I think the most hilarious place to put Post-Canon Sokka would have been the university at Ba Sing Se. I think he would have made a great unhinged professor. Also, in true Sokka fashion, he should have completely dodged fame. Momo is more famous than he is.
He wants to demonstrate to the class how this thing called electricity works, so he's going to be bringing in a Firebender, so everybody be cool, we're all friends here... and in walks Princess Azula of the Fire Nation. One-time conqueror of the city. One of the students is currently writing an essay on how her brief rule of the city affected fruit trade. She says she considers the class to still be her subjects as she doesn't acknowledge any pretenders to any of her thrones, but for now you're exempted from bowing and "Your Highness" will do. It's a really interesting lecture.
"Okay, guys - hey, listen up, everyone - I won't be here next week, me and Aang are going to-" yeah right, sure, Professor Sokka knows the Avatar. Except, of course, the Avatar walks in sheepishly and says that Appa might have gotten into Sokka's hybrid crops, and then you all have to sit there and watch your professor chase the Avatar around with a sword.
One postgrad student is specializing in Water Tribe Cultures. She's currently studying the massive cultural shift that happened in the Northern Water Tribe at the end of the war - oh, and Professor, I absolutely know that you're from the Southern Water Tribe, but it's just that the shift started with Master Katara, and of course I don't think that every person from the South knows one another haha it's just that I need to ask her some questions and I thought maybe you could help me write a letter or write a letter of introduction or...
Sokka looks at her blankly and goes "yeah, she's my sister. KATARA!" which is followed by a faint answering "fuck you!" from Somewhere and to the horror/elation of our postgrad, Master Katara bursts in and is promptly beaned in the head with a rock by Professor Sokka. Her brother. her hero and her professor are siblings and currently brawling on the floor.
The Dragon Republic is a comedy actually
speerly princess rin and her pathetic man
always find it funny that one of RF Kuangâs biggest criticisms is that she âshows off her intelligence too muchâ cause like dude if I had two PhDs I would be showing off too
And if the Chaltan fic looks like this I DONT WANT IT
Theyâre both grown men and we all know Chaghan is the meaner one. Stop making him uwu petite and helpless for no reason
when people make altan mean and aggressive and chaghan his poor sweet boyfriend, meanwhile in canon altan is super sweet with the cike and generally a nice person whereas chaghan is an utter asshole for the love of the game
AND MIND YOU in book one when they got into an argument, it was chaghan who got violent and tried manhandling altan while altan just kinda took it đđ
anyone trying to say "why can't men just be friends" about enjolras and grantaire always makes me laugh because like. in canon they're not even friends. enjolras doesn't even really like him! and grantaire did not yearn his ass off and venerate/admire/love and volunteer to die by his side because he wanted to be FRIENDS with him. friends doesn't even begin to cover what they've got going on

Mammal in a Sunday Dress, by Georgina M. Cox, 2026
Mammal in a Sunday Dress explores the uneasy relationship between femininity, civilisation, and the animal body. At first glance, the figure appears modest and withdrawn. Her posture is composed, her gaze seemingly lowered towards her bare feet, recalling the conventions of nineteenth-century portraiture where women were often depicted as passive objects of observation. Yet as the viewer moves closer, the illusion collapses. Her eyes are not lowered at all. She is looking directly back. The delayed eye contact transforms the encounter. The viewer approaches believing they are safely observing a woman; instead, they realise they have been observed themselves. The work refuses the traditional power dynamic of portraiture, denying the comfort of anonymous spectatorship. Looking becomes a reciprocal act. For Cox, the painting considers humanity's persistent desire to separate itself from the rest of the animal kingdom. The title quietly undermines this distinction. A "mammal" is not another creatureâit is us. The Sunday dress, rich with cultural associations of femininity, morality, and respectability, becomes an attempt to distinguish ourselves from nature. Yet clothing cannot alter biology. Beneath lace and ritual remains the same vulnerable animal body. The work also reflects on the historical relationship between women and nature. Across art, religion, and philosophy, women have repeatedly been positioned as closer to instinct, emotion, reproduction, and the body itself, while men have been aligned with reason, culture, and civilisation. Mammal in a Sunday Dress does not reject this comparison. Instead, it questions why proximity to nature has so often been treated as something lesser. Chiaroscuro isolates the figure within darkness, allowing the luminous dress to symbolise the performance of civilisation while the bare feet quietly return the body to the earth. Neither is presented as more truthful than the other. The painting exists in the tension between performance and instinct, refinement and biology. Mammal in a Sunday Dress ultimately asks a simple but unsettling question: if every layer of culture were stripped away, what would remain? Not a king. Not a saint. Not a gentleman or a lady. Only another mammal, looking back.

