When I saw in that neck brace this is the first thing that came to mind lol
Ok but why is Andrew kinda giving Regina George neck brace in the new Star Fox game lmao
HI BILL
I think if you understand TADC as a deeply personal and direct story centering on transness, emotional/self repression, the inner complexity of cruel people, ego, control, self-destructive tendencies, second chances, and what it means to live a meaningful life, all filtered through the core vision of one person, you'll find a raw expression of all those things, an experience being shared. You'll find a story that is consistent in its theme, subject matter, and quality throughout. Not something impossibly esoteric or flawlessly sophisticated, but a story that puts every piece it needs to into place. A story that completes itself, that says what it needs to and leaves a mark after it does.
Conversely, if you understand TADC as a story to take every single aspect, moment, outcome, and detail totally literally rather than in tandem with the thematic signficance it communicates. Or were looking for a more lore-driven story. Or were hoping for a more rounded exploration of its world and characters, a hollistic dive into the premise it sets up rather than a story barreling towards a specific end goal/a very pointed thematic stance. You're gonna end up disappointed with what you got.
And this is not a moral judgement, I don't think any expectation is at all more correct than another. I actually think my last point is probably even the most fair stance to have. Especially if you don't engage with any secondary material and just look at the show itself, since it doesn't totally establish Jax as a core focus until later in its run. Some storylines do feel very sidelined.
But if you view the show for what it was meant to be rather than what it was expected to be, I personally think it was rather beautiful. Not perfect, not the pinnacle of cinema, but as a trans woman, it was meaningful to me, dearly so. I feel like the standards its being held to aren't totally reasonable. I think it's a story that deserved to be told as it is, I think it's human.
On Andrew’s Favorite Book:
THE APES OF WRATH!
Andrew’s favorite book is “The Apes of Wrath”, according to the N64 strategy guide. I’ve been amusingly haunted by this for years, so it’s time to say my piece.
My first thought was (1) “Andrew reads…?”. My second thought was (2) “That’s totally hilarious. Andross’s army is full of wrathful apes, after all.” My third thought was (3) “Wait a minute. The source material, the Grapes of Wrath, is a sad and soulful tale of poverty, death, and community under struggle. Could the Apes of Wrath be a similar book!?”
It was obviously just a silly monkey joke by the creators, but what if we took it seriously for juicy fanfic/worldbuilding/lore reasons?
We can muse that if the Apes of Wrath is anything like the source material it’s parodying by John Steinbeck, it concerns the plight of simian migrant workers who travel far from home in hopes of financial stability during Some Great Lylatian Depression. Perhaps it’s written by someone called Yohn Steinbock (a Steinbock goat).
Many of these ape characters would be a part of impoverished families who starve to death in hopes of a promised land that never materializes. Perhaps Corneria’s governance promised these people something that it never actually delivered on? Were they deceived in this story? Ignored? Abandoned? Exploited?
Could the Apes of Wrath actually be a hard-hitting piece of literature that helps us understand what led to the formation of Andross’s army? Then we may begin to comprehend how a despotic force of nature like Andross — who has no qualms about mass bioterrorism and genocide — somehow gained a passionate army of followers.
Idea:
Instead of a grandson dash as a generic clone that falco takes care of guys.
why aren't we talking about baby fox's pawprint on james's arwing
Probably the same reason we don't talk about Peppy's CONFIRMED KILLS ON THE SIDE OF HIS???
Nah I'd learn
Why were you missing classes, Fox?
(I ask as if I have no idea what the reason could be.)

Chat, fellow nearly extinct starfox fan, do you want to share like some of your headcanons for the starfox team 😭 pleaseeee if you have any, i need more content 😭
oh... wow... i haven't been asked that in a looong time. i can share some of my thoughts!!
i'm only gonna do the 4 main star fox members for the sake of post length but if you want more/different characters lmk
fox mccloud
i am a firm believer that fox has a short temper. not like falco, oh no, but in the way it simmers and boils deep inside of him and eats him alive. the temper that he has to take deep breaths to keep under control whenever he's in a battle and his father is mentioned because he'll lose his self control. or he has to take deep breaths to avoid losing his shit at falco taking the last of his cheez-its. either or
fox is very controlling of who he wants to present as, who he wants to be. any moment, no matter how small, that he loses that control of how he's perceived, it cuts a thread. it's why by command he's completely alone and broken down. he's so absorbed in trying to be the hero to surpass his father's legacy that he's lost the plot in what he originally intended: to help people. his selflessness becomes self-sacrificial selfishness for his own sake
i like to think he does realize the self fulfilling prophecy/cycle he puts himself in and breaks out of it and eventually finds peace within himself (it just makes him stronger)
very handsome by lylatian standards. pretty, long brown eyelashes, nice arms, a smile that makes people's knees weak, nice fur pattern coloring, bright yellow-green eyes that stare right through you. confidence of the lylat star (fake? who knows... fake it til u make it)
i hc them with mike west's voice for him in 64/zero/ssbu/starlink. it's a nasally and sharp baritone, very stern. very clear and concise. but some find it off-putting due to how nasally it is. once the prime minister of zoness' daughter said "everything about him is a 10 except for that voice... it's a 5." fox shrugged and didn't care. he doesn't like his voice either.
