The way I knew B*lly Eyelashe was a fraud before she made her fuckass statements about eating meat.

To blame meat eaters for the atrocities of colonial capitalism and ignoring the fact that so many indigenous people have managed to hunt & farm in a non-cruel and sustainable manner for centuries is straight up racist.

If we do not dismantle the capitalist's food industrial complex as a whole, the same harm you do producing meat will be done to produce vegan alternatives en-masse.

Whenever someone gets accused of sexual assault and their only refutation is that they've had flirtatious or allegedly consensual sexual relationships before with that person, I immediately trust them even less to be innocent.

Flirtation is not consent and neither is prior sexual contact. Domestic sexual abuse is actually MORE common than sexual abuse from strangers.

The fact that you can't recognize that as a grown adult shows that you have a twisted sense of what consent means already, and you just confirmed that you had sexual intentions with the person, so you just told on yourself.

Every time I hear a parent complaining about their child leaving for university and ‘never coming back’ I’m like “Yeah. I don’t need to hear anything else. Kid is in the right.” also, it is baffling how many parents expect their kids to MOVE CLOSER TO THEM so they can see their grandkids. If you ‘feel abandoned’ maybe you could consider leaving Shitsburgh Hatesville and moving closer to them? Or is that too brave?

And I know there is a lot of cultural and family tie related things that can make relocating as an older person scary but I grew up in an area with a terrible economy, a declining population, no healthcare, no job opportunities, no educational opportunities and terrible infrastructure and I got so sick of listening to people complain that their children left. It is a horrible place to raise a child. There is no drugstore in the town, no pediatrician, no entertainment, corruption, a terrible school and again, no jobs. If you actually loved your grandchildren, you’d understand why their parents don’t want to raise them there.

If you don't then you can start by finding out about your local indigenous communities and then research how they're being neglected in your area specifically. I can't speak for all of us because different nations are facing different struggles. This won't be easy but if you want to talk about our oppression, acknowledging that you're a colonizer isn't enough.

So a white woman today wished me happy canada day, and when I did not respond positively, told me that while she's not much for canada day, she was thankful for her freedoms as a queer/trans person.

I told her "glad you all get freedoms at least"

And it really is 'you all' and not us.

My people's traditional systems of gender and social roles are not recognized. There's no legal recognition for people who are ayahkwêw, iskwêhikan, or înapîkasoht. No understanding of the roles of tastawiyiniwak.

Our traditional styles of relationships, the way that we do "marriage" has no legal protection. Legal marriage takes after european christian marriage. Why are Indigenous unions considered less valid? Why does the occupational government get a say in who I choose to share my life with?

Polyamory was not uncommon among my people. People regularly had multiple partners. You could have multiple spouses. These relationships nowadays have no recognition, no protection.

Children were raised communally. Nowadays most kids are raised without our language. More than 70% of kids in care in Alberta (where I live) are Indigenous. Instead of being raised by the community our kids get stolen off reserve and sent to white families.

People had the right to end relationships at any time. How many women get stuck in abusive marriages because of the high financial cost of divorce? How many Indigenous wives have been murdered by settler husbands before they could leave???

50% of sex trafficking victims in so called canada are Indigenous women and girls. Rates of rape and sexual violence are higher against our women and two spirit people than anyone else. We are just now starting to talk about how many Indigenous girls went from residential school to arranged marriages with white men.

But its great that settlers can have their queer marriages recognized. Happy canada day.

It's a frightening lack of respect for a group to go "hey this is our culture/religion/mythology? Please don't use that word" and apparently all the white people are like "but what if I did anyway to make my unity horror game 0.01% scarier?"

Just use a different word! Call it a deerman, deer god, forest spirit, whatever. Try to care at least a little when someone says not to use their culture for entertainment.

Also worth mentioning that those deer-skulled monstrosities have literally nothing to do with the actual folklore. That version of the legend was popularized by a racist white author who changed the description of the spirit to be much more animalistic, mirroring the way he described Native people in his work as animal-like. It’s a bastardized caricature of the actual mythology, steeped in anti-indigenous racism and dehumanization. Stop calling those things w******s, they are not.
