synopsis: six months of torture getting used to being an ex
First rays of soft morning sunshine bled through the curtains of your shared bedroom. âMorning baby.â Jack sighed voice deep, sending goosebumps down your spine. One of his strong arms was wrapped around your waist while the other laid below his head. You turned around to face him meeting his puppy eyes. âMorninâ love.â you mumbled soft hands trailing over his perfect features. He smiled, eyes roaming over your face committing it to memory like heâd done a hundred times before. âSo pretty.â Jack murmured kissing your neck pulling soft giggles from your lips. He smiled against the delicate skin lying on top of you. âJack weâve errands to run.â you mumbled hands roaming over his broad back. âErrands can wait five minutes.â he chuckled kissing you properly. Lips moving with practiced ease, tongue dipping into your mouth. When you pulled apart for some much needed air Jack smiled looking at you with nothing but pure love and adoration.
You stood in the kitchen swaying to the soft background music wearing his oversized shirt and no matter how many times Jack saw you in this state it left him breathless every time. The simple domesticity of you existing so naturally in his space and making it yours always made him think of your future together. How much prettier youâd look with a rock on your finger and a baby in your belly. Jack walked up behind you arm wrapping tightly around your waist while he buried his face in your neck, morning stubble tickling you. This was comfortable, this was safe, you were his safe place and Jack loved you with every fiber of his being.
That was six months ago. Now rain poured outside the window as Jack stood in the empty kitchen making a single pot of coffee. Everything was different now. Your stuff was gone the whole apartment felt colder without your constant presence. You were gone and so were his dreams of a future with you. Sure they some remnants of those dreams still existed but Jack knew it was just wishful thinking.
Days bled into nightfall and Jack regretted every sharp word said in a fit of fury. Worst thing was coming home after a horrific shift, patient death or hard cases and you werenât there to soother him and get him through the fog of bad thoughts.
A meaningless stupid argument that Jack handled horribly caused your separation. Insults were hurled, feelings were disregarded. Jack blamed himself for it constantly, memories eating away at his already fragile heart. Six months since heâs been able to hold you, kiss you, take care of you. Six months of sleeping alone waking up to an empty apartment, that was if he actually managed to get some sleep. Most nights his PTSD kept him awake and without you being there to lull him back to sleep he struggled.
Jack quickly snapped out of his daydreaming, downed the cup of coffee and got ready for another long night shift at PTMC.
He strolled through the sliding glass doors mentally preparing for all the bullshit he was probably going to deal with tonight. âEvening Dr Abbot.â Shen casually strolled by sipping on what was probably his first ridiculously large cup of sugary coffee for the evening. âHey Shen.â Abbot greeted trying to keep up with the mask that everything was fine and peachy and perfect but everyone could see that was not the case. Six months ago back when you were still together youâd take any and every critical case that came if it meant getting to work with your boyfriend. But now, now you basically avoided the ED like the plague and everyone took notice though no one wanted to ask about it. No one wanted to unravel and unpack whatever the hell happened between you and the night shift attending.
âAbbot weâve got a GSW to the abdomen coming in hot, two minutes out.â Lena announced. âGot it thank you Lena. Alright Shen, Parker youâre with me.â Jack called to his friends and colleagues and as soon as the the paramedics rushed in he sprung into action. âHypertensive, tachycardic at 120bmp, two units of whole blood en route, intubated in field.â Bosco, one of the paramedics, recited. âAlright letâs roll on my count three two one.â nurses and doctors moved in harmony administering meds, and helping take care of the patient all under Jacks careful leadership. âAlright someone call surgery as soon as we stabilize him they need to take him upstairs.â one of the nurses called up and Jack was silently hoping youâd rush in through the doors.
âAlright what do we got?â you pulled on a pair of blue gloves and got around to assessing the severity off the damage. Ellis recalled what meds were in and how his vitals were holding up. âAlright Iâm taking him up, got an OR ready.â as you wheeled the patient out your eyes locked with Jacks, tension almost palpable.
After the patient was upstairs Jack ripped off his gloves, running his hands through the soft curls on his head. âYou okay man?â Shen asked. âJust peachy.â his tone was short and clipped storming out of T1.
Not being with you was horrible, having to see you around the hospital knowing he couldnât call you his anymore was absolute torture. Jack would even go as far as calling it his worst nightmare, because thatâs exactly what it was. âFuckinâ hell.â he groaned stepping out into the ambulance bay. Even hours after seeing you he wasnât able to calm himself down. Thatâs just the kind of effect you had on him. Even after six months of being separated you still managed to make him feel lightheaded and dizzy.
Months passed in this weird dance you two had going on. Youâd avoid each other like the plague but as soon as you were in closer proximity itâd be nothing but longing gazes and tension so thick you could cut it with a surgical scalpel. It didnât help that Jacks heart sped up at the mere mention of your name.
Right now the ED wasnât so busy. Most of the patients were asleep and stable and for the first time in a long time the waiting room wasnât bursting at the seams. But unfortunately the Pitt could never stay at peace for too long it was like the whole building was cursed.
âFemale late twenties early thirties, car vs pedestrian multiple lacerations, road rash possible tib fib fracture. Lower systolic BP, tachycardic at 110bmp.â Jacks heart stopped seeing a familiar loc of hair. Blood rushed to his head, ears ringing drowning out the ED noise and he swore he was about to collapse. Tired eyes manically examining the girl on the stretcher, she looked like you. Same delicate soft features, same hair only now tangled messy with blood, the only thing she wasnât wearing your usual necklace. âDr. Abbot?â Cruz called out trying to break the older man out of his trance. âF-fuck I-â Jack looked at the woman on the table again hands shaking, cold sweat beading along his brow and forehead. âShit I need to step out Shen you got this one?â Shen put a thumbs up and Jack practically ran out into the ambulance bay.
His breathing was a lot heavier and the cool night air didnât do anything to soothe him. âAbbot?â Shen called out about fifteen minutes later. Jack spared him a glance while Shen sat down next to older man. âYou okay?â he asked. âYeah I just- Fuck I thought that was her. I-I thought it was her on that stretcher injured and bleeding and I donât know I just froze.â Jack rambled voice carried by the silence of the night. âYou should talk to her, get her back.â Shen said calmly as if discussing the weather outside. Jack just stared at him blankly like the other man grew another head. âIâm serious. Itâs painfully obvious you still miss each other. Go talk to her.â he continued on. âAnyway I gotta get back inside talk to me if you need anything.â Shen patted him on the back and slipped back inside.
Jack sat out there in that ambulance bay mulling over the strange idea. Shen was right he did miss you terribly but he didnât know if you felt the same way. It felt weird. Being taken care of like this, usually he was the one checking up on his staff not the other way around. After a few more minutes in the silent ambulance bay he reluctantly went back inside, merging back into the chaos.
Finally the clock struck seven am and the day shift started rolling in. Jack sped through his hand offs as quickly as he possibly could wanting nothing more than to run out of that cursed building. Robby noticed the haste in his friendâs step and the determination on his face but made no attempt to dig further. âAlright come on get out Iâll handle hand offs.â Shen murmured both men leaning against the nurses station. âYou sure?â Abbot was never the one to leave early or let Shen boss his ass around but the situation was dire. âYeah go before Robby catches you.â Jack mumbled a thank you and practically ran out of the ED as fast as his prosthetic allowed him to.
Jack knew you werenât scheduled for today he had the board practically memorized. So sometime between four and seven am he decided heâd drive to your place and pour his heart out right after his shift. If you werenât gonna take him back heâd learn to live with that, but he needed to make amends. Or at least try to. He raced through the familiar Pittsburg streets and to your apartment.
As he parked out front and made his way to your floor something in his chest tightened. Months of imagining this moment and working up the courage to talk to you were finally gonna come true. The thought both excited and terrified him. With trembling hands he knocked on the wooden door number sixteen. No answer. Insecurities and doubts instantly flooded his tired mind and made him question every decision leading up to this.
âJack?â your voice spoke behind him. He swiftly turned around and was met face to face with you. You looked like you just got done with one of your morning runs, sweat glistening on your skin wearing nothing but shorts and a sports bra.
âI-Iâm sorry for everything. Six months ago when we fought I fucked up I said things I didnât mean and I hurt you. And I spent the last six months regretting ever doing that. You-you mean the world to me and even after these stupid six moths I still love you. I never stopped loving you and I donât think I ever will. Itâs been torture not being able to hold you and kiss you and coming home to an empty apartment god that sucked the most. They uhm they brought in a female patient last night. Car vs pedestrian. She had multiple lacerations and bruises and road rash, couple of fractures but what scared me the most was she reminded me of you. She looked so much like you I-I thought you got hit by a car. I thought Iâd lost you and I think thatâs the first time in a while that I was actually terrified. I froze so bad I couldnât even asses the patient which is outright ridiculous considering Iâve intubated people while getting shot at. The point is seeing your resemblance in that injured woman reminded me how fragile everything is and how much Iâd regret not apologizing to you. And god how big of an idiot I would be if I chased away the most perfect woman because of my own mistakes. I-I donât know if youâre ready to take me back or hell even accept this poorly thought out apology but I just had to say it. Truth is every time I think about the future youâre there, by my side. I want to make that happen. I know it was shit coming unannounced like this but I had to tell you everything.â you didnât interrupt as Jack poured his heart out.
You could tell how nervous and even scared. So you stood there in silence Jack fiddling with the watch on his hand and you processing everything heâd said. Without another thought you threw your arms around his neck lips smashing against his. It felt so good so natural as his large hands rested on your waist and hips. Lips moving in sync soft breaths ghosting over your skin. Jack poured every pent up emotion into that kiss and it was perfect.
âI never stopped loving you either.â you said breathlessly after finally pulling away. Jack sighed with relief feeling the tension practically melt off of his shoulders. âI-I promise Iâll never fuck yo like that again.â and finally after many long months of waiting, crying and going absolutely insane Jack had you back in his arms.
And he sure as hell wants letting you go any time soon.

synopsis: jack abbot trying to survive a Valentineâs Day shift knowing he had the prettiest girlfriend waiting at home
Valentines day shift. Jack would give just about anything not to be in the ED today. He had planned a whole evening just for you two with a reservation at that nice restaurant you really liked and a chilly glass of champagne in the fridge for after. Everything was supposed to be perfect except thatâs not how the universe treated Jack Abbot.
So on the one day you two werenât supposed to work he got called in.
âFive more minutes.â you mumbled as Jack started to get up at the ass crack of dawn. âMâ sorry honey.â he hummed, voice deep with lingering sleep. âNoo.â a soft whine escaped your throat and it took everything in Jack not to just call in sick. âIâll see you tonight honey.â he gently kissed your forehead, cheeks and then lips before slipping out of the shared apartment.
The shift was, for a lack of a better word, hell. For starters his prosthetic started killing him as soon as he walked through the sliding glass doors, practically drilling into the soft flesh with every pained step. The patients were more agitated than usual lashing out at hospital staff with Jack having to step in multiple times. Not to mention the amount of stupidity people displayed today. He already lost count of how many candle wax burns and accidental sex injuries people caused to each other. The worst thing was knowing you were at home patiently waiting for him, probably wearing that nice lacy slip dress he liked. God the thought of that thing made his head fuzzy.
Finally after almost five hours of running around like a headless chicken Jack managed to find five minutes to sit down and actually rest his legs. He sunk into the lounge room couch with a groan.
After a few moments of sitting in silence Jack decided to check his phone and text you to apologize again for leaving you all alone on valentines. A sense of relief flooded him when he saw two notifications from you. Though nothing couldâve prepared him for what you sent.
Two pictures of you in new burgundy lingerie. It hugged you in all the right places. The soft lace resting over your perky tits and the incredibly small thongs barely covered your round ass. As soon as his eyes landed on the photos all of the blood in his body ran way down south. Jack felt his eyes bulge out of his head and his cock strain against the hospital scrubs. âJesus fuckinâ Christ.â he cursed under his breath running a large hand over his tired face. Jack took deep breaths trying to steady his racing heart and calm himself down. Dirty thoughts ran through his brain, ones of you tangled in pristine white sheets face smushed in the pillows, ass up in the air as his cock drove into you. He imagined the way your lips would feel wrapped around him while his hands tugged on your hair.
The phone still laid on his thigh when it started softly buzzing and vibrating. Jack let out a breathless chuckle when your icon popped up on the screen.
âYouâre playing a dangerous game ya know that?â he hummed voice dangerously low. âJust some motivation to help you get through the shift.â he could hear the smirk in your voice and the teasing undertone. âSee ya at home honey.â you purred on the other end of the line.
The rest of the shift ran agonizingly slow. It almost felt like the clock was going backwards. The images of your perfect body kept replaying in his head like a movie he couldnât turn off or look away from, not that he wanted to anyway.
Finally, finally after five more long hours Jack managed to escape the ED. The cold air hit him like a wave but it did nothing to soothe the heat blooming in his chest and lower stomach.
Jack was almost certain he broke the speed limit multiple times while trying to get home. He could worry about those tickets later the only thing that mattered right now was coming home as fast as possible.
He fiddled around with the keys for a few seconds before finally opening the front door. âHoney Iâm home!â he called out slipping off his work boots. No response. âLove?â he called out again entering further into the apartment. He checked the living room, and kitchen before finally walking into your guys bedroom.
You were laying there still in that burgundy underwear all happy and docile. âMhm you came home early.â you rose to your knees and gently kissed him. Jack smiled into the kiss his hands wrapping around your bare waist. âYouâre such a tease.â he mumbled against your lips. âYeah?â you whispered. âYeah.â he confirmed lips latching onto your neck. He kissed and sucked onto the delicate skin before biting down on your shoulder. You hissed as he soothed the spot with a few more light kisses.
You stood up from the bed pushing him to sit down as you kneeled on the floor in front of him. Jack looked at you with those puppy brown eyes nervously waiting for your next move. You gingerly took off the carbon prosthetic leg before fiddling with the zipper of his cargo pants. Jack nodded hands already gripping the fresh sheets knuckles turning white. Your delicate hands helped him pull down the pants and boxers, cock finally springing free hitting his lower belly. You sat back on your heels as Jack pumped himself a few times. âOpen up.â he tapped the tip of his cock against your pretty pink lips. You obliged happily taking him in your mouth. âAtta girl.â Jack hummed eyes raking over your face and body. Your hands gripped his thighs while his tangled in your hair not pulling just gently guiding. As you sank further his tip started hitting the very back of your throat tears pooling in the corner of your pretty eyes. Jack swiped at the few stray salty tears with his thumb as you kept bobbing your head. Within seconds you picked up the pace causing Jacks body to convulse and lock up. His face contorted in pleasure, eyebrows furrowed and eyes screwed shut. âFuck, fuck thatâs it.â he said breathlessly. You chocked on his cock sending vibration running straight through every inch of his body. Jack let out another low groan head thrown back in ecstasy as white salty liquid shot in to your throat. âFuck youâre amazing. Now let me take care of you, you deserve it.â Jacks soft praise sent goosebumps running over your skin.
