Gonna be honest a lot of people deep down view cheating as worse than abuse which is why so many people view downright controlling and manipulative behavior in a relationship as 100% permissible so long as that behavior is centered around either preventing or discovering cheating.

#yuuuuuuppppp #people will insist that they have full control over their partners whereabouts #that they have control over what their partner wears #“i feel uncomfortable with you going to that work event because I know that your coworker thinks you're hot”#“it's not that i don't trust you. i don't trust other women/men”#so genuinely this might be the thing that drives me the most insane when talking about relationships with people #girls who used to love clubbing/music festivals/raves completely stopping when they get into a relationship #people literally ending lifelong friendships because they get a new partner #when i ask my female friends how their male friend is doing and she's like “oh i haven't talked to him since he got w his new girlfriend”#and they say it as if it's a point of basic respect #your partner of 3 months will expect you to abandon your entire social network and give up long term friendships #oh and don't get me started on the “you can't be friends with x person anymore because they cheated and staying friends means you support”#as if friendships aren't complex relationships in their own right #as if your new partner is more a part of your life than your entire extended friendship #but fr tho the amount of times i've heard “oh i like that top but idk if my boyfriend will be okay with it”#or other similar things where people are happy to give up their own autonomy so that their partner has less of a reason to suspect cheating #i think that cheating is bad and that it's a complete betrayal. i would be devastated if my partner ever did it to me #but the abuse and manipulation that happens in an effort to ensure that no cheating happens I think is often worse #that said this is a thing I've always struggled to understand #because the concept of my partner cheating on me as in betraying my trust etc is horrible #but I have literally no aversion to the concept of him sleeping with someone else #i straight up do not understand people who get really worked up about that idea #like idk i kinda think it's hot #so idk i've always felt that there's smth fundamental about this whole conversation that i'm just missing out on completely #whatever that sort of gut disgust or urge is around the concept of it is smth i just straight up do not experience #so i feel like i see all the weird culture stuff around it #without the context of the feeling of visceral hatred towards the thing that it's protecting against
