tags then the tags say maybe: #Nah, forget itāthe East has been left behind. #Itās also great that rental rates have skyrocketed while wages haven't kept paceāthat really brings a smile to your face.
theyre talking about how deutschland and berlin in specific is still fucked up from the cold war era from the soviets having control of half and the allies having control of half. (east, and west, respectively)
Yayay thanks dawg a true hero of the people here
your translation is not too bad! it mostly gets the point across. the tags i screenshotted are sarcastic tho: "but noo the east hasn't been left behind.
germany is fucked up because the east had a piss poor economy and in 1989 the "reunification" was not so much a reunion as the GDR (east germany) being folded into the FRG (west germany) and the west german government all but encouraged west germans to take advantage of the cheapness of the east to buy out housing and businesses etc. this of course only exacerbated the poverty and drove east germans out of their own homes which created social and political issues that still affect us today.
for example the east is more āconservativeā. AfD (neo nazi party) majority states are overwhelmingly in the east. my family is east german while my friendsā are all from the west and the divide is very much still there. ways of thinking, raising kids, food, wealth, the damn generational trauma⦠itās insane. and in most of our infrastructure you can still see a clear line on a map where the quality drops/changes running right along the former border.
this country is still divided and until those issues are solved the government can forget about their precious patriotism.
i was complaining about berlin specifically because imo itās a poster child of this, what with the east and west sitting side by side in the same city. foremost example i can think of is trams: theyāre everywhere in the east while the west of the city was built by americans so cars were seen as more important and no tram lines run. also i live in berlin so itās what iām dealing with every day. i could rant about this more coherently than in 15 minutes over my oatmeal.
other germans add & correct me! history was not my strongest subject
There's also a huge difference when it comes to other economic things like jobs, etc. I remember being in school and seeing a map about the future chances in different regions and the difference between East and west Germany was huge (see pic below for the newest version of the map).
Red = Best chances, Orange = very high chances, pastel orange = high chances, yellowish orange = slight chances, yellow = balanced risks/chances, light blue = slight risks, medium blue = high risks, dark blue = very high risks.
The text under the map reads: The overall map illustrates the future opportunities and risks of the regions in a comparison across Germany. It is based on the 31 macroeconomic and socioeconomic indicators of the Zukunftsatlas.
Sources: click me (the map), click me pt 2 (informations about the 2025 result/background information etc). Unfortunately both are entirely in German.