âLay down for me hm?â you obeyed without another word. âGood girl.â he cooed continuing to trail feather light kisses down your stomach. With precise hands he unclasped your bra with one swift movement letting cold air hit your already hard nipples. He twisted and pinched one between his fingers as his mouth traveled further down getting closer and closer to where you wanted, no needed him to be. His hands gripped your soft plush thighs, kneading the muscle as he spread them apart. Your panties were already soaked through and he chuckled at the sight hot breath ghosting over your clothed pussy. âPlease Jack need ya so badâŚâ you whined trying to get any kind of friction. âDonât worry baby Iâll take good care of you.â with two fingers he slipped your panties off exposing you to the cold air. Without another second to waste he dove right in licking a long stripe up your folds. Your led immediately tried to clamp shut but his strong arms held them apart. âF-fuckâŚâ you breath out chest rising and falling steadily. You could feel him smirk against your heat tongue diving right in before pulling out to lick your puffy clit.
He kept lapping at your pussy like a starved man before slipping two fingers inside. You sucked in a sharp breath back arching off the soft mattress. âMâ so close-â you moaned tightly gripping on to his salt and pepper curls grinding your hips against his tongue. âMhm not yet sweetheart want you coming on my cock.â Jack hummed pulling away from your pussy slick coating his lips and chin. You whined desperately trying to chase relief. Jack chuckled grabbing your hips and pulling himself closer.
âSay the word and Iâll stop.â he whispered softly into your ear, you nodded with acknowledgement as he carefully lined himself up. With another nod Jack held your hips in place pushing in inch by inch. Quiet moans and soft whines slipped past your slick lips as he bottomed out. Jacks breathing was heavier, muscular chest heaving up and down feeling your plush walls around his dick. The thickness of his cock sent your head spiraling and it took you a few moments to adjust before you signaled him to start moving.
Like the gentleman he is Jack started slow not wanting to hurt you in any way. Though that slow loving pace soon turned more brutal hips snapping into yours with amazing speed as his tip kissed the entrance to your cervix. The deep thrusts and quick pace had you seeing stars within mere moments. âYeah, yeah doing so good for me baby.â he grunted into your ear hot breath fanning over the side of your face. Your nails clawed over his wide back and shoulder gripping onto whatever muscle you could grab. Jack chuckled feeling your hands all over him while leaving small hickeys and marks over your neck. âJack,Jack mâ so close pleaseâŚâ you moaned voice bouncing off of bedroom walls. âYeah you wanna come for me?â you nodded eagerly. âCome on then.â he hummed thumb circling over your sensitive clit. The coil in your stomach tightened impossibly hard with each thrust. Every touch, every soft kiss only added to your pleasure and with a few more well angled thrusts Jack had you coming around his cock. The coil in your stomach snapped blinding hot pleasure hit you in waves your body shaking, back arching off the bed. His hips stammered as you clenched around him and soon enough he came as well. He helped ease you through the orgasm before his hips stilled inside of you. âFuck you were so good for me pretty girl.â he smiled admiring the mess between your thighs as he pulled out. âI love you so much.â Jack gently kissed your forehead hands rubbing your sore hips. You flashed a small smile still coming down from cloud nine.
He jumped off the bed leaving the room to grab a towel and glass of water. Jack carefully cleaned the mess off your thighs and on the bed before laying down next to you, arms instantly wrapping around your tired body. âI love you.â you mumbled practically half asleep while pressing your lips against his. âI love you too.â he mumbled stroking your hair before both of you drifted off to sleep.
a/n the things I want to say about this man would land me straight in a mental asylum
synopsis: jack abbot experiences love again after so long
warning: implied age gap, slight sexual tension, mentions of infidelity
Jack Abbot was handsome only getting prettier with age anyone with half a mind could see that. With that perfectly toned body and salt and pepper curls he looked breathtaking. What didnât meet the eye though was the prosthetic leg hiding under his pants or the scars that ran deep f below freckled skin.
Which is why after his wifeâs death he couldnât date again. He couldnât let anyone see the real Jack Abbot, the PTSD and broken soul hidden deep within steel armour, and besides it wasnât like anyone could even think to compete with his deceased wife. Not the pretty new nurse or the blonde barista from his favorite coffee shop. There was not a single woman in the world that could come close to his wifeâs beauty and grace.
So it was quite a shock to the attending physician how his heart sped up when his brown eyes landed on you, a new third year resident at the infamous PTMC.
Something about the way you carried yourself with precision and ease like youâd already mapped the ED out weeks ago instantly drew his attention.
You moved silently through the mess with a certain kind of determination Jack Abbot appreciated. The only thing he didnât appreciate was you working stupid day shifts. What he wouldnât give to be able to see your face and your work every single night but as his luck would have it heâd have to settle for only seeing you during handoff.
âRough shift?â Jack chuckled leaning against the nurses desk as you were charting. âYou wouldnât believe me.â you groaned rubbing your tired eyes. âFinish charting and get home.â from across the central hub Robby shot Abbot a knowing glance. Robby could always see how his friends eyes softened whenever they laid on you. âAre you sure? I still have to check up on my patient in north three and then find the son of my patient in-â you kept rambling but Jack stopped you placing a heavy but gentle hand on your tense shoulder. âDonât worry Iâll handle it. Go home get some rest you deserve it.â you flashed a tired smile in his direction and Jack practically felt his heart stop. Heat creeped up his face and neck as he quickly mumbled some half assed excuse and left not wanting to embarrass himself in front of you.
âSo you wanna tell me why the new R3 got your panties in a bunch?â Robby teased walking into the bathroom after him only a few steps behind him. âZip it.â Jack mumbled with a chuckle running his hands through the soft greyish curls before pushing past his friend and back into the ED.
A few days later Abbot stepped into the ER ready for the night shift to begin as Shen talked his ear off about some random patient. But every noise and sound from Shen and the department was quickly drowned out by the uproar of his pounding heart. Butterflies swarmed in his stomach which he didnât even know could happen anymore and all that because of you.
Jack always thought you looked perfect in your scrubs, messy hair and light makeup but that couldnât compare to how radiant you looked right now. You wore a bit more makeup than usual and your hair held a slight curl as it rested over your shoulders and back. Instead of the usual black hospital issued scrubs you wore a denim skirt and a nice top with a leather jacket. Jack was stunned. Completely drowning out the familiar chaos as his gaze stayed glued to your form.
âLooking good honey.â Dana smiled throwing compliments with that heavy accent. âThanks Dana, Cassie helped me.â you giggled twirling by the nurses station to show off the full fit.
As you finished one more chart and gossiped a little more with Perlah and Princess Jack approached you. âSo? Whatâs the special occasion?â he chuckled trying to be subtle about the way he checked you out. âWell a girls gotta have some fun once in a while.â you giggled. Jack cocked an eyebrow, puppy brown eyes trailing, studying your face. âI happen to have a date for once in my life.â you chuckled twirling a stray loc of hair back in place. As soon as the words left your perfectly plump lips Jack froze. He felt his chest tighten and his heart start breaking, but he couldnât let you know that. No it wasnât right. There was nothing between you two so Jack had no right to be mad about you going out with someone. âWell uhm good luck on your date have fun.â Jack cleared his throat. âGood luck on your shift.â you flashed him another smile as Jack dipped into one of the patient rooms.
During the entirety of his twelve hour bullshit night shift Jack tried to do anything and everything to keep his mind off of the fact that another guy was buying you drinks and probably getting to take you home tonight. Get you out of that short skirt and into his sheets. His thoughts kept running wild all circling back to that lucky bastard whose face Jack wanted to cave in.
Patient after patient, emergency after emergency and the clock finally struck seven am. Soon enough Jacks worst nightmare would happen. Youâd walk into the ED all happy and giggly mushing about your date and Jack would have to hear all about it. Heâd have to stand by and watch another guy make you happy, a guy that in his eyes wasnât nearly good enough for you. And just as his luck would have it when he stepped out of trauma room two with bloody hands and sweat beading on his forehead there you were all giddy and practically bouncing with excitement as you recalled last night to Perlah and Princess.
âI take it last night went well?â Jack grumbled behind you. His eyes were still so soft while looking at you but his voice held a certain edge to it. âUhh yeah actually. He took me out for some drinks at the bar and paid for everything and weâre going out again this weekend.â the last thing Jack wanted to hear. His poor heart ached more and more. âI-I uhm Iâm really glad.â he mumbled and left.
Over the next few weeks Jack noticed how your smile got a little brighter every time someone mentioned your new boyfriend. How ecstatic you got just talking about him like he personally plucked the stars from heavens above. It pissed him off to no end. God he would do just about anything to have you talk about him that way. To be the one that got to take you out on cute dates be a gentleman and treat you nice and if he was lucky enough heâd wake up to your soft features the next morning. You were the first girl after his wife to make him feel this young and happy again but as his shit luck would have it he couldnât have you not now, probanly not ever.
Months passed and the hole in Jacks heart just got larger and larger. Seeing him come pick you up as Jack rolled in to the night shift hurt more than his stupid prosthetic leg ever could. That pain was nothing compared to his chest ripping along the fragile seams.
But that all changed when one morning you came into work with remnants of last nights makeup still caked on your face. Your eyes werenât sharp and bright as usual they were red rimmed presumably from crying and still glossy. Jack immediately picked up on your changed demeanor as soon as you stepped into the ED. So before he left he made sure to suss out whatever the hell happened. âWho turned your smile upside down? Youâre usually in a better mood at this hour. So everything okay?âhe hummed trying to keep the conversation lighthearted for your sake. âActually uhm no.â Jack instantly picked up on the slight quiver in your bottom lip. Tears welled up in your eyes as he gently held your shoulders. âCome on letâs get you some air.â Jack ever so gently guided you out of the hospital and upstairs to the roof. The cold air hit you like a wave making every hair on your body stand up straight. Like the gentleman he is Jack took his fleece off and wrapped it tightly around you. âYou wanna tell me what happened?â his voice cut through the cold Pittsburg morning. âHe uhm he cheated on me. Found him in bed this morning with my neighbour.â tears threatened to spill over your lash line and down your reddened cheeks. Jacks strong arms wrapped around your trembling body and for a moment you felt truly safe. âHe doesnât deserve you the guys an ass.â his gruff steady voice sent shivers up your spine. âIt just sucks I really like him.â you mumbled into his shoulder. âDonât dwell on it. I know it sucks but if he really threw his chance with you away for some random girl then he really wasnât worth the effort or energy.â in that moment Jack wanted nothing more but to beat the shit out of that guy for ever hurting you but for now heâd settle for comforting you and running his fingers through your soft hair.
After a little while with his charm and wit Jack managed to coax a smile to your tired face. Your teary chuckles made his heart swell knowing it was him who made that sweet noise rise from your throat. Soon enough you made your way back inside to start your shift.
âTalk to me if you need anything alright?â Jack offered as he reluctantly left the ER.
From that point on he was convinced heâd finally get a chance to ask you out or at least get closer to you but then again when has his life ever gone as planned. On the morning he finally got the balls to ask you out your ex showed up with some cheap ass flowers and a pathetic excuse to see you.
This kept happening over the next few days and it made Jacks blood boil. Who the hell does this guy think he is disrupting his plans and making your life miserable. Jack couldnât let that slide anymore and he was determined to turn this incredibly crappy situation around.
âHave you ever thought about switching to night shift?â Jack asked you out of the blue one day. âNot really why?â you chuckled. âWell itâd be a great way to shake your ex off and besides youâd fit right in the night shift loves you.â I love you. For the sake of your friendship and his poor heart he had to keep that last part for himself and his therapist. âYouâre just full of bright ideas arenât you Dr Abbot.â the way you said his title made something warm bloom in his chest and stomach. âIâll think about it, it might actually work.â your soft hand brushed along his arm before bidding goodbye and leaving.
Just that one thought about you working nights and Jack getting to see you so much is what helped him power through the shift.
A few days later during morning hand offs Jack noticed you werenât around. The ED was already overcrowded and bursting at the seams so instead of bothering anyone he just figured you had a well deserved day off.
The surprise only came later that evening when you strolled into the department with Shen both holding matching comically large cups of coffee. âAre my eyes deceiving me?â Jack asked Robby. âAn amazing genie called Dr Robby fulfilled your wildest wish.â Robby hummed not glancing up from the patient chart. Jack felt like a kid on Christmas morning when he went up to greet you.
âSo you joined the walking dead?â you giggled at his comment. âGuess so. I look forward to working with you Jack.â if he thought you saying his title was hot you saying his name so nicely was ten times hotter. God what were you doing to him?
And finally life started to look up. Jack had the pleasure of seeing you and working with you in the ED and it only helped your relationship evolve. Soon enough you noticed that that flirty little friendship sent your heart pounding and head spinning. The overcrowded ED somehow always left you working in very close proximity with Jack.
Feather light touches and lingering glances that sent butterflies running crazy in your tummy. The way his biceps strained against the tight hospital scrubs and the way his large hands always moved you gently out of the way sent a whirlwind of thoughts running around your head, some a lot dirtier than others.
Of course it wasnât like you could hide anything from the hospital staff after all the nurses loved to gossip more than anything.
âIâd say theyâre already dating in secret.â Lena said slipping a twenty to Ahmad. âNah Abbots brave but not that brave Iâd say theyâre not dating yet but will be in less than a month.â Shen chimed in. âYâall could not be further from the truth Iâm saying friends with benefits turned to a relationship in less than a week.â Ellis chuckled adding another thirty to the betting pool.
As much as you loved the subtle touches and flirty comments you needed more you craved more. You wanted so badly to fall asleep on his strong chest with his taut muscles wrapped around you. In the early mornings or quiet of the night you were often left wondering what his soft lips would feel on yours or how deliciously smooth his morning voice would sound whispering in your ear.
Of course because Jack felt the same for weeks now heâd been working on a foolproof plan to ask you out. Heâd wait one evening after your shift and walk you to your car before asking you out to that restaurant on third you always raved about. Heâd planned everything to a T but as usual that plan sank like the titanic pretty soon.
The shift had dragged on longer than usual patients rushing in, the ED in chaos with the new systems not working properly and Jack was pissed. More so than usual because his prosthetic was digging harshly into the soft flesh of his leg. His gait was unsteady favouring one leg over the other as he tried to hide any sign of weakness or pain. But unfortunately there was no way he could hide something like that from you. When you heard him subtly grunt and lean heavily on the counter you couldnât let this slide.
âOkay come on this is starting to get ridiculous.â you huffed. âWhat is?â Jack asked trying to act clueless but another subtle groan blew his cover. âYouâre in pain Jack. It may not be obvious to everyone else but I can see it clearly as day. Come on.â you didnât even let him protest as you laced your fingers with his and dragged him to an open room.
âSit down.â something about the way you commanded and ordered him around sent new ideas fleeting through his head. He of course obeyed and sat down on the bed. You kneeled in front of him and gently slipped the prosthetic off. Something about the whole situation felt so intimate and vulnerable. This was the first time since his wifeâs death that Jack allowed someone to see through the cracks of his well built plot of armour. It just felt so right with you.