they're 5'4. (around 162 cm). short king. stocky body type, triangle shape. got more muscle than people expect, but he's not overly bulky. has brown fur on his feet & legs that stops right below his knees ("fox socks"). softer stomach than ppl expect, but still has a very strong core
constantly training, learning how to counter every possible scenario whether flying or in hand to hand. a tryhard
venomians during the lylat wars referred to him as the "green eyed demon" bc he barely spoke and if his eyes were focused on you, you were toast.
don't let any of that fool you, he a fucking dork. loves old sci-fi movies and shows of every subgenre and has posters all over their room. (tbh, film nerd in general)
only really dated women but... bi-curious? (eventually realizes, yes, bisexual) and probably non-binary but doesn't have time to think abt that rn (he mainly uses he/him but likes they/them now and then)
when they flirt it's kind of accidental. not his fault he happens to bat his eyelashes and tilt his head to the side and has a beautiful, charming smile, and gives very nice compliments
cleans his arwing himself, takes very good care of it
born on papetoon, lived there until he was abt 9-10 years old until he & james moved to corneria due to the start of the lylat wars & fox wanting to enroll in the cornerian defense force's academy
ABSURDLY good at guitar hero. plays the lylatian equivalent of clone hero and loves playing things at 200% speed lol
falco lombardi
falco is an arrogant s.o.b. with a lot of issues esp with authority & commitment but we been knew lol
falco is also super controlling over himself, like fox, except is even MORE emotionally repressive. he refuses to be vulnerable & it makes him struggle making last connections.
fox, slippy, & peppy eventually wear him down, tho, he loves them so deeply it physically hurts him but he can't let them know that (prob never does)
LOVES the thrill of getting into arguments for the sake of it. loves starting shit for fun, mostly with fox bc fox eventually rises to the bait
also stuck in a self-fulfilling prophecy cycle that he'll end up alone & have no one when he's the one actively pushing everyone away (he does slowly come out of this, he regresses now and then but post command he accepts that he has ppl that love him & he's deserving of it)
avians are rare in the lylat system, so he tends to get treated as a novelty if he runs into the wrong crowd, but to other avians, falco is pretty good looking, not drop dead gorgeous, but he is very pretty. beautiful feathers
i hc him with mark lund's voice for him (ssbu/zero/starlink) BUT i also do love mike madeoy's voice for him in assault, so i like to imagine that falco's accent will slip out sometimes (when he's talkative, angry/annoyed, or even relaxed. it depends)
tallest on the sf team, standing at 6'1 (around 185 cm). very lanky, long limbs. long, feathery fingers since they're his wings lol. he does have weird bird feet & legs. he may be on the thinner side but don't let that fool u, he'll kick ur ass (strong legs... u think i'm NOT gonna give Uptilt The Character strong legs?)
trains no where near as hard as fox but knows he unfortunately has to stay in shape/practice to maintain his elite skills. not lazy, but he wishes he could be & will complain the entire time
if he wasn't so arrogant & thought a little bit before he acted, he would be a better pilot than fox, but that's just not in the cards. however, he is BARELY behind fox in terms of piloting. BARELY (according to him)
he's not a dork or a nerd like fox or slippy, thank u very much. (he has his own Interests that would be classified as nerdys or dorky by other ppl but he refuses it see it that way bc he's not like THEM tyvm)
born & lived on zoness before basically running off to be part of a group of "hot rodders" (aka leader of an intergalactic gang) before fox basically sought him out due to his reputation as being a great pilot (despite being part of a gang). seldom, if ever, talks abt his home planet
absolutely RAGES when he plays video games but it's just entertaining enough that fox and slippy are still willing to play with him (sometimes pissing him off on purpose... all the time)
slippy toad
slippy's anxiety has been sitting in the pit of his stomach his entire life, he is very jittery and grew up having a stutter, but received early childhood treatment, but it's not permanently gone.
slippy just wants to be himself and be accepted without getting shit for it. he can't control the way he sounds, the way he looks, any of that. he feels like he has to constantly prove himself through his actions.
