Anyways. Let's talk about how DC accidentally gave Tim and Damian parallel storylines when it comes to their relationship as Robin and wanting to go to College and why Damian is actually so upset about Tim ' quitting '.

So back when Rebirth first happened , there was a subplot happening with Tim where he got accepted into Ivy University on a Genius scholarship and was getting ready to step away from being a vigilante to focus entirely on going to school.

this . . . didn't end the best for tim.

and upon tim's return after this he felt trapped in remaining as robin , kept being a vigilante because he was still needed, felt like he couldn't step away because there was still more work he needed to get done.

Now let's jump to recent comics. Namely Batman & Robin , where Damian talks about stepping away from being Robin because he want's to focus on potentially becoming a doctor

and in Batman 2025 how he got accepted into Gotham U at such a young age and how it's a huge deal for him.

now cut to the most recent issue, to the conversation between Tim and Damian. and Notice how Damian put his acceptance letter in the trash.

Damian want's to go to school, you can tell by his expression, but such a large part of robin philosophy ( originated by Tim and probably pushed onto Damian by accident ) is the fact that 'Batman needs a Robin'. With Tim quitting, Damian probably feels obligated to remain robin, to not go to school and remain loyal to the cause. Damain is upset because he feels like he has to stay as Robin , because Batman cannot be without a Robin, and with Tim hanging up the cape first he has no choice but to remain as Robin.

It's a beautiful , all be it almost 100% accidental parallel between these two and I would love for DC to touch on it if they realized that's what they've done. Probably won't because DC isn't that smart.

Tim retiring from being Robin is correct. It's the most correct natural step in his character because Tim has tried multiple times in the past to retire from being robin / a vigilante and him making this decission for himself and good character writing.

what isn't good character writing is the REASON for him quitting because his entire argument is contrived as hell and honestly so extremely weak.

tim quitting because he doesn't like 'lying to bernard'

you know, the bernard who KNOWS TIM IS ROBIN

the bernard that ISNT FUCKING SUBTLE ABOUT KNOWING TIM IS ROBIN

THE BERNARD THAT TIM AND DAMIAN HAD THIS ACTUAL CONVERSATION IN FRONT OF WITHOUT A MOMENT OF PANIC AND WORRY

BULL. SHIT.

I would buy this reasoning from Tim if DC hasn't gone out of their way on MULTIPLE INSTANCES to show us that Bernard knows about Tim, and Tim should LOGICALLY KNOW BERNARD KNOWS based on both of their behaviors , but instead is retconing all of this to give tim a weak ass excuse to step away from being robin when THERE WAS BETTER AND MORE LOGICALLY SOUND REASONS FOR TIM TO STEP AWAY.

TIM IS ONLY LYING TO BERNARD BECAUSE DC CAN'T FUCKING DECIDE IF HE KNOWS BERNARD KNOWS OR NOT AND IT'S A BULLSHIT REASONING FOR HIM TO RETIRE.

My ability to write, especially fics, moves in waves. i do have the entire fic planned out and i do know how i want to progress with it, but i just , cannot bring myself to put the ideas to words and put the words on a page. it does still sit in the back of my mind and i do wanna keep writing it, just, brain said later.

dying @ the fact that Blackest Night: Batman #3, where tim has to fight off the evil reanimated corpses of both his parents and their murderer, Adventure Comics (2009) #3, where tim sees kon for the first time after his resurrection and has a nervous breakdown in the parisian sewers, and Red Robin #5, where tim almost gets assassinated & loses his damn spleen, all came out on the exact same day. october 14 2009 first international tim drake fucking struggles day
