Today I wanted to talk about Kyle Bassinga. Kyle was a 21 year old man from Georgia, whose family described him as "a kind, thoughtful, and smart young man who loved nature, music, and the people around him". Kyle Bassinga was killed on February 18th 2026, just ten days after his birthday. He was found hanging from a tree in a park.

The police ruled it a suicide. The family and local community demanded an investigation. The police refused to change their ruling.

I know this website it too white for this to really go anywhere, but an understanding of the present reality of white supremacy in the United States is just so important to transfeminism here. Lynchings never stopped, white supremacy never went away, you just stopped looking.

The other day I was surfing the internet and I found this specialized painting colour wheel, it shows how real paint colours relate to each other. 

Outside: the purest/brightest colours.

Inside: naturally muted or earthy colors, like browns and ochres.

The Center: dark neutral tones used for mixing shadows.

The Lines: the lines connect colors that are opposites, if you mix them you neutralize the tone creating clean grays or browns instead of muddy puddles.

I want to share this with you because I think it is really illustrative!

I didn't like any of the designs I'd seen for the Ottawa centaurs so far, and I needed it for a background detail, so I said fuck it and made my own.

I decided to maintain the Roman angle by aping centaurs in Roman pottery, and maintain the phallic angle by positioning the hockey stick so it looked extra hung

Sometimes I wonder if "Smoking is aesthetic!" people are just really young and don't remember what it was like when smoking in public places was far more common.

(Fair disclaimer: I lost close relatives to lung cancer and pneumonia worsened by long term smoking damage, so I was never going to like it. But I'm just talking about the aesthetic.)

The yellow cigarette butts everywhere, killing wildlife and making everything messy and ugly--it was the most common litter. The way nicotine coats furniture and windows in a sickly film. The stench of it, the way if you went to a nightclub Saturday night you would wash your hair three times Sunday morning and it would still stink from absorbed smoke. The way food tastes different/worse when the smell of people smoking fills the room. What it tastes like to kiss someone who has been smoking. Ash trays full of ash and butts. The way a smoker's perspiration smells funky, and then being on a bus or train on a hot day surrounded by people smelling like that.

It was all just really grim, and every now and then I am struck with how much cleaner and more pleasant it is to be in an outdoor mall or university campus or pub, places that used to be crammed with people smoking. God, even the relative lack of cigarette butts alone is miraculous.

Aesthetic my arse. But it's easier to romanticise something reasonably rare.

When my mother redid my grandmother's room, the walls were coated in yellow and brown tar. She had to paint it with three coats of sealant before it stopped seeping through. All of my grandmother's clothes had to be thrown out as they reeked too badly to be donated.

I cannot stress enough how much everything in the world, especially restaurants, reeked of cigarettes. If you lived in a city, you couldn't get away from it. Parks, beaches, playgrounds, and any outdoor space was filled with smokers, butts, and ashes. It was awful.

telepath Ilya and psychic Shane meet at world juniors and Ilya can see every permutation of their conversation running through Shane's head all at once so that he can't tell what's Real Shane Thoughts and what's not, and Shane can't pinpoint what Ilya will possibly say or do because unbeknownst to him Ilya's actions change based on Shane's thoughts, which change based on Ilya's potential actions, creating a feedback loop of nonsense neither can parse. so they're both staring at each other like uhhhhh how do I have a normal conversation where I'm not calculating my response in a one sided game of 5d chess. and so Ilya says almost nothing and Shane shakes his hand twice, both thinking holy shit that was the worst interaction any human being has ever had. and they're immediately obsessed with each other. this of course translates into strange but very hot mind games they play on the ice and in the bedroom.

Canon-Divergence where Shane's encouraged by Yuna to start posting more on Instagram because fans want more authenticity, to feel more connected to the 'real' him. Shane rarely uses social media but he promises to post more. Even if it's something mundane like a workout selfie or his workout smoothie. Ilya doesn't really have that problem. In fact, he gets in trouble for posting too much and not knowing when to shut his mouth. Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter-- you name it, he's on it. Usually though, his fans (and Shane) love the workout mirror shots the most. But one night, when Shane and Ilya are together in secret, they take a photo of the same thing. And unbeknownst to either of them, they both decide to post the photo on their stories just minutes apart on the same day.

And then the internet and news is aghast because it means Rozanov and Hollander have been hiding a secret friendship this whole time.
