Perhaps an androgynous female character, taller than the men in Supernatural?? (´ . .̫ . `)
Preferably a badass hunter..
My short lover - Dean winchester x reader
Note:Hello, I really liked the idea, but I wish you had clarified your request more about how you wanted the story to unfold. I made it about Dean and a reader because it's very interesting to me. I hope you like it anyway.
Note:English is not my first language
Bobby call had been unexpected. His gruff voice trying to hide a plea for help behind the mask of duty was familiar, but the reason for it was not. His boys needed help.
You were driving down an empty highway with no real destination in mind, a cigarette burning between your fingers after a long exhausting hunt that had only just ended. Of course you knew about the Winchesters, the two brothers who somehow always managed to leave the fate of the world hanging by a thread because of their decisions. The thought of meeting them did not appeal to you. Bobby would definitely tell them he had sent a hunter, and their thick heads full of stereotypes would probably expect some petite delicate girl hiding behind shelves.
You had left behind the anxious little kid who used to disappear inside oversized clothes a long time ago. You had accepted your body, your towering height that stood well above most men, and your sharp features that made people mistake you for a man from behind until you got closer. But those first five seconds of recognition and shock in people's eyes still bothered you more than they should.
You drove into town. The atmosphere was horrifying. People stood frozen where they were like wax statues, terror carved into their faces. The curse was ancient, born from the darkness of the Civil War. It slowly shut down every organ while its victims remained painfully aware of every second until death.
You searched the streets for the brothers among the frozen bodies, but found nothing until the sound of splintering wood echoed from inside an old house.
The situation was bad. Dean was slumped against the wall as the freezing curse crept through his limbs, stealing control of his body, while Sam fought desperately against a shadowy creature that reeked of dust, history, and death.
You stepped forward with calm steady strides. Your height gave you the advantage as you struck the creature from above with your rune carved weapon. Then you pinned it beneath your boot and began reciting the ancient Latin words, your deep steady voice echoing through the abandoned room.
With the final word the creature let out a scream that tore through the silence. It exploded into a burst of glowing green light before vanishing completely. Warmth flooded back into the room, and Dean finally managed to breathe again.
You slowly turned around, your hands tucked into the pockets of your coat.
The brothers were still trying to catch their breath but their eyes were locked on you. Dean frowned, then looked up, then even higher, trying to process the towering figure and sharp features standing before him. A heavy silence settled over the room while Sam, for what felt like the first time in his life, looked small beside someone else.
You answered with your usual calm, your eyes drifting around the room.
"Y/N. The one Bobby sent"
At that moment both brothers froze. Their eyes widened. You watched Dean's pupils shrink while Sam looked at you with a completely new perspective, their jaws nearly hitting the floor.
The quiet sound escaped Dean exactly as you had expected, and exactly as you hated.
You turned to leave, your voice flat and distant.
"You're welcome. Since this is over"
"Hey, hey, wait, please" Sam quickly hurried after you, holding his hands up apologetically, his eyes still wandering over the impossible difference in height. "We're sorry, we didn't mean anything by it. We were just surprised to see someone so heroic. Besides, Dean is probably feeling a little offended because now he's the shortest one here"
"I am not short!" Dean shouted from behind, trying to stand as straight as possible to make up the difference, childish annoyance written all over his face.
"You two are ridiculously tall. It should probably be illegal!!"
Dean sighed, then stepped closer, his irritation fading into genuine respect.
"But seriously, what you did back there was incredible. It's been one hell of a day. How about we grab a drink? Bobby will kill us if we let our savior walk away like this"
The three of you settled into a quiet corner of an old, nearly empty bar. You chose a wooden chair with your back against the wall, your long legs stretched comfortably beneath the table, forcing Dean to pull his chair back a little to give you enough room.
Dean set the glasses down on the table, then leaned forward on his elbows, unable to hide his curiosity.
"So Bobby has been secretly relying on some legendary hunter without telling us? How did you two end up crossing paths"
You took a calm sip from your drink, then answered in your usual steady voice.
"I come from a family of hunters. I met Bobby through my family, and after they died he helped me a lot, whether it was with hunting or just life in general"
Sam smiled warmly and looked at you.
"That sounds exactly like Bobby. He always acts tough but he cares about everyone. You know, he always used to say that height is a kind of presence and strength all on its own"
You looked back at him, and for the first time the tired, distant tone disappeared from your voice, replaced by a genuine sense of comfort you had not felt in years.
"Yeah. He told me the exact same thing when I started getting much taller. Did that happen to you too, when you were seventeen"
Sam laughed and nodded, clearly enjoying the rare chance to share the experience with someone else, while Dean groaned as he lifted his glass helplessly.
"Alright, enough with the giant alliance already. I'm starting to feel left out here"
Months had passed since that night, and the calls between the three of you became more frequent until chance encounters slowly turned into deliberate plans. You had become an essential part of their more complicated cases. They asked for your opinion on ancient symbols and relied on your strength whenever a job called for a full assault. As time went on, the formal distance between you disappeared. Your appearance and towering height became the subject of daily jokes traded back and forth, and for the first time in years you found yourself feeling like you truly belonged among friends.
