There’s no role that Big B can’t ace. He’s proven that time and again since 4 decades now. However, he is particularly exceptional with his versatile performances in a fatherly role. On his 72nd birthday, we celebrate 8 roles where we he awed us with his paternal skills.
1. The stern father- Mohabbatein
If we were asked which one is easier to crack between a stone or Amitabh in Mohabbatein, we’d say stone without a doubt. That’s how brilliantly he portrayed the character of a fierce and bitter principal and Aishwarya’s dad.
2. The rich & famous father- Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham
While his deep, baritone voice naturally lent him the dominating persona in K3G, what added to it were those exclusive suits, lavish parties, champagne toasts, polo necks, a palatial home and an aristocratic aura. If I were Shahrukh in the movie, I’d choose him over Kajol any day ;)
3. The buddy dad- Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna
Of course we love our dads, but when we watched Amitabh in this film, we all wanted that super cool, funny and stylish dad like him. He’d be your ultimate go-to for all relationship problems, he’d be the one you could party all night with, and he’d be the dude of your gang.
4. The cute, childish dad- Piku
Didn’t we all want to run our dads and hug them tightly after watching his touching performance in Piku? With his childish tantrums and nagging nature, he showed us that Big B could also be Chhota B sometimes.
5. The selfless dad- Baghban
Amitabh’s humble and affectionate role as a father who sacrificed on his dreams all his life to give his children a good future made it difficult for most of us to go through the movie without a tissue in our hands.
6. The fun loving dad- Waqt
Best friend, philosopher, guide, ATM machine, genie in a bottle and an entertainer- he was rolled into one solid dad in this film. His sarcastic one-liners, witty comebacks and jokes were a class apart.
7. The inspiring dad- Babul
It is said that a father is his son’s first hero. While Amitabh did prove that in Baabul, what he also proved that he can also be a daughter-in-law’s hero and dad. Wishful thinking ladies?
8. The heroic father- Viruddh
He was a father with a mission. Big B showed us that every gentle and caring father also has a furious, vengeful side to him if anyone tried to mess with their children.
