Imagine finding out you have 90 minutes to tie up a love story that's developed over thousands of years. You create something beautifully in character and completely on point for the plot. You pay homage to the original writer's legacy in a fitting and poetic way and create an ending that not only shows the depth of two people's love for each other but the wider love they have for the thing that brought them together in the first place.
And then you go online to find the loudest outcry is that everyone hates it and "THEY DIDN'T EVEN KISS!"
I feel sorry for people who didn't get anything out of that stunning finale.
Finished the movie like an hour ago, so just some thoughts.
Even though I love good omens, I've read plenty of FanFiction and Interac with most fanart, I stepped out of the fandom bc it became terrible after season 2 blew up. Still, I am so surprised to see people so upset, probably bc I'm so out of everything. I watched the show when it came out, and for a long time season one was my comfort show, I remember not even expecting a season 2 and being happy about it. I kinda hate the way people turned the narrative of the show to their liking after the second season though.
THE SHOW WAS NEVER ONLY ABOUT AZIRAPHALE AND CROWLEY, MY GOD
Yes, they are the protagonists, but it really upsets me how people are saying the ending is another doomed queer media, and being so hateful about it. Maybe you guys are not happy about it, but the show always has been about faith, the dichotomy of good and evil, how humans and how two beings that weren't supposed to ended up acting like humans. They did what they could with the time they had, and yes, it is an ending you expect. But like, isn't like that with plenty of very good media? When you start to watch harry potter, do you ever doubt that the finale is going to be him fighting and winning against Voldemort? I don't get the problem.
They're happy, they loved each other and they both agreed that they loved humanity even more, maybe not everything is about dating and kissing. I hate the way now everyone talks about kissing like there's no way people can be together if that doesn't happen. They both have been around for centuries, have seen thousands of civilizations and costumes, and you believe they see love as a bunch of teenagers and young adults do? Stop pushing the way you people see and feel love to every media you watch, please. As someone in the asexual spectrum that narrative is starting to get really tiring.
It's also so sad to see people so angry about the last 15 minutes too, like, that's for us to enjoy. Is their way of saying that aziraphale and Crowley will find each other no matter what.
Yes it was rushed, and it wasn't perfect, but given what they had I think they did a good job with it. I don't know, I'm rambling, anyways, to me it was good. It made me feel the way season one made me feel, it's nice, it's clear they love each other. Of course I would have loved to see more of that love, but again, it's not a show about their relationship. I didn't want a dramatic, romantic kinda crazy ending, and I'm glad it wasn't like that.
That new clip of ofmd made me remember how fucking exited and impatient I am for the new season. I love Izzy, he is my little meow meow, I'm going to break if at the end of the season he is not at least a little bit happy :')
