Championship Sunday
Today was a great day for the NFL and a terrible day for special teams. It started off with a great game between the New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens. Tom Brady and Joe Flacco went punch for punch right up until the last possession in the fourth quarter. Under 30 seconds to go and Flacco delivers a strike to veteran Lee Evans for a touchdown!....oh wait the ball got knocked out immediately after he made the catch. The catch would have basically sealed the game but don't worry, enter left is Billy Cundiff to attempt a 32 yard chip shot to send the game to overtime. The second the ball left his foot it was wide left, extremely wide left. Out trots Tom Brady to take a knee and send his team to a fifth Superbowl with him under center. Next up a defensive battle between the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Giants. Every time the Giants had the ball it seemed like Eli Manning was being slammed to the ground, but he kept getting back up. He stood strong in the pocket and made the right throws at the right times. Four quarters would not be enough to decide the NFC Championship so this game went into overtime. It would be a back and forth defensive battle in overtime until Kyle Williams returned a punt and had the ball stripped and basically giving New York the game. Out trots Lawrence Tynes for a 31 yard chip shot with the ball spotted in the middle of the field. He splits the uprights sending the Giants to face the Patriots once again in Superbowl 46. A few hours after Twitter blew up with tweets about Billy Cundiff it would be swarmed with tweets about Kyle Williams. At one point I received the "Twitter is over capacity message." Tom Brady has been waiting for a chance for a rematch and he will get that rematch against Eli in Indy.

Big Ten Football regular season breakdown over the past 4 years, Michigan State has been seriously hosed!
Roll-ing over the Tigers like an unstoppable TIDE!
Seconds after the game winning field goal on November 5, 2011 commentators, sportscasters and athletes began speaking of a rematch. Well the college football dominos fell in place to make that happen and the date was set for January 9, 2012.
When Alabama and LSU took the field this past Monday the atmosphere in New Orleans was electrifying. Minutes in to the game the LSU fans that practically filled up the Superdome would be silenced. Alabama's defense was playing like an NFL defense similar to the Steelers or Baltimore Ravens. Every time Jordan Jefferson dropped back he was swarmed by Alabama defenders.
It took LSU until the fourth quarter to get across midfield! The announcers Kirk Herbstreit and Brent Musburger even joked that the midfield line should just be the goal line. This high powered LSU offense recorded only 5 first downs and less then 100 yards the entire game.
The LSU defense actually kept this game from being a 40+ point, old fashion butt woopin down at the bayou by holding Alabama to a record five field goals. After the much anticipated rematch, Alabama proved it was the best team and deserved to be the 2012 National Champions.
The main question I have is; when is college football going to get away from this BCS (Bowl Championship Series) garbage?
The dominate defense performance was great for some but extremely boring for others such as myself. I would have preferred to see Oklahoma State in a shootout verse LSU with a player like Justin Blackmon who recorded 3 touchdowns and 186 yards against Stanford. So much comes down to computers and gives teams like OK State little chance for a National Title because of one blemish on their season from an emotional loss to Iowa State.
There needs to be a playoff in college football and it needs to start immediately. There is no longer three or four powerhouse teams that take turns winning the title every year. Coaches are moving around and they are recruiting nationally so the talent in college football is just unbelievable. I would suggest a 6 team playoff with the top two seeds receiving a first round bye. If you want to take this year for example if could have looked like this:
Oregon (5) v. Wisconsin (6) - Winner plays LSU (1)
Oklahoma State (3) v. Stanford (4) - Winner plays Alabama (2)
The BCS has turned into nothing more then a money hungry group of individuals that care more about selling tickets then having deserving teams in the BCS games.
Please let me know your thoughts on the BCS or what you would change in the current system.
