Does anybody want to be Pen Pals? I recently started doing it with a friend of mine and Iāve really enjoyed it and would love to get into it more. I love handwritten letters and pretentious wax seals so if youāre into that, let me know!

Why arenāt there more cottagecore booksā¦š© like specifically lesbian cottagecore books. Thereās definitely an audience for it
Any recommendations?
Posts that make you physically ill to read
I really can't get over the John Steinbeck one. His books with settings in The Great Depression were written during The Great Depression, and he would have been 27 years old on Black Tuesday. That's like if I wrote a piece of fiction set in the present day and someone called it "COVID-19 fanfiction"
WHERE THE FUCK IS THE OVERABUNDANT LOVE OF CIRCE by Madeline Miller??!?!?!???
This glorious piece of literature is constantly overshadowed by song of Achilles. I am not saying it is undeserving of the love but both deserve attention!! I see both recommended everywhere but where is the fan art?? Where are the memes?? WHERE ARE THE APPRECIATION POSTS?!
This fucking book is the beautiful love child of a cottage core witch and gay Greek mythology nerd are you fucking kidding me.
This story is about a goddess who had to struggle to find her strength and powers within herself. She had to overcome others view of her to prove her value. She is relatable, funny, sexy and a fucking witch what more do you want?? She learns to be cunning and intelligent among the other gods who are blinded by their arrogance.
I want playlists inspired by her! I want fan art of her garden with her lioness by her side! I want HermĆØs and Circe couple memes! I want long ass discussion posts about this book!! Where are you??!?
I understand this book isnāt trending anymore but if anything that makes me more confused. I was expecting to find fandom material from the past two years but no! Nothing! Nowhere!
Because itās in Ojai, California where the weatherās always nice, Bartās Books is an open air bookstore.
Itās open until sunset every day, but that doesnāt mean you canāt buy a book when theyāre closed.Ā
Itās a lovely place to browse or sit and read.Ā
Isnāt this lovely?
And, your dog is welcome to browse, too.Ā
You can spend hours here.
Cookbooks are in an actual kitchen from an old house.
Winston canāt believe what he found, heās been looking for that book for ages!
And, like any good bookstore, they have a cat. This is Pygmy (aka Pigley).Ā

- To Kill a Mockingbird
Iāve started reading To Kill a Mockingbird because apparently Iām the only child who didnāt have to read this in school. Iām glad because now thereās a good chance I wonāt loathe the thought of this book by the end.

Well a 48 hour power outage in a snow storm has made me very productive with my reading.
I finished The Little White horse by Elizabeth Goudge. I watched and loved the movie as a kid and I can say they mauled the movie and the book was better. Despite the fact that she ends up marrying her cousin and having ten kids, it was an enjoyable kids book.
I also finished the Fellowship of the Ring and started Two Towers. It was wonderful as always
I started reading Pride and Prejudice but it was late, I had no light and that print is VERY small for such convoluted grammar, so I didnāt get very far.
Iām hoping to read more classics this year that Iāve been wanting to read for ages. So far Iāve got a strong start on 2020! I donāt read as much as most āreadersā do but I donāt want to pressure myself and just read when I feel like it and read what I want.

The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro Review...
I give this 1 out of 5 stars... buckle up
Oh god this book. This painfully quaint and politely awful book. This books is so posh and British, the characters would murder you and then say, āJolly good chap, sorry old boy. Top of the morning.ā
Basic premise: Fantasy version of England is under fog of memory loss and no one can remember past a few hours. the protagonists Beatrice and Axl are the old couple who leave their valley to find their son who left them many years ago. The reader is reminded MANY times that their son is waiting for them and they must go to him. Every new person they meet along the way, they have to tell they are going to their son who is waiting for them.
Stuff happens and they end up traveling with a stereotypical, perfect hero named Winston, and a boy named Edwin whose only characteristic is he hears the voice of his mother who abandoned him and that heāll be a warrior one day.
King Arthur exists in this world but he is dead and one of his knights is still charged with slaying the dragon. Thatās about all there is to this story.
My Thoughts:Ā
The story wasnāt awful or poorly done. It would be a good simple story for people who are new to fantasy or who donāt like high fantasy.Ā
I didnāt enjoy the lack of interesting mystery or original storytelling. I didnāt connect with any of the characters and I couldnāt relate to the story or characters.Ā
This story had zero tension or excitement but I was so on edge and stressed reading this because I was convinced that there was going to be a massive twist that ripped this quaint little story apart... but it never came. it ended exactly how I anticipated with no suprises. The dragon was slain by the hero, the couple survived and were on their way to their sons grave... btw yeah heās dead and this was revealed in the most boring bit of dialogue.Ā
The characters couldāve compensated for the lack of an interesting story but they remained flat, dull and predictable. You will find no gray morality much less any evil or twisted characters. Itās just lovely, perfumed, unyielding, POLITENESS. I never thought I could hate a wholesome and cute old couple but I just couldnāt deal with the fact that these characters were so unnervingly nice it was creepy...Ā
I could go on nitpicking and I know this sounds like I hate nice stories but I was so bored and was waiting for a twist, I finished this story out of spite.Ā