Lately, though, you had noticed something strange. Dean's behavior had begun to change in a way you could not ignore.
At first Dean had treated you like the ridiculously tall hunter, or almost like another soldier standing beside him. But little things had started to shift. During your last hunt, when a pack of werewolves attacked, Dean had thrown himself in front of you, taking a heavy blow meant for you, even though he knew perfectly well that you were more than capable of crushing that stupid werewolf's skull yourself. And it was not just that. He had started choosing motel rooms more carefully, always making sure the bed was long enough for you to sleep comfortably. Even your morning coffee somehow appeared with just a touch of sugar, exactly the way you liked it, without you ever asking.
You were used to Dean being rough, practical, and blunt. But this quiet, thoughtful care made you feel something completely unfamiliar. He was treating you like a woman, someone worth looking after, instead of the giant who was always ready for war.
One quiet night Sam was fast asleep inside the motel while you stepped outside into the parking lot to enjoy the cool night air.
You found Dean leaning against the hood of the Impala, watching the stars with a cigarette between his fingers.
You walked over with your long, steady stride and stopped beside him, looking down at him slightly as you always did. This time, however, the silence felt different.
You took a slow breath and calmly broke it.
"Dean, there's something I want to ask you"
He turned toward you, raising an eyebrow while trying to sound casual.
"Go ahead. I'm listening"
You folded your arms across your chest and met his eyes directly.
"The way you've been treating me has changed a lot these past few weeks, the motel rooms, the coffee, and that stupid stunt you pulled by jumping in front of me during our last fight. You know I can take care of myself, and you know I'm not some delicate girl who's afraid of shadows. So why are you doing all this"
Dean froze. His usual teasing smile faded. He looked down at the ground, rubbing the back of his neck with a nervousness you had never seen from him before, as though he had just been caught red handed. He let out a light, obviously forced laugh to dodge the question.
"Oh, come on, Y/N. Haven't you ever heard about the legendary chivalry of the Winchesters? I'm always like this. A natural born gentleman. Besides, I'm just making sure our professional hunter doesn't get hurt"
He finished with the usual nonsense about looking after his fellow hunters, but the way his eyes refused to meet yours and the faint blush creeping across his cheeks beneath the dim parking lot lights gave him away far too easily. Dean Winchester was not doing a very good job of hiding how flustered he was this time.
At that exact moment a single thought flashed through your mind, a strange sudden spark that made your heart skip for just a second before you pushed it away as hard as you could.
"Could he actually like me"
It was not that you believed you were unworthy of love. You had dated men before and had long since made peace with your own femininity. But Dean? Dean Winchester, who was noticeably shorter than you? The man with a long history of falling for women with a certain look, usually brunettes with that soft classic kind of beauty?
The whole idea felt ridiculous, almost laughable. Completely impossible as far as you were concerned.
"No way. I'm just imagining things"
So you decided to play along and pretend nothing had happened.
You let out an amused breath, then smiled faintly as you took a deep breath.
"The legendary chivalry of the Winchesters? Fine, I'll believe that story for now, Dean. But the next time you jump in front of me during a fight, I'm using your back as a human shield. Deal"
Dean let out a quiet breath of relief, as if a mountain had just been lifted off his shoulders, and his usual confidence returned.
"Deal. As long as you don't complain to Sam"
You nodded, then turned and walked back toward your motel room with your long, steady stride.
After you closed the door behind you and disappeared into your room, Dean remained standing beside the Impala for a long time. The cold night air surrounded him but his mind refused to settle.
He drew in a deep breath then let it out slowly, feeling unbelievably stupid. He was angry at himself, and more than anything, he could not understand what was happening to him.
At first, when Bobby had sent you, it had only been a visual shock, a towering hunter whose skill demanded his respect. He had convinced himself you were nothing more than a strong hunting partner, refusing to consider anything beyond that. But now? Somewhere along the way his heart had slipped completely out of his control. He had fallen for the little things no one else seemed to notice. He loved the cool, distant front that hid an unwaveringly loyal heart. He loved the confidence in the way you walked and the quiet strength that made him feel safe simply knowing you were watching his back during a fight.
The hardest part was facing himself every night.
He really did have feelings for you, and he had absolutely no idea what to do about them.
The thought of asking you out terrified him. His pride, as a man who had always been the one people leaned on, shrank every time he thought about how much taller you were. He dreaded the way people might look at them, and even more than that he feared you might reject him or laugh at the idea.
The other option? The one he had spent most of his life relying on. One night in a cheap motel and then walking away.
Y/N was not some woman he had met in a random bar and would never see again. You were his friend, his partner. The idea of treating you like a meaningless hookup felt like an insult, like staining something precious. He would never hurt you like that, and he would never risk losing you over a passing desire.
Dean rested his forearms against the roof of the Impala and looked up at the dark window of your motel room.
