Just in case anyone wants the context: He has been making music in Chicago, he recently performed to a large audience and met London on da track, who offered him an opportunity in LA. She didn’t want to leave Chicago because of her business there. He told her that she doesn’t have to go, he just needs to do this for his music. She got upset because he straight up told her that he valued his career over their relationship and she did this.

Now I’m not a relationship expert, but I will never understand how some of y’all expect people to put you above the shit they have to do. Always put your career, your job, your livelihood first. This was all kinds of fucked up, really fucking abusive and manipulative, he should definitely go to LA with or without her.

Getting upset to find out that your SO is willing to prioritize their career over your relationship is one thing. It’s ok to be disappointed, but there’s still such a thing as overreaction. If you wanna try to make it work, try for an LDR, great. If that’s too much effort, break up. Sucks, but sometimes two people’s life paths are incompatible and you can love each other and still need to end the relationship for the sake of “there is no way to make this work that won’t result in one of us being miserable”. Being upset doesn’t give you the right to behave abusively.

Was I stressed out and uncomfortable when my Partner decided He needed to get more schooling and change jobs, and it meant tightening our belts for longer than we really wanted? FUCK YES.

Was I worried and concerned about what it might mean for our relationship, since if He couldn’t find a job immediately we might be up shit creek without a paddle? FUCK YES.

Was I taking it out on Him, and making Him bear the brunt of my fairly logical emotional fallout from His decision….? FUCK NO~ Because valuing “our relationship” over His future; and thereby our future; would mean staying in a job He hated, making just enough to support both of us, and having very little set aside for emergency situations.

I’d rather have Him happy and working in a field He enjoys, than making sure He gets home by a specific time every night and takes me out for dinner all the damn time. Screw that!

Men deserve better.
