ok I get Jax didn’t turn to the camera and say “I’m a trans woman” but it pisses me off how many people are still apparently resistant to the idea, because the show pretty much did everything short of that.

Spoilers under cut. Obviously.

like ok. Let’s just talk about the scene with Ribbit. Jax doesn’t just say she told her mom a secret that could have been anything, insert headcanon here. She says she told her mom something very personal about herself that she thought would get her off her back—and this was right after explaining that her mom was projecting all of her complicated feelings about Jax’s dad onto her and was constantly comparing her level of masculinity to his.

I can’t think of anything that plausibly fits both “very personal secret” and “might make mom stop thinking of me as an extension of my dad” save for “hey mom I’m actually not a man at all.” (And then also is something that would make her mom laugh, berate her—really viciously from the sounds of it—for an extended period, and then hug her, all in sequence.)

And then in response, Ribbit puts a bow on Jax’s head and says “Your secret is safe with me.” Which obviously on its face is about the story that Jax just shared—but combined with the action of gifting her a feminine accessory, it’s also a clear indication that Ribbit put 2 and 2 together about what Jax told her mom, and will keep that secret safe too. If the secret ISN’T that she’s trans, you lose the double meaning, and the pairing of those words and that action ceases to make sense.

Like sure, I guess you can take whatever secret you want and clumsily argue for it by making up reasons it technically fits all the criteria—not like I can stop you—but let’s be serious here. there is CLEARLY an intention you are choosing to ignore if you do that. At this point, Jax being transfem is the Occam’s razor answer to pretty much every question about her characterization and backstory. and there is a reason you are so resistant to acknowledge that.

like I think this is a fundamentally anti-trans perspective. governments across the world are making this a reality for trans people, trans people are frequently told by family/friends/etc that they’re just cross-dressers, conversion therapy for trans people is meant to prevent us from transitioning because we should be happy to express ourselves in our own “natural” bodies, terfs frequently say they are dysphoric but refuse to transition because transness isn’t real. you don’t need a petition for this

Help a t4t couple escape Tennessee!

Hi, my name is Bennett. I'm a disabled, queer transgender man and I've lived in Tennessee all of my life. If you're unaware, Tennessee has been passing numerous bills that target trans people. This has included bills targeting transgender teachers, allowing people to sue their doctors for "coercing them to transition" and the most dangerous one of all: putting all people receiving trans-affirming care on a registry. This is especially dangerous for me and my girlfriend, as we are a t4t couple who live in a very conservative area. The registry would include a patient's sex, age, type of gender affirming treatments given, and state and county of residence. This would put a major target on our backs.

We both come from transphobic families, and I am entirely financially dependent on my right-leaning family. I cannot tell my parents that I have to move for this reason because I know they would oppose it. Right now we are planning on moving to Minnesota and trying to figure things out with the resources we have. I am a full-time graduate student who has physical disabilites, so it would be incredibly difficult for me to get a job and maintain all three of those aspects at the same time. Therefore, having some money that we could access in a worst-case-scenario would be helpful for both me and my partner.
