so i am a math major and absolutely love doing random math and just calculating things that do not need to be calculated.
that being said, i did some calculations on the intro sequence for my babysitter's a vampire
i calculated the amount of scenes in the sequence from each episode as well as the total amount of time each character is in the total sequence
the results are under the cut if you're interested!
so first off i'd like to preface some things
the source of the title sequence that i used is from season 1 episode 1: Lawn of the Dead uploaded to YouTube by Ethan's Upload Channel (link is here)
The program i used to see timestamps and determine the duration of each clip is Microsoft Clipchamp as it was already on my computer and since this is just a fun project i didn't see a point in paying for a professional program or spending too much time looking for one. so therefore it is entirely possible that the times that it said are not accurate and mistakes were made
on the topic of mistakes being made. i did this in one sitting and just for fun so there are possibly mistakes among this somewhere so apologies for that
anyway onto the numbers
so i counted the number of individual clips in the whole sequence which was 4 clips per the main 5 in the beginning and 19 other clips following those 20. so there are 39 total clips in the sequence.
E1: Lawn of the Dead had a total of 3 clips in the sequence which equals to 7.69% of the total clips
E2: Three Cheers for Evil had a total of 2 clips in the sequence which equals to 5.13% of the total clips
E3: Blood Drive had a total of 6¹ clips in the sequence which equals to 15.38% of the total clips
E4: Guys and Dolls had a total of 3 clips in the sequence which equals to 7.69% of the total clips
E5: Double Negative had a total of 2 clips in the sequence which equals to 5.13% of the total clips
E6: Friday Night Frights had a total of 1 clip in the sequence which equals to 2.56% of the total clips
E7: Smells Like Trouble had a total of 1 clip in the sequence which equals to 2.56% of the total clips
E8: Die Pod had a total of 2 clips in the sequence which equals to 5.13% of the total clips
E9: Blue Moon had a total of 2 clips in the sequence which equals to 5.13% of the total clips
E10: Doug the Vampire Hunter had a total of 3 clips in the sequence which equals to 7.69% of the total clips
E11: The Brewed had a total of 3 clips in the sequence which equals to 7.69% of the total clips
E12: Three Geeks and a Demon had a total of 8¹ clips in the sequence which equals to 20.51% of the total clips
E13: Revamped had a total of 3 clips in the sequence which equals to 7.69% of the total clips
¹ the clips that cut to a different angle but were consecutive in the episode and title sequence and showed the same scene were counted as one clip instead of two separate clips as they are the same scene just split into two separate shots. (this is referring to the clip of Sarah fighting the nurses and of Ethan blowing the dust off of the spirit board)
now onto the character part
i determined the length of the entire sequence and then determined the duration that each character was shown². the only characters i calculated were Ethan, Benny, Rory, Sarah, Erica, and Jane.
Jane was present in the sequence for 03.20 seconds which equals 7.07% of the total sequence
Erica was present in the sequence for 06.62 seconds which equals 14.62% of the total sequence
Rory was present in the sequence for 14.21 seconds which equals 31.38% of the total sequence
Sarah was present in the sequence for 14.88³ seconds which equals 32.85% of the total sequence
Benny was present in the sequence for 20.86 seconds which equals 46.06% of the total sequence
Ethan was present in the sequence for 21.47 seconds which equals 47.41% of the total sequence
There is 06.19³ seconds of the title sequence which does not have any of the main five or Jane, this equals to 13.67% of the sequence
² i did not include the clips where a character is just out of view/not the center of focus (such as the scene with coach ed where ethan's head is slightly in frame and the scene where sarah is fighting the nurses and ethan is just off to the side not really in or the focus of the scene)
³ i did not include the clip where the demon from episode 12 was possessing Sarah into the clips of Sarah and instead included it into the category of non main characters as i do not count those as Sarah since she was not herself. if you disagree with this i did the calculations and including the demon clip then Sarah is present for 16.25s which is 35.88% and the scenes without the main 5 and Jane is 4.82s which equals 10.64%
