Hurricane Sandy is making me feel all patriotic, this man's telling the storm to bring it on. AMERICA, FUCK YEAH!
Ooh, heaven is through a straw: one Betterfinger Shake split two-ways topped off with a Black & White Cookie at Café Blossom, New York.
The Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association (VOKRA) are in 44th place and need to be in at least 30th to be eligible for a huge grant for their TNR. Thank you everyone who votes to help these cats and kittens in need!
Boy did I hit the motherload at Vinnie's Pizzeria. Garlic knots, 'Ham & Cheese' Wheel & Mac Attack Pizza - yes that is macaroni, 'ground beef' & hot sauce on there.
I can't seem to stay away from Dun-Well Doughnuts. This addiction has to stop...doesn't it?

What if you turned on the news and this was happening in real life? What would you do?!
Happy Hump Day!
Snacks...they're convenient, they're vegan junk food and I love 'em! You can find even more of these gems at http://www.peta.org/living/vegetarian-living/accidentally-vegan.aspx and http://www.petakids.com/accvegan.asp I'd also like to mention Oreos, Fudgee-Os, Skittles, Swedish Fish and Green & Black's Dark Chocolate but bear in mind that product ingredients may vary from country to country. Share the wealth if you know of some rad snacks that aren't on these lists or dime out any foes that have been mentioned but don't belong here!

Every night the future hubby and I are treated to sweet sunsets over Toronto. This one looked almost apocalyptic at the time, as though the city was on fire! It was rad!
Follow this blog, you will love it on your dashboard
Are you one of those vegans that misses jerky?
Unfortunately I am but not what it's traditionally made from, that's grody to the max. Fortunately I found this at none other than Kingâs CafĂ©, Kensington Market, Toronto:
After a few seconds of trying to work out what it was, the kindest gentleman popped over and offered us a free sample. I realised there and then it's frickin' jerky! I had to double check to make sure this sweet gent wasn't tryin' to play me and the ingredients confirmed it was vegan, happy days! We had sampled the sweet version with the green sticker and decided to purchase the spicy version with the red sticker in the top right-hand corner. Here's a piece of the action:
Incredible, smokey and sweet with the perfect amount of spice and barbeque with a chewy texture that would rival any meat-based jerky. It's impressive stuff as it got the seal of approval from my jerk loving ( no, I'm not referring to myself) carnivorous fiancĂ©. Just when I think Kingâs CafĂ© can't get any better it turns out it practically has an entire freakin' veggie supermarket nestled in it's restaurant. There was everything from salmon steaks, tuna steaks, king prawns to ready meals and everything in between, even mutton! Two varieties of mutton! Nearly all of the products are vegan and all of them are vegetarian, coinciding with the restaurant menu. The prices are great too, my jerky cost $5.99 including tax. Given the vast abundance of choice I reckon I'll be doing my mock meat shopping there from now on as the variety in the supermarkets near me is modest to say the least! That being said, if you know of any rad supermarkets or unassuming uber veggie friendly stores tucked away like the one in Kingâs CafĂ©, holler at me and let all the good folks of Toronto know!
Food wizardry at it's finest at King's Café!
Back in my meat-eating days, Chinese food was my favourite and it still is. However, in those days it was duck to be precise; plum, orange, peking, you name it I loved it. I'm happy to say those days are long gone but my love of eating 'duck' isn't. I've discovered the Holy Grail at King's CafĂ©, located in Kensington Market, Toronto.Â
This gluten faux duck or 'phuck' as my better half likes to call it, is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! I strongly recommend the Crispy Veggie Duck with BBQ sauce, it's our favourite item on the menu. I'm not too fussed about it resembling meat as I simply appreciate the chewy texture and homemade BBQ sauce goodness but meat-eaters will appreciate how meat-like it is. I had one sat opposite me and he couldn't believe how duckesque it was; smell, texture, appearance, it's truly difficult to tell the difference. I love how it's even got a crispy skin! Just like the real thing. I also tried the Veggie Duck with Plum Sauce, it came on a bed of...well I'm not too sure what it was. It's white with purple freckles, looks like a fruit but kind of has the texture of a potato, if anyone can help me out with this I'd love to know as it rocked! This 'duck' was in a sliced breast style while the BBQ 'duck' was more wing-like. The breast was also pretty convincing, especially visually, the sauce was sweet (although not as sweet as I'm used to in the UK) gingery and just downright lovely, the orange slice was a tasty touch too! But, the BBQ 'duck' wins unanimously.
