i have a file or folder on my pc that i want to share with other people. let's call it gayshit.mp3
unfortunately gayshit.mp3 is 750mb and im not paying for discord nitro so i need another way to send it
i put it into qbittorrent and it makes a torrent file. this is essentially a very small file that points to gayshit.mp3 so other computers can find it. kinda like a treasure map
i send this tiny file to my friend, who loads it into qbittorrent. their computer takes a moment to find mine over the vast expanse of cyberspace and then (as long as my pc is running and the file is still where it should be), it gets copied from my hard drive to theirs
this is the cool part: if somebody else loads that tiny file, they can download it from both of us. if i'm offline but my friend is on, the third person can still get it. this also means that if two people have separate halves of the file, they can download the other half from each other. as long as some combination of people have the pieces between them, they can all have the whole thing.
crucially this does not require a server!!! you can just upload the file to a few people and as long as they keep it, it's still accessible. as long as somebody, somewhere is still connected, it's available forever. the only way it goes away is if everybody disconnects from it.
My co-teacher came up with an idea. She said to me: “I’m going to project a Shakespearean sonnet on the board that you have never seen before. They are going to watch you struggle through it, and they are going to see what it takes to authentically annotate something to attempt to understand it”.
This was a good idea because it targeted a pitfall of my teaching: that I already know the answer— a predetermined answer I want my students to come to. Therefore, when I ask the class a question, they are aware that there is an answer in my head I want them to arrive at. This method can stifle students’ voice.
So, I stood at the front of the classroom that day, feeling exposed, sight-reading Shakespearean sonnets. With most of the sonnets, I, with the help of the class, could only get to about 75% understanding and accuracy at best. But my confusion — my apparent struggle and frustration in understanding each new sonnet— was key for my students. They felt free to posit their interpretations and even to disagree with me.
In each session, a student shared a thought or possibility that not only I had failed to see but was also ultimately accurate. One student couldn’t wipe the smile off her face when she figured out a metaphor that stumped both me and my co-teacher. “This was fun”, she and her classmate said to each other when the bell rang.

Land uniis grow from the smallest little creatures to sometimes behemoths, even 3 meters (10ft) as Architects (post adulthood).
Most of their childhood, however, they spend being around the bean to 1,5m.
As larvae, they are often carried around by their parents in the mouth, shaded from the sun, and kept warm. After their final larva molt, they emerge covered in fuzz. In most cases, this fluff is pure white and protects a body with very little pigmentation.
These fairies get to learn very slowly, but they grow fast under the parent's restles care.
A child is one who can speak for itself, even if in simple terms. They can walk, run, and eat food on their own. They remain fluffy with light eyes that make their pupils a lot more visible. Kids also have a lot of orange in their skin, even in their fluff at times. This gradually disappears, starting age 14 to 16, but some adults keep hints of it (there are land uniima groups that have regular occurrence of orange in adults).
Lands don't have development as consistent as mammals. In some cases, a child starts losing their white coat and characteristic colors in their 13th year, while others may take another 4 to begin. Though this gap is even bigger in aging into adulthood.
The norm is to lose all the child traits and gain a deeper, more flexible voice in their early 20s. However, there are rare cases where an adult doesn't biologically emerge until closer to or even in their 30s. Sometimes, this is interpreted as an early sign that one will be an architect later in life - meaning they cross the usual life expectancy point and keep growing, rarely living as long as 200 years.
Other times, this is misreading someone's development, as they have a harder time adjusting to voice or have a developmental problem. Resulting in them being seen as a "mumbling" pseudoadult.
Most often, however, the slowed-down changes are from stress, both psychological and physiological. While environmental changes can sometimes speed up the aging process.
When it comes to the ages of maturity/majority, this depends a lot on a given culture.
In some places, the younger adults and pre-adults are allowed to have relationships, but they will not be seen as legitimate compared to those of older adults.
Age and size are attractive to lands. It shows resistance to the effects of aging and sickness (which is always scary in a world with smaller, closed communities, more likely to develop unique branches of illness).
In some places, the hand of a parent is over their child even up to their 40s, which one can't even be confident to reach with the land unii medicine and technologies.
Other places don't have an age of majority and are built around ability. One only pays their tax once they manage to. But only then do they get to participate in different parts of society.
And well, anything in between.
Mixed land and sky societies show more consistency, having a need to adapt in similar ways to accommodate differences.

I have been a sheep caretaker for like two days and already I'm like. Wow. I get it.
I get why these were some of the earliest mammals to ever be domesticated. They look up to humans with this sort of dumb but all at once innocent and pure and trusting expression. They're happy to see you. They follow you around. They like to be rubbed under their chins. Maybe its just some latent Scottish highland shepherd DNA I still have in me but I look at my sheep charges and suddenly I see why the love of God for humanity is so often described as a shepherd and his sheep. I'd fight a wolf for these guys. I'd go way the Hell out of my way for them. I'd carry their young for miles on my own back.