A soft sigh of relief slipped past his lips as you gently put an ice pack on his stump massaging the sore muscles. Your hands were tender but left a pleasantly burning sensation in their wake. âI wanna take you out.â Jack blurted. His mouth ran faster than his brain could process the words that slipped past. It took a moment for your own brain to register what he said as your eyes scanned his face. âS-sorry I-I planned the whole thing I wanted to ask you out for a while I just never got the courage or the opportunity. I had this whole speech prepared ready to convince you but I just-â you silenced him with a kiss. Everything was intoxicating. The way one of his large hands cupped the back of your neck as the other rested on your waist sent goosebumps running down your skin. Your mouths moved in perfect sync soft breaths ghosting your face. He tentatively licked your bottom lip and you smiled letting his tongue dip inside. Everything about the situation was even better than either of you could imagine. Jack let out a small groan, head floating somewhere in the clouds as his blood rushed way down south. âIâd love to go out with you.â Jack was in heaven. The months of waiting patiently going insane every time he saw you with that asshole weâre a hundred percent worth it. For the first time in a long time he felt truly happy and utterly, hopelessly in love.

a/n had to write one for the night shifts princess
Inside the ED mayhem Shen was the definition of cool, calm and collected. Everyone knew him as the comic relief that unbothered presence always sipping on a large late.
Shen worked the night shift in one of the busiest EDs in the country but nothing could shake the man. Mangled limbs, mothers weeping after their children, cases of abandonment, abuse, neglect the list goes on and on but he never showed an ounce of anxiety or fear.
Even during the EDs darkest hours Attending physician John Shen didnât falter. Steady hands, sharp features, unyielding gaze.
On the day of the Pittfest shooting even the seasoned Dr Robby cracked under the weight of injuries and suffering. Everyone was tense running around like headless flys. Hands shaking, nerves on edge. Everyone except Dr Shen. As always he moved through triage with surgical precision sending patient after patient inside for treatment. His work was spotless absolutely zero signs of any kind of distress or pain.
Everything changed when you didnât clock in to your night shift one evening.
In the last couple of months you and Josh had become really good friends often paying a visit to the closest Dunkinâ Donuts before your shift. There were bets and speculations going around whether you and Shen were more than friends but no one could come to a concrete answer. All they knew was that Dr John Shen was prepared to cross hell and back for you.
âAnyone seen sunshine?â he didnât even greet the nurses wasting no time in searching for you. âNo hun she hasnât come in yet. Sheâs probably running late.â Lena the charge nurse flashed a soft smile before going back to tending to her duties. Shen sighed heading off to the lockers to drop his stuff. Before he started seeing patients and doing rounds he tried calling your phone a few times but no answer everything went straight to voicemail.
An hour after your shift started you still hadnât showed up which was highly unusual seeing as you were always very punctual. âRelax Shen Iâm sure she just overslept or got caught up with something.â Abbot placed a firm hand on his shoulder. Johnâs features were still sharp, still cool but his chest tightened with worry. The comically large cup of coffee was disappearing quicker than usual and there was a noticeable amount of tension in his shoulder.
âYeah, yeah youâre right.â he said trying to hide the anxiety lacing every syllable. Shen had been a doctor long enough so his fast main already thought of fifty different scenarios of you getting hurt while on your way to work and why you still havenât walked through the ED doors.
âElderly woman late sixties wandered out of her nursing home in front of a car woman who saved her is behind us. Some road rash slightly tachycardic, SATS steady, BP stable.â the paramedics wheeled the elderly woman into T1 as per Lenas instructions. Ellis and another med student went to deal with the woman as Abbot and Walsh waited for the second victim.
âWe got a Jane Doe! No ID no purse no nothing. Got hit by the car head on. Fractured leg, possible TBI and or concussion, multiple lacerations from the glass. Tachycardic at 126 possible hypovolemic shock and internal bleeding. Hypotensive.â the EMT listed while wheeling the other much younger woman into T2.
âThatâs not Jane doe, thatâs fuck-!â Abbot cursed sprinting after the paramedics. As soon as Walsh caught on to what he was saying she ran right after him.
In that moment Shen finally lifted his from the computer and looked into trauma two. When he saw the familiar bracelet dangling on your right wrist his heart stopped beating. Cold sweat beaded at the nape of his neck and he bolted upright.
âFuck fuck fuck! Thatâs why she didnât come in.â and for the first time in their lives the ED staff saw John Shen truly and absolutely terrified. âShen we got her sheâs gonna be okay I promise.â Abbots voice cut through the beeping monitors. Even if he reallywanted to Shen couldnât help. He stood frozen at the foot of the gurney staring at your limp form. Blood seeped from your cuts staining your perfect skin.
Everyone called you sunshine because you were just that. Always kind and funny with a bright smile plastered on your face. The scene in front of his was just the opposite. Your mouth hung open as a med student pumped air. Your piercing eyes were looking around in a frenzy.
The beeping of a heart monitor was a sound Shen grew quite accustomed to. What he wasnât accustomed to however was the sound of your heart monitor flatlining.
âV-fib! Starting compression charge the paddles!â Abbots barked orders his loud voice bouncing off the sterile walls.
âCharging to two hundred.â someone said. Shen didnât even know who his eyes were glued to your bloody body.
âClear!â another voice yelled. Your chest shot up with the shock but the monitor was still flatlining.
âResuming compressions, push another milligram of epi and charge to two hundred.â Walsh spoke or so Shen thought he didnât even know at this point. The ringing in his ears synched with the continuous flatline forming a painful deafening symphony.
âCharging to two hundred, clear!â you chest shot up again and this time the monitor started beeping steadily. Small lines shot up and down across the screen signaling the work of your heart. âOkay call whoeverâs the attending prep an OR we gotta take her upstairs now.â the nurses nodded and wheeled you out of the trauma room.
Shen kept his gaze glued to the cold tiled floor leaving without another word.
Abbot slipped his gloves off before carding through the grayish curls adorning his head. âYou think sheâs gonna be okay?â Walsh asked. âFuck I hope so. Thereâs a ton of internal bleeding and a possible TBI. Itâll be a miracle if she survives the surgery let alone if she comes out with no long term consequences.â Abbot huffed. It always hurt seeing your close ones in pain let alone having to be the one to try and take away that pain.
After another moment of taking in the gravity of the situation and the way the white floor was painted with your blood Abbot followed by Walsh stepped out into the central hub.
âLena whereâs Shen?â The attending asked when he noticed the absence of the younger man.
âShit I think he went to PEDSâ Abbot picked up his step and stepped into the colorful room.
Colorful happy animals and cartoonish animals adorned the walls a stark contrast to what Shen was feeling at the moment. Hidden by some medical equipment Abbot saw Shen on the floor his back against the wall, knees curled into his chest. Jack instantly noticed the way John struggled to take a full breath. His chest was heaving but no air was coming in. âHey, hey youâre having a panic attack okay? You gotta breathe Shen come on.â Abbot instructed tilting his head up to relieve some of the pressure off of his diaphragm.
Abbots hazel eyes stared into Johnâs brown ones seeing nothing but absolute dread and despair. âSheâs in good hands Shamsi is attending tonight. Come on Shen.â Abbot mumbled into the darkness. John couldnât respond any words trying to come out got caught in the back of his throat. The world was collapsing around him and there was nothing he could do about it. His scrubs were way too tight, the ringing in his ears couldnât seem to quiet down and it felt like the cartoonish animals were mocking his suffering. Abbot wrapped his arms around the fellow attending and thatâs when a sob tore from Johnâs throat.
Tears brimmed at his waterline as he tried to contain himself. âI know, I know it hurts but sheâs gonna be okay.â Abbot reassured. âY-you canât know that. She could have a TBI and fall into a coma or a ruptured spleen and bleed out on the table, she could have permanent nerve damage and-â he hiccuped. âYou canât think like that. Sheâs strong and damn stubborn. Sheâll pull through. Youâre not doing anyone a favor by immediately thinking of the worst case scenario. Come on the night is still young and our shift is far from over.â somehow Abbot always knew what to say like he had been through every worst possible situation and lived to tell the tale.
Hours later Shen was allowed to see me in the ICU. When he came in he could taste bile at the back of his throat when he saw you hooked up to all those tubes, machines, lines, and monitors. Everything about this was so undeniably wrong on so many levels. Your rose cheeks lost their color and you somehow seemed smaller under the bright hospital lighting. You were dressed in a standard hospital gown instead of your decorated scrubs. You looked so peaceful like you were just taking a nap and thatâs probably what made his heart ache even more. The fact he kept hoping youâd wake up any second and then ask if he wanted to pick up your coffee.
Unbeknownst to anyone when Shen came in for his shift he did actually pick up your usual order only you didnât get to drink it and it still sits full inside the fridge. Not even Pittfest managed to get him this shaken up. He probably saw hundreds of patients that day some in worse condition than you were in but none of them held the same value.
The next morning when the day shift started rolling in everyone saw the shift in his demeanor. No matter how many hours he worked Shen never looked exhausted or tired like the rest of them but not he looked about ready to collapse.
âWhat happened to Shen?â Robby asked quietly his voice further masked by the usual ED chaos.
âSunshine was late for work and then two hours later got wheeled in as a trauma patient. Car vs ped. Apparently she jumped in the way to save an elderly woman and got hit head on.â Abbot explained in a hushed voice.
âShit. How severe?â Robby whispered running a hand over his tired face.
âA lot of internal bleeding, possible TBI, fractured leg, tons of lacerations and a lot of blood. Shamsi operated last night but itâll be a miracle if she even wakes up.â upon hearing the news Robby sighed heavily. It was never easy to loose a brilliant doctor and a good friend. âFucking hell.â he exhaled. âIâve got Shen covered just make sure nothing happens in the day shift with sunshine.â Robby nodded like a man accepting a grave mission.
âShen wait up!â Abbot ran after him with an unsure gait.
âI-I need to go home I think.â Shen mumbled.
âPlease if you need anything even if itâs just a shoulder to cry on call me.â Abbot knew what loss felt like and he knew exactly what the younger guy was feeling.
Shen nodded and without another word got into his car and drove off.
John Shen lived alone so the apartment was always empty and always quiet when he came home but today after everything the silence felt particularly suffocating. Usually heâd welcome the peace with open arms but now peace meant heâd be alone with his thoughts. His thoughts that were currently running in circles around his pounding head. So after a quick shower he slipped back into a pair of clean scrubs and headed back for the PTMC.
âHoney what are you doing here? You should go home get some rest.â Donna said with a sympathetic smile. âI canât itâs too quiet I-I need a distraction or something.â Shen mumbled his hands were shaking but it wasnât due to the lack of caffeine in his system.
âOkay well why donât you head into C1 and Iâll have Whitaker come by and present some cases.â he nodded and padded off to the room furthest from the central hub. As soon as his back hit the gurney he felt how much the exhaustion caught up to him. His limbs were heavy and eyes closing more and more with every passing second. The noise of the ED was just static at this point as Shen drifted off to sleep.
When he woke up the night shift was already well on its way. He rushed to the ED mulling over how he was going to explain this to Abbot.
âI-Iâm so sorry I fell asleep.â as he stuttered out an apology he almost looked like a med student again. The strong confident attending was laying dormant inside him just like you were laying dormant in the ICU.
âDonât worry about it just uhm do your rounds and get as much done as you can.â Shen nodded grateful that Abbot was more lenient on him and went off to triage.
When the first rays of the morning sun started rolling in Shen was still doing triage not trusting himself enough to actually work on trauma cases. But nevertheless he still did everything in his power to get through as many patients as possible and take his mind off the fact you were lying unconscious just a mere floor above him. âDr Shen youâre needed upstairs.â Abbot peeked his head in his demeanor seemingly much more relaxed. His ears perked up at that and as he quickly apologized to the patient he bolted upstairs without a second thought.
When he came to the threshold of your room he took a deep breath and upon stepping in saw the most amazing scene. An ICU doctor was carefully pulling the breathing tube out of your throat before handing you a cup of water.
âJohnâŚâyou mumbled, voice still hoarse from the tube. Shen didnât waste another moment and in the blink of an eyes he was sitting on the edge of your bed gently kissing you.
âI was so scared.â He mumbled breaking the quick kiss. âWhen they wheeled you in I swear I-i was about to loose it. I donât think Iâve ever been more terrified in my life. God I donât know what I wouldâve done if you hadnât woken up.â you took a hold of his hand and looked up at him your eyes still a tad bit hazy. âItâs okay, Iâm okay. Besides Iâm too stubborn to die.â you chuckled tiredly. Shen laughed too wiping the tears from his eyes.
âWhen I saw the amount of blood you were losing and what condition you were in I realized how quick and fragile everything is. I-I know where been seeing each other for what only eight months but I know I wanna spend the rest of my life with you. I-Iâm not gonna propose to you while youâre in a hospital bed in the ICU but consider this a promise than I will marry you. As soon as youâre out of here and back to normal Iâm gonna buy you a rock so big patients will be complaining of sudden onset blindness.â Shen poured his heart out as you gently drew patterns in his palm. âIâll take you up on that promise Dr Shen.â
trigger warning: domestic violence, abuse, mentions of poor eating
synopsis: dennis knows he can treat you better and the opportunity arises when he finds out how horrible your current boyfriend is
Growing up in a small town like Broken Bow Nebraska raised Dennis to be quite a gentleman. Holding open doors, carrying bags, the thought of hitting a woman never even crossed his mind.
Working in the Pitt Dennis saw plenty of domestic abuse cases some more severe than others. Every time such a case came through Dennis couldn't comprehend how someone could lay their hands on a loved one, in his eyes there was no excuse.
Aside from the many horrific cases and nightmares the Pitt brought him it also gave him great friends and strong connections. If he hadn't been working at the Pitt he never would've meet his now best friend Trinity and he never would've met you. In his eyes you were an angel. You were what made coming into work everyday a little less miserable. Every time you flashed that sweet smile Dennis felt his knees go weak and heat rise to his face. Trinity never missed the opportunity to tease him about it, no actually Trinity never missed the opportunity to humiliate him about the fact he couldn't control himself at the mere mention of your name.
There was one teeny tiny little problem the fact that Dennis didn't have the balls to ask you out and the fact you were dating one of the paramedics. Mike Geller. Dennis was never a fan of this guy he just didn't understand what you saw in him. He was rude to almost everyone, dismissive towards other staff and incredibly inconsiderable. The difference between you and your boyfriend was night and day and Dennis just couldn't wrap his head around how you could date such an asshole.
Every time you shared a kiss or hug in between patients Dennis could feel his heart rip a little further. Why couldn't he be the one you looked at with such adoration in your eyes.
As far as hospital gossip went Dennis tried to see if he could something bad about the Mike guy just to comfort his broken heart a little but even the dirt on his guy was nothing special. Lash out at a patient, couple of fights, he even heard that Mike treated you well.
"Hey Dennis did you hear?" Perlah asked. "Hear what?" Dennis asked confusion plastered on his face. "Mike plans to propose to her." Dennis stopped dead in his tracks. "Bought the ring and everything or so he told Mateo." Perlah kept talking not even noticing the pained expression on the poor guys face. "Sorry I have patients to check on," Dennis stormed off as quickly as possible.
In an ideal world he'd be able to stay sixty feet away from you but unfortunately Dennis was jinxed from birth. Just as his shitty luck would have it almost every case he ended up on was with you. You with your precise hands, perfectly tied hair, soft smile it drove him nuts. How could you be so infuriatingly perfect.
Things got weird a few weeks later when your smiled dimmed. Nobody else seemed to notice but Dennis did, he always did. Your smile didn't reach your eyes as usual and you were a bit more introverted than usual.