"Damn you, Y/N. And damn Bobby for sending you to us"
After the hunt was over and the place had been cleansed, the three of you packed your gear as usual. You stood beside your car saying goodbye to the brothers. Everything felt familiar, almost routine, until those final few seconds.
When you held out your hand to shake Dean's, your eyes met, and for the second time that same strange hesitation crossed his face. The usual sarcastic remark never came. Instead he offered only a faint smile and held your gaze a little longer, as though he wanted to ask you to stay but his pride would not let him.
You climbed into your car and pulled onto the road. Through your side mirror you watched the brothers grow smaller in the distance, but Dean never moved. He simply stood there watching your car disappear over the horizon.
Even after you were gone, Dean kept staring down the empty road for several more seconds.
Sam had been watching him in silence the entire time, his arms folded across his chest with that familiar knowing smile resting on his face. He let out a quiet sigh, then looked at his older brother with the kind of expression that said he already knew exactly what was going through Dean's head, no matter how hard Dean tried to deny it.
Finally Sam broke the silence, his voice calm with just enough teasing to be annoying.
"Was there something you wanted to tell her before she left? Or are you planning to keep staring into space like a teenager"
Dean turned sharply, trying to throw his usual sarcastic mask back on as he flicked away the cigarette butt.
"What the hell are you talking about, Sam? I already said goodbye. Now get in the car, we've got a long drive ahead of us"
Sam did not move. His smile only widened as he lowered his voice.
"Dean, I'm not blind, and Bobby isn't blind either! The way you look at her, how flustered you get, and the way you keep throwing yourself in front of her during fights, you're into Y/N. So why are you making this so complicated"
Dean clenched his jaw, feeling heat rush into his face from equal parts embarrassment and frustration. He walked to the Impala, yanked the door open, then looked back at Sam, his voice sharper than he intended as he tried to bury the helpless conflict inside him.
"Shut up, Sam, and get in the car. This isn't what you think. Y/N is our friend, our partner, and she's... taller than I am! Stop making up ridiculous romantic fantasies that don't exist"
Dean climbed into the Impala and slammed the door shut.
Sam got in after him, shaking his head with a helpless smile, already certain that his brother was fighting the biggest and most complicated battle of his life, and that sooner or later no amount of denial would be enough to hide feelings that were already becoming obvious to everyone around him.
The call from Bobby came barely two weeks later. A remote town high in the northern mountains had been plagued by a series of strange disappearances. Bodies were being found torn apart and stripped completely of their bones, while a powerful snowstorm was closing in, ready to seal off every road. Bobby had been clear.
"It looks like an old, well fed Wendigo. The boys are already there and they're going to need your strength and speed before the storm traps them"
When you pulled up outside the old run down motel on the edge of town, Sam and Dean were already waiting.
You stepped out of your car and walked toward them with your usual towering stride.
Sam greeted you with his familiar brotherly smile.
Dean, on the other hand, froze for just a second. Then he hurriedly pulled his usual sarcastic mask back into place.
"Oh, look who's here. The owner of the illegally tall height came back to save us"
This time, though, you did not miss what was hiding behind the joke. Beneath the sarcasm was unmistakable relief. He let out a long, quiet breath, his shoulders relaxing the instant he saw you, and his eyes swept over you in a quick, careful glance, making sure you were unharmed. Everything about him silently admitted he had been looking forward to seeing you again.
The following night the storm battered the walls of an abandoned warehouse deep in the forest where you had tracked the Wendigo. The air was dark, freezing, and heavy with tension.
"It's behind the barrels" Sam shouted as he fired a burst of flames.
The creature was faster than any of you expected. Huge, twisted, and terrifying, it lunged straight at Dean, who stumbled backward over a broken tree trunk, leaving himself completely exposed to its deadly claws.
You did not hesitate for even a second.
Your instincts as a hunter and the quiet, undeniable urge to protect Dean drove you forward.
You crossed the distance in a few long strides, placing yourself between him and the creature like an unbreakable wall. You raised the flamethrower, but the Wendigo twisted with horrifying agility and slammed into your arm.
The sound of your heavy coat ripping echoed through the warehouse, followed by the sickening sound of razor sharp claws sinking deep into your shoulder.
You staggered back two steps.
The Wendigo retreated only after Sam blasted it directly with another burst of fire, forcing it to flee into the darkness of the forest.
But it was already too late.
The flamethrower slipped from your hand. You bent forward, clutching your shoulder as warm blood poured from the wound in frightening amounts, staining the white snow beneath your feet a deep crimson.
In that instant Dean's entire world fell apart.
The scream that tore from his throat was unlike anything either of you had ever heard, filled with raw, helpless terror.
He ran to you and dropped to his knees in the snow in front of you. You, the strong woman who always made him tilt his head upward just to meet your eyes, were now swaying in front of him, covered in blood.
His hands, frozen by fear, began shaking uncontrollably as he pressed them against the deep wound in your shoulder, trying desperately to stop the bleeding.
