You were sitting at your desk, working through papers and log entries of the last supply delivery with heavy eyes. It's been about two hours now and you could feel your body aching in a dull way from sitting for too long.
You were about to take a break when a sudden voice comes from behind you. "Heya", the voice says and you nearly jump out of your seat while clutching at your chest with wide eyes as you slowly look up from the mess on your desk and make eye contact with a certain Scottish man.
"MacTavish", you press out through gritted teeth while trying to keep your sanity as said soldier steps closer to your desk with that usual menacing grin. He looks like he has an idea and when that man gets ideas it never ends good. "no", you immediately tell him to which you get a pout back from him.
"You didn't even hear me out", he grumbles and crosses his arms over his chest with a huff while squinting at you. You huff a little and cross your arms over your chest as well, giving him a deadpan look.
"I don't need to", you respond with a neutral tone while leaning back in your chair and for a moment there is silence between the two of you.
"But-"
"no"
"but I-"
"still no"
Soap takes a grumbling breath and mutters something under his breath that you didn't quite catch. He probably cussed at you, giving his sour expression. Honestly, he looks more like a scolded child than a soldier right now. "Why are you always so mean to me?", he asks with a pout and stares at you like you took away his favorite candy.
"I'm not being mean, I'm simply not fond of you playing out your little schemes", you huff back with a frown as you eyebrows knit together and now it's his turn to huff.
"That's literally the definition of being mean", Soap respond with a grumble and you just shake your head at his weak comeback. He's clearly running out of ideas on how to get you to listen to him. "So about what I came here for-", he starts again.
"No", you interrupt him sternly, to which he pouts again.
"but-", he tries again.
"I said no", you answer with a deadpan expression.
"But you don't even know-"
"what you're going to ask? I can take an educated guess", you intercept his attempt at monologuing again and raise an eyebrow at the man standing in front of your desk.
"So-", he gets started again and earns an annoyed sigh from you.
"still no", you shake your head and grumble a little afterwards when he pouts again.
"Now, I'm going to take a break and you're gonna leave my office alone, got it?", you sigh out again before getting up from your chair to stretch a little. God, you need a coffee.
Soap mocks what you said under his breath and you just stare at him with a tired and unamused expression to which he looks away from you quickly. "I'm being serious, MacTavish", you tell him with a pointed look and he grumbles again.
"As serious and stubborn as a brick wall", he mumbles to himself under his breath and you just choose to ignore the comment, walking past him and leaving your office without another word.
That was the first mistake you made. Leaving your office without locking the door.
The second was not making sure if Soap actually left the room after you did.
The aftermath of those two mistakes were now blinking in front of you. You were gone for just five minutes tops, to get a damn coffee from the mess hall, and you come back to find your computer screen blinking with a big ERROR written on your screen and a guilty looking Soap standing next to your desk, finding a sudden interest in his boots.
You calmly set the coffee cup down on your desk and stare at the computer for a while longer before you slowly turn your head to look up at the culprit of this mess. You just gape at him like a fish on land.
"Wasn't my fault", Soap mumbles with a small voice while keeping his eyes firmly planted on the ground below him like he was trying to hypnotize it into swallowing him.
"Whose fault was it then?", you deadpan back at him with a raised eyebrow and cross your arms over your chest. Soap stays silent, opening and closing his mouth in failed attempts of retorting to your question.
Then you stare back at your computer with a tired expression. Two hours of work are just gone now.
You run a hand over your face in exasperation and then looking back at Soap with mild anger. Although you're way too tired to yell or scream. So you just think of something else instead.
That's how Soap ends up sitting in the corner of the small tea kitchen of the base in the common area, facing the wall. You are pouring yourself another cup of coffee as Price walks in. He doesn't even notice Soap in the corner, until there is a complaining grumble coming from him, which makes Price nearly trip over his own feet.
"Bloody hell", he breathes out and squints his eyes at Soap in the corner. He stares for a good minute before slowly turning his head towards you with a tired look in his eyes. "Do I even want to know?", the Captain sighs out.
You slowly look up and shake your head. "Nope", you respond while sighing and then holding up the coffee pot in a silent gesture to ask Price if he wants a cup of coffee too.
Captain John Price has long learned not to interfere when Soap messed with your logistics, so he just sighs and nods, holding out his own cup for you to refill.
Next to come into the area is Ghost. He looks no less tired than you or the captain.
But the first thing Simon Riley notices is Soap sitting in the corner, facing the wall. He just huffs in mild amusement before grabbing a teabag from a cupboard and flicking the kettle on. Then he leans against the counter and crosses his arms over his chest, staring at Soap. "What'd he do this time?", his voice is rough from the day.
You just take a sip from your coffee while watching Soap twirl around on the swivel chair with a pout on his face. "you really wanna know?", you ask back at Ghost and raise an eyebrow.
Ghost observes you for a moment before giving a grunt and throwing Soap one last glance.
"Thought so", you murmur before looking back at Soap who was still facing you three with a pout. You give him one look and he grumbles before turning back around to face the wall.
"Time-out sucks", you hear Soap grumble as he crosses his arms over his chest and sulks in the corner.
Ghost gives an amused huff that is as close to a chuckle as it can get from him. Price just breathes out through his nose and shakes his head while taking a sip from his cup.
"Whatever you did, I bet you deserve this", Gaz joins you three in the tea kitchen and gives a grumbling Soap an amused glance. "Seriously though, what'd you do, Johnny?", he muses towards the one put in time out.
"I was only trying to help!", said man responds and turns around again while throwing his arms up in the process. Price raises an eyebrow in a skeptical manner and huffs a little.
"We know how you define 'helping', son. This doesn't help your case", the captain muses back at Soap and chuckles lightly when Soap just throws him a sulky glare. "I said what I said", Price shrugs in his own defense, not taking it back.
"He tried to help me with the supply chain logs", you finally exhale in a deep sigh and pour yourself another coffee while a sudden silence stretches over the area and everyone shares a quick glance.
"oh boy", Gaz breathes out.
"And then he deleted everything", you finish and take another sip from your now refilled cup while staring at Soap, who is now looking down again with a pout.
Silence.
Then Price clears his throat and gives Soap a bit of pitying expression. "You're on your own this time, son", the captain mentions before turning around and leaving the tea kitchen while humming to himself.
"Yeah, I ain't helping you either in this one, mate", Gaz shakes his head before grabbing a snack from the counter and walking after the captain with hurried steps.
The only one who stays is Ghost. He is calmly stirring his tea but makes no move to drink it while looking at Soap.
"This could be a lot worse than just giving you time-out for that, you know", Ghost states. It's not a question, it's a statement and Soap huffs a little.
"I know"
"No, I think you don't"
