ASAW Fandom Challenge Day 3 - Aromantic Headcanons None of these are really my default way of seeing these characters, but you know how much I love to play with a million different aus and interpretations!
Tycho Celchu & Nyiestra - @aphorisnt and I discussed an au where they’re both aro and involved in a QPR and their engagement is non-romantic. She also survives in this one and joins the Rebellion. Once, they were sent on a mission together undercover as a couple and kept cracking up when they really had to act it, driving their controllers up the wall. Inevitably, their covers were blown and they had to shoot their way out - totally successfully, because they’re both badasses. Their superiors won’t make that mistake again.
Wes Janson & Hobbie Klivian - both aroallo and involved in a QPR basically since meeting and long before either of them knew the word. Both sometimes have sex with other people and sometimes with each other and are just generally incredibly affectionate and supportive life partners.
Rey - Aroace. She isn’t and never has been interested in romance or sex, and even if she may not have the word or have always had it, she knows herself and never apologizes for who she is or lets anyone make her feel inferior for it.
Vi Moradi - canonically ace, I also see her as aro, as she seems entirely uninterested in relationships. She also makes no apologies for who she is and is a big defender of aspec rights and the mama hen of all the Resistance aspecs. She’s happy to discuss and support anyone who is questioning and runs a sort of ad hoc support group for all the acespecs and arospecs who wish to attend. You mess with one of her chicks, you mess with the whole flock, and you’re going to be sorry.
Cal Kestis - In my Reincarnationverse, Cal is aroace. He knew from a young age that his feelings were different from his friends, and his dads helped him research this and find the word asexual. He’d never been in a relationship until meeting Wyl Lark and Sonogari in college and getting involved with them. It seemed to be going well until he began to think he might not be feeling quite what his boyfriends were either, and that made him very uncomfortable. After some more research between the three of them and a lot of soul-searching, he realized that the word aromantic also described how he felt, and the three of them renegotiated their relationship with Cal now being QPR to the other two.
For Day 3 of Aro-Spec Awareness Week’s Fandom Challenge, I’m posting about some Aromantic headcanons! I really enjoy the thought of aro Obi-Wan Kenobi and aro Luke Skywalker!
Luke Skywalker is an aro headcanon that I particularly love because he’s such a big-hearted character motivated so much by his love for his friends and family. Obi-Wan Kenobi has been an incredibly important character to me ever since I first got into Star Wars well over a decade ago, and as an aro person, reading and writing about him being aro means a lot.
I’ve written about aro Obi-Wan in More Than This, a fic centered on his relationship with being aro-ace over the course of his life, and I’ve written about aro Luke in Connections, a fic featuring aroace Luke and aroace-spec Rey.
ASAW Fandom Challenge - 2/20: Post about Demiromantic Headcanons
Let me tell you all about demiromantic Wedge Antilles!! This started out as “the only ‘major’ aspec identity I haven’t headcanoned someone with is demiromantic” and casting about for a target and finding Wedge, but it’s gained so much traction in my mind! In Legends canon, we only ever see Wedge involved in three serious relationships - Mala, Qwi, and Iella - and showing interest in a few others that don’t go very far. I like the idea that this is because Wedge has to make a solid emotional connection with someone before he starts feeling romantically attracted to them, and with the way he lives and how long that takes for him, this is hard to do. For a very long time, Mala was the only relationship he’d ever had, and he was fairly young. The Star Wars 2013 comic mentions him having feelings for a lady pilot who died at Yavin, and I can see this being devastating for him because he managed to develop those feelings only to lose her before he could even tell her. Then there’s Qwi. By the time he meets her, Wedge is aware it takes him a long time to fall for someone, even if he doesn’t quite understand why or have the word. But he likes her as a person, and he hopes those feelings will come with time. But they never do. He can’t force them. I’m very fond of the idea of their amicable breakup involving her gently calling him on this and asking about his experiences, asking if he’s ever heard of demiromanticism, and this being how he finds the explanation for how he’s always felt. And then of course, there’s Iella - his demiromanticism perfectly explaining why it took so very long for his feelings for her to come to fruition and the relationship to get off the ground.
You also get this passage from The Krytos Trap with some very validating factoids: ~Since the death of his parents when he was young, Wedge has given “little thought” to romance and relationships ~He’s found companionship with various women but never an actual partner ~He can’t explain why not
Sounds a like a good arospec boy without the vocab to describe his identity to me!
I still don't get why people are so freaked out over the fact that Jedi are not actively pursuing sexual or romantic relationships, as if you were damaged, broken, insane and brainwashed, and must be fixed, educated, liberated if you won't happen to be in need of any of those things.
My preferred flavor of Codywan is both of them being so aroace that absolutely no one outside of the relationship has any idea whether they're in a relationship or not at any given point in time. Cody and Obi-Wan always know, there's never any confusion between the two of them about where they stand with each other. It's just other people who aren't sure. And there are varying levels of reactions to that uncertainty.
All the way down at the bottom is Anakin who has exactly zero clue about whether Cody and Obi-Wan are in a relationship or not, and cannot handle not knowing, but he also doesn't really feel comfortable just coming out and asking Obi-Wan about it, so he's constantly setting up weird little traps to see if he can catch them in a compromising position and they never work. It drives him completely bonkers.
At the exact opposite end of the spectrum are most of the Jedi who might have more of a clue as to whether they're in a relationship or not depending on how familiar they are with Obi-Wan, but they also are so used to relationships among the Jedi being defined very loosely and so they really have no issue with not knowing for sure. If Cody and Obi-Wan want someone to know, they will say something. It's really none of their business most of the time and as long as both people involved seem happy and healthy, that's all that matters.
Somewhere in the middle would be people like Padme and Bail, who would probably also decide it's not technically their business, but they're also absolutely curious about it. Bail I think would be polite enough to not really let on about his curiosity outside of maybe some conversations with Breha. But Padme, spurred on by Anakin's absolute insanity over it, might try to drop some hints in conversations with Obi-Wan or pursue information through other sources to get more information. She thinks she's being really subtle about how nosy she is, but she's not.
Cody and Obi-Wan generally do not care about how others perceive their relationship, it works for them and makes them happy. They're not TRYING to keep secrets or anything, they're just living their lives the way they want to and it happens to not fit within specific boxes or labels. If directly asked, they're happy to admit that they are in fact in a relationship with each other.
The one exception to this is Anakin because they just really enjoy fucking with Anakin and all of his dumb traps and making sure he keeps getting contradictory information because it's hilarious to keep him guessing. Obi-Wan thinks one day he'll just let Anakin in on the secret to put him out of his misery. Cody has absolutely no intention of ever letting that happen.
Intersectionality.