Additionally, we had the Veggie Shrimp Dumpling Dim Sum which were chewy balls of goodness (I don't care how that sounds) filled with finely chopped veggies, including mushrooms and baby sweet corn and spices which nodded towards shrimp flavour. Also, the Soy Drumsticks which were juicy, had a subtle smokey, BBQ flavour and a very fine crispy coating. I adored how cute they looked, they were presented on a dinky wooden stick so you actually held them like the traditional chicken drumstick! The accompanying ginger dipping sauce was less cute though, the ginger was too harsh and overpowered the flavour of the drumstick. However, their online menu states they come with plum sauce so perhaps the ginger was a mistake. Personally, I think their BBQ sauce would be downright righteous with these drumsticks. I honestly believe I'm addicted to this place, I already know what I'm ordering next weekend:
Sweet 'N' Sour Bites with Rice and Barbeque Seitan with Rice, yeah buddy! And some of that divine Crispy BBQ Veggie Duck of course (I don't need it I just really really want it!)Â
The value of this joint is excellent as is the laid back atmosphere. It's truly chilled out and the service is fantastic. We were immediately greeted with a glass of cold water complete with a slice of lime which was kept topped-up throughout our stay without the need to ask. It's worth mentioning for those of you who enjoy a few brewskies with your meal, King's Café doesn't serve alcohol. I respect and like this as it makes a nice change and there are plenty of bars in Toronto to enjoy after your meal if you're that way inclined. Instead, they offer a variety of Teas which are always fun to try and soy shakes. Also, nearly everything is vegan! The only items I've spotted that aren't vegan are a couple of desserts and this is stated using symbols on their menu. The only thing I don't like about King's Café is that they don't deliver, d'oh!
Time To Keep F-F-F-Fresh!
Note To Self: I need their jackets!
With highs of 31ÂșC last month in Toronto y'gotta keep fresh, no-one expects you to be as fresh as these guys âČ but you can bloody well try or you could end up like this sucker âŒÂ
Ever since I discovered there's a possible link between breast cancer and the daily rolling/spraying of chemicals onto your armpits, I've been using a natural salt crystal deodorant:
It comes in many forms by many different brands, here is what CrystalŸ claims & in my experience all the brands do this:
What Makes Crystal Deodorant Unique?
Ordinary deodorants merely cover up odor with unnecessary and unwanted chemicals. Made from natural mineral salts, CrystalÂź deodorants do one simple thing that make makes them better than the rest: they neutralize bacteria to prevent body odor â even after strenuous activity.
Hypoallergenic
Gentle on skin
Dries instantly
Never tested on animals
Recommended by cancer treatment centers nationwide
Contains No Harmful Chemicals
The one I'm currently using also claims to last 24 hours and I'm ashamed to admit this but...it can actually last 48 hours! Although, this can be a bit hit and miss with my smellier other half so it's worth mentioning you gotta massage the salt stick into your skin for best results. They can be purchased at any health store, I just got mine at Evergreen Natural Foods for $4.99 Canadian, a bargain considering how long it will last. As unexciting as deodorant may or may not be, I love these little dudes. They actually look like crystal, so you can pretend you're deodorizing with a diamond if you want to feel fancy (and I do) you simply roll it onto your pits just like the traditional kind without the sticky residue or the irritation they'd cause to my sensitive skin. Do this after a bath or shower while your pits are wet or wet the tip of the crystal before use. I've also tried the liquid crystal deodorant that rolls on but I personally didn't get on with this as I'd start to whiff a bit by the end of the day. Also, these babies can last up to a year, especially if you pat them dry after every use or don't drop them onto a tiled floor like my other half did!