"Damn it, damn it. Stay with me, look at me" His voice trembled, his green eyes wide with pure panic, searching your pale face for any sign that you were still with him.
Dean turned toward Sam and shouted, his voice frighteningly calm despite the panic beneath it.
"Sam! Get the first aid kit and bring the car. Now! Damn it, move"
Then he looked back at you, leaning closer while keeping all the pressure he could against your shoulder.
"You're strong, aren't you? You don't go down because of something stupid like this. Please, Y/N. Stay awake"
You gave him a small nod.
Dean let out a shaky laugh, the sound filled more with relief than amusement.
While Dean desperately tried to stop the bleeding from your shoulder, his voice shaking with panic, the sound of fast approaching footsteps echoed through the dark forest.
A gunshot rang out, followed by a blazing flare thrown toward the path where the Wendigo had disappeared, making sure it would not return.
A tall, broad shouldered man emerged from between the trees, carrying a tactical medical pack across his back.
He immediately dropped to one knee beside you in the snow, completely unfazed by the furious look on Dean's face or the handgun Sam had aimed in his direction.
The man examined the deep wound in your shoulder before looking at Dean, his voice calm, firm, and carrying the confidence of someone who knew exactly what he was doing.
"Step back a little and ease up on the pressure. I was a trauma surgeon before I ended up in this mess. If you keep pressing like that you're going to damage her shoulder muscles"
Dean clenched his jaw hard. Every part of him looked ready to tear the stranger apart, but fear for you forced him to step back.
The new hunter, who later introduced himself as Liam, moved with practiced precision. He was almost exactly your height. As he checked your pulse and temporarily treated the wound, his movements remained gentle and respectful. But the way he stayed close to you, and calmly kept talking to you, encouraging you to stay awake, made the veins in Dean's neck stand out with barely restrained anger.
An hour later all of you were back at the motel. The storm raged outside while the room inside was warm and quiet.
Liam sat on the edge of your bed, gently holding your hand to check your temperature after professionally stitching and bandaging your shoulder.
He looked at you with a warm, reassuring smile.
"You're going to be alright now. You just need time to heal"
You were exhausted but fully awake. You gave him a quiet, grateful nod. He gently brushed a few loose strands of hair away from your face. You smiled back.
At that exact moment, a loud crack shattered the silence. Dean had crushed the plastic cup in his hand. His green eyes burned with a level of jealousy Sam had never witnessed before.
Dean strode across the room and planted himself between you and Liam, forcing the other hunter away from the bed with his shoulder. He fixed Liam with a sharp, hostile stare.
"Alright, Doctor Hero. You've stitched the wound and done your job. I think visiting hours are over. We'll take it from here"
Liam slowly raised both hands in surrender, smiling with infuriating calm as he stood to his full height, matching yours and standing just a little taller than Dean.
"I'm just checking on my patient, buddy. No need to get so worked up"
"I'm not your buddy, and she's not your patient" Dean snapped, loudly enough that it nearly echoed through the entire motel, the childish jealousy and frustration written all over his face impossible to hide.
From the corner of the room, Sam covered his face with one hand, trying very hard not to sigh.
You turned toward Dean. Despite your exhaustion you frowned in genuine confusion, unable to understand why he was acting so aggressively toward the man who had just saved your life.
Your words hit Dean like a lightning strike.
"Let him stay. I'd rather have him here"
Dean froze. The shock was written all over his green eyes, as though you had landed a direct blow to his pride. He opened his mouth, ready to argue, ready to yell, ready to throw this stranger out of the room. Instead he fought a brutal battle with himself. You could see it in the way his fist tightened and his jaw locked.
In the end he took one reluctant step back, muttering through clenched teeth.
"Fine. Damn it. Do whatever you want"
Liam pulled a wooden chair closer to your bed and the conversation gradually settled into something comfortable. He spoke with the brothers from time to time with an easy confidence, telling stories about old hunts and about the strange balance between holding a surgeon's scalpel and carrying a hunter's knife.
It was painfully obvious that Liam liked you. And to be honest, you could see why. He was mature, composed, confident, and reassuring in a way that made people naturally feel safe around him.
But... there was a wall of tension filling the room. And it was coming from Dean.
He sat across from you without taking his eyes off either you or Liam for even a second, every sideways glance sharp, tense, and barely restrained. Each time Liam smiled at you, each time he leaned closer to check the bandage on your shoulder, Dean's expression darkened just a little more.
It completely threw you off. Those were not the eyes of a hunting partner who simply disliked a stranger. They were the eyes of a man burning with jealousy, watching the woman he wanted giving her attention to someone else while feeling powerless to do anything about it. And that made absolutely no sense to you. Not even a little.
Sam closed the door behind him as he left with Liam to finish the job, leaving Dean alone with you.
The room suddenly felt much smaller, wrapped in a heavy silence broken only by the relentless rain pounding against the window.
