ready for what the next week brings...
i really appreciate seeing all the posts on my dash recently to the effect of "shutting down conversations about race/gender/minorities in fandom spaces because 'fandom is meant to be fun' is just an excuse to not think critically about the bigoted behaviors you are exhibiting". i hope that this energy carries over into the gaming sphere next pleaaseee
pokemon is a series about building Your own team and going on Your own adventure with creatures that You collect and befriend, and is designed from the ground up to be personal and immersive. i have never been able to look like myself in a pokemon game. if i bought pokemon z a today and booted it up and tried to customize myself, i would not be able to look like myself. just fuck me i guess.
ok yay

Martin Luther was a a seething little misogynistic antisemite who hated everyone and everything, but nonetheless I recall sitting at school learning about protestant reformation. I don't recall the exact details of how our teacher told this story, and now that I briefy looked it up, it's apparently considered more of a myth than an actual incident
but anyway
There was this anecdote that Martin Luther was staying up late at night translating the bible, saw the devil appear in his room, and threw his inkwell at it. The inkwell crashed into the wall, the devil disappeared but the stain remained. Even though there is a physical stain somewhere that was long presented to people as proof of the incident, apparently these days there's people arguing that the tale was more of a symbolic thing, a figure of speech about how he "chased away the devil with ink" by his writing.
It hadn't even occurred to me to interpret it that way. Everything I'd ever heard of the guy made it sound perfectly natural to me that he would both stay awake working long enough to start seeing shadow people without the aid of any kind of stimulants, and respond to seeing something of the sort with no comprehension of what the fuck that is by "attack on sight".
Maybe one day we can stop moralizing the concept of privilege & everyone will get normaler about being told they have relative privilege over other people. Like literally everyone everywhere in some way. It's fine. Being aware of it can't hurt you
There's such an endless chorus of outraged "but what if I'm poor? What if I'm autistic" and it's like. Ok. You're not getting this at all let's just start over
I feel like we really lost something when we started looking at writing as a reader-centric product meant to appeal to the desires of a specific audience rather than a writer-centric approach of someone writes whatever particular thing particular compels them/whatever weird thing the demons in their head want to talk about, and people out there who are also compelled, and/or relate, find that writing. A lot of discussions of writing really center around what readers want rather than a writer's exploration. Sometimes as a reader I don't know what I want. I click on a fic or pick up a book I'm not sure about but that looks interesting, and I love it. Reading what I expect to get is it's own joy, but we always need to expand our horizons and not get mad at creators for not always writing what we want/expect.
jack: i am trying to escape confrontation with my biggest enemy while also attempting to kill him
will: i am trying to save my fiancée from getting hanged so i'm chasing a man for his weird ass compass to make a deal with a fancy ass man. i also need to save my father from his curse
elizabeth: the fancy ass man's deal will only save jack and not my fiancé so i need to escape and dress up like a man to get to tortuga and find him
pintel and ragetti subplot:
here's my cat for your dash btw. if you even care
I care very much
I drew her a few years ago! Very cutes
Me, passing a car covered in horny thirst-trap anime girl stickers: while I personally find this to be cringe, given the national push for censorship, I must concede that this is technically Praxis.
#driving my Toyota Praxis
The Japanese name for cars with those stickers is itasha. Which literally means “pain chariot” but is more idiomatically translated “cringemobile”.
Just like itabags for those of you enjoying the pin-bag trend as it's picked up steam in the west over the last decade or so!
Embrace cringe! Enjoy yourself sincerely! Decorate your car or your bag with your fandoms!
You now have to exclusively go by your tumblr url instead of your name. How fucked are you?
This would go horribly for me, socially
Not perfect but I'd manage
Close to my name already/no issue
This would be an absolute win for me
extremely important PSA, unless I am the last person on the internet to hear about this which is also plausible: THE ENTIRETY OF YURI ON ICE IS UP FOR FREE WATCHING THIS MONTH FOR THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF ITS RELEASE
I'm ready to have my heart exploded with gay skating feelings all over again. come join me.
It's always "hail Mary, full of Grace" and never "Eva, the first woman, whose sins cast humanity away from Eden (but humanity found it's place out there)".
Anyway, Eva Stratt, you did everything correctly, you made the wrong choice, humanity is alive because of your determination, the most woman ever. They coul never make me pin your morals down as 'good' or 'bad'.
the most important virtues for the young woman are as follows: time theft, selfishness, orgasms, irreverence to authority, sacrilegious behavior, a questioning mind, and eating regular meals.
