the little foot stomps when he says question, which is something he does every time but are infused with actual frustration while he interrogates grace

the sulky way he says no again and again when grace tries to get him to give him a thumbs up

the way grace's voice breaks when we says "we got stars to save."

"need word. to risk self to save other." / "dumb." and then writes brave with this sort of painful pride because he doesnt know yet

the way grace steps away to have a moment to himself

rocky doing the math on his claws. "i can give. i go home six years slower."

the resolve in rocky's voice when he says he couldnt fix his crew but he can fix this, and grace go home

the way grace's breath hitches when he breaks down

"okay."

"i thought you made peace, question?" / "i didnt mean any of that. that's just something you say."

ending with the hug which is plain adorable.

like fuck me it is so perfect. front to back perfect. the performances are so good. like i have a lot of favorite scenes in this movie but it is up there.

I love that the first person he tried to go to was Eddie, but the first person he was actually able to admit to was Chimney.

We don’t see a lot of the Buck&Chim dynamic and that scene was so so so powerful

project hail mary movie gave me enough serotonin boost for another three months

So in (movie) Project Hail Mary when Grace is running trying to escape being sent to die by his friend, like… he gets all the way to the fence. There HAD to be people who saw him running from Stratt’s men. The scientists he’d been working with and the friends he’d made on the ship and people who KNEW him, people who saw this goofy guy who is a key part of the Project running for his life. They would then hear that he was the replacement scientist. They would have looked at the official records of the launch and see that he was put into a coma days before hand. They would know. They would know.

What would they think? Would they think he’s a coward, would they think back on him with pity and regret and sadness, would some of them be angry with Stratt, or would they know exactly what had happened? Does Carl forgive Stratt, knowing it absolutely had to be done but unable to look her in the eye ever again? Ryland Grace is hailed a hero. But there are people who know what they did to that poor, cowardly science teacher, and people who know that there were no better options.

Thinking about Grace sobbing and begging with his face in the grass, knowing this will be his last memory of Earth and watching Carl do nothing to save him. Waking up and meeting Rocky and finally remembering ‘Oh. I’m a coward.’ And wondering if the person he was before the Hail Mary died when he woke up in space.
