“just torrent it! just pirate it! streaming sites exist!” (proceeds to give absolutely zero clear instructions on how to do any of these things)
hokay well first you need adblock and antivirus, obvs.
I can’t give you much advice on streaming. if you want to stream, you can probably just google it and dig around a bit till you find a site. I don’t know a lot of good streaming sites because it’s a hassle and I don’t like doing it, but there’s less risk of viruses or your isp getting pissy. So if you don’t mind extra legwork for less risk, streaming is fine.
Now, if you want to torrent, there’s some initial set up but after that getting what you’re after is a lot easier.
Step 1: first you need a torrenting program.
there’s a lot of options but right now I use Tixati. Go ahead and get that installed. This is what allows you to download torrents.
Step 2: Now you probably want a VPN. This helps prevent the previously mentioned ‘isp gettin pissy’ problem. some torrents will have trackers that tattle on you to Comcast or whoever provides your internet. A VPN disguises your ip address to make it harder for them to figure out where you are. In my experience, if you’re just torrenting the occasional game or movie and not like, guzzling terrabytes of just-released content, the worst that will happen is your isp will shut your internet off till you call them and apologize and make some excuse about your neighbor’s kids using the wifi. they can’t actually do shit besides that. But if you want to avoid the hassle, use a VPN and torrent smart. Only get torrents from trusted sources, avoid brand new or leaked content which is more likely to be being watched, and don’t leave the actual torrent file (not the downloaded content but the torrent itself) sitting on your computer longer than necessary.
For VPNs, there’s a lot of options. Tunnelbear is generally well respected service. But it’s not free, and I don’t think something that heavy duty is really necessary for casual torrenting. If you’re messin around in the dark web and shit or torrenting on a daily basis, maybe. But for casual use, I get by with the free VPn built into the Opera web browser. Important note- Opera is basically the lite version of Chrome, it’s owned by google. Companies can buy their way through its security. It’s not perfect. But like I said, if you’re being smart and only torrenting occasionally, it’s a decent free option.
Step 3: Now that you’ve got your torrent program installed and your VPN running, it’s time to pick a torrent site!
The Pirate Bay is the oldest and best option when it comes to torrenting sites, imo. In particular because 1. you can sort results by number of seeders (the more seeds, the faster it downloads) 2.they make it easy to identify trusted sources. Look for the pink skull next to the link. These torrents will generally be safer than any others.
Unfortunately, pbay is also the most well known pirate site, so it goes down pretty often. if you don’t feel like waiting for it to come back up, you can check out other sites like Kickass Torrents or EZTV. If you find one or all of those is always “down” it may be that your isp is blocking your access to the site. Google a proxy, most of these sites have several, and use a vpn.
So, first lets search for gomens on pb.
Bam. There you go. Pick the third one down. The others have more seeds, but the pink skull means this one is safer.
click the green ‘get this torrent’ magnet link, and it’ll ask if it can open Tixati. Let it do its thing. Tixati will take a minute to download the basic info about the file, then ask your permission to start.
you can see the files included in the torrent there, and where they will be saved. If it all looks good, hit start and wait. Depending on your internet speed, it may take a while. When it’s done, hit stop and remove to get rid of the torrent file and go enjoy your content. And that’s it! You’re done! It’s much less complicated than it seems.
Have fun, torrent responsibly, support unions and Fuck Amazon.
I’m an avid pirate myself and I use rarbg.to, there’s a lot of rumors that pirate bay is a honeypot so I’m a lot wary of it and really do not use it without a VPN get a VPN!!!!!
