locked the fuck in get my money up
So can non-disabled people stop doing that thing where they act like it’s morally righteous to force yourself to work while you’re sick and assume taking sick days automatically equates to laziness. Any time now. That’d be great
The leader of the scout group I help out at approached me out of hours while I was walking to work to tell me that people have been talking behind my back because I missed more sessions than I attended this term (on account of having Covid twice) and was like “We all show up when we’re sick because we take responsibility” and I felt really shitty and guilty and cried the whole workday then I got home and told my mum and she was like “So they want you to throw up on the kids? That’s dodgy. They don’t even pay you. Stop going” and a wave of serenity hit me like a bus
#Bethesourceofserenity #notthesourceofsickness #bekind
it’s actually quite easy to take over a small local government group if you really want to, bc if you volunteer consistently people will just put you in charge of whatever. I’m now one of like three people at a nature preserve making official decisions about trails, putting in a prairie, and designing a series of illustrations for a storybook trail etc., and it’s just because last summer I started coming over once a week to help the naturalist out for a couple hours. Mine now. you too can steal an organization and shape it to your will 🫵
"Why is my local org not doing X?"
Because the people running it now have been running it for decades. They are tired, even if they are not set in their ways. Probably no one has suggested it to them because people are more likely to grumble quietly than express themselves. If you want them to do X, either offer to do it or insert your bee into someone else's bonnet and get them to do it.
Important
You know.
I feel like.
Something Tumblr has failed to understand in its quest to become solvent.
Is that user surveys would probably help in providing things people would actually pay for!
--I would pay up to $5 a month to be able to list my crochet for sale in-app. I post the photos and information and indicate it's a sales post, Tumblr provides the "buy here" link.
--I would pay $30 a year for ad-free, but not $70.
--I would pay $1/mo to have a second user icon, and while $1/mo isn't much, it adds up. Indeed, back in the LJ days it was really common to pay for extra icons for your RP accounts so your character could "make facial expressions."
--that $70/yr? I'd pay that if it included one free Blaze per month, no ads, and three user icons.
I would pay to help keep the lights on if they gave me something I felt was worth paying for. But they don't seem to understand that payment needs to have value added, and "we're doing weird coding stuff nobody wants" is not value added.
Somebody ought to Blaze this post. Regardless of whether or not it goes forward, Staff would see it.
I would be okay with this. I'm a semi-popular blog and I'm a Jew, you can't break my notes more than they're broken already.
Also I would encourage others who may have a "this, I would pay for" wishlist to add it here. Maybe we can make some positive change.
I would pay for those things just like you said. You, you get me.
I legitimately think separating this place from other socmed by making it more user-driven would not only make Tumblr thrive, it might also push other sites back toward not being THE ALGORITHM THE ALGORITHM THE ALGORITHM all the time.

"the world isn't kind" ok??? Much more importantly are you?????
"the world isnt kind" skill issue. I am
This is a threat
shelley's ozymandias but it's about lost websites & broken links from bygone days of internet history
look on my works ye mighty and despair [geocities link]
Say no more!
I met an admin on an antique site,
Who said: two vast and broken hyperlinks
Stand in the cyan menu. To their right,
A glitter gif of Mickey Mouse still winks,
Whose pixel smile, and endless looped delight
Tell that its maker well those passions knew
Which yet survive, stamped on this lifeless shell:
The mind that shaped them, and the hand that drew.
And on the header green, pink words appear:
My name is Ozzie Mandias LOL
This is my homepage—come pull up a chair!
Little beside remains. Round the decay
Of QuickTime music tracks, boundless and bare,
The leveled geocities stretch away.
fuckin based and also really fuckin funny, thank you FBG
Fish. Cheese. Gossip. Whores. War. The five nations lived in harmony, until one day, the war nation attacked. Unsurprisingly.
okay I'm sorry but I just have to say you are forgetting about fear, basically the most classic thing you can monger
“There are no female aliens in our game because we don’t know how to make a female version of this alien” You know that alien you just designed? That male alien? Give it a female voice actor and have characters refer to it as she. That’s it. That’s literally all you have to do
Make her shorter if you must
Make her BIGGER if you aren’t a coward
Take your male alien bodytype, make her like 4 feet taller, give her an extra set of arms and sharper teeth, and as muscular as shit.
Boom.
Give her natural camouflage and make the man like this
Make them exactly the same size and shape but different colors
Give him a huge flock of babies following him around to show off what a great lay he is
Surprise mPreganté
Exactly the same but one of them has a cool hat (you decide which)
Give her a sensible haircut for successful hunting while he has a big dumb mullet so big and dumb the food can see him coming and book it
Please just for the love of pie do not begin and end with boobs
Which genre do you want to see emulated in 5e most?
A cozy romance café au
Café au what?
whatever man, you're a fake creator. you're not playing spore, you're playing something else entirely
i made this anon in spore [2008]
next time show your face
#the shadow on the ground showing its actually in the game is the best part
it is very much in game, here’s it being attacked by bees
you guys can’t do this to me.
We also figured out—the hard way—that the ancients probably cut each layer of linen to the proper shape before gluing them together. For our first linothorax, we glued together 15 layers of linen to form a one centimeter-thick slab, and then tried to cut out the required shape. Large shears were defeated; bolt cutters failed. The only way we were ultimately able to cut the laminated linen slab was with an electric saw equipped with a blade for cutting metal. At least this confirmed our suspicion that linen armor would have been extremely tough. We also found out that linen stiffened with rabbit glue strikes dogs as in irresistibly tasty rabbit-flavored chew toy, and that our Labrador retriever should not be left alone with our research project.
I love this in every way possible. What is it from? Where can I read more?
The pitfalls of experimental archaeology and puppies.

holy shit read the article. it’s short but wild
We found that even more of a threat than rain was one’s own sweat on a hot day. So, yes, it does need waterproofing, both inside and out. We did a number of experiments along those lines, and found that rubbing a block of beeswax over all sides of the armor provided nice waterproofing. It also makes the armor smell nice! When you wear it for a couple hours, your own body heat softens the glue a bit and makes it conform to your body shape, so it is much more comfortable to wear than rigid types of armor. Our reconstructions weighed about 10 pounds–about one third the weight of bronze armor that would provide the same degree of protection.
Honey i gotta go to war… not to smell my bee armor or hang with the boys or anything no.. uhh we need to uh do war things?
#i've definitely read this before and i've probably reblogged it before but like.#no one in this thread is mentioning that they actually shot someone with an actual arrow in this armor.#they were like 'we've got to test this in practice' and instead of getting a mannequin or something they had an actual person wear it.
They what?
from the article:
While all of this mayhem (both scientifically controlled and free-form) convinced us that our linothorax was ancient-battlefield-ready, we still felt compelled to try a real-life scenario, so Scott donned the armor and Greg shot him. And while we had confidence in our armor, our relief was still considerable when the arrowhead stuck and lodged in the armor’s outer layers, a safe distance away from flesh.
a good life-size mannequin is expensive but i guarantee it would've cost way less than they were spending on all that linen.
Academics are just like that.
