Animorphs Cross Stitch 25 x 25

Years ago I designed this cross stitch pattern to represent Animorphs in a personal project and the @animorphs-30 zine gave me a wonderful excuse to make a new and improved version.

I wanted to post the original and the draft of this too so I could compare the two.

As you can see the original isn't centered which was 90% of my reason for redoing it. I still think the centering could be better but the second one doesn't grate on me like the original. The other 10% of my reason was that the colors of the A did not pop as much as I wanted even though I liked the effect of the purple (that is a variegated thread, not different purples).

But I also switched the greys to browns for the update and it looks like I managed a much more gradual color transition the second time.

The original was stitched onto standard cross stitch fabric with 3-strand embroidery floss. The update is on plastic mesh with 6-strand floss.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the series, creators of the fanbase have come together to bring you a zine of nearly 200+ pages (at which point I'm not even sure we can call it a zine anymore! The correct term at this point would be anthology!), filled with art and writing.

You can download it as a PDF here, or if you just want to view it without downloading, it's available on Canva here.

Currently I'm still working on options for getting a printed release, but self-printing is still an option! Stay tuned—there should be a self-print mirror available shortly (I'll just need to change some links to QR codes, among other things).

More than one Superman story pairs Clark up with a friend who is a conspiracy theorist that Clark indulges (because he knows there is some truth to it and it helps Superman) only for him to play the skeptic (to keep his secret identity) but I can't remember, has there ever been a Clark that openly goes full tinfoil hat? He gets into it before he learns about his past (to the Kent's chagrin) and then takes it even further after he finds out that aliens are for sure real.

Honestly it would be even better as a cover. Who's gonna believe that the guy who takes a yearly trip to Roswell is Superman?

I have little interest in toy story 5 but it bothers my brain that sticky hands are sentient, because they are not permanent toys. They deteriorate once they collect enough dust. They last like a day. I feel like this will not be acknowledged, even though it would present a more compelling existential situation to explore. The other toys fear ever being replaced or thrown out at all, even though they are functionally immortal. The sticky hand is a background character but its existence should upend the whole perspective of the other toys.

And in the first movie they show a See ‘n Say being alive in but in 3 a seemingly lifeless one is being used as a gambling machine so who knows how any of it works

Of course the lifeless ones could just be corpses

I think forky proves that the toys gain sentience only once a child imagines that they have a personality.

And I know we saw sentient toys that hadn't ever been played with, but I think it probably counts collectively for mass produced toys. Every buzz lightyear and barbie and donatello are born conscious because they have an intended persona already known to kids. Faceless objects have to be given one individually.

This actually would explain so much cause Buzz came out of the box knowing his whole backstory but Woody didn't even know he had a backstory. Every kid has probably seen the Buzz Lightyear commercials/TV show/video game but Andy must've never even heard of Woody's Round-up.

Fake dating is so funny as a trope because it literally doesn't exist. If you go places with someone, get to know them, hang out, sorry that's just dating. Your motives don't change the fact that you are going on dates.