Song lyrics translation below the cut:
Lead me from the unreal to the real.
Lead me from darkness to light.
Lead me from death to immortality.
Peace, Peace, Peace.
Look, the sky is filled with light.
Look, the sky is completely filled with stars.
Look, right by the path of departure.
The wind is rushing by like crazy.
Such a grand celebration of joy all around,
Yet it all feels completely futile without me.
Let my clenched fist keep holding on,And let the stream of tears keep flowing from both eyes.
The final hour has arrived, majestic like a king,
The final accounting of all life's deeds is finished.
It calls out: "Come, run and come quickly!"
"For here, there is neither death nor old age."
I think I should be allowed to adopt Robin Swift; frankly, Iâd be a much better father than the one he has
This blog is exclusively pro-Chaghan. I love him, heâs amazing, I need a 500 page character study on his life
this part always makes me laugh because âfive years agoâ chaghan was FIFTEEN, no wonder he was âfrail and bizarreâ tyr, he was going through puberty, let the poor kid live đđ
Naimad and Ketreyid Names in The Poppy War
I went down a rabbit hole of researching names in The Poppy War series because there are some really interesting stories behind some of them.
The characters from the Hinterlands all have Mongolian names (as the region is based on Mongolia).
The two main tribes we hear about are the Naimads and the Ketreyids, whose names are taken from the Naiman and Khereid (also spelled Keraite, Kereyit, and various other ways) people, their stories seem to be more original to the series rather than based on historical evidence though.
Firstly the Naimads:
Chaghan (á źá á á á á ¨) means âwhiteâ in Mongolian and Qara (á Źá á ˇá ) means âblackâ which feeds into their concept of being two halves of a whole, balancing each other.
The second part of their name, Suren (á °á Śá ˇá Ąá ¨), means something akin to âamuletâ or âprotective guardian spiritâ, and is of Tibetan origins. Despite the twins sharing this name it is not a surname, but rather, a second given name. It could be the case that their mother, Kalagan, gave them the name after her niece, Tseveriâs, horrific end, wishing for protection for her own children after their cousinâs life was cut short.
Next, the Ketreyids:
Tseveri (á źá Ąá ¸á Ąá ˇá ˘) means âpureâ or âcleanâ, possibly representing her genuineness and innocence which the Trifecta crushed by betraying her. The romanisation doesnât make this clear but actually, âChaghanâ (also romanised as Tsagaan) and âTseveriâ both start with the same sound.
Bekter (á Şá Ąá Źá ˛á Ąá ˇ) comes from the name of Genghis Khanâs half brother who young Temujin (Genghis Khanâs birth name) killed with the help of his full brother, Qasar, after Bekter stole a fish that they had caught while their family was living as outcasts. Basically, Bekter is an asshole.
The Sorqan Sira (also romanised as Sorgan Shira) is the name of one of the Nine Ministers of Genghis Khan who saved young Temujin from captivity by hiding him and misleading his pursuers to allow him to escape. Sira also means âyellowâ in Middle Mongolian and can be used to describe a yellowish or pale complexion.
Kalagan I have had the most trouble with. I havenât been able to find any evidence of the name being used anywhere as of yet. The closest and most fitting ideas I came across were by breaking down her name like this:
- The first part of her name without the common ending âganâ, kal (can also be spelled like khal) could relate to the word âkhalkhlakhâ which means âto protectâ or âto shieldâ which could hint to her role perhaps as her older sisterâs protector, her right hand warrior (before Tseveriâs death drives a wedge between them) and also as the protector of her children, giving them the name Suren.
- Another option could be looking at the word âKalganâ which means âgateâ or âfrontierâ, with the impression of a door in a barrier, it is also the historical name for the Chinese city of Zhangjiakou which borders Inner Mongolia. Historically, it served as the entry route from the Mongolian plateau down towards Beijing after Mongol troops would have crossed the harsh Gobi Desert (which Iâm pretty sure is what the Baghra Desert of The Poppy War is based on). Kalaganâs name could tie into this idea of a gateway between Nikan and the Ketreyid territory that they were fighting back and forth over (and was eventually breached by the Trifecta and given to Horse Province) and it being her responsibility to defend this land and protect from Nikara invasion, which becomes ironic when she is the one blamed for Tseveriâs death and the incident with the Trifecta.
Feel free to correct me on anything, especially the Mongolian Script as I do not read it. I tried to use a Cyrillic to Mongolian Script website but Iâm not sure how accurate it is so take this with a grain of salt.
