Police trampling on the flowers left in tribute to Sarah Everard after she was murdered by one of their own. An image speaks a thousand words.
@ayeforscotland
“Arrests today are protests tomorrow.”
I’ve been supportive of lockdowns for the good of public health, and for the most part I still am because it’s clear that they’ve worked.
However, the UK is also a country of curtain-twitching bastards who’ll clipe on their neighbour for fuck all - and this has led to a certain proportion of the country cheering the police on to stop any form of mass gathering.
Would I have liked the police to make more arrests when rangers fans rioted in George Square and destroyed memorial benches? Yes, but they were rioting.
The people (majority of which were women) who attended the vigil were masked and holding flowers. There was only one approach the police could have taken, and that was assisting in making sure the event could be attended in a socially distanced way.
Instead they started grabbing at people, forcing them to the ground, making arrests. It genuinely looked like they wanted revenge for these women daring to hold a vigil for a woman who was murdered by one of their own fucking colleagues in the Metropolitan Police.
ACAB? Yeah, they prove it time and time again.
well shit
Ah yes, the profit motive, always incentivising the best outcomes.
i bet those colors only shrimp can see suck major ass
jealousy isn’t the way bro
The shrimp aren’t gonna have sex with you.
you take that back right fucking now
Unfortunate news… scientists have discovered that shrimp do not see “extra colors”.
We thought that they did because they have 12 different molecules for photoreceptors, whereas humans have only 3. BIG difference, right??
Nope. Turns out that they simply do not have the mental wherewithal to blend, and so needed a separate receptor for each color. The human brain adds color emissions together to create a singular representative color, like reverse engineered printing. Shrimp can’t do that. They can’t take light emitting “green” and light emitting “red” and come back with “yellow”, like we do. They have to have a receptor for yellow, and are relatively horrible at distinguishing shades of colors.
So at the end of the day, not only do shrimp not have “extra colors”… they see less than we do. Shrimp can’t see the fake colors :(
babe wake up new shrimp color drama dropped
okay but they can see with polarised light which we can’t and people are only just now making things that can sort-of give us a clue about what that might look like and anyway we can’t really see it like they do, so like for those people despairing of the ‘forbidden shrimp vision’ having been lost they still have that! it’s just kinda… well
forbidden perpendicular wiggle light vision instead??????

Hey yes it's me again, reminding yall to SUPPORT CONTENT CREATORS and REBLOG ART AND WRITING :)
because appearently people here forgot that the ones who post original content would like to be supported. (and not because we're selfish, but because CREATING ORIGINAL CONTENT IS DIFFICULT AND TAKES TIME, and not receiving support is really demotivating. )
Now take a look at these.
The notes i used to get some months ago:
And the notes i get now:
People literally stopped reblogging art. (and tumblr hiding our posts and not suggesting them to other people SURELY DOESN'T HELP😀) Which makes me wonder.
WHY TF AREN'T PEOPLE REBLOGGING ORIGINAL CONTENT ANYMORE?
Reblogging is the only way you can help artists and writers to get the stuff they post seen by others, and it lets us understand that people care about what we do. Consider it like... giving a tip to the artist: they make original content, and if you really like it, you reblog it, helping them and also making them happy :). (Also if people don't reblog, small artists will never have the occasion to shine so PLEASE do it.)
Also, Liking a post is nice, yeah, but unfortunately it won't get the post anywhere.
So. If you like an artist/writer and wish to support them, LIKE but also REBLOG, it takes two seconds to click that green arrow button and share something with your followers and people should learn again how to do that.

Hey @abcsofadhd did you solve this and if so could you share how, please?
To be honest, no, lol. I slept at 7 am yesterday cause I started a new book and couldn’t put it down.
Getting myself to go to sleep still isn’t easy. Going to sleep is boring, just lying there doing nothing.
That being said, while I can only get myself to go to sleep at 2 am normally, I don’t need to distract myself till I pass out anymore.
⠀
There are a few different things which helped:
- Working on my depression and anxiety so I didn’t hate being alone with my thoughts.
- Giving myself things to look forward to the next day, so it didn’t feel like a total drag letting tomorrow happen.
- Not to start/ do something, I know I wouldn’t be able to put down for hours and hours. I am usually good about this but I failed yesterday, hence starting a new book right before bed.
⠀
The last two are related. If I’m not looking forward to tomorrow, I wouldn’t wanna sleep. I’d want it to be today for as long as possible.
(The way I actually fall asleep is to put something in the background. Nothing thats super interesting but background noise (like rain noises), which usually conks me out within half hour).
Having something to watch or listen to while you drift off can be helpful, too.

For anyone who doesn't know what's going on in the UK right now
A young woman named Sarah Everard was abducted and murdered by a cop while walking home
Tonight women planned to hold a peaceful vigil in her memory using the hashtags #reclaimthenight and #reclaimthestreets
Police responded by dragging women away and arresting them using excessive force and destroying flowers and items left as a memorial for Sarah
And oh yeah, on Monday a new bill is set to go throw that gives police more powers to disrupt protests 🙃
Police are claiming that they were attempting to disperse the crowd because group gatherings are currently illegal due to COVID restrictions
HOWEVER the organisers of this event attempted to work with the police during the planning stages in order to make the vigil COVID safe and were outright refused
It's true that a lot of attendants were not adhering to social distancing, but this was because the event planners weren't able to legally plan and hire volunteers
Not to mention as the police closed in on the crowd, any social distancing became impossible as the protesters were pushed together and penned in as police were picking off those who didn't move

Anger grows after vigil for Sarah Everard is stopped despite court ruling on right to demonstrate

Shrimp Colors Are a Lie
Well, lie is a bit of a strong word, but scientists have known since 2014 that those special colors that mantis shrimp can see actually Aren’t A Thing.
Mantis shrimp (which aren’t a shrimp but a “stomatopod” which are more closely related to krill) have 12 types of color receptors in their eyes compared to our measly 3 receptors. We used to think this meant they could see a whole range of dazzling colors beyond our comprehension.
Some people were (rightfully) jealous.
However, it turns out that mantis shrimp probably have so many color receptors because they don’t blend colors the way we do. When you look at something purple, your red and blue receptors are strongly stimulated while your green receptors are not and your brain synthesizes this information into purple. When a mantis shrimp looks at something purple, they have a specific purple receptor that is stimulated.
Why this weird system? Probably because it is faster and more efficient. Mantis shrimp need to distinguish between prey species and react extremely quickly (some species can punch 50x faster than the blink of an eye), so they don’t have time to do the mental calculations to blend colors.
Not only is the Forbidden Shrimp Color Knowledge a sham, but mantis shrimp can actually see fewer colors than we can because they can’t distinguish as many shades between colors. They also can’t see those cursed Imaginary Colors.