"Hey you okay?" Dennis asked gently putting his hand on your back. You flinched slightly at the contact which Dennis took a mental note off. "Yeah, yeah I'm fine just a little tired." Dennis took notice of the way your lip quivered a clean sign of lying but he didn't wanna press too hard. "Okay well uhm I'm here if you need something." you nodded at his offer before disappearing back into the ED mayhem. His gaze stayed glued to your form before he turned around and went back to charting.
For a little while you seemed okay no noticeable changes as far as Dennis knew. That is until one day you showed up to work with quite a nasty bruised just under your collar. Dennis could tell you were trying to do your best to hide it with your undershirt and concealer. Everyone was so busy with patients and the usual chaos nobody even noticed except Dennis who had his gaze tracking you most of the day anyway.
"Dana can I get some advice?" he asked nervously.
"Sure hon what's up?" Dana tucked her glasses back into the front pocket of her scrubs.
"A friend of mine has an injury that she's trying to hide but I noticed. I'm just wondering whether you think I should ask her or leave it alone." Dennis looked up at Dana with those big sad eyes of his.
"Definitely ask her. Maybe she's in an unsafe situation or something." Dennis nodded mumbling a small thank you and running laps around the Pitt to find you.
After a little while he managed to find you taking a break in the staff lounge.
"Hey you busy?" you shook your head no and he sat down next to you. "I uhm I know this is a weird question but how-how'd you get that bruise uhm under your collarbone?" Dennis stuttered out looking anywhere but your eyes. "It was dumb I got hit by a patient it's no big deal." Dennis saw the way your hands twitched. "O-oh yeah of course. I-I'll see you later I need to check on my uhm yeah." Dennis awkwardly shuffled out of the lounge.
The next few weeks Dennis made sure to pay very close attention to you. Unfortunately while doing so he noticed how bony your hands got, how easily out of breath you were, how little you were eating and how many bruises littered your perfect skin. All of those signs pointed to something much bigger, something Dennis didn't even wanna think about. Everything Dennis took notice off pointed to clear signs of domestic abuse. The way you tried your best to avoid Mike at work was highly unusual and the rest of the hospital staff caught sight of that immediately.
Dennis didn't even know who to talk to about this maybe he was just imagining things but all of that changed when you showed up at his and Trinity's apartment with a duffel bag, mascara streaming down your cheeks and deep bruises around your neck.
"Holy shit what happened?" you looked up at him with tears in your eyes and Dennis swore his heart shattered. "Come here, come inside. Uhh Trinity isn't here right now she uhm she's out with Garcia." Dennis explained. "Who uhm who did this to you? Where's Mike?" when more tears brimmed your eyes Dennis got his answer. "He hit you?" he tried to keep his voice level to cover up the rage bubbling in his chest. "H-he's been uhm doing that for some months but I uhm I didn't know how to tell anyone. I-I'm sorry for crashing your night." you rambled chocking back sobs.
Dennis hugged you gently as if shielding you from the outside world.
"I think we should maybe head to the Pitt have someone check you out?" Dennis asked softly. "Y-yeah okay." He gently led you out to the car and drove you down to PTMC.
"What're you two doing here? Thought the day shift didn't usually stay up this long." Shen teased drinking his usual humorously large cup of iced coffee. There could be an apocalypse outside and Josh Shen would still have his coffee. All teasing ceased the moment he spotted both of your expressions. The way you clung to Dennis, the mascara stuck under your eyes and worst of all the dark hand shaped bruises on your neck. "Okay uhm Lena what's open" Shen asked as Lena quickly redirected you to C4.
"Shen just promise me please promise me Abbot isn't gonna find out I'm here." Shen nodded closing the door and pulling back the curtain. "Tell me what happened?" Shen asked softly, gently touching and checking your neck. "Mike happened." you murmured. "Mike chocked you?" the atmosphere in the room shifted almost instantly fury streaming off of him.
Dennis took a deep breath to calm himself but neither man expected you to lift your shirt and reveal purple and blue bruises across your ribs and lower back. "That's it m' gonna fucking kill him." Shen seethed and Dennis could barely keep himself composed. "Don't worry we're not gonna let him touch you again. And I know you don't want to get Abbot involved but we gotta check you out there are they're bad. I'll order a CBC and CT." the usually nonchalant Dr. Shen looked pissed as he left the room. "I-I'm sorry for creating such a huge fuss." you whispered.
Without a second thought Dennis gently hugged you being mindful of your bruises. It felt weird being on this side of things. Being the one in a hospital gown getting wheeled off for tests instead of being the one strutting around the ED with patient files and a stethoscope.
After a little while you got wheeled for testing and thankfully all your results came back normal meaning there was no internal bleeding.
"Kid I heard everything Shen filled me in." Abbot stormed in. "I'm gonna fucking kill him." he mumbled hugging you tightly.
When you first got started in the Pitt you picked up the night shift and over time Dr. Abbot became your mentor and dear friend. You knew you could rely on him for anything but you were embarrassed to let your mentor see you in this state.
"I-I'm sorry. I didn't want Shen to get you involved." you murmured into his shoulder. "Don't worry after I'm fucking done with him he's not gonna be walking straight. I'll let Robby know you two won't be coming to work tomorrow." Abbot said you could feel the tension in his shoulders.
Two days later when you returned to work the bruises were still there tucked safely under your clothes. Everyone shot you sympathetic looks with Dana and Dennis checking up on you multiple times a day. Every person present in the hospital knew what happened to you, You didn't like the fact your business was out in the open but Dennis was glad everyone knew what an asshole this guy was.
When he sauntered into the ED like the idiot he is Jesse and Robby immediately took action. "Nope can't be back here." Jesse blocked his way. "What the fuck do you mean I'm an EMT I have every right to be here." he cussed. "Oh haven't you heard you can't be an EMT with an active domestic violence lawsuit against you and last I heard your amazing doctor of a girlfriend is suing you. Oh yeah sorry ex-girlfriend." Dennis said smugly walking past the scene. Mike seethed with anger ready to clock the next person that opened their mouth but with one last threatening look from Robby sent him storming out of the ED and ambulance bay.
You stayed with Abbot for a little while thankful that he let you crash in his guest room.
Of course since you couldn't stay with him forever you quickly found a nice studio apartment near the hospital and like a good friend Dennis helped you in.
About a week after moving in you and Dennis were exhausted after an insanely exhausting shift and since your apartment was closer than his and Trinity's you of course let him crash at your place. One night turned in to three and soon enough Dennis was spending more time at your place than his.
A simple friendship and a helping hand turned into a blossoming relationship when Dennis confessed.
"We I uhm I-I need to tell you something." Dennis said one morning before your shift.
"Sure Denny what's up?" god that nickname sent sparks flying through him like a live wire. After the whole ordeal with your ex and months of therapy you got your spark back. It was just like the old you. Your compassion for patients and kindness you expressed shined brightly in the ED chaos.
"I-I know you might not be ready for a relationship yet considering every but I've gotta get this off my chest otherwise I'll go insane." Dennis mumbled. You nodded listening attentively.
"Ever since you walked into this ED I've had a massive crush on you. Mike didn't deserve anything you gave him. You're kind and sweet and funny and lovely to talk to everyone loves you, patients feel safe around you Mike didn't have any of that. He was a rude and obnoxious asshole with absolutely zero regard for others. You deserve someone who makes you laugh and treats you well with kindness, dignity and respect. I-I want to be that someone. I want to be someone who you can rely on in your darkest hours and feel safe around. W-when and if you're ever ready I'd love to take you out to dinner." Dennis rambled on and on nervously fidgeting with his chain barely able to meet your gaze. Your heart swelled, you've never had someone pay so much attention to you or even talk about you the way he did. "I'd love to take you up on that offer." you smiled gently hugging him.
This hug felt different than before because this time he wasn't staring at your bruised neck he was gazing into your loving eyes looking up at him with adoration. Before you knew it the distance between you got a hell of a lot smaller and in instant your lips were on his. The kiss was sweet and full of love as his warm hands gently wrapped around your waist.
"Okay lovebirds get a room and move it tons of patients and traumas to get through." Dana broke up your moment with a smile on her face.
You and Dennis broke out into laughter and went your separate ways merging back into the ED mayhem.
warnings: none just pure fluff, some medical mumbo jumbo may be incorrect
synopsis: a stupid rumor and a sister with a UTI lead to your crush finally asking you out
Long before Pittsburg and med school and everything in between you and Dennis were childhood best friends. Living in a town with a population of 400 people means everyone knows everyone. So it was no wonder you and Dennis became such great friends at such a young age.
You always used to patch him up after a scuff with his brothers or a nasty argument with dad. In his words you were one of the only person Dennis could trust. Your parents loved him and you cherished him as a friend.
You were actually the first person Dennis had the guts to come out to and also the first person to accept him. To his surprise in the same breath you said you still loved him you also revealed you were gay yourself. So yes he was eternally grateful for your friendship.
But all of that changed when your parents decided to move to Pittsburg and enroll you in some fancy private school so you could have a better shot at college. That day you cried buckets of tears and Dennis did to. You just couldnât accept the reality where youâd be more than five minutes away from your best friend. But as your parents hailed you to the car you promise with all your might that youâd still keep in touch.
So when Dennis started going to med school in Pittsburg you were the first person he called. And as luck would have it you happened to go to the same school and later even matched into the same residency program. It was perfect. You and your best friend lived together in the big city studying to become doctors. Between the sleepless nights, stale coffee and endless exams you were now closer than ever.
Now something that you and Dennis didnât know before starting your first shift in the ED was that gossips spread like wildfire. Among all that trauma and death the staff had to keep themselves entertained somehow so little gossips would start here and there, usually nothing major. But when some of the nurses noticed how soft Dennis was around you and how he sometimes lingered or gently touched your arm oh boy that one was a hit with the staff. Within a week Ahmad had collected secret bets on whether or not you and Dennis were dating, married or just really good friends. Unbeknownst to them you developed a certain liking to the very talented and smart Melisa King.
Something about the way she moved through the ED with such controlled ease and managed to deal with whatever came her way inspired you. Not to mention the woman was drop dead gorgeous. Every time you worked a case with her you couldnât help but admire her skills and how well she kept composure under pressure. Everything about her was just so captivating.
âHey Mel you havenât placed your bet on whether Huckleberry is dating blondie over there.â Santos smiled interrupting Melâs meticulous charting. Mel just shrugged it off after all she was too busy with being a doctor and taking care of her sister to pay attention to silly ED rumors. âI think theyâre just good friendsâ she said quickly before going to check on her patients. Even though she didnât pay much attention to how you interacted with Whitaker she did notice how her heart would beat just a little bit faster every time you were around. How her gaze would somehow always find you in the crowded ER and how calm she felt whenever you were around. But Mel had too much on her plate to even think about a relationship she needed to take care of her sister first and everything else later.
Thatâs not to say that she didnât imagine you two maybe hanging out or watching a movie. In the late night after a difficult shift she would fantasize how it would feel to have you give her a hug and comfort her. Unbeknownst to poor Mel you felt the same way.
âSheâs so gorgeous I just wanna grab her and take her out to I dunno a farmers market.â You groaned burying your reddened face in the couch pillows. âYouâre ridiculous why donât you just ask her out.â Dennis suggested not even looking up from his book. âDonât be insane I donât even know if she swings that way.â you huffed. âWell youâll never find out if you donât ask.â
âZip it.â You hissed and went back to crashing out over your not so little crush.
The next morning when Dennis and you clocked in to work the first thing you did was go to the central hub to look for Dana. âHey Dana do you know if Mel is maybe dating anyone?â You asked thankfully the usual ED noise perfectly masked your conversation. âNo I donât think sheâs dating anyone hun. Why you got a cute friend you wanna set her up with?â Dana asked and scratched your neck âYeah something like that.â
Later around two pm whatever deity you prayed on worked its miracle because you and Mel got stuck working in triage. Usually youâd be getting a headache by now and complaining to Mateo how much you hate triage but everything seemed a little less miserable with her around. "Alright uhh let's start with this one." you said handing her a patient chart. "Yeah perfect let's do it." when she smiled so brightly you could swear your knees buckled.
It was insane how much power this girl had over you.
Mel stood over your shoulder as you stitched up a laceration on a patients arm. Her eyes were glued to your soft hands and delicate fingers. How would those fingers feel in her hand or carding through her hair. Jesus this was ridiculous how much she couldn't tear her gaze from your form.
While you and Melisa tirelessly worked triage a patient was wheeled in. "Female late twenties early thirties presented with abdominal pain slightly lower BP, tachycardic." Langdon recognized the girl as Mel's sister Becca and personally took over her care. "Keep Mel from finding this out as long as possible don't let her come to T1." Langdon told Dana before following the paramedics into T1.
"Hey look Mels sister is in T1 presenting with stomach pain, BP slightly elevated and tachycardic I need you to keep Mel in triage for as long as possible don't even let her near T1. Got it?" Robby ordered. "Yeah, yeah of course I got it can you keep me posted?" Robby nodded before you returned back to triage with Mel.
Hours later Langdon peeked his head in and pulled Mel out for a consult as you took down your patients history. By the way Mels demeanor changed when she came back you figured that Langdon must've told her about Becca.
When you finally got a moment to breathe Mel immediately stormed out to the ambulance bay and you sprinted after her. "Mel!" you called out when you saw her gripping the wall. "My sister has a boyfriend and got a UTI from having sex with her boyfriend. I've been stuck at this hospital almost every day for twelve hours and anything outside of that I spent taking care of my sister and after all of that after structuring my whole life around her she didn't even bother to tell me about this!" Mel rambled her voice shaky and her chest heaving. "Oh Mel I'm so sorry." you sighed gently rubbing her back. "I-I just. I just now realized how little of a personal life I have that my sister that's in a group home most of the time has a boyfriend before I've had any type of romantic interaction." Mel chuckled bitterly tears filling her bright eyes. Without thinking any further you wrapped your arms around her running your fingers through her hair and rubbing her back. After a little while her chest stopped heaving and tears no longer ran down her cheeks.
"We should get back inside your sister probably needs you and we're still overflowing in triage." Mel nodded and followed you back inside the ED.
"Do you think her and Dennis are dating?" Mel asked Langdon subtly hinting at you. "That's a first didn't think you cared much about rumors. So what's with the sudden interest?" he asked curiously. "I-I just if my sister can have a life and a boyfriend then I should too. I want to ask her out." Mel finally admitted her voice laced with pure nerves and anxiety. "Oh ho ho okay Doctor King. Well I'm not sure whether Huckleberry and her are dating but maybe you should just ask I mean it's hell of a lot better than guessing." Langdon advised. "Yeah thanks Langdon." Mel gathered her nerves and went to find Dennis in the ED mayhem.
"Dennis are you dating?" Mel blurted out. "Sorry what? Dating?" heat rose to his cheeks a shocked expression in his eyes. "Everyone sees the way you look at her so are you dating?" Mel asked doing her best not to pass out from the anxiety gnawing at her throat. "W-what? We're not dating. I-I'm gay and so she is as a matter of fact. Wait does everyone in the ED think we're dating?!" Mel didn't even take time to answer his question. She bolted out of the room and went to find you as quickly as possible.
