Distance
âEven if he hit on me, I probably wouldnât even notice,â he replies with a laugh. Or rather, itâs more that he would pretend not to notice. If he showed that he was aware of it, it would only make his life more complicated than it already is. âBut awwww, thereâs no way anyone could ever take your place as my best friend. Were you worried you were going to lose your spot? Let me reassure you right now, thatâs not going to happen. Youâre my best friend and if someone tries to steal you away from me, Iâm going to slap them as well.â He is more serious as he says that. Hongbin gets along with a bunch of boys, sure, but heâs definitely not as close with any of them as he is with Chanhwi. âAnd how many times do I have to tell you that you are way too biased and that I am not as good as you make me out to be,â he pouts cutely at the other, doing a bit of aegyo without even being aware of it. âYou know Iâm not good when it comes to art. Youâve seen my artwork before and how terrible it was. I may be good at a bunch of things, but art certainly isnât part of it.â
He cannot help but watch as Chanhwi change and he feels horrible. How can he hide himself in front of his best friend and then stare at Chanhwi when he changes? Â âHey, you canât miss things because of me. Imagine if you ended up with bad grades? I canât let that happen. But as for dinner, I didnât really have anywhere special in mind? I mean, if weâre allowed to go out in town we can try to find a little restaurant but otherwise I think weâll have to settle for cafeteria food.â
His breath catches in his throat when Chanhwi is done getting ready. Black button-up shirts will be the death of him. It looks so good on the other, but then again, his best friend has always looked good in everything. He is so focused on memorizing the way Chanhwi looks that he doesnât answer him right away. When he finally moves his gaze away, he appears lost for a few seconds, but then he straightens up and turns his back to Chanhwi so he can grab his phone and search for his wallet. Heâs just grabbed his wallet when he hears the other say âwell whose fault is thatâ. He winces and heâs glad that Chanhwi canât see his face. He bites his lip and his fingers ball up into fists on top of his desk. But then heâs turning around and facing his best friend with another pout.
âIâm not being awkward or avoidyâŠI justâŠIâve just been a bit busy.â Liar. âAnyway, just be careful okay? I wouldnât want you to get expelled or anything like that. But yeah, letâs go.â He starts walking toward the door and opens it before motioning for Chanhwi to step out first. âAfter you, my dear,â he teases.
âThat is true. You can be pretty oblivious and wouldnât know even if it was being said to you.â Chanhwi loved his best friend but Hongbin was naive and oblivious and often didnât see things until it was too late. âThatâs why Iâm so worried. You wouldnât know if he was flirting with you or stealing you from me even if he straight up told you.â Chanhwi smirked. He loved his best friend but there were times when even Hongbin received his jerkish personality. He gave his best friend his most serious look. âIf you ever leave me, I will kill you.â They both know he would, too. Hongbin was his best friend and always had been. His life wouldnât be the same without him. Hongbin was Chanhwiâs and no one elses. He scoffed. âPlease. We both now I donât lie, not to you at least. If I say youâre good then youâre fucking good, got it?â
Chanhwi looked up at his best friend as he continued to put on his pants. âMe? Bad grades? Have you not met me? I have lots of smarties that donât want things revealed.â Chanhwi smirked again, this time mischeviously. Hongbin was the only one aware of how Chanhwi maintained his high grades. âMissing school is worth it if itâs you. You know that.â Chanhwi nodded and shrugged. âWhatever you want, Binnie. It was your idea.â
Maybe the fact that Chanhwi willingly and openly changes in front of Hongbin is a way to seduce the other male. Chanhwi has never been the best seducer. His face is usually enough to draw people in. He never needed to seduce anyone since Chanhwi always got what he wanted. The only thing he doesnât have (yet) is Hongbin to call his own and that thought makes him sick. Chanhwi had seemed dazed for a few moments as his thoughts flooded his head and he shook his head to clear his mind. Hongbin seemed to be zoned out as well and it made the initiate laugh inside. They were so similar and they matched well together. He knew what he had said was harsh but he was hurt by Hongbinâs actions and distance.
âBusy, huh? Being busy has never stopped you before.â Chanhwi gave Hongbinâs back a look before he set about gathering his belongings he needed for the night. âAwww, is little Binnie worried about me? Now Iâm happy.â He smiled. âRight, eat. Iâm starving, letâs go.â Chanhwi made his way to the door and smiled at Hongbin. âThank you, dear.â He responded, a teasing tone to his voice.
