Hello

We go by Cloud. Blog is sideblog, we have strange compulsion to keep main blog eloquent(?). We are semiverbal and often drop to low and/or partial verbality. Low verbality means we loose hold on grammar and language overall, not only have a hard time with mouth words like usual.

We feel wrong writing how actually would talk where people have seen us write “normal”. Usually stop talking/writing if speech wrong. Blog is so we have place to talk when can only talk like this or incoherent … feel like less imposter.

Verbality will change, if write “normal” does not mean we suddenly not semiverbal.

Well maybe I don’t WANT to work double as hard as abled people!! Maybe I deserve a BREAK!! Maybe I’ve been working MORE THAN double as hard for MY WHOLE LIFE and it’s led me to immense burnout & caused me to develop several MORE disabilities!! Maybe I should be ACCOMMODATED so I don’t have to KILL MY BODY AND BRAIN over trying to do what abled people can do!! Maybe I DON’T have to work double as hard!! Maybe if there’s the option to let me NOT work double as hard, I should have it, because I’m already working double as hard JUST TO SURVIVE!!

- not always high masking

- not always able to mask at all

- not always fully verbal or verbal at all

- can be very visibly autistic

- can be diagnosed early in life

- can be in disability support services

- very common to not be employed or to not live alone or to not know how to drive, etc.

- does not mean "no support needed"

- does not mean "basically a allistic person"

low supports means low compared to other autistic people! still need a lot of support compared to a neurotypical able bodied person.

hot take that shouldn't be hot: people who struggle with speech should be given AAC the moment it's found out they struggle with speech. not when the cause is found, not when they get diagnosed with something, not after other therapies are tried, etc.

someone can't communicate (or have limited ability to communicate) through verbal speech. they need to communicate. give them an opportunity to do so. don't put them in a limbo of waiting for month and years without ability to communicate/with limited ability to communicate. that's awful. everyone has a right to communicate! everyone should get this ability IN TIME.

it's awful that people are trapped in waiting, in shitty speech therapies (speech therapy that doesn't give aac to person who needs it is shitty), in tons of tests and evaluations without access to communication. it's awful that disabled people are again put in position when they have to accommodate themselves with very limited resources while struggling with difficult experience (navigating through world without fully working speech, probably adjusting to changes if they used to have more abilities, etc).

that's so ableist.

1. neurodivergence is kind of like. purposely vague term that purposely cover a lot lot many of stuff on purpose. purposely. that its value. it not meant for describe specific experience all ND people share beyond like. we all have brain (umbrella term) that not fit capitalist white supremacist ableist societal norm. “neurodivergence so vague” that is point - there are places vague terms absolutely useless at but there times where wide terms for solidarity on purpose for.

2. the intended (wide) definition of neurodivergence vs what neurodivergence actually been use to mean in practice (narrow) so often widely different now that many people who technically fit definition of neurodivergence

a. don’t know they technically fit definition thus can identify & seek community within it; and or

b. don’t want to identify with it because practical uses of ND & people who use term & ND community, has been used to exclude them speak over them or punch down/at them.

& different people react to it differently like some aggressively (positive/neutral) go like fuck yeah am neurodivergent no one can tell me otherwise akin to like. for lack of better term, reclaim word. versus other people aggressively (positive/neutral) avoid it n explicitly go like don’t call me neurodivergent am not neurodivergent / am not neurodivergent because of this experience.

Another Fun Fact: Cheetahs are incredibly nervous animals. One of the (many) reason’s they’re going extinct is that cheetahs are so sensitive and nervous, some of them are literally too nervous to breed. Others will breed, but stress themselves out so much, they’ll lose their cubs. So zoos with breeding programs had to figure out how to make cheetahs comfortable enough to first of all, get laid and secondly - not spazz themselves into miscarrying. So what’d they do? They gave the cheetah’s their very own Service Dogs! The dogs make them feel safe, protected and secure!

Also! Cheetahs are not in fact classified as big cats, they are simply very large lesser cats, due to the fact that they purr, meow, chirp, and cannot roar. Also many cheetahs have learned to recognize wildlife photographers are friends and not foes, so they will just come up to people and be friendly occasionally as pictured at the top of the chain. Some will even leave their Cubs with photographers to look after while they hunt. So. Yeah. Cheetahs are great

this works because cheetahs are actually fairly social animals, and they look to members of their group for context on how worried they should be about any given Situation. but since cheetahs are also nervous social animals, they can work each other into an anxiety spiral pretty easily over things like “being in an enclosed habitat” and “there’s a guy over there”.

so by introducing a dog as a member of the group, the cheetahs will now look to the dog for context clues on how worried they should be! and the dog Is Not Worried At All, Thanks, so the cheetahs think everything must be chill even if they were personally unsure about it, and they stop being so freaked out about literally everything.

From what understand, person who is verbalflux, looses speech.

So it is used like “they are a verbalflux person” instead of “they are a person who looses speech often”.

Verbalflux an adjective and lose speech is description.

It's okay to like picture based AAC more than Text to Speech even if you can type. Maybe it takes you longer to make a sentence than with regular typing but that's okay too. Communication should be as easy and stress free for you as possible, even if that takes more time.

From some of the discourse I've seen, I've gotten the impression that some people think intersectionality is like math. Let me explain.

Some people think of certain identities as universally giving privilege (we'll say these have a value of +1) and some as universally taking privileged/causing discrimination/bigotry/etc. (we'll say these have a value of -1).

And what I've seen is that people will add these values and decide how hard someone has it based on the value of the product.

For example: A white (+1) Christian (+1) gay (-1) man (+1) would have a score of 2, since 1+1-1+1 is 2. (Keep in mind I'm not saying people literally do this sort of math, though I have actually seen charts that do, it's more of a way of illustrating a way of thinking I've seen.)

The problem with this, of course, is that this isn't how the world works at all. Depending on where he lived and his situation in general, that white Christian gay man could be bullied severely, called slurs, or even beaten and killed--all things you wouldn't expect going off a score of 2--because intersectionality is not like math. And because, in some places, this man's gayness would overshadow all his other identities.

Also, this mathy way of looking at things fails to consider how identities interact with each other. For instance, (and this is something several of my mutuals, but especially @dysphoria-things, have discussed in the past) a trans man's identity as a man does *not* serve to "cancel out" his being trans in the eyes of society. First, many won't even view him as a man. Second, even if he is viewed as a man by a certain group, he still may be subject to less explicit forms of transphobia. Not to mention the expectation many hold that he perform his man-ness in order for them to keep seeing him as a man. There's a lot more to unpack here specifically, but the previously mentioned mutual has already done many many posts on this, and is more qualified to speak on this than I am as a cis person, so I suggest you go check that blog out if you want to hear more on this topic.

Another example would be one of *my* identity intersections. That of being aromantic and allosexual. Now, being allosexual (not asexual) is not a minority identity. However, it by no means "cancels-out" my aromanticism. In fact, the specific combination of this majority identity (allosexuality) with my aromanticism actually leads to some seriously nasty assumptions and stereotypes. Because what do you think goes through the majority of people's (especially conservative's) heads when they hear "Oh I'm attracted to people sexually, but not romantically." Nothing flattering.

Point is, intersectionality is not like math. Having a majority identity does not necessarily mean that identity will always be rewarded (especially depending on the combination with a minority identity), and also this way of thinking is one thing that can start people down the "oppression-olympics/who has it worst" route, which is helpful and productive to exactly no one. The world is complicated, society is complicated, and people are complicated. And anything boiled down this much is usually inaccurate enough to be useless or actively harmful.