"Doyouwannagooutwithmeafterourshift?" Mel blurted out. "Sorry can you repeat that?" you heard her quite well the first time but thought that your ears were just playing tricks on you. "Sorry uhm I asked if you maybe wanted to go out with me after our shift for drinks, like a date." Mel said more calmly but still rocking back and forth on her heels. You smiled placing a quick peck on her lips which left poor Mel completely red and stunned. "Sure I'd love that." you giggled going over to check on your patients flashing Mel one last look and disapearing back into chaos.
a/n I know this is like the third fic Iâm releasing about this show but in all honesty itâs too good not to
content warning: nothing major some nsfw but nothing too explicit, talks of blood and medical mumbo jumbo not completely accurate
synopsis: after an extremely stressful week working long, hard hours stuck in that hellhole you call your work place you and your sweet boyfriend are due for some much needed downtime unfortunately the hospital never sleeps
4 pm
"Hello Mrs. Jackson I'll be the doctor treating you today and I hear you've been experiencing shortness of breath and chest pain mind if I take a look?" you forced a polite smile on your face grabbing your stethoscope. After five hours of sleep followed by grueling seven hours on your feet running around the overflowing Pitt you were hoping and praying that clock would just tick faster.
"I'm hearing some stridor on your left side. I'm gonna order a chest CT and x-ray along with some additional tests like blood cultures and CBC just to rule out any bacterial infections. A nurse will come shortly to draw your blood and I'll be back with those results." you pulled the curtain back before making your way back to the central hub for more overdue charting.
"Doc we need ya." Robby ran by you as the EMTs rolled in another patient. "Male mid thirties electrocuted at a construction site by grabbing a live wire. Tachycardic at 124 BPM, intubated in field SATS holding steady at ninety seven. Major burns to the majority of the body." The paramedic recited as Dana redirected you to T1. "Transfer on my count one, two three." everyone moved at your command quickly moving the patient from the stretcher to the hospital bed.
"Alright Joy initial assessment, Mel grab the eFAST." Robby barked orders like usual as everyone moved with surgical precision. Jesse cut off what's left off the poor guys clothes peeling them from the raw skin.
"Pupils equal and reactive. Possible lung and fascia damage." Joy recited.
"There's free fluid in his belly, and his lung are filling with blood." Mel shouted out.
"Okay call Garcia tell her to prep the OR." Robby barked again.
"I'm putting in a chest tube. Perlah grab me a seven blade and thoracostomy tube." as soon as you said those words the tools spawned in your hand thanks to the speed of your excellent nurse. With years of experience the chest tube was in the chest cavity in less than a minute. âOkay connect to CDS and get him to the OR.â you said and once again everyone followed your orders wheeling the victim out of T1 only leaving behind you, Robbie and whole bunch of blood and discarded medical equipment. âGod I really wanna go home.â You groaned slipping the bloody gloves off. âWell hate to break it to you but we still have four hours till the end of our shift.â another sigh slipped past your lips as you made your way back to the central hub to try and catch up on all the charting.
5 pm
It was like the universe just had it out for you today when a multi car highway pile up started rolling in only adding to the ED mayhem. âJesus fucking Christ over here T2!â Dana cursed running around trying to keep everything from collapsing. âI got it Dana!â you hollered as you and Whitaker ran in to T2 after the paramedics.
âOkay pupils blown and non reactive check for a brain bleed.â you said as Mel quickly got around to doing a non contrast CT. âMassive intercranial hemorrhage.â Mel shouted. âOkay someone call Garcia or Hamsi or anyone competent from upstairs prep an OR Iâll intubate and send him on his way.â Dennis shoved a breathing tube down the patients throat before he was taken to the OR upstairs.
âHoly shit how much more of this?â he cursed. âI dunno Denny I just wanna get home.â you sighed as he patted your back. âCome on we gotta get back out to helping Robby.â Dennis gently grabbed your wrist and pulled you back out to the floor.
7pm
After a brutal two hours of a never ending stream of patients the chaos finally started to subside and you could finally catch up on all the charting.
âYou okay hon?â Dana gently stroked your hair. âFucking exhausted canât wait to get out of this place and have a relaxing weekend with my boyfriend.â Dana chuckled. âHe planning something special for ya?â she asked again while glancing up at the giant board. âKnowing Dennis yeah probably gotta wait to find out what it is though.â she flashed you another soft smile before leaving to tend to her duties.
8pm
You waited outside back resting against the cold wall as you waited for Dennis to finish packing up. The cold air felt nice and soothing after a whole day stuck inside. âReady to go?â he asked walking through the sliding doors. âYes please god I canât wait to get home.â he laced his hand with yours and led you down the familiar Pittsburg down to your apartment.
When you finally walked in you immediately took your shoes off leaving your bag by the door. âIâm gonna take a shower got too much blood on me today.â you murmured softly padding towards the bathroom. âYeah Iâll get started on dinner. Pasta sound good?â you sent a thumbs up and retreated into the bathroom.
The warm water felt incredibly nice running over your sore muscles and achy feet. Finally you had a chance to breathe and get all the dirt and grime off your body.
You washed your hair and body with vanilla scented soap before putting on one of Denisâ shirt and a comfy pair of sweats. As soon as you stepped out the warm aroma of dinner splashed you in the face.
9pm
âMhm smells incredible.â You smiled wrapping your arms around his torso. âSo do you angel.â he smiled keeping his attention fixed on dinner. âIs it gonna be ready soon?â he nodded firmly while stirring the pan.
Dennis soon took the pan off the stove as you got started on the dishes he dirtied. As soon as his hands were free they immediately wrapped around your midriff large hands sliding under your shirt. He pressed gentle feather light kisses along your neck. âCheeky.â you giggled as his hands explored under your shirt tugging on the band of your bra. âYou sure you have enough energy for that Dr Whitaker.â you cooed softly. âOh you bet I do.â Dennis used his farm boy strength to pick you up and carry you to the bedroom before placing you down on the soft mattress.
Giggles erupted from your chest as your hands tangled in the brunettes curls. âYouâre so gorgeous angel.â Dennis whispered breathlessly before helping you slip your shirt off. His eyes trailed over your figure before helping started leaving a line of kisses down your neck and chest. âGive me a real kiss.â you mumbled softly. Waisting no time he connected his lips with your tongue gently slipping in. You smiled into the kiss as he expertly pulled your sweats down. âNo fair Iâm half naked and youâre fully dressed.â Dennis chuckled slipping his top off and revealing those concealed muscles and soft belly you loved so much. Dennis Whitaker didnât go to the gym often but goddamn those years working on the farm really paid off. You admired your boyfriend with nothing but pure adoration in your eyes as he sucked a small hickey right above your sternum. Knowing anatomy really paid off because Dennis knew perfectly where to touch to tick you off.
He climbed further on top of your large hands spreading your thighs apart. Soft kissed and ghosted breaths over your stomach made you giggle and sigh with excitement.
âGreen is go, red is stop okay angel?â even though youâd done this a hundred times before Dennis always made sure you were comfortable before doing anything with you that was just the kind of gentleman he was.
âYouâre so pretty I love you so much.â he mumbled head dipping between your legs as your thigh rested on his shoulder. He looked up waiting for your approval and as soon as he got the go signal he slid your panties off tossing them to the floor. With a shit eating grin on his face he kept teasing you layering barely there kissed on your inner thigh but never actually giving you what you wanted.
âDenny please.â you cooed softly back arching off the bed. Dennis chuckled but all fun was interrupted when your phone rang. Without a second thought Dennis turned it off but it rang again. âFucking hell.â You cursed propping yourself up and answering the phone. âWe need you and Whitaker back at the hospital.â Dana sounded over the phone. âDana we just got home what the hell happened?â Dennis groaned already pulling his undershirt and scrubs back on. âBridge collapse Westbridge is down and weâre the second closest hospital so all ambulances are being rerouted to us.â Dana explained. In the background you could hear the ever running chaos of beeping machines, yelling and sirens. âWeâll be there in twenty.â you hung up the phone before pulling your clothes and scrubs back on.
âRemind me why we chose EM?â Dennis huffed and puffed grabbing his stethoscope and other stuff. âBecause weâre fucking insane. On the bright side we managed to have a full thirty uninterrupted minutes at home.â Dennis laughed sarcastically as both of you ran out of the apartment.
10pm
The ED was more packed than usual. All of the scenes of full hallways, staff running around and patients screaming bloody murder reminded you a lot of the Pittfest disaster but no time to dwell on the past. âSorry for interrupting your night kiddo.â Dana said sympathetically to Dennis.
âItâs fine not like we were doing anything in particular.â He grumbled under his breath. âMhm certainly not. Now how did your little girlfriend get that cute hickey on her neck?â Santos decided to butt in.
Heat rose to his cheeks as Dennis shot the two a glare and went back to dealing with patients.
1 am
By the time everything was taken care of and you and Dennis finally made it home the last thing either of you could think about was sex. Hell there wasnât enough strength in your bodies to take a shower let alone have any type of intimacy. That would have to wait for another time.

synopsis: all he wanted to do was help relief your pain but carelessness leads to him hurting more than you
Your shift started out as any other day. Clocking in at seven am sharp you went through rounds and patients with the night shift before relieving them of their duties. But for once today seemed like a really good day. The waiting room wasnât overflowing like usual and the patients were being nice and compliant with not many difficult cases.
âIs today Christmas cause it sure feels like it.â You said to Dana with a giggle. âShh donât jinx it now we might actually get to have a normal lunch for the first time in months.â Dana laughed filling some patient form on the computer at the central hub. âAm I the only one who sees how weird this is? I mean I havenât been pissed or thrown up on the whole shift. Thatâs the first time this happened since I started working here.â Dennis mentioned eliciting a sarcastic chuckled from santos. âDonât worry Huckleberry thereâs still ten more hours into your shift plenty of time for someone to piss on you.â She teased before going to check on her patients.
Today was one of those rare days where even Robby didnât seem too anxious or on edge which was by all means considered insane.
You quickly went through some of the patients in the waiting room before helping Langdon your dear friend with a car vs ped case brought by ambulance.
âGet me an intubation tray sheâs not protecting her airway and itâs filling up with blood.â You ordered moving to the head of the bed. Perlah quickly handed you the kit before Langdon pushed in the meds. At this point you didnât even need to tell him what was needed itâs almost like he could read your mind. With great expertise you managed to get the tube past the vocal cord despite the poor visual from the amount of blood. âAlright Iâm in bag her and letâs get her up to the OR.â Nurses and med students followed your lead wheeling the victim upstairs to the available OR.
âGood work in there doctor.â Langdon smiled tossing his now crimson gloves into the trash. âNot so shabby yourself doctor Langdon. I really missed working with you.â It was so easy talking to him. Your brain didnât even need to think of what to say because it came so natural to you.
When you first found out about Langdon stealing meds from the hospital and going through addiction your heart broke. How could you not notice your friend and coworker was struggling this much you were a doctor for gods sake. And in the eight months he spent at rehab getting the help he needed you couldnât help but miss his sarcasm and bad jokes every time you clocked in at work. You also missed having someone so skilled who could understand you so easily.
But now itâs been exactly two months since Langdon returned to work and you couldnât be happier getting to see him every day.
âAlright looks like all the other patients are not urgent or anything so Iâm sure Mel and McKay can handle the waiting room for a little while. Wanna grab lunch in the lounge?â You asked him while looking at the giant board in the central hub. âSure why not. Itâs a miracle we get to have lunch so why not use the opportunity.â You smiled at his remark before getting settled in the staff lounge.
You talked and joked and laughed while drinking stale coffee and eating sandwiches from the cafeteria. The lunch was far from good but that didnât matter because you shared it with him.
âAlright well Iâm heading back out to help McKay and Mel.â You said after a little while. âYeah I think Iâll take five more in here, holler if you need me.â He stated leaning further back in the plastic chair.
Pulling a pair of standard blue gloves on you headed into the waiting room. âAlright Mr. Miller a doctor is available to see you, head on back.â Lupe said through her microphone as you greeted the patient at the entrance of the ED.
âAlright Mr. Miller my name is Dr Queen and I see here youâve been having some stomach pains would you mind telling me when that started.â you said politely looking at the patient files on your tablet.
âA week ago.â he answered briskly. âOkay and how bad would you rate your pain right now on a scale of one to ten with ten being the worst.â you asked. âI dunno like a five. Whatâs up with all these bullshit questions shouldnât you be ordering some tests or giving me drugs for the pain.â he raised his voice. âI will sir as soon as I can get a history down. Now can you tell me if youâve experienced any vomiting, nausea, diarrhea or trouble urinating?â you typed something into your iPad. âNo, no, no and no. Are you sure thereâs no other doctor available like one who actually knows what theyâre doing?â you tried to ignore that last part as you kept typing the information into the patient file. âIâm sorry sir but all of our other doctors are hard at work with their own patients. Can you tell me if youâve had a change to your diet or perhaps your environment and if youâre allergic to any medication?â you asked again keeping you voice level, polite and professional. His shoulder tensed and his knuckles turned white from how hard his fists were clenched. After a moment or so of him keeping quiet you tried again. âIâm sorry sir but I wonât know what tests to order or how to treat you unless you answer my questions.â
You could sense a shift in the atmosphere as soon as the words left your mouth. And before you knew it, it was too late. He lunged at you easily overpowering you due to his size. The back of your skull hit the cold hard tiles as his hand kept firm pressure around your neck. One of his knees connected with your chest and you felt the sickening crunch of your ribs. The pressure on your neck was increasing with each passing second making it hard to scream or even breathe. Black spots slowly started clouding your vision and any attempt to escape proved futile. Thankfully Dana saw the commotion and instantly sprung into action.
âHola hoop in central ten!â Dana yelled grabbing a syringe off the med cart. Langdon looked up from the head lac he was fixing up and as soon as he saw you through the glass struggling on the floor and probably scared out of your mind he acted on pure instinct.
Dana was faster than security jabbing the syringe of versed into the assholes neck making him easily slide off of you under the drugs influence. Finally air filled your lungs but it hurt to breathe so you still laid there struggling. When Langdon rushed in security was already hauling the guy off to psych, nurses were calling the police from the central line and Dana was assessing your condition. Black and blue bruises adorned your neck and the fear in your eyes was out of this world. Langdon felt his heart in his throat as he lifted you onto a gurney.
Dennis quickly put in an IV but as soon as he was about to administer some pain killers an animalistic scream erupted from your chest. âNo no please no drugs!â everyone in the room looked confused. âDonât be stubborn youâre in pain let us help you.â Langdon pleaded. âNo I said no drugs!â You yelled again tears welling in your eyes. Every breath every syllable spoken sent new waves of pain crashing through your chest and torso. âAlright you heard her. Order a head CT, chest X-ray hang a liter of IV fluids and get an ice pack for that neck.â Langdon ordered.
âWhat do you mean sheâs refusing painkillers?â Robby asked as Dana and Langdon filled him in. âIâm serious Whitaker was just about to give her morphine where she practically started screaming her head off about not wanting any drugs.â Langdon explained further. âBut look at her sheâs writhing in pain isnât there anything we can do. I mean if her rib isnât stable she could puncture her lung.â Dana said her voice heavy with worry. âSheâs not mentally altered or under the influence of any narcotics so unless she accepts treatment thereâs nothing we can do.â Robby sighed before heading back into your room with the test results.