Dean remained standing for a few seconds, his eyes fixed on the closed door, as though he were trying to gather the pieces of his composure that Liam's presence and Sam's knowing looks had completely shattered.
He let out a sharp breath before turning back toward you. The hostility vanished from his face, replaced by the same awkward nervousness that always seemed to appear whenever the two of you were alone.
He slowly walked over to the bed, pulled the wooden chair closer, and sat down. Leaning forward with his elbows resting on his knees, he laced his fingers together and stared at the floor for a long moment before finally lifting his green eyes to meet yours.
"Are you alright?" His voice was quiet, gentle, and completely free of sarcasm, a tone that was incredibly rare for Dean "I mean... does your shoulder still hurt"
You looked at him with your usual calm, despite the lingering awkwardness.
"I'm alright, Dean. Liam did a good job. The pain is already starting to ease"
The moment Liam's name left your lips, Dean's jaw tightened again. A brief flash of jealousy crossed his face before he forced it back down.
"I'm sorry... about what happened earlier. I know I acted like an idiot toward that doctor..." He stopped, swallowing nervously, rubbing the back of his neck, unable to make sense of the storm of emotions inside him or force them back any longer. "But I... damn it, Y/N... when I saw that thing drive its claws into your shoulder... when I saw your blood on the snow..." He paused again. "It felt like my brain just... stopped working. And I felt completely helpless"
You looked at him. That old suspicion was no longer just a passing thought. It had become something undeniable, right in front of your eyes. Dean Winchester, the man who had always seemed drawn to women with a softer, more conventional kind of beauty, was now sitting in front of you, nervous, frightened, and looking at you with your towering height and sharp features as though you were the most precious and most fragile person he had ever been afraid of losing.
Your words fell over him like cold water poured onto burning coals.
"Thank you for thinking of me as your friend. That means a lot to me"
You held tightly to that safe, familiar word. "Friend." It was easier that way. It gave your thoughts a boundary and silenced the impossible ideas your mind kept insisting on reminding you of, Dean's usual type and the obvious difference in height between the two of you. You needed something solid to stop yourself from imagining things.
The moment Dean heard the word "friend," he instinctively leaned back, as though he had been struck by a blow he never saw coming. His expression froze. His green eyes searched yours, trying to understand the calm, neutral answer that had met the rare vulnerability he had allowed himself to show.
His tense shoulders slowly relaxed. He swallowed the lump rising in his throat. Several long, uncomfortable seconds passed in complete silence.
In that silence Dean understood that you had placed a wall between yourself and his feelings. A thick, solid wall. He just could not tell whether you had built it because you did not feel the same, or because you were afraid to.
Forcing a faint smile onto his face, Dean stood from the chair, trying to sound like his usual self again.
"Yeah... of course. Friends. We're family after all. And Bobby would've killed me if anything had happened to you"
He slipped both hands into his pockets and took a couple of slow steps toward the window. Outside, heavy snowflakes drifted through the darkness. He watched them quietly, hiding both the disappointment that settled heavily in his chest and the strange sense of relief that came with it. Part of him hurt because you had drawn the line so clearly. Another part was grateful that his pride had been spared from confessing his feelings to a woman who was taller, stronger, and completely out of his reach.
After a moment he glanced back at you.
"Get some rest. I'm going outside to make sure Sam and that woodland prince Liam haven't managed to burn the whole forest down"
He turned and quietly closed the door behind him.
The room fell silent once more. You remained lying there, staring at the ceiling, while the thoughts inside your head grew louder and louder behind the calm, unreadable mask you had learned to wear so well.
Several hours later the hunt was over and Sam and Liam returned to the motel. Exhaustion showed on everyone's face, and it was finally time for everyone to go their separate ways.
Liam stepped into your room one last time to check your shoulder before leaving. With his usual calm confidence, he changed the bandage, then straightened up, offering you a warm smile as he held out his hand.
"Your shoulder is healing well, Y/N. It was honestly a pleasure meeting you. I hope our paths cross again on another hunt"
Your long hand reached out to shake his.
"Thank you, Liam. Without you things could have turned out much worse"
Before letting go, Liam gently held your hand for just a second longer. He met your eyes with an unmistakable look of admiration. It caught you slightly off guard.
Once he finally left and the sound of his car faded into the distance, Dean appeared in the hallway. You slowly walked back into your room. He followed a few steps behind. There was still that faint spark of restrained frustration and wounded pride lingering in his eyes.
He stepped inside, closed the door behind him, and leaned against it with his arms folded across his chest, watching you in silence for several long seconds.
Dean let out a slow, heavy breath.
"So... 'Thank you, Liam.' I guess the handsome doctor made quite an impression"
You looked at him with your usual calm, trying to keep your voice perfectly neutral.
"He saved my life, Dean. He was kind and respectful. Of course I thanked him"
You poured yourself a drink and were about to sit down on the bed. But Dean pushed himself away from the door. He crossed the room until he stood close enough for you to feel the warmth of his breath. He looked slightly upward, studying your sharp features and the height that still placed you above him.