born on aquas & moved to corneria very young (still a tadpole) due to beltino's job at space dynamics, but he visits aquas often enough & loves gushing abt his home planet <3
parents are divorced & it was for the best. they both love him very much, but he spends more time with his dad growing up
despite growing up on corneria, he also travelled to papetoon enough that he & fox are childhood friends (beltino is friends with james & peppy from their academy days)
excelled in engineering/mechanics at the cornerian defense academy but was lackluster in most other things. he is super smart but combat & piloting just aren't his strong suits (esp in comparison to fox & even bill, who are his friends)
by lylatian standards he's average looking, by amphibian standards he's a fucking cutie
lyssa browne's (64/64 3D/zero/starlink) voice for him is so sweet and captures his naivete so well, but also compared to fox & falco & peppy's voices i think it's nice for slippy to have smth clear & distinct to him since he has trouble being heard. he WILL be heard.
shortest on the sf team, standing at about 4'10 (abt 147 cm). short & squat, chubby/fat. does have webbed frog feet & powerful legs that allow him to jump super high, doesn't need to use a ladder or stairs when needing to get on top of the arwings. and yes, a long stretchy tongue
so focused on taking care of the great fox, arwings, rob64, etc that he doesn't physically train himself for fighting that much, and even if he knows how to completely take apart and rebuild a landmaster & knows the controls inside and out, he's still average in his skills. will practice flying when fox has team practice time
nerd, loves video games & anime & manga!!! very impressive collection!! he also develops his own video games as a hobby, also has a lot of models he builds!!
this frog gets more dates than anyone on the star fox team (that isn't married lol peppy) & falco can NOT fathom this. pansexual. he's shy when it comes to romantic interests, smth he & fox actually share & relate to each other
fox moved in with the toads after his father died & slippy was the one who taught fox how to swim!! (based on this art!!) it's why fox swims how he does in star fox adventures!
favorite snack is a bag of toasted cicadas :)
peppy hare
in the original star fox team, peppy was the team strategist, the same position he holds with the current team.
i love the star fox 64 lore that peppy declined the leadership role and insisted fox be the leader and in charge despite peppy being older and far more experienced in their line of work. i think peppy did it because he felt it wasn't right for him to step up when it's 1. star fox and 2. wanted to give fox the chance to seek vengence for james... fox was only 13 when james died (in star fox 64's timeline)
peppy i think has a crass sense of humor he got from pigma but would never admit it and tries to keep it quiet if he can, esp when he's on a team of 3 other ppl that are 23 years younger than him (again, 64 timeline ages, peppy is 41 when fox & slippy are 18 & falco is 19)
peppy and james met on corneria when they were cadets at the cornerian defense academy. (james was from papetoon). peppy was born and raised on corneria.
he met his wife, vivian, (first mentioned on the star fox 64 japanese website, then the star fox assault perfect guide, then obv in sf command) at the defense academy as children. she was in the same training clases as him. both were respected officers in the defense force
peppy also introduced james to pigma dengar, who was an engineer, who in turn introduced them to vixy reinard (james' wife & fox's mother, i hc she was a scientist that worked under andross), and of course, (general) pepper, and andross. peppy is why the first gen friend group exists
him being the glue that holds the group together for both generations... thank u
loves his daughter lucy & his wife vivian but... being away lot, he's kinda absent but rlly does try when he's home, but it's a struggle (him & vivian are still in love up until her death due to her illness ;_;)
peppy also loves fox like a son, so much, & just wants fox to be the best he can, but he unintentionally is a huge reason why fox has struggles with his identity, esp with the comparisons to his father... but peppy rlly does look at fox & see james (& even a bit of vixy sometimes) & it makes peppy so upset
he never talks in depth abt his experience being captured by the venomians/andross, only went in depth abt how he escaped. even once fox & co are pushing 30, peppy still never tells them what he went through.
when vivian gets sick is when peppy steps down from pilot to advisor (pre-sf adventures). he's still obv on the great fox a lot & at risk but it just... yea. losing vivian made him despondent for a bit
but he couldn't grieve her for too long due to general pepper being ill due to the aparoids & he names peppy interim general (allowed due to peppy's respected officer status in the cdf despite having left & been part of star fox) (he ends up becoming general proper, not just interim)
ok, time for fun ones ;_; peppy has always had his glasses, but he decided to wear them full time not too long after falco left the sf team. he's near sighted (he used to wesr contacts for the most part)
peppy is the kind of guy to grab a wine glass & fill it to the rim (which, is way too much wine LOL) & is a very fun drunk LOL