âYour head CT shows no sign of inter cranial bleeding so thatâs good. But your X-ray shows that you have three cracked ribs on your right side. Weâll keep you here for observation and someone from ortho will come down and bandage you properly. Now Iâd really recommend you let us administer some pain meds.â Robby explained not that there was any need for that. As his explanation dragged on your body twitched in pain, hands tightly gripping the pristine white sheets as you fought back tears. âI said no drugs.â You barely managed to get out through clenched teeth. âYouâre in pain why wonât you let us help you?â He insisted. âI said no!â You yelled before he gave up and left your room. âShe must have a damn good reason if sheâs in this much pain and refusing medication.â Robby mumbled dropping the iPad off at the central hub and going to the staff lounge.
âAlright come on why arenât you letting us help you?â Langdon asked calmly sitting on the small stool next to your bed. âItâs none of your damn businessâ you hissed. âItâs very much my business seeing as Iâm your doctor and friend. Come on tell me.â Langdon insisted. You shook your head jaw clenched as another wave of pain crashed over you. âYouâre a doctor for fucks sake you know what pain does to people why are you being so fucking stubborn.â Langdon was getting increasingly irritated like your pain somehow hurt him too. Tears welled up in your eyes and you knew you could no longer avoid this conversation.
âMy parents were drug addicts and whenever something bad happened theyâd drown their sorrow in cheap pills and shots. And because genetics are a bitch I developed the same habit. Marijuana, oxycodone, benzos, Xanax whatever I tried it all. I fell deep into my addiction in high school and when my friend lost her life I tried to take mine too by swallowing a bunch of pills.â You couldnât meet his gaze but you felt his heart break into a million pieces. âItâs just terrifying. Even imagining myself swallowing a stupid fucking pill or having opiates injected into my veins makes me sick to my stomach. Itâs like Iâm right back there in that cursed house laying on the bathroom floor praying to whatever god out there that heâd take mercy on me. Hoping that death would take me quickly and put an end to my suffering. imagining that maybe after I died my parents would actually get the help they needed.â You cried your chest hurting with each shallow breath. âBut youâre not back there and youâll never be back there. You overcame all the odds and you built a life for yourself. A life far different than that. Youâre a doctor now you know what happens if pain this severe ends up untreated for too long youâve seen it yourself. This is a controlled environment no one here will let you spiral back into that headspace again. No one in this whole ED would ever let you get addicted or try to hurt yourself. So please let us help you. Even if anything happened weâd notice, everyone here is more than capable of understanding and noticing withdrawal symptoms and drug abuse. Please you need to let us give you something for the pain.â Langdon pleaded taking your hand in his. His piercing blue eyes held a certain softness in them like he couldnât bear to see you in pain anymore. âYeah like everyone noticed your drug abuse and withdrawals.â As soon as those cruel words left your mouth you knew you fucked up. His eyes widened in shock, jaw tense while guilt bubbled up deep behind your broken ribs. âNo Langdon-â you couldnât take back what you said. âWhatever throw a pulmonary embolism for all I care.â He mumbled before storming out of your room. And with that you managed to hurt the person that mattered the most of you.
Langdon stormed into an empty bathroom his chest heaving. He gripped the brown locs on his head tightly trying to calm himself down. After all the time you two spent working together, joking, laughing and even hanging out after work you still thought of him than nothing more than a junkie. You were there for him during his divorce with Abbey so hearing such venom spew from your mouth sent him through turbulence. Your words hurt more than any physical beating or bad shift could, not even Robby manage to hurt him this bad and he said much nastier shit.
Five minutes later you made up your mind.
âG-give me the meds.â you said to Dana holding back tears. She quickly administered the medication pushing it directly into your IV. Relief almost immediately replaced the sharp pain from before.
After putting the meds back into the cart Dana sat next to your bed in the same spot Langdon was not even ten minutes ago. âHoney Langdon looked pretty hurt when he walked out of your room what happened?â She asked softly in her heavy accent gently holding your hand. âI-I fucked up Dana I hurt him.â You could no longer hold back the tears in your eyes. âI opened up to him and he tried to help me and instead of letting him I-I made a shitty remark about his drug abuse.â Dana offered a sympathetic gaze and a shoulder to cry on as you kept rambling.
Hours later you were still lying still in the hospital bed looking at the bright white ceiling. Your mind kept circling back to the conversation with Langdon like a cruel joke or a bad movie you couldnât turn off. The fact that you hurt the one person you care most about hurt more than any broken ribs ever could. Your friends from the ED came to check on you often providing some comfort and support but none of that really mattered. Because every time the door opened with a hiss you were hoping and praying Langdon would walk in with a snide remark or shitty joke. But unfortunately you made sure that wouldnât happen.
After what felt like an eternity you decided enough was enough. Despite the bruises on your body and your broken ribs screaming at you to go back to bed your stubborn mind told a different story. With white knuckles you tightly grabbed the IV pole and made a lap around the Pitt looking for Langdon.
âWhatâre you doing out of bed you have three broken ribs?â Mel ran to your side. âI-I need to talk to Langdon do you know where he is Mel?â She sighed supporting your arm. âYeah heâs in south sixteen Iâll take you there.â Mel quickly helped you to get to south sixteen before having to go back to monitoring her patients.
âLangdon.â you called out. He turned around so quickly he almost gave himself whiplash. âWhat the hell are you doing out of bed?â He snapped. âPlease, please I need to talk to you.â you begged. âFine but youâre going back to bed first.â Langdon snagged a wheelchair and led you back to your room.
As you slowly stood up from the wheelchair you whipped around and despite your crying ribs threw your arms around him. âIâm so so sorry I canât even tell you how sorry I am. I never shouldâve said that. I was in pain and scared but thatâs no excuse. I care about you so much and you mean the world to me and the last thing I ever wanted to do was hurt you. Please donât hate me.â Langdon stood frozen for solid five seconds before hesitantly wrapping his arms around you being careful not to agitate your injuries. âIt did hurt. And what you said was out of line. But I could never bring myself to hate you. You mean more to me than anything ever did. One stupid thoughtless remark wonât change that. When I saw you lying on the floor with that pig on top of you I was terrified. Terrified that Iâd loose the one thing that makes coming into work worth it. Youâre the reason I always try so hard and youâre the only person to make this job a little less depressing. I donât think Iâd have the strength to wake up everyday if not for the thought of seeing and talking to you. Your comment was shit but I can forgive you if you let me take you out for drinks.â Tears welled in your eyes as you processed the sheer weight of his words and mulled over the drinks proposal. âThank you Langdon. Thank you for forgiving me and for always being there for me. I donât think anyone has ever made me excited about coming into work apart from you. You really do mean too much to me even though I donât say it as often as I should.â You smiled looking up into his piercing blue eyes.
Instead of the hurt they displayed earlier they were full of love and affection. How lucky were you that someone looked at you so softly. Without another thought you leaned in and gently kissed him. Long forgotten was the pain in your ribs and the only thing that mattered right now was the feel of his lips on yours. After a few beats he slowly pulled away from your soft lips. âJesus Christ Iâve waited so long for that.â he breathed out which prompted a small laugh from you immediately followed by a pained hiss. âAlright letâs get you back into bed. We can do that later when youâre no longer in pain genius.â Langdon smiled placing a quick peck on your lips before returning to work.
Now as you stared up at the bright ceiling lights you didnât see the image of his hurt expression you only saw the idea of what this new relationship would blossom into.
a/n so i've been absolutely obsessed with the pitt lately so the only right thing for me to do was to write for the hottest asshole on the show that is dr frank langdon
trigger warning: guess there isn't anything special maybe cheating?
pairing: frank langdon x reader
synopsis: a tough break up and a night out at the bar is the perfect occasion to explore your growing feelings with your fellow resident
also there will be a part two :)
The ED staff usually either doesnât have enough time or energy for any kind of drinks or after work fun. But tonight was a very rare occasion where drinks were a much needed distraction especially to you.
Over the past couple of months your long term boyfriend started acting different than usual. On most nights when you came home from your long shift your loving boyfriend would have dinner and a warm bath already waiting before a night of sweet movies and cuddling. After every endearing moment and soft spoken word you could see another image of the future youâve always dreamed off. You could already see yourself standing in front of the man you love in a white dress. But now you werenât so sure he saw the same future with you. The weird behaviour, hiding his phone and texts lying. Your mind instantly spiralled to the worst possible scenario, cheating. You planned to confront him in the evening but first a gruelling 12 hour shift waited for you.
You greeted the nurses first before dropping off your bag and stuff and heading out into the ED mayhem.
One patient after another one injury after another but you dealt with them expertly. But as if the universe just wasnât on your side today the patients you had today were more difficult than usual. A pissed off mother of a teen with chlamydia, an angry drunk, screaming geriatric nuts one after another just made your headache skyrocket. By the time three pm rolled around you were riled up and irritated and the thought that you had to have that insanely uncomfortable talk with your boyfriend later only added to your bad mood.
Seven pm couldnât come soon enough and as the night shift started rolling in you grabbed your stuff and practically ran out of the cursed department.
What you werenât prepared for though was the scene you found in your apartment. The apartment youâve been sharing with your boyfriend for almost two years now.
Inside on the couch you spent nights cuddling on and watching cheesy movies was your loving boyfriend kissing another girl. A younger much better looking girl. She didnât have eyebags like yours or a bad back from hours running up and down the Pitt.
âWhat the fuck!?â you yelled. The two immediately broke apart both looking embarrassed.
âAre you fucking insane!?â even though you were tired as hell you had just enough energy to throw the two out.
âB-babe please I can explain please-â he scrambled off the couch pulling his shirt back on but it was too late the damage was already done. Your heart was already broken into a thousand pieces. The boy you trusted with your very soul just managed to throw that trust out the window like yesterdayâs trash.
âGrab your shit and go to hell-â you hissed as they both practically bolted out of the apartment.
That night instead of eating a delicious meal and cuddling with your boyfriend you spent it crying on the couch and drinking. You knew it was a bad idea seeing as you had work tomorrow but right now the only thing to help drown your sorrow was cheap vodka and poorly cooked noodles.
The next morning as expected you woke up with puffy eyes and a splitting headache. You begrudgingly pulled your scrubs on before wiping off the remnants of smudged mascara that was running down your cheeks the night prior. You tried to cover up your dark circles the best to your abilities but at this point nothing could work.
When you barged into the ED everyone could feel the shift in your mood. Your shoulders were tense and you were way more irritable than usual. The light from your eyes was dimmed and they were red rimmed from crying.
After a particularly nasty case of a teenage overdose your hands were shaking and your chest was heaving, of course Dana was the first to notice. You ran into an empty bathroom and she followed suit.
With shaky hands you gripped the sink trying to calm down your pounding heart. When you looked at the mirror above the sink you couldn't recognized the person staring back. Hair messy and tangled, eyes dark and sunken still puffy from crying. Long gone was the promise ring your love gave you.
"Honey what's wrong?" her gentle hands rested on your tense shoulders.
"He cheated on me. I-I walked in on him and that bitch last night at our apartment. The apartment we were supposed to raise our future children in." every last attempt to suppress your sobs went flying out the window when Dana hugged you like you were made of porcelain. "I feel like shit." you mumbled into his shoulder.
"I know but it's not your fault he's an assholes who doesn't deserve you." she tenderly stroked your hair as your sobbed into the shoulder of her scrubs.
"Come on honey let's get you some air." Dana led you out to the empty stairway shielding you from the usual ED mayhem.
Your cries echoed off of the cold tiled walls but Dana being the mother hen she is just hugged you tighter. "It gets better honey trust me." her comforting words cut through your cries and heaving breaths.
Unfortunately for you the last person that you wanted to hear all this just walked in to the stairwell floor above you. Langdon and you had a very much cat and mouse relationship. He would question your every move, every decision, using every opportunity to get under your skin. In short he drove you absolutely fucking insane and the last thing you wanted was for the guy to hear you sobbing over your ex like a pathetic high school girl.
Langdon froze in the spot not knowing whether to let his presence be known or to quietly retreat back into the ED chaos. Choosing peace over another argument with you seemed like a much better idea so with the stealth of a fox he slipped back into the Pitt. Alas even with best intentions in mind the hiss and creak of the heavy metal door betrayed him because as soon as the sound reached your ears your crying ceased and Langdon heard it.
"Thanks uhm thanks Dana I really needed this but uhm we should get back the ED probably needs us, you more than me." you chuckled dryly haphazardly wiping off the smeared mascara before stepping out into the real world again.
The rest of the day went about as smoothly as it could in this hellhole and after the day shift clocked out and the night personnel started rolling in everyone got the bright idea to go for drinks.
"Maybe it'll help you feel better take your mind off of everything." Dana suggested. "Yeah, yeah you're right." you sighed before begrudgingly following the crew to the nearest bar.
After a little while of drinking and relaxing in an attempt to get over this horrible day you started to get tipsy. All of the stress of the patients and stress from the break up led you to be a lot more reckless with your drinks.
By the time eleven pm rolled around most of the hospital staff had left and only Langdon, Santos, Huckleberry and you were left.
"Are you sure you got her Langdon?" Huckleberry asked as Langdon hauled your half drunk ass out of the almost empty bar.
"Yeah I'm sure you two should head on home." Langdon said before you parted ways with Whitaker and Trinity. His hand was firmly planted on your lower back as he led you to his car.
"Okay watch your head." he mumbled before stuffing your limp form into the passenger seat of the vehicle.
Drunk babbles fell from your pretty pink lips eliciting a scoff and a chuckle from the tired Dr. Langdon. "Why're you always such an ass to me? You're so pretty how can you be such an ass?" you slurred not even aware of the words slipping past your lips. It was just this morning that you were at his throat riding him about something dumb you couldn't even remember so hearing such words from your mouth sent Langdon through whiplash.
"Come on you don't even know what you're talking about." he huffed keeping his pale blue eyes fixed on the dark Pittsburg street.
"But you're so fuckable. I mean you can be a complete asshole and a trainwreck but you can be nice sometimes and you're a great doctor I admire you for it." you rambled on and on. Sober thoughts finally pushed to the surface by alcohol.
Langdon didn't respond he couldn't respond but if he were hooked up to a heart monitor right now they'd think he was having a cardiac arrest.
After a twenty minute drive filled with your drunken babbles, soft music and Lagdons thrumming heart you finally made it to your empty apartment. As Langdon dragged you inside, practically having to wrestle with you to get the keys, you kept clinging to him touching his chest, biceps and neck. He cursed under his breath as you refused to settle down on the couch. You giggled wrapping your arms around his neck and crashing your lips against his. Out of instinct his hands gripped your waist steadying your wobbly legs. Your lips moved in sync before Langdon came to his senses.
He pulled away his chest heaving. "Good God I've wanted to do that for so long but not when you're drunk out of your mind. If you still want this when you're sober tell me." Langdon whispered before helping you into bed and leaving the apartment.
synopsis: leaving for a mission theyâre not sure theyâll come back from
warning: angsty, talks of death
a/n this oneâs kinda angsty because I felt like it and if this post gets enough traction I might make a part two after the mission
Ö´ ࣪đ¤ Maki Zenâin Ö´ ࣪đ¤
The air smelled like smoke and steel it was heavy almost suffocating. The sun was already low and setting casting an orange glow over the training grounds. Maki stood there her chest riding up and down with each hesitant breath. She was strapping her weapons back with the usual sharp precision. She was getting ready for a mission, a mission harder than ever before.