When he finally spoke his voice was quiet, bitter, and painfully honest.
"He wasn't just kind and respectful, Y/N. He looked at you the way everyone expects a man to. A tall, confident man looking at a woman who fits perfectly into his world without feeling awkward for even a second." He stopped, swallowing with difficulty. Embarrassment and hesitation flickered across his eyes before he forced himself to continue. "I know I'm not as tall as he is. And I know I'm probably not the kind of man you'd expect to look at you as a woman. And I know when you called me your friend yesterday... you were reminding me exactly where I stand. But watching him hold your hand like that while I was standing there trying not to lose my mind..." He shook his head with a quiet, bitter laugh. "That was more than I could take. Damn friendship, Y/N. I don't see you as a friend. I never have"
Silence settled over the room. Dean let the words remain between you. He stood there breathing slowly, his green eyes holding a vulnerability you had never seen before. For the first time in a very long while, Dean Winchester had torn down his own pride with nothing left to hide.
The choice was yours now.
Silence settled over the room. Time itself seemed to stop for a few endless seconds. Dean's unguarded confession echoed through your mind, tearing down every wall you had spent years building around your heart.
In that moment every doubt disappeared. The difference in height no longer mattered. Neither did the women he had once been drawn to. All that remained was the man standing in front of you, willing to lay down every ounce of his pride just to tell you how he felt.
You looked into his green eyes. They were filled with cautious hope and the unmistakable fear of rejection. Your heartbeat quickened, not from fear this time, but from something you could no longer deny.
With your usual calm now softened by a warmth he had never seen before, you slowly stepped closer. Because you were taller, you leaned down slightly until your face was only inches from his. Your uninjured hand slipped gently behind his neck. Then you closed the distance. Your lips met his in a slow, quiet kiss.
It was your answer, the answer you had never imagined yourself saying out loud, an answer that silenced every fear he had been carrying and every fear you had tried to bury.
For a heartbeat Dean froze, his mind struggling to believe what was happening. Then he let out a long, shaky breath. Relief spread through him so completely that every bit of tension left his shoulders. His hands slowly found your waist, holding you with a quiet steadiness, as though he were afraid you might disappear if he held on too tightly.
When the kiss finally ended he rested his forehead gently against yours. A disbelieving smile spread across his face.
"So..." A soft breath of laughter escaped him. "I spent weeks convincing myself I didn't stand a chance... and all this time... you were here kissing me"
For the first time in what felt like years, Dean Winchester smiled without sarcasm, without pretending, and without hiding behind another joke. Just relief. And happiness.
Dean slowly pulled away from the kiss but did not move far. His forehead rested lightly against yours while his warm, uneven breaths brushed gently across your pale skin. His green eyes searched your sharp features with genuine wonder, as though he was still trying to convince himself that what had just happened was real.
The trembling in his hands had completely disappeared. In its place was a warm, steady hold around your waist, as though he refused to let you drift back behind the distance that had always separated you.
A quiet, husky laugh escaped him, half amusement, half disbelief at himself and the weeks he had wasted fighting his own feelings. He lifted his eyes to meet yours, still having to look up ever so slightly, and the familiar confidence finally returned to his voice.
"Damn. If I'd known confessing like an idiot would've made the woman with the impossible height lean down to kiss me... I would've done it the first day we met in that bar"
A small smile crossed your face. For the first time Dean saw nothing hidden behind your eyes. No hesitation. No walls. Only warmth.
He gently took your uninjured hand and guided you toward the edge of the bed, where the two of you sat together. Turning to face you, he no longer seemed embarrassed by the difference in height between you. If anything he looked as though he had finally found exactly where he belonged.
His eyes drifted to the bandage around your shoulder. The teasing smile faded, replaced by something quieter and far more sincere.
"I know this won't be easy. And I know Bobby's going to threaten me like I'm some idiot teenager. And Sam will probably never let me live this down. But I'm serious, Y/N. I want you beside me through all of this"
At that exact moment a quiet sound came from the doorway, followed by a familiar dry clearing of someone's throat.
The two of you turned together. Sam stood in the doorway with his arms folded and a huge grin spread across his face, as though he had known exactly how this would end all along. His eyes dropped to Dean's hand, still wrapped around yours, before he looked back up.
"I hope I'm not interrupting anything. Bobby's on the phone. He wants to check on Y/N." A mischievous smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. "Should I give him the good news... or should we let Dean enjoy the last peaceful night of his life"
Dean's face immediately turned bright red. Without missing a beat he grabbed the nearest pillow and hurled it straight at his brother.
"Get out of here, Sam! And shut the door"
Sam burst into laughter. The pillow bounced harmlessly off his shoulder as he stepped back into the hallway.
He pulled the door closed behind him, still laughing, leaving the room quiet once again.
Days turned into weeks, and that stormy night at the motel became the turning point in your life. The relationship between you and Dean was no longer built on stolen glances or unanswered questions. It was real. Something the two of you lived every day.
