I think the 1970 film Waterloo is a really good film about the Napoleonic Wars, and it's one of my favorite films. What I particularly like about this film is the great resemblance of the actors to the historical figures...compare to Napoleon in 2023...the most obvious example is Ney.

Okay, the above remark, with regards to this portrait of Junot

has rekindled my interest in Junot's military career 😊. I understand that this portrait was done by Fernando Quaglia in 1807, and as Quaglia seems to have worked in Paris, it was probably before the Portugal expedition that only happened at the end of the year? If that is true, then Junot's last military mission that I am aware of would have been the uprisings in Parma. Or was there something else? In any case: How did this happen? What trouble did Junot get himself into this time?

1806, so it would have been the uprisings in Parma and Piacenza, correct. I don't recall seeing any documents about Junot being injured in this assignment. It was 1810 when he was in Spain then I know he was actually shot in the face. It could also have been an old wound probably from ten years ago in Italy because he was also injured then.

As much as I don't want to write this: poor guy. Also, if this was a lead bullet (I assume it would be?), would that not mean he likely suffered from lead poisoning on top of everything else?

That man was competent as fuck and that’s hot in itself. He was compassionate, courageous and hospitable. Looked after ca. 47 children of his soldiers financially in early 1800s. Always on the field. Dutiful, loyal and attractive. Have you seen him??? His curls and his sideburns??? Hot. Respectful towards women? Hot.

Was he perfect? Oh, goodness, no, but none of us are so vote for him. 🥰

Uuuh... there's so much else to like in a person other than beauty, do I really need to remind this? Aura, personality, interests, charm? Sense of fashion? She had tons of that. She had a nice physique anyway and Napoleon still simped for her asscheeks at St Helena About the cheating, it's just alleged but nothing actually proves that, and a woman's reputation was easy to ruin.

I would also like to add that people at the time - as a rule - did not marry for personal reasons. That was merely an afterthought.

Pretty or not, wealthy or not, faithful or not, bad teeth or not - Joséphine at the time was exactly what Napoleon needed as a wife.

Time to attempt to save a sinking boat: Mikhail Bogdanovich Barclay de Tolly. This man had to deal as the main head of the Russian with Napoleon during the invasion of Russia in 1812 and he managed to do to the impossible: to wear out Napoleon. Did he make a bunch of mistakes during it? Fuck yes, he did. He managed anyway just like he continued on during the fourth coalition when he got wounded (as he should!). This man calmly and surely raised through his ranks.