âYou shouldnât be here.â she said not even turning to look at you. Her hair was a little messed up some of her gray locs running away from her ponytail.
âNeither should you.â you chuckled but your voice clearly cracked and Maki noticed it immediately. After all she was always attentive and caring when it came to you.
Finally after what felt like a moment too long she turned around to look at you. Her dark green eyes locked with yours and the tension around you could be cut with a knife. Her words were stuck in her throat held behind her teeth.
Donât wait up. Donât get yourself killed. I might not make it back.
Everything was running through her head at once. The importance of the mission, her unsaid fears and the fear of not coming back to you. But she stayed as composed as ever. Her eyes never once betraying any kind of fear. But you could see it. The slight flicker in her eyes, the tension in her shoulders and the way her grip tightened slightly on the strap of her bag.
You stepped closer âMakiâŚâ
She didnât move away instead just silently fixed the collar of your uniform her fingers brushing against your neck for a moment too long.
âYouâll be fine without meâ she said it like a conviction. But you werenât so sure.
Maki froze as your arms wrapped around her tightly before giving into the hug.
After a moment she pulled away and took a step backwards. You stood there in silence, staring at each other, both suffocating under the pressure of words left unsaid.
The see turned away. The click of her weapon was almost like a full stop as she disappeared into the night.
࣪đ¤ Satoru Gojo ࣪đ¤
The city was trembling as if everything could feel the weight of the anticipating battle. Curses slithered from every nook, cranny and crevice. The tension was palpable pressing on your shoulders and chest.
The strongest sorcerer Satoru Gojo was leaning against the doorframe of your shared space. His glasses were resting high on top of his head, pushing the white hair away from his face. He looked calm, unbearably calm for someone whoâd just been handed a mission no sane person would even glance at.
âYouâre staring.â he said with the usual smug and cocky grin adorning his sharp features.
âBecause youâre being reckless again.â you wanted it to sound sharp but the sheer weight of the words made your throat betray you.
âReckless?â he pushed off the wall and approached closer with the usual lazy confidence. The weight of his sheer confidence almost parallel with the weight of the pressure on your chest. âNah Iâm just meâ he smiled but for some reason it felt empty.
You hated this. Hated how he always brushed it off, hated how he acted like he was this untouchable, invincible being. You wished that for at least one moment heâd let the mask drop.
âSatoru.â your voice cracked and for the first time his smile faltered before fully fading. You wanted to beg him not to go but you knew that was useless.
You wanted to beg him to just rethink this and stay with you. In the safety and comfort of your personal little bubble. To tell him that he wasnât as invincible as he wanted the world to believe, and that if he broke, you would break with him.
He stilled. In your naive mind you thought that maybe for once heâd admit he was actually afraid. Show that he still knew that he was human, show that he knew what impact loosing him would have on you. But as quickly as his smile faltered the quicker his mask slipped back on.
âIâll be fine donât worryâ he chuckled wrapping his arms around you from behind. You pressed your back further into his chest enjoying one last moment of warmth before he departed towards hell, Shibuya.
âIâm Gojo Satoru Iâll be back before you know it.â he smiled again tipping his sunglasses back onto his nose.
And with that he was gone. Leaving behind emptiness and painful silence.
࣪đ¤ Itadori Yuuji ࣪đ¤
You sat down to eat dinner with Yuuji as usual but this time there hung a heavy feeling in the air. Yuuji was cracking jokes and making fun of something like he usually would but his laughter seemed forced. Because beneath the surface he was scared.
That evening after dinner heâd be leaving for a mission so dangerous not even some of the most skilled sorcerers would touch it (apart from Satoru Gojo).
As you ate he quietly reached out and held your hand on the table. His fingers gently running over your knuckles and tracing mindless shapes as he continued eating.
You wanted to say something anything but the words got stuck in your throat. Because the truth was too painful to bare and too painful to be said out loud.
After a few more minutes of silence the words finally ripped from your throat in the shape of a quiet whisper meant only for him to hear.
âYouâll be back right?â you tried to sound somewhat confident but the slight shake and crack in your voice betrayed you.
His hand froze and he took a deep breath before slapping on his usual grin. âOf course Iâll be back! I still owe you ramen. Remember?â you wanted to believe him you really did but the constant feeling of dread gnawed at your heart.
He grips your hand tighter letting out a soft chuckle. His smile and laugh would usually be music to your ears but this time it only made you more scared and nervous.
âHey uhm if something happens-â he his voice cracks and the words die on his tongue before he could even voice them out loud.
âForget it nothings gonna happen.â
âYuujiâŚâ
He stands up his chair almost falling as he pulls you into a rib crushing hug. Heâs holding you as if heâs afraid youâll slip through his fingers. The next words from his lips are quiet mumbled softly against your hair.
âI donât want to leave you behindâŚâ
Thereâs a long heavy silence that lasts for just a beat too long before he lets you go just enough to look at your face as if trying to commit it to memory. His smile is soft but his eyes are wet and raw with everything heâs holding back.
âSo⌠just wait for me yeah?â
And just like that he grabs his stuff forcing the smile back onto his face and leaving the comfort of your room. He leaves behind a soul crushing silence, two now cold bowls of ramen and an echo of what couldâve been said-the goodbye he couldnât bear to speak out loud.

Ö´ ࣪đ¤ synopsis Ö´ ࣪đ¤: obanai letâs you see him without his bandages for the first time
Ö´ ࣪đ¤ warnings Ö´ ࣪đ¤: slight talks of insecurity and trauma
âObanai youâve been quiet all evening. More than usual.â I hummed as we sat side by side on one of the decks watching the bright starry sky. âNothing you should worry aboutâ his voice muffled by the bandages. âIâll always worry when it comes to you sillyâ I smiled softly. His gaze was hesitant and he looked nervous on edge as if anticipating something. âI-I know I shouldnât be saying this and I know itâs selfish. You deserve someone better someone whoâs not broken, someone who doesnât come from a cursed family but I canât help it. I think about you when youâre not in the room, I worry about you when you go on missions and I catch myself thinking about your smile, your patience, your eyes. Everything about you is so perfect and I know I donât deserve you but Iâm too selfish to give you up.â he was vulnerable his heart out in the open and I knew his words were sincere. âIguro donât say that. I could never ask for a better companion than you.â he looked into my eyes and without wasting another second mumbled. âI-I love you.â his voice was barely above a whisper, shaking and unsure but his eyes held strong conviction. âI love you too.â Iâve never seen him smile but in that moment I saw his eyes light up just like the stars above us. He gently took my hand and I leaned my head on his shoulder.
Itâs been six months since that faithful evening. Six months of walking side by side on mission through the thick forests, sharing quiet conversations under the night sky and tender touched when we thought no one was looking. But despite all of this weâd never actually kissed.
I knew Obanai was insecure and I knew his scars ran deeper than surface level. He used his bandages not only to hide the jagged marks running along his mouth and cheeks but also to shield himself from the outside world. Knowing all of this I never pressure him to take the bandages off or even asked him to show me what was underneath. But still I couldnât help but wonder what it would feel like for his lips to melt against mine. How tenderly and sweetly heâd kiss me.
Sometimes I would catch him staring at my lips with a longing painful gaze before quickly looking away and shaking it off. My heart ached seeing him like this.
One night we were sitting in his room. The sun had set a while ago leaving only the pitch black night. Everyone at the estate had already gone to sleep or off on a mission far away. Kaburamaru was coiled lazily around his neck and shoulders as if the snake itself could sense the peaceful moment.
âObanai? Can I ask you something?â I whispered softly unconsciously shifting closer towards him.
âWhat is it?â his dual colored eyes flickered up to meet my hesitant gaze.
âDo you think youâll ever trust me enough to let me see you without the bandages?â the words slipped out faster than my brain could react.
âI do trust you. I trust you with my life but itâs not that simple. These scars if you saw them youâdâŚâ he trailed off unable to finish his own sentence.
âObanai I love you. All of you. I would never recoil and I would never run away.â I reassured him my voice soft as I gently laced my fingers with his trembling hands.
âYou donât understandâ he mumbled in protest.
âThen help me understand. I want to know you. All of youâ I met his gaze again.
Obanai pulled his hand out of mine and Kaburamaru as if on que slithered off of his shoulders. His hands were trembling and he looked nervous but despite all of it his fingers gently started unraveling the bandages. My heart was pounding in anticipation. He looked up at me meeting my gaze on last time before he allowed the bandages to drop into his lap. I let out a breath I didnât know I was holding and my eyes widened slightly he instantly lowered his head and covered his mouth with the sleeves off his black and white haori.
âDonât.â I whispered gently pulling his hand away.
Before my brain could fully register what was happening my fingers was gently tracing along the scar tissue his mouth was disfigured and his cheeks deformed but he was so so beautiful.
Registering my silence Obanai pulled away from my touch but I was quick to cup his cheek and pull him in for a soft kiss. He didnât kiss back instead just sat there in pure shock.
After realizing my mistake I quickly pulled away and frantically apologized. âI-Iâm sorry I shouldnât have- I-I donât-â my apology was cut short when he softly cupped my face and pulled me in for a kiss.
It was hesitant, soft but perfect. Better than I ever couldâve imagined. âI told you Obanai I love you. And that means all of you.â I smiled before placing a gentle peck to the corner of his mouth.
âWhy?â he whispered his voice cracking. âWhy would you ever love someone like me?â
âBecause youâre Obanai and thatâs more than enough.â
When he pulled me in again there was no doubt, no hesitation only the deep unwavering certainty. Because this time Obanai was sure I wouldnât run away. For the first time in his life he had someone love him, all of him. Not despite his scars but with them.
â synopsis â: the title is pretty self explanatory
â in this post â: rengoku kyojuro, iguro obanai, muichiro tokito, giyuu tomioka
a/n - there will be a part two of course so if your favorite isnât here theyâll probably be in part two so bear with me school is kicking my ass
â Rengoku Kyojuro â
It happens in the simplest way.
Youâre together, walking back from a particularly draining mission. The night air was cool, a stark contrast to the heated battle you just won. Youâre exhausted, your feet heavy and dragging against the soil, but when you see his tired eyes glance your way you flash him the brightest smile. His chest feels warm way warmer than any flame he could muster up during a fire battle. Itâs the good kind of warm, like sitting in front of a crackling fireplace. Youâre smiling like the fact that youâre both injured, exhausted and on the verge of collapse just an afterthought. Because right now the only thing that does matter is that youâre alive and together. Rengoku is mesmerized his heart skips a beat and he laughs. Itâs loud and wholehearted like usual but with just a hint of softness only for your ears to hear.
âSo thatâs what it feels likeâ he thinks to himself.
From that moment on Rengoku notices every little thing about you. The way your smile gets a little wider when youâre surrounded by people you love, the way youâre nose scrunches up when youâre laughing and the way youâre so infuriatingly stubborn and determined even when things are spiraling out of control. Rengoku is certain this isnât just him admiring the skill and personality of a fellow hashira. This was love, and he doesnât run way, he embraces it. Because for Rengoku love is something to be treasure and celebrated with the same passion he had for everything else.
â Iguro Obanai â
For Obanai the realization doesnât hit like lighting, instead itâs slow. Seeping and creeping into the very essence of his being.
Youâre sitting across from him clumsily trying to stitch up the cut on your arm. A small hiss escapes from your throat most wouldnât notice it but Iguro instantly stands up and walks over to you. âWhatâre you doing?â you asked as he took the thread and needle from your hand. Without another word he sat down next to you and ever so gently stitched up the cut. His touch is precise, deliberate and far more gentle than his usual gruff self.
âThank youâ you murmur and look up at him with that blinding smile and kind eyes and heâs frozen.
His throat tightens under the bandages and turns his face away to hide the ever so growing blush. Heat rises in his chest it terrifies him, and as much as he wants to run away he knows he canât. Iguro Obanai hates attention, hates vulnerability but the thought of protecting you, being the person you feel safe around, being your rock it feels right. Almost too right. He walks out in silence his heartbeat echoing in his head and later in the peace and silence of his loneliness he admits it to himself and Kaburamaru- heâs fallen, and deeply.
â Muichiro Tokito â
For Muichiro his feelings donât come fast and hard they come gently and slowly like clouds covering up the bright blue sky.
âNot like that youâre supposed to fold this partâ he chuckled helping you with some origami. âHowâre you so good at this?â you chuckled, gently touching his hands to inspect the small paper crane. Muichiro turns his head away from you hiding his beet red face. Heâs a mess his thoughts scrambled and his chest uncharacteristically warm and blooming. Heâs confused. The young hashira has never in his life encountered such a sensation. You continued folding the origami in silence the only sounds being the wind rustling some leaves and the cawing of nearby crows and sparrows.
Muichiros thoughts start wandering, but not like usual, theyâre not lost or locked behind some wall. Instead of them running towards and getting covered by the fog his thoughts are clear but theyâre drifting towards you. Your smile, your precise movements while fighting, your patient nature and your kind smile. All of the things Muichiro so greatly admires.
For the first time in a while the young hashira is tethered to the present and when his mind does start clouding up all it takes is your soft voice and gentle reassurance to bring him back. Itâs like no matter how much his mind tries running away from him youâre a constant. Constantly whirling in his head and scrambling his poor brain.
Without knowing who to turn to Muichiro starts closely observing the other hashira. Particularly Obanai and Mitsuri. He sees Obanai blush and loose his footing whenever Mitsuri flashes a smile his way. Thatâs when it clicks for the young hashira he acts the same way whenever heâs around you. And in that moment he realizes heâs foolishly in love with a person far out of his league.
â Giyuu Tomioka â
Giyuu was never good with feelings especially not after loosing Sabito. He could never process what he was feelings thatâs why his feelings and the realization that he loves you hit him fast and hard.
Youâre on patrol the moonlight seeping through the dense forest. Thatâs how it started at least. With stealthy footsteps and a comfortable silence shared amongst comrades, friends. But all of that went south when an upper moon showed up. What was supposed to be an average, uneventful patrol turned to bloodshed, a fight to death. The usually calm Giyuu was slowly loosing him composure. He wouldâve been fine fighting, loosing and dying on his own but with you here itâs much harder. Giyuu will always protect his fellow hashira, but this time it feels different thereâs this unexplainable fear gnawing at his bones. He canât even focus properly on the demons in front of him, his eyes subconsciously drifting to your blurry form.
His heart is pounding, he can practically hear it thumping against his eardrums. Tearing his gaze away from your form he turns back towards the demon until he hears a shrill scream coming from your direction. His hands go cold, his heart practically dropped to his stomach. A wave of fury hits him and in one swift movement the demons head is rolling on the ground as the rest of its body disintegrates. Giyuu is running through the trees his feet carrying him faster than his poor mind can process it. Tomioka draws his blade and slashes the demons head clean off before running to your aid. Your poor body was thrown against a tree stump blood seeping from my mouth.
In that moment Giyuu remembers the final selection process. Watching your unconscious form it reminded him too much of Sabito. Internally heâs panicking and for the first time ever itâs showing on his face. His deep blue eyes are wide with fear his hands shaking uncontrollably. Giyuu isnât religious he doesnât know why heâs begging praying and pleading doesnât even know who heâs praying to. But all of his worries erase in an instant when you tug on the sleeve of his haori. You muster up a weak smile wiping the blood with the back of your hand.