Old habits, however, were not so easy to leave behind. Ever since losing your family you had survived by relying on no one but yourself. Your strength, your towering height, and years of experience had given you complete confidence in your ability to stand alone. So you still took plenty of hunts by yourself. You packed your gear, climbed into your car, and headed toward cases that were yours without asking anyone to come with you.
That particular habit drove Dean absolutely crazy. Every single time you told him you were leaving on another solo hunt his expression changed immediately. His jaw tightened. His green eyes filled with equal parts frustration and worry. Dean, who had spent his entire life trying to protect everyone around him, could never quite make peace with the woman he loved walking into danger without him.
He would stand in front of you with his arms folded, desperately searching for another excuse.
"Damn it, Y/N. This case could get ugly. Let me come with you. Sam can stay here"
Every time, you answered the same way. Standing at your full height in front of him, you met his eyes calmly, placing one hand on his shoulder.
"Dean. Look at me. I'm not some fragile girl who got lost in the woods. I've been a hunter for years. I know exactly how to take care of myself. I'll be alright. And I'll come back to you"
Faced with your quiet certainty, there was never much he could say. He would let out a long, defeated sigh, run a hand through his hair, then gently cup your face between his hands.
"Just... call me every few hours. Deal"
As time passed Dean slowly learned to accept it. He learned to respect both your independence and the space you needed as a hunter. His protective instincts never disappeared. He simply learned not to let them become a cage around you.
Even with that stability the relationship was never completely free of doubt. At quiet moments the old thoughts still found their way back into your mind. You would catch your reflection in a mirror, your sharp features, your broad shoulders, your height that stood far outside the image people expected of women. Then your thoughts drifted toward Dean's past, toward the women he had always seemed to choose. The doubts whispered the same question every time.
"Is he really serious? Or is this only temporary because everything about us is unusual"
Dean answered those fears without even realizing it. He no longer cared about the curious looks people gave him whenever he walked into a bar beside a woman taller than he was. Instead he would slip an arm confidently around your waist in full view of everyone. He noticed every little thing about you. He supported you without ever feeling threatened by your strength. When he talked about future hunts he spoke as though your place beside him had never been in question, as though you were no longer just part of his present but a permanent part of the future he wanted to build.
Your relationship continued to grow stronger in every way, but there was still one line neither of you had crossed. You had not slept together. Whenever things began to drift toward something more intimate, you always found a way to pull back. It was never because your feelings for Dean were lacking. It was because the old fears still lived inside your head. You were afraid of him truly seeing your body. Even more than that, you feared becoming just another one night mistake, the kind of life Dean had once been known for.
Dean noticed your hesitation, and he understood it. So he never pushed. Instead he simply held you close, giving you all the time you needed to trust him completely.
Then one night everything changed.
You were sitting alone at a worn wooden table in the corner of a cheap roadside bar, waiting for the brothers to return after gathering information on a new case. The place was crowded with hunters and half drunk locals.
A large, broad shouldered man eventually dropped into the table beside yours, and before long you noticed him staring. He did not look at you with curiosity. He looked with mockery. Loud enough for everyone nearby to hear, he laughed with his friends.
"Take a look at that giant over there. Is that a guy wearing women's clothes or what? How can any woman be that freakishly tall"
As always you ignored him. Years of hearing the same insults had taught you how to build walls around yourself. People always mocked what they could not understand. You simply looked down at your drink, your familiar calm expression hiding everything underneath.
Encouraged by your silence, the man only became louder. His words grew crueler, each insult aimed not only at your appearance but at your femininity itself, while his friends laughed beside him.
Then everything happened at once. You never even heard the front door open. What you did hear was the unmistakable crack of breaking bone. A table shattered. The large man crashed violently onto the floor, screaming as blood poured from his nose and mouth.
You looked up in shock. Dean stood over him. His green eyes had gone almost black with rage. His breathing came hard and fast. Blood stained the knuckles of his right hand. Every muscle in his body looked ready to explode.
He turned toward the man's stunned friends. His voice was low, calm, and terrifying enough to silence the entire bar.
"If any one of you opens your damn mouth about my woman again, I swear I'll bury you beneath this ground before you get the chance to blink"
The bar fell completely silent. No one moved. No one laughed. The men quietly stepped back.
Then Dean turned toward you. The instant his eyes met yours, every trace of fury disappeared. All that remained was fear, not for himself, for you, for the possibility that those disgusting words had hurt you.
He crossed the room in a few quick strides and firmly took your uninjured hand in his.
"Y/N. We're leaving. Right now"
Dean held your hand tightly as he led you out of the bar, almost dragging you behind him, his long strides matching the anger burning in his green eyes.
The cold night air hit both of you the moment you stepped outside. He took a deep breath, trying to steady the fury still racing through him, before turning toward you, forcing his voice back to something calmer.
"Alright. We'll find another bar. Sam's still gathering information about the case and he'll probably be at it until dawn. We're not wasting our whole night because of those idiots"
But you stopped walking. Slowly slipping your hand from his, you looked at him with an expression he had never seen before.
