Omega Headcanons

i’ve noticed that, within the aboverse, omegas are usually stereotyped to be all cute, and soft, and pretty and in alot of fic, particularly outside of tumblr, theyre portrayed as always needing an alpha to protect them because theyre just so soft and weak and theyre simply too small and fragile to defend themselves 😿

*Heat clinic headcanon*

So I heard about the trope of heat clinics and here's my take on it:

- Heat clinics provide services like checking up on the reproductive health of an omega, birth control and it's also a place for omegas to spend their heats in.

- Omegas go there to request a partner of their choice (male/female, alpha/beta/omega), but obviously have to be of adult age.

- The clinic provides the omegas a little room of their own and blankets and plushies to nest with.

- They also provide toys and lube for mating.

- The volunteering partners are researched thoroughly and are given health checkups before they come in contact with an omega, to assure the omega's safety.

- The participants are given collars to avoid bonding marks.

- The omegas sign a consent form before their heat begins.

I was thinking there are also rut clinics for alphas, but that isn't my domain. Have fun with this hc y'all.

I sometimes feel like I don't always come across well when I'm trying to describe alphas. Being needed is a deep feeling. That profoundness that comes with knowing you're trusted, knowing you're important to someone, that you're needed, is especially strong among alphas.

Courting hcs

(AKA one of my favourite A/B/O tropes)

• So, traditionally an Alpha will court an Omega as an attempt to prove themselves to be a worthy mate.

• Obviously, there are exceptions in which an Omega courts the Alpha at times.

• Courting can be done by any of the secondary genders and can be directed at people of any other secondary gender, but it typically happens between Alphas and Omegas, or between a Beta and another Beta.

• 9 times out of 10, people ask before courting someone, but sometimes an Alpha will just.. randomly hand an Omega a blanket or something like that with no explanation. This can go on until the Omega realizes "𝘰𝘩 𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺'𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘦"

• In more traditional families, the parents/guardians of the one being courted will be/have to be asked before courtship begins. 

• Often, people who are being courted will give gifts to the person courting them.

• Courting gifts vary depending on the secondary gender of the person being courted.

FOR OMEGAS

Pillows.

Plushies.

Decorative things like fairy lights or scented things like candles/max melts.

Sweaters or hoodies - anything soft.

Supplies for nesting - blankets and stuff.

If the person courting them is trusted, then scented things are a good gift - a hoodie or blanket belonging to them.

Food, usually sweet things.

Collars- ask first though, not everyone is so keen on these.

Flowers.

Jewelry.

FOR ALPHAS

• Often practical things - hair dye if roots are showing, new earphones if the cord is fraying, things like that.

• Food! Usually homemade.

• Like I said with the first bullet point, things that the Alpha might need are a must. Let’s say an Omega is courting and Alpha and they notice the tiniest of holes in their t shirt. Bam, next day the see the Alpha they’ve got them a new shirt.

• Colognes and perfumes.

• Books or CDs.

• Scented items as well - honestly they can be given during courting to anyone regardless of secondary gender.

• Lotions, soaps, etc.

FOR BETAS

• I can’t remember who originally said this but collectable items are good - for example, Funko Pops.

• Things for decoration are good too - stuff like a poster, printed pictures, picture frames, etc.

• Betas are all about being organized, so stuff like calendars, day planners, etc.

• Skincare items.

That’s all I have for courting right now but I may add to this over time!

Betas are travel bugs!

The thing is, most Alphas and Omegas are homebodies. Not to say there aren’t exceptions to the rules, but for the most part? Alphas will get antsy if they’re away from their territory for too long - they have a deep need to protect and guard their home, their pack, their stuff - cus they’re possessive. And likewise Omegas will miss the comfort of their nest(s); they want to be somewhere comfortable and reliable. They need to know they have a safe and familiar place for their (even just hypothetical) pups.

But Betas? Well, Betas don’t have such strong homing instincts.

Their role in the pack dynamic is traditionally that of the Scout; they go out and explore ahead of their Alpha leader(s) on trips and expeditions to check if the coast is clear or if there’s a new food source nearby.

Betas are renown for their itchy feet, and the travel industry relies heavily on them. They love love love going travelling and it’ll be a couple of months after they get back and they’ll be restless and ready to go somewhere new and different all over again.

Some Betas love to travel because it’s just nice to get away and relax somewhere far from all your day-to-day worries.

Some Betas love to travel because it’s exciting and they live for getting lost in a new country and they’re adrenaline junkies.

A lot of Betas love to travel and soak in all the new knowledge - lean about the culture, the history, etc., etc. - because most Betas love to learn.

Excelling at sensing what a pack needs and being natural peacekeepers, Betas are known to pester encourage their packs into going on pack holidays when they start sensing how everyone’s a little stressed or burnt out and needs a break.

(Persuading their Alphas “c’moooon, I know you love camping, it’ll do us all good to get back out there in nature; we can go canon-balling in that freezing lake like last year, you loved that”)

(Persuading the Omegas “this hotel is not only affordable and pup-friendly but my friend says it’s the coziest, most luxurious hotel they’ve ever been to - they even have a massage parlour”)

Most adventurers/explorers/pioneers throughout history have been Betas. You think the Norse people were always led across the waves to new lands by traditional big strong Alphas? No way (too busy looking after the village back home. Update them when you’ve established a settlement so they can send over their firstborn to rule over it). Most Viking ships and crews were navigated and led by Betas.

