hey happy valentines, behold: the (american) COVER REVEAL FOR MY NEW BOOK ✨🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🎩☕
it's a queer regency rom-com out later this year and IF you’re based in US/ Canada, it's now available to pre-order
If you're somewhere else - more news coming soon. in an exciting win for the gay agenda, this book is actually getting its own UK (ireland australia etc) version and some translations.
---
INSPIRATION / VIBES:
tbh I'm an Austen nerd / fan of repressed period drama LONGING
been wanting to do a fun vaguely chaotic comic version with a n-b transmasc love interest since literally 2018
the inherent absurd comedy (tragicomedy?) of people assuming you're cis or straight despite literally all the evidence
got very into pre-victorian queer history, generally v interested in real histories of marginalised people that rarely get taught in schools
decolonial undertones... come for the lovely fun queer romance, stay for the gateway ideas deconstructing the regency genre...

guys, it is free Palestine until Palestine is free. It isn’t only ceasefire now, it is also end apartheid, occupation state now. It is free Palestine, completely, until Palestine is truly free.
I am super against light pollution, and have been for decades
but I am also super annoyed by the way it's framed as "without light pollution you can see how beautiful the night sky is" way more prominently than it's framed as "hey, did you ever stop to think of how much energy/resources/money are literally wasted by having so much light shine up into the sky?"
so people get the idea that light pollution can only be remedied by eliminating all night-time light, which would make being outside at night very inconvenient, instead of by making night-time light shine only on the ground where, y'know, the people who need it are
The mildest example of what OP's talking about in Dunedin, Aotearoa:
This is just with the streetlamp equivalent of using lampshades. Imagine what truly directional city lights could achieve?
Reblogging this again cause light pollution actually have negative health affects on humans and wildlife. We weren't meant to live in a world constantly bathed in light.
"college is the best years of your life" "college is for meeting new people and expanding your mind" wrong. college is for discovering new types of grief. also the timeloop
To give some perspective: Chariots were invented circa 2000 BC and were the fastest form of transportation known to man for around 3800 years until trains in the 1800′s. Then 100 years later we were flying, and 66 years after that we were on the Moon.
White Feminism
I wish more white people - and white women especially - would get over their white fragility and truly understand how words and actions like these do more harm than good to women of color. They need to stop making everything about themselves and catering to other whites women like women of color don’t exist.
It's a lot healthier to go for a daily walk than to sign up for a gym membership you won't be using because you hate that kind of exercise. It's a lot healthier to eat a frozen meal than to skip a meal because you were too tired to cook something healthy. It's a lot healthier to take a quick shower than to procrastinate an elaborate routine for days. Don't aim so high that you won't be hitting anything!
“Many people seem to think it foolish, even superstitious, to believe that the world could still change for the better. And it is true that in winter it is sometimes so bitingly cold that one is tempted to say, ‘What do I care if there is a summer; its warmth is no help to me now.’ Yes, evil often seems to surpass good. But then, in spite of us, and without our permission, there comes at last an end to the bitter frosts. One morning the wind turns, and there is a thaw. And so I must still have hope.”
— Vincent Van Gogh
“If I am worth anything later, I am worth something now. For wheat is wheat, even if people think it is a grass in the beginning.”

My grandmother talks about how growing up in Belfast, Ireland, British soldiers would raid the local Irish people's houses, steal from them, smash up their homes or burn them out, beat up or kill or imprison the men, rape the women, and then justify their actions by saying the local people were harbouring IRA terrorists and illegal weapons stores even though they weren't. Any time the British committed an act of violence against the Irish it was the same excuse.
And every time Israel blows up a school, hospital, refugee camp killing hundreds of civilians in the process and justifies it by saying they were harbouring Hamas it makes me think of that. Colonialism never changes.
i love you people in my phone i know the seasonal depression is setting in so we need to hold eachother like a litter of kittens in a cardboard box okay...its important
Five minutes a day. If you have five minutes of peace, it's bearable. When I hold the door open for a kid at a convenience store and the kid says, 'Thank you! That makes me happy for seven seconds. When I open my eyes in the morning and remember it's Saturday, that makes me happy for ten seconds. Fill up five minutes a day like that. That's how I survive.
Hiba Kamal Abu Nada was killed on 20 October 2023, by an airstrike on her home in Khan Yunis in southern Gaza. She was 32.
I hate it when people are like “get out of your comfort zone” literally every single thing I do in my life feels like me getting out of my comfort zone