And as Giyuu is carrying you down the mountain he realizes something. Youâre too important for him to loose. He doesnât know what he wouldâve done if you had died on this mountain in his arms. For the first time ever Giyuu can precisely say what heâs feeling- heâs in love.
â summary â: you got injured on a mission and giyuu stays by your side
â warnings â: talks of blood and maybe death
a/n - just a short cute drabble also in this story the reader has ice breathing for my convenience
âIce breathing fifth form: shattered glacierâ I mumbled. After endless fighting I was exhausted fighting an upper moon wasnât easy. Every muscle in my body was tense and rigid my lungs were on fire and my head spinning in circles. I knew this would be my last chance to end this demons life. I took a deep breath steadying my footing before releasing a strong attack with a downward hit straight through its neck. The ground beneath me shook and split as I landed back on my wobbly feet. The demons head and body started disintegrating in front of my eyes but my head was pounding too much to focus on it. My breathing was still so shallow and it felt like I just couldnât get enough air into my body no matter how much I tried. Every cell, every fiber in my body was screaming at me to stop but I knew I had to get back to the estate as quick as possible. It was nowhere near sunrise and I knew that if another demon were to attack me Iâd meet my demise. I sheathed my sword back and painfully started descending down the snow covered rocky mountain.
âS-shitâŚâ I cursed. My hands, haori and uniform were stained crimson, I was loosing more blood by the second leaving an unmistakable trails behind me. The snow which I would usually find comfort in was tainted with my blood and now it seemed more like a mockery of my weakness. I kept going every step heavier than the last but my body was giving up. My knees buckled and I fell into the pristine white snow. âN-no I canâtâŚâ a soft whimper tore from my throat but I couldnât get up. Black spots appeared in my vision everything became so cloudy and distant before my head finally hit the soft snow and darkness washed over me.
*meanwhile at the hashira estate*
âShinobu-san have you seen Y/n?â Giyuu asked with that stoic expression of his. âShe went on a mission yesterday hadnât seen her since.â Shinobu said her voice calm as always. âShe shouldâve been back by now.â Giyuu murmured. âDonât worry Tomioka-San if something were to be wrong Iâm sure her crow wouldâve come already.â Giyuu knew she was strong, he knew she could handle herself but still he cared. His gut told him something was wrong but he pushed those feelings aside masking them with the same cold stoic expression he always wore. âThanks Shinobu.â He mumbled quietly before going somewhere else.
A day later the feeling in his stomach still wasnât settling. âKaw-kaw, kaw-kaw! The ice hashira is injured in Kyushu Mountains near the Miyazaki village after defeating an upper moon!â my crow sounded flying in circles across the estate. Giyuu felt like his heart would rip straight out of his chest. He tried not to show it but his eyebrows furrowed and he bit his lip so hard it bled. âIâm going with you.â it wasnât a question it was a statement. Giyuu Tomioka wasnât anything if not determined and incredibly stubborn. Rengoku nodded and the two set out to the mountain.
After a few hours of searching the sun had already set and the duo could practically feel the demons crawling through the dense forest of the snowy mountain. âThere in the snow!â Rengoku pointed to a figure laying in the deep snow. As soon as Giyuu recognized my haori he practically sprinted towards me. He tripped over the snow hit feet sinking into the white powder but he didnât let it stop him as Rengoku trailed behind him. Giyuu dropped down to his knees and for the first time since Sabito died he felt utterly terrified. His face showed a facade as cold as the glimmering snow but inside his heart was thrumming against his chest practically begging to jump out, his breathing was more shallow and his hands were shaking not from the cold but from fear. Rengoku dropped down to a near panicking Giyuu and checked my pulse âSheâs alive.â he announced. âBut we need to get her out of here quickly sheâs too cold.â Giyuu didnât need to hear anything else he picked her near frozen body up and the pair started descending down the mountain.
I woke up with a startled gasp. Taking in my surroundings I noticed I was no longer up on Kyushu Mountain I was in the Buttefly Mansion wrapped up in warm sheets and my injuries bandaged. My breathing slowly evened out as I laid back down. My tired eyes scanned around the room and my heart warmed up when I saw Giyuu asleep on one of the chairs. He looked peaceful. âHe hasnât left your side since him and Rengoku found you.â Shinobu stated sitting on my bed to check my stitches and bandages. âHe was scared even thought he didnât show it I know him.â I stayed silent as Shinobu continued talking. âYou mean a lot to him donât forget that.â she flashed her signature smile and left as quickly as she came. A small smile tugged at the corners of my mouth as I gently held Tomikaâs hand and drifted back to sleep.
Tomioka Giyuu was never good with emotions nor was he good with words. But when someone meant that much to him he would split the earth in half if it meant those closest to him were safe. He didnât show affection through what he called âempty words and promisesâ but through a constant presence and actions that meant more than any words could.
hey guys I know itâs been a while since Iâve been active on this account but I lowkey just forgot about it and didnât have any inspiration to write. Iâll mostly write x reader but I can also write for character ships and if a character isnât in my master list feel free to request him/her anyway!!
synopsis: rindou had been crushing on you for a while but didn't say anything because he thought you were dating ran
He just couldn't help it. His heart ached every time he saw you hanging out with his brother. You were so perfect in his eyes. The way your nose crinkles when you smile, the way your eyes light up every time you see something beautiful. You were kind, smart, one of a kind. Everything about you was so damn perfect, so it's no wonder Rindou hated that you were dating his brother. He loved his brother dearly, he had been his rock and was always there for him when Rindou needed help. So Rindou couldn't help but feel guilty whenever he'd sent sharp jealous glares towards his brother. But he really couldn't help it.
This went on for months and it was killing Rindou so it was only natural that he went and asked his brother for advice.
"Ran, what would you do if you really liked a girl but a very dear friend of yours was dating here?" Rindou asked sitting at the foot of his brother's bed. "How important is this friend?" Ran questioned. "Very important." Rin answered. "In that case, you're just gonna have to get over her. I'm sorry Rinnie but it's just fucked up to go behind your friend's back like that." Ran answered lazily taking a puff of his cigarette. "Yeah, concluded as much myself thanks Ran." Rindou said sadly getting out of his brothers' room. His shoulders were slumped and his eyes tired.
As the days went on Rindous heart only longed for you more and more. He needed something to distract himself so one day when he came home he devised a plan to try and get you off of his mind. But when he came home he heard soft moans and whimpers coming from the living room. Rindou carefully unlocked the apartment door and shuffled in. To his horror, he saw his brother Ran sitting on the couch with a girl in his lap. They were making out, the only problem was the girl wasn't you. Rindou felt anger bubble in his chest, he couldn't believe Ran could cheat on someone as wonderful and as sweet and as charming as you. "Ran what the fuck are you doing?! How could you cheat?!" Rindou raised his voice interrupting his brother. "Cheat?" Ran asked in disbelief. "Yeah, how could you cheat on y/n?" Rindou asked again. "We aren't in a relationship she's just a friend Rinnie." Ran answered. Confusion was written all over Rindou's face. "Wait, Rinnie. Y/n is the girl you were asking about?" Ran chuckled. Rin's face went red in embarrassment. "So it is her you were talking about! Well, what are you doing standing around still go and tell her." Ran encouraged his brother. When the situation finally registered in Rin's head he immediately dashed out of the door.
It didn't take long for Rin to reach your apartment as you lived quite near him and Ran. He arrived at your door completely out of breath. When you opened the door he immediately took hold of your waist and smashed your lips together. You were a bit startled for a second but after a moment more you wrapped your arms around his neck and kissed him back. "Holy shit I've been waiting to do that for so long." you whispered breathlessly laying your head on his shoulder. "Wait you have?" Rindou looked at you confused. "Yeah, I thought you were cute ever since Ran introduced me to you. He always used to tease me about how we'd make a good couple. I'm just curious why didn't you kiss me sooner." you chuckled. "Well I thought you were dating Ran." loud laughter ripped from your throat. "I would never date that idiot I'm more into blondes." you said twirling a strand of his blonde locs. Rindou blushed his heart fluttering. Oh god, he should have done this sooner.
synopsis: Draken finds out Mitsuya is dating his sister
The twin flames of Tokyo Manji Draken and Mitsuya. Everyone either feared them or adored them. Recently though Draken had noticed a slight change in Mitsuya's behavior. The purple head seemed much happier for some reason. Draken had to find out what was going on. But at the same time, his sister had also gotten much happier. She started disappearing for multiple hours at a time saying she was going to hang out with "friends". But in reality, you were dating Mitsuya, your brother's best friend. A couple of years back when you first met him your brother made Mitsuya promise he wouldn't date you. Of course, as you and Mitsuya started getting closer that promise had long been forgotten. Obviously, Draken had not forgotten the promise as he was now arguing with Mistuya behind closed doors. A couple of days ago he saw you and Mitsuya kissing in some random alley behind your favorite restaurant. And it's safe to say that Draken was beyond pissed. Curently you were eavesdropping on their conversation trying to make out what they were saying. But you only heard a couple of curse words here and there. Ever since Draken found out he had been fighting with Mitsuya.
After about fifteen minutes they both stepped out huffing and puffing in anger. "One rule Mitsuya! One rule! Don't go after my fucking sister." Draken yelled. "Ken, please. I started the relationship, it isn't Mitsuya's fault." you tried defending your boyfriend but it fell on deaf ears. "I forbid you to see each other again." Draken let out coldly. Mitsuya's gaze flickered between you and your older brother. He sent Draken one last angry glare before storming out. "I hate you." you spat out. Those words hit Draken like daggers piercing right through his heart. "Wai-" he tried reaching out, tried pulling you back but it was useless you had already locked yourself in your room. If he really wanted to Draken could have just broken down your door but that would only further ruin your relationship.
The last couple of days had been torture. You didn't speak to your brother and you couldn't see your boyfriend. Heck, you didn't even want to look at your brother. Sure you loved him but this time he went too far. After Draken saw the dark circles decorating your face and how puffy your eyes had gotten from crying so much he realized he had to do something. "I'm going out." Ken yelled exiting the house. You didn't bother to ask him where he was going simply because you just didn't care.
Later that night the front door of your apartment opened up, and you didn't leave your room to greet him. But you did perk up when you heard the soft voice of your boyfriend on the other side of your locked room. You immediately jumped off the bed and opened the door as quickly as you could. After you opened the door you jumped into his arms as he spun you in the air. After Mitsuya put you back on the floor you looked at the two of them. "Draken came looking after me and we made up." upon hearing those words you hugged your brother getting up on your tip toes to press a sweet kiss on his cheek. Mitsuya snaked an arm around your waist before booking back at your brother. "You know Draken I don't know why you were so pissed about me dating her. I mean you are dating Mikey's sister." you and Mistuya laughed while Draken had an unamused look on his face. "Touche." he grumbled going back downstairs.
It was cold outside and you like usual forgot your jacket at home. And oh how convenient it was when you saw Rindous jacket just laying around. While your boyfriend was talking to some people you swiftly grabbed his jacket and put it on. The jacket provided you with warmth and comfort, it smelled like Rin, intoxicatingly sweet. "Hey babe have you seen my-" Rindou asked turning around but stopping mid sentence when he saw you. He wanted to put on his jacket but how could he take it from you when you looked so damn cute. A light blush crept onto his face and the tips of his ears. One of the most scary people almost everyone feared was fumbling with his words and blushing profusely just because you wore his jacket. "Rin are you alright you kind of froze." you asked waving a hand infront of the blondes face. "Yeah, I'm fine you just look so damn cute." he chuckled wrapping his arms around you lovingly.
MIKEY
You constantly stole your boyfriends hoodies, I mean it was his fault really why did he have to have such comfortable and pretty hoodies. But despite always wearing his clothes you never wore his Toman jacket. At this point Mikey had gotten used to seeing you in his hoodies, I mean yeah sure butterflies always pooled in his stomach and yeah his heart skipped a beat now and again but he was used to it. What he wasn't used to however was seeing you in his Toman jacket, so you can imagine his shock when you showed up to a Toman meeting wearing his jacket. The words leader Mitsuya embroidered on the sleeve were on full display for everyone to see. Everyone knew you were his and if they didn't already now they knew for sure. Mikey shuffled closer towards you wrapping the jacket more around you. His face was dusted with a light pink blush but they didn't need to see that so he choose to bury his head in the crook of your neck wrapping his arms around you waist.
DRAKEN
You were with the gang at some random party Izana decided to host. Everyone was having a great time dancing and laughing, making out and drinking. You were also having a wonderful time singing at the top of your lungs. The alcohol you had drank earlier provided a nice kind of buzz to the already exiting atmosphere. For the party you decided on wearing a short black mini skirt a sparkly silver top and black heels. To Draken you looked out of this world. Everything matched up perfectly, the skirt showed of your ass which was probably Drakens favourite part of your body, he could just stare at you for eternity and never get tired. And thats exactly what he did he kept a watchfull eye on you the whole night just to make sure some creep woudldn't try anything. Once some creep did try to hit on you thinking you didn't have a boyfriend Draken came and politely led you out of the house. "Thanks babe." you said getting up on your tip toes to kiss you taller boyfriend. "I think this is like the fifth guy that hit one tonight." you said chuckling. "Well I can't blame them, you look stunning." Draken complimented nuzzling his head in the crook of your neck. He left feather light kisses while wrapping his arms around your waist. "I know how we'll solve this." he let go off you and took off his jacket. "Here." he draped the jacket gently over your shoulders. He let go off you and took a step back. Immediately when he saw you wearing his jacket Draken melted. Such a strong and large man was like putty when it came to you. He was obviously much taller and bigger than you and the jacket which fit him perfectly was oversized on you. Rosy blush crept up on his face. "How do I look?" you asked twirling around nuzzling into the fabric. Draken felt his heart swell at the sight of you. "Better than ever." he stepped close and held your waist before placing sweet kiss to your lips. "Come on let's go inside." you grabbed his hand and led him back inside. Now everyone would know you're his, especially with the words VICE PRESIDENT embroidered on the sleeve.
MITSUYA TAKASHI
Mitsuya had sown a lot of pieces of clothing tailored just for you. He loved seeing you happy while wearing clothing he put so much work and effort into making just right, for you. Currently you were in a train with your boyfriend going on a date. You wore a beautiful jacket that he tailored, but it was a little too hot since the train was crowded. So not wanting to boil alive you opted to take your jacket off. As you were sitting down you layed it gently across your lap. You'll be getting off in two stops anyway so what could happen especially with Mitsuya sitting next to you. A lot apparently because one stop before you were supposed to get off someone ran by you and snatched your jacket. You quickly realised what had happened and tried running after him but it was too late. You looked sadly back at your boyfriend. "Hey, it's no big deal. I'll make you another one." he comforted you. "Yeah, thanks Mitsuya." you said leading him off of the train. As you made your way up the stairs and into the open street you suddenly realised how bloody cold you were. The cold air sent shivers down your spine, it chilled you to the bone. Mistuya noticed you lightly shaking before he, like a true gentleman that he is, took off his jacket and wrapped it snug around you. You glanced up at your boyfriend nuzzling further into the soft fabric. Mitsuya felt like he could explore with adoration. You looked so pretty, he truly didn't deserve you. Mitsuya wrapped his amrs around you holding you close. His cheeks were red but his heart was full of love.
