Dick and Donna talking on the phone all the time actually just makes Donna's death 10x sadder. Dick has the impulse to call her like he normally would, but then he remembers that she's gone, and he shoves his feelings just like he shoves his phone in his pocket: down, down, down. Then Roy keeps calling Dick over and over, and Dick hates it because he wishes that just once it would be Donna leaving him a message on his answering machine instead.

Roy wants to talk about it. Roy wants to deal with it together. Dick wants to cry because he wants to tell Donna that Roy keeps blowing up his phone, and he wants to hear her tell him, "Then talk to him, dummy, and he'll stop calling you!" But he'll never get to hear her say that, so he lets his phone ring and ring until it doesn't ring anymore. And Dick might hate the silence even more than he hates the ringing, because with the ringing, he could at least pretend that Donna might be behind one of the calls.

being an avid peter parker and dick grayson fan is so hard because of how they've both been so mellowed out and sanded down to hardly the point of recognition by their adaptation counterparts and/or fanon.

they made a 'smol bean 🥺' out of peter and an airheaded himbo out of dick and in doing so have stripped them both of their major flaws and points of emotional substance. it feels like this weird "correctness" they're pushing onto these characters possibly because they're so popular even among non comic fans so they can't be mean or make terrible decisions or show any inch of personhood outside of the strictly established margins of the archetypes that the general public has latched on to.
