it is crazy how people will be like well we just can never know why joan of arc crossdressed, we just can't be sure it wasn't entirely about protecting herself from rape or just the practical necessity of being at war. as if that is not an argument that was literally invented at her rehabilitation trial decades after her death to justify her sainthood. as if we don't have the original french minutes of her trial, where she was very active and aware in the note-taking and what was being written down and, when given opportunities to explain her crossdressing, never once mentioned sexual violence or practical concerns about wearing women's clothing while at war, and instead directly stated several times that she wore men's clothing because it was God's will and she would only stop if God commanded her to.

like actually i don't think its that big of mystery. there's mysterious elements, because we don't have all the details, but its not like we have no clue what she said on the subject.. i think it has just historically made a lot of cishet people extremely uncomfortable that jeanne la pucelle went to her death refusing to ever admit fault for saying God told her to wear men's clothing for the sake of being a virgin waging war in men's clothing. i think it historically made a lot of people uncomfortable that at her trial they told her "Deuteronomy says crossdressing is a sin" and jeanne's response was "I know what God told me and I do not believe I have done anything wrong." but that is a problem for people because you can't have her sainthood and her admirable (to a Catholic) devotion to God without her devotion to her genderqueerness in God's name.

jeanne la pucelle did not try to imitate other historical or mythological warrior-women or holy heterosexual virgins. she carved out an identity that was truly unique to her and deeply grounded in her Catholic faith. she looked the men who killed her in the eye and answered their questions and knew what she was doing. this was not a woman who seemed unsure of herself much at all. she said she'd die before she went against God's will and wore women's clothing, and then she did. i think we can all maybe show her the respect of acknowledging that she wore men's clothing because it was personally spiritually meaningful to her that she did, and not for the secretly entirely practical cisgender reasons people came up with later to make her story easier to swallow.

this is what has always drawn me to Jeanne D’arc, even before i was a Christian. ive always seen myself in her, how her faith and convictions struggled against out Mother Church herself.

i have known i was a woman for a long time. when i first felt drawn to Christianity i was terrified. terrified that God would reject me, or ask me to sacrifice who i am to serve Him.

but i prayed on it, reflected on the core of His teachings. and ive come to the conclusion that God is not only ok with my gender identity, but an enthusiastic advocate for it. it is because of Him that i am as far into my transition as i am, and for that i thank Him.

it’s not been easy, but Christ never said that it would be. and i wouldn’t have it any other way.

Hot take but rigid divisions between queer identities and heavily-policed labels that are treated like diagnoses are really, really bad.

Trans men have shared histories with lesbians who have shared histories with bisexual women who have shared histories with ace people who have shared histories with aro people have shared histories with gay men who have shared histories with trans women who have shared histories with nonbinary people who have shared histories with etc etc etc etc etc.

Labels are important for people who want them, but we need to stop treating sexuality and gender as rigid boxes and checklists.

hi everyone, i'm an autistic transfem who has been living on and off in backpacker hostels for the past few years and i also had to get off HRT a few months ago and that isn't fun at all because i literally have more pressing health problems. i had to leave my cats at the pound (they're fine they got adopted by a vet but i'm not).

ive been planning an escape route for like. a year now. and i need a ton of money to pull it off.

by a ton i mean like $1000 is doable and $3000 is comfortable so just shovel money at me for the next few months so that in august or so i can get this done and then i will have irl community and healthcare.

i have occasional gigs as a sensitivity reader and that plus solid support from a very small handful of close friends (who are impoverished themselves) is keeping me housed by some definition of that term but i really need to up my game so i'm not just sitting here aging and dying in severe isolation. ive basically been in solitary confinement for like three years it fucking sucks

Hey! I’m an AFAB person and I decided that I want to write down a few things about women’s hygiene that my health courses didn’t teach me which I believe are important to know, because I felt crazy for a while!

1) discharge? Totally normal. It can be a sensory nightmare, but unless it’s an unexpected amount (you know your boundaries for that, trust them) or it’s a thicker, mucus like texture, theres nothing to be worried about. If you are worried, find someone to chat to, like a teacher, parent, or friend. It’s a universal experience!

2) cramps will affect your legs! That kind of weak aching you feel when your period starts? The one that makes walking a lot more tedious and sometimes painful? You aren’t making it up, and a heating pad or weighted blanket (like you might use for your cramps) can make it a lot better.

3) hydration is genuinely the best thing. When you feel as gross and unhygienic as a period can make you feel, it can be hard to take care of yourself. Water will help your body heal, so keep a bottle near by.

4) your pain isn’t dramatic. It just isn’t. Your body is going through this process every month, and just because others experience it differently doesn’t make yours any less real. So, be realistic with your self care and what is achievable. You aren’t weak, you’re human and deserve comfort. Don’t overly tax your energy budget.

5) your questions matter! Tons of other people have em, like I do, and if you want answer, seek out the resources you have around you! I’m here to answer stuff, and if Ash allows this to go through, I’m sure that she has insights as well. You deserve to know your body so that you can properly care for and love your body. You rock!
