something something replacing gabrielle de lioncourt with the name gabriella which is girlier imo…taking away her horror at her inability to change her body and the transmasc implications of that…taking away her sturdiness, sleeping in dirt and traveling for months on end alone…her hunger to see the world and her independence…taking away all nuance from the small amount of incest that does happen in the book and explicitly sexualizing it…giving lestat the ‘groomed from a young age by an adult who took care of them’ arc instead of explaining that about armand…making her whole character revolve around manipulating him for sex…sexualizing the interesting, flawed dynamic gabrielle and lestat have and tying his hypersexuality (another thing that wasn’t prevalent in the books) to his abandonment issues, which is another thing that is huge for armand in the series. she isn’t just his mother who he has sex with. she’s his fledgling, his companion. he turned her, and drank her blood, which in the books is the prevailing metaphor for sex but wasn’t stressed upon. they took everything that was beautiful about her character and what she meant to lestat and spat on it.
not to mention that fucking count dracula ass accent. what the hell
Genuinely one of my favorite things about TNG is how often they're just doing art for fun. Riker's been playing trombone since he was a kid and he really enjoys it and also he is Not Good. Dr. Crusher is stalking the halls trying to rope all her friends and acquaintances into joining her community theater productions and musical reviews even if they've never been on stage before. They're constantly going to their crewmates' music recitals and poetry readings, and some of these people are impressively good at what they do but some of them are just getting started or content to stay at beginner level. They're having fun! They don't have to be prodigies in order to be involved with art because engaging with art on whatever level has value of its own! THIS is what I want to see in my post-scarcity socialist space future. Will Riker's bad trombone playing is load-bearing, actually.

hello friendly reminder that you do not need a special occasion to use nice things! if you wait long enough your nice bath bomb won't be as fizzy! your favourite fruits will go out of season! candles are meant to be burned, not looked at! you're not enjoying your special tea if it's just sitting in your cupboard! you're allowed to have nice and special things on completely ordinary days! heck, it might just make that day special!!
Instead of printing out images I like from the internet, I just redraw them on sticky notes and put them in my physical journal.
Please remember that almost everyone around you is traumatized. I didn’t understand this when I was younger. I wondered why people acted so strangely and irrationally. Maybe all children wonder this. The author Robert Anton Wilson said (paraphrasing), “We have never seen a completely sane adult human.” No one makes it out of this life alive. It’s not their fault. Mercy, kindness, forgiving — these are what makes one human. They are other names for love. People break in the strangest of ways.
“Under the present brutal and primitive conditions on this planet, every person you meet should be regarded as one of the walking wounded. we have never seen a man or woman not slightly deranged by either anxiety or grief. we have never seen a totally sane human being." — Robert Anton Wilson

If the system ain't broke, don't fix it, I guess! Accounting may not be the oldest profession, but someone had to keep the books for them.
I mean, in theory I know that Excel is based on the structure of earlier accounting technology that's been around for hundreds of years -- what do we think we did to track commerce before computers? -- but it still kind of blows my mind to, for example, look at my ancestor's journal from a whaling voyage in 1770 and see spreadsheets in the back.
According to the book I'm reading, proto-Cuneiform writing seems to have actually started as spreadsheets to keep track of resources rather than as a way to record language or express ideas.
The administrators of that extremely early city had to keep track of lots of things, and doing this by memory alone was a nightmare. These spreadsheets were devised as a solution to that as an evolution of an earlier system that used clay tokens and balls.
Spreadsheets are older than written language as we currently understand it.
