if someone lets fiction affect them to the point they think bad things in fiction are okay in real life because it’s portrayed as such in fiction, then chances are that—with or without the fiction they consume—they’re already troubled and they need help. but their inability to separate fiction from reality is not the fault of the creators of said fiction.

artists and writers are not their audiences’ parents or babysitters. it’s not our job or responsibility to hold our audiences’ hands and teach them the differences between fiction and reality. it’s not our job or responsibility to censor ourselves just because someone somewhere doesn’t like what we create when we never force anybody to consume the things we create to begin with.

I feel like some people need to realize that the world does not revolve around them. there will always be the things that they dislike, and there’s nothing they can do about that. so they can either ignore the existence of said things like most sane and mature adults do, or they can make themselves miserable and turn themselves into bullies because of it.

If playing a game, or reading something with anything violent or taboo, made normal people do those things

If someone, for example reads a fic where a character tortures someone, and decides to torture someone IRL. That person was never mentally stable in the first place!

While yes, we can become what we behold, a normal, reasonable person can decide "no I'd rather not commit vehicular manslaughter because I ran over someone in GTA"

And yes, what a writer believes in and endorses can be in or seep into their writing, at the same time, they can very easily write about stuff they don't endorse. Hell! even I do it in the same story!

I'll use my (in progress) fic as an example

In my fic, one of the main themes is redemption, and the fact that people have to want to be redeemed and will likely need help to be a better person, to be redeemed. And that you should help those who need it.

Which I believe in and think people should do.

However, at the same time, the MC of the fic has been turned into a giant shapeshifting spider and starts eating people (mainly because his brain got fucked up in the transition but I digress)

Which i very much do not endorses or want people to start doing!

More Wings of Fire Rainwing Headcannons and thoughts:

Headcannon: Like Sandwings, Rainwings are able to handle very warm and humid temperatures. But Rainwings are MUCH more suseptibal to the cold. Whenever it gets too cold, Rainwings naturally become slightly come clingy for physical contact. Glory is the exception, as she never grew up in the Rainforest, meaning she already managed to adapt to colder Temperatures. Of course, she can still get cold, she just isnt reallt clingy.

Thought/semi headcannon: Glory and Tamarin are pratically the Anti-Stereotypical rainwing. Both are not lazy, and are very dedicated to their works and getting it done instead of lazing around or simply playing around instead like Kinkajou likely would have while living in the Rainforest. Alongside that, the two would likely have different views on trust. While most would be “friends until proven otherwise”, Glory would have Distrust until proven trustworthy. Tamarin would still be openly nice, but paying attention to the dragon, making sure their worth being kind to.

Headcannon: If Tamarins self confidence gets extremely low, she starts to overwork herself. She has gotten much better at keeping her self confidence high over the years while still not being egotistical, so nobody usually has to worry for her. It would really have only been a prominent problem before the books took place, when she was still very young in the rainforest. Likely if Tamarin also starts to negate sleep and rest to work, Kinkajou will FORCE Tamarin to rest, going as far as laying right on top of Tamarin to stop her from going anywhere.

Headcannon: Before those two had been sent off to Jade Mountian Academy, Glory somewhat acted like a Mother figure to Kinkajou and Tamarin. Not like an ACTUAL mother, but checking up on them when she has the chance. She was around them enough to somewhat rub off on them, with Kinkajou and Tamarin starting to get more of a backbone, and even giving some sarcastic remarks if agitated enough just like Glory would.

Headcannon: Kinkajou is actually a little smarter than she even knows, and likely also has ADHD. She clearly doesnt like staying still for too long, but she does seem to have a good memory, as she remembered everything about what Tamarin has said about her time in the Royal Garden. Kinkajou also seems aware of her environment, as she was observant enough in Book 10 to use the Environment to her advantage and use the poor state of the Night Kingdom to get a stray boulder to knock out Chameleon.
