Researchers: don't give ADHDers sugar
Addison:
Tips on how I study: -I try to keep all distractions away from me at all times -have everything I need on the table (snacks, water, pens, books) -I first give myself 25min to myself before starting, 10min to get everything together (get snacks, grab all my books, sitch on my laptop), 25min working, 5min break 25min working, 5min break, etc -this routine is very loose, so if I need to move during my working time I get up and bounce a bit -I can’t concentrate if it’s too quiet so I like to turn on some music (lofi beats or song without lyrics) (preferably with noise-canceling headphones so the outside world can’t bother me) -have my fidget toys near me -have a comfortable seating place (I like to sit at my table when I’m studying and working, but for my own personal things, like writing, I like to sit on my bed)
Today's episode of Addison's adventures and stupidity with ADHD
So, I know this sounds really stupid, but I like to melt my lipbalm (which is in a little metal container) on my lamp because it heats up nicely there. So I take the top off and let it melt and I put my laptop next to the lamp to listening to music while I scroll through Tumblr. So I'm chilling there, not having a care in the world, until the lamp starts hitting right in my eye. By this time the lipbalm has already melted. I move the lamp. And the lipbalm falls. Onto my laptop. The melted stuff goes all over the keys, under, over in between. And I'm sitting there... Thinking... "This is why I can't have nice stuff. Because I always forget something... And it leads to me breaking something else!!!" (the laptop is fine. I managed to clean the lipbalm off a bit) Lesson learned? Not at all. *proceeds to melt lipbalm on lamp again*
Anybody have some tips on how to study with adhd? Or at least manage a lot of tasks due on the same day? Because I have a test to study for tomorrow and a big project due on Friday and I've barely done any. So some help would be appreciated, even if its just for future things. I have no sense of time management whatsoever 😅
When I was younger, I was known as the 'headache kid'. Both because I gave people headaches, but also because I often said I had headaches. Actually, I only really started to get headaches in the 4th grade. I made up an excuse that my head is hurting or my ears are sore from all of the noise happening in the classroom. I was having a sensory overload. But I had no idea how to explain it to my classmates, so instead I just screamed at everyone with my loud, obnoxious German (yes I'm German and am in a German school) that everyone should shut up because I had a headache. Also I used a lot of German curse words while shouting at them... Yeah... No good times. But at least I now know why I was feeling overwhelmed.
I'm just trying to study. Please brain, just once, once, concentrate so I can pass this.
ppl let's reblog with your actual hyperfixation, I'm curious: mine's apocalypse and how to survive
Mine is probably anime, or random ADHD facts none of my friends care about.
Me: *busy studying with my timer on*
My ADHD: *kicks in*
Me: *stares at pencil case for the whole time*
I have two moods:
Let's write 5 chapters of my book, finish all of my work, clean the whole house, build a whole city out of legos in just 2 hours
Or
Let's not do anything today *work piles up next to me*
yooo ADHD gang you HAVE to try out this cool trick
Put your hand on your head
Stare at the nearest wall for 30 seconds without blinking, patting your head to count the seconds
Stretch
Stand up
Put your phone down where you were sitting and spin around once
Clap three times
now you’re standing up so you might as well go do that thing you’ve been telling yourself you’re gonna do
seriously, take this post as the sign you’ve been waiting for and go do it
do NOT sit back down until you do
once you come back reblog this to save an ADHD life
Me: "OK let's get to sleep early today so we won't be grumpy tomorrow morning."
My ADHD:
Me: *listening to music with headphones*
My mom: "are you listening to music?"
Me: "yeah, it helps keep my thoughts in check by making me concentrate on the lyrics or the beat."
My mom: "and what do you think of without having music to distract you?"
Me: "things you don't want to know. Trust me, it gets weird."
*Me trying to explain my ADHD to my mom*
Me: "See the thing is, I see a lot of posts about people being late for events or coming late to class or something like that. But with me, I'm never late to classes. But my work and assignments... I hand them in on time, but always at the last minute because I have no time management."
My mom:" No that's just laziness."
Me:...
posts about ADHD have no business being 2k words some of us are unmedicated
the adhd impulse to ramble versus the adhd inability to read big blocks of text….. unstoppable force meets immovable object
My trick is to just
Put line breaks everywhere
Much easier
Writing is the one thing I’ve always been good at.
Once my classmate had to redo his argumentative essay bc he failed, so I wrote out a guide for him, an he went from 5/20 to 16/20.
Reading depends on my mood
figuring out i (probably) have adhd has actually helped me out in so many ways. because yeah i still struggle with doing stuff, i still forget things all the time, i still feel like shit when someone says the stupidest bad thing about me, but at least i understand why it happens. and honestly understanding a problem is half the job. i still cry for stupid reasons, but at least i understand why i'm doing it and that helps. i still can't get out of bed in the morning, but at least i know why and i'm not so hard on myself anymore and that's a good thing.
this was me when I first got diagnosed, I was happy that finally knew why all this stuff was happening