"Dean. I want to go back to the motel"
His face changed instantly. His heart tightened. He was certain those men's words had finally gotten to you. He thought the calm mask you always hid behind had cracked, and that all you wanted now was somewhere quiet to nurse the wounds they had left behind. Rage flared inside him again. Part of him wanted to march back inside and break every bone in every one of those men. Instead he swallowed it for your sake.
"Alright. If that's what you want"
The drive back to the motel passed in complete silence. A heavy silence. Dean's thoughts never stopped racing. He searched desperately for the right words, something that could comfort you without making you feel pitied.
The moment you stepped inside the room, Dean closed the door behind him. He stayed there with his back against the wood. Taking one slow breath, he turned toward you. Concern filled every line of his face. He opened his mouth. The first words of reassurance had barely reached his lips...
But you never gave him the chance.
You crossed the room in a single long stride. Using your height and strength, you suddenly trapped him between yourself and the closed door. Both of your hands came to rest against the wood on either side of his head. Then you leaned down and captured his lips with yours, silencing every word before he could speak.
The kiss was sudden, deep, filled with every feeling and every longing you had kept buried inside yourself. Dean's breath caught in complete surprise. For one heartbeat he froze. Then every part of him answered without hesitation. His hands found your waist, pulling you close with unmistakable longing as he surrendered completely to the way you had pinned him gently against the door.
The kiss lingered just long enough to tell him what words never could, that you had chosen him completely. Every other sound in the room faded away until all that remained was the rhythm of your uneven breaths and the quiet thud of your bodies against the wooden door.
Your fierce kiss left Dean completely breathless. His hands slipped from your waist to your back, pulling you even closer until there wasn't the slightest bit of space left between you. The kiss slowly changed from startled urgency into something shared and perfectly in sync, filled with everything the two of you had held back for far too long.
Dean finally broke the kiss for a single desperate breath. His green eyes burned with an intensity you had never seen before. His voice came out rough and low as he looked straight into your eyes.
"Damn it, Y/N. Are you sure? There's no running away after tonight"
You answered without saying a single word. Instead you stepped into him again, closing the distance as your lips found his once more with even greater certainty. It was all the answer he needed.
In one smooth motion Dean took the lead. He turned the two of you until you were the one gently resting against the wall. His hands moved with unmistakable affection and longing as he helped remove the heavy coats that had kept you apart from each other. His fingertips brushed gently across your skin, lingering with special care when they reached the shoulder that had only recently healed from its injury.
Together you slowly made your way toward the bed beneath the soft glow of the motel lamp. You leaned close enough for only him to hear and whispered:
Dean let out a slow, ragged breath. Without another word he captured your lips once again in a deep, lingering kiss.
As the first light of dawn slipped through the narrow gaps in the curtains, filling the room with a soft gray glow, every storm that had been raging inside your mind for weeks finally faded away.
You lay quietly beneath the heavy blankets, your head resting against Dean's broad chest. His heartbeat was slow and steady, surrounding you with a sense of peace you had not felt in a very long time. One warm arm remained wrapped securely around your back, sometimes pulling you a little closer, as though he needed to make sure you were still there. Other times his fingers drifted gently along your arm and across your skin, quietly admiring how naturally the two of you fit together.
You turned your head slightly to look at him in the early morning light. Dean was already awake. The moment his green eyes met yours, a small warm smile spread across his face. He leaned down and pressed a long, tender kiss to your forehead before speaking in his familiar rough voice, now softened by quiet contentment.
"Morning. My fierce hunter"
A small smile found your lips. Warmth rose gently to your cheeks. You lifted your hand, brushing your fingers along his jaw before asking softly.
"Good morning, Dean. Are you alright"
A quiet laugh escaped his chest. He tightened his arm around you, drawing your tall frame even closer until you were completely wrapped against him.
"I've never been better, Y/N. Damn it. I spent weeks trying to find a way to prove that there's no other woman in this world I see the way I see you. I hope the message finally got through"
You simply looked into his eyes and smiled. That alone was enough.
At that exact moment the sound of a key turning in the motel's front door echoed through the suite, followed by Sam's tired voice calling from the other room.
"Dean? Y/N? I'm back. You would not believe the disgusting stories I had to listen to from the hunters at the other bar just to find the location of that nest"
Dean froze for a second. You buried your face against his neck while he let out one long, defeated sigh.
"Damn it.. Sam..Your timing is always perfect"
He glanced down at you with a playful grin and a quick wink, silently asking you not to move while he prepared to face his younger brother wearing the unmistakable expression of a man who had absolutely won.
A second later you heard Sam shout from outside.
"Oh, for the love of... Dean"
There was a brief pause before he groaned again.
"Thank God I didn't get excited and walk into your room"
The front door slammed shut as he muttered something under his breath on his way back outside.
You couldn't help laughing...Dean laughed with you
For the first time in a long while the future no longer felt uncertain..Somehow you both knew you were going to be alright