Packs from Nomadic cultures, such as Native Americans and Pavees (Irish Travellers), were and are actually led by Betas rather than Alphas for the most part too!

Before a pup presents you might be able to tell they’re a Beta beforehand because they always freak out their parents with their disappearing act whenever they bring them on shopping trips because they just want to explore!

All of this kind of explains why Omegas have their nests and Alphas have their dens and territories but Betas don’t really have anything specific like this; their nest is wherever they happen to lay their head that night, their den is whatever roof happens to be over their head at the time, and the whole world is their (is everyone’s) territory.

Really love exploring forests and stuff myself! Though most of the time I end up left behind than up ahead XD because I’m just more on the look out for things, I’m the first to see a patch of mushrooms or a bug friend.

But I also love coming back home to my nest. Even more so when I have something to add to it from my travels~

The nest is up the ladder...

First off, I love this. Lots of windows, and the omega’s nest is at the top of the ladder. The first time the omega takes his/her alpha up there, the alpha gets super close (because come on!) and they almost fall off the ladder. But the alpha rights them enough to just barely get them both up the ladder before they collapse into the blankets and pillows in laughter.

listen. l i s t e n. listen. kudos does not equal quality. popularity does not equal quality. i have read some “fandom classics” that i could barely fathom how boring or terrible i - personally - found them, and i have stumbled across some absolute gems that didn’t even break 100 kudos. 

what is good doesn’t always get the recognition it deserves. it’s sad, but true. just because you haven’t - or possibly never take - off in fandom doesn’t mean your work isn’t astounding and beautiful, it doesn’t mean you should stop writing; it just means that a very select corner of the internet missed the diamond in the rough. 

fanfiction is flooded with content, there are so many of us out there producing it these days, and having a fic that takes off is almost as much about luck as it is about talent. never let a few artificial numbers on the internet dictate to you what is and isn’t worthy writing. 

additionally, you don’t have to read or enjoy fics just bcs they’re big. i cannot count the amount of times i’ve read the first paragraph of something fandom adores and immediatly exited out of it.

just… do what makes you happy. write what you wanna write, read what you wanna read. understand that while we all want recognition - and some deserve it more than others - we did not get into fanfiction for that recognition.

recognition is good, but sometimes we get all tangled up chasing it and stop enjoying writing and reading and fandom as a whole along the way. be careful of that, please, or you’ll burn yourself out.

Twenty-five years in fandom and it doesn’t get truer than this. You absolutely CANNOT predict what will be popular and what won’t. It’s due to coincidence and timing and who happens to hit reblog and yanno…it’s a mystery. Write for yourself, read for yourself, this isn’t a job.

First of all, that lion is WORN OUT. For his sake, I hope this picture was taken toward the end of the lioness’ heat and not at the beginning. 

Second, I have this head canon that part of the time off taken for heats (whether it’s the alpha OR the omega) is just recovery. Seriously, just a day or two so the person(s) can walk normally again. However long you decide to have heats last in your verse, 20-40 times a day gotta be tiring. Even half of that...tiring. I imagine pre-heat involves lots of carb loading.

Celebrities in the Omegaverse

Seeing all the gossip rags in the checkout lane got me thinking about how celebrities would handle the general public knowing and perhaps judging them based on their dynamic. (Remember, this is my HC and shouldn’t be taken as gospel.)

Generally, a person’s dynamic is not something that is discussed and gossiped about. Does it happen? Yes. But it’s not polite. There are, of course, ways to know what a person’s dynamic is, mostly by scent. So, say an alpha is close enough to an omega celebrity, it’s going to be obvious. In most circumstances, the knowledge would be kept to themselves. 

In my verse, I have a female omega who is a soccer player. In a situation where there may be alphas, betas, and omegas (both mated and not mated) on the same team and in close contact with one another, part of their contract is to take whatever precautions necessary to prevent unwanted situations. This is simple for a mated player, whose scent would, say, deter the others on the team. For those who are not mated, this could be anything like a suppressant or perhaps a scent deterrent of some kind.

When it comes to periods of absence necessary for either ruts or heats, this is a type of leave/sick days that are extended to everyone, regardless of their dynamic. This prevents an alpha or omega having to disclose their dynamic (something that could be hidden if they already use suppressors) unless they do so voluntarily. This is actually commonplace for many professions, where periods of absence could also be necessary for betas who are helping an alpha/omega, or those who have children who have presented and need that comforting presence.

Brief Look into Omegaverse Reproductive System

Disclaimer: This is a work if fiction and should in no way taken as scientifically serious.

Be aware that this universe does not have two major genders (i.e. male and female) but rather six genders: AF, AM, BF, BM, OF, and OM.

Alpha females have enlarged retractable clitoris that she uses to bond with her mate. Her body temperature is naturally cooler then the other nature to preserve her sperm. Alpha males begin to develop their Bulbus Glandis during puberty.

Pretty self-explanatory.

Omega females have larger ovaries out all the natures resulting in more estrogen. She will have larger breasts and wider hips.  Omega males lack testicles and have a smaller penis. His uterus is located near his rectum and only opens during Heats via Cloacal Flap.

Alpha’s Scent during Heats

Omegas who do not have a mate or who prefer not to bond during their Heat still would like the scent of an Alpha nearby to get them through the week. Having the scent in proximity is not necessary, but Omegas prefer to have it 90% of the time because it smells good to them.
