Okay, so according to this post, @staff says they're listening to us, so...
Sound off, Tumblr! How do you feel about the latest update to the reblog and notes?
Hate it. đ
Like it. đ
No nuance. Go ahead and reblog the crap out of this.
occasional posts from users
reblog if you make occasional posts
Sometimes I still hear my voice
okay iâm gonna say it: fandoms are kinda dying on tumblr, and theyâre starving because nobody reblogs anymore.
like⊠i donât wanna be that person but be for real?? likes are cute and all but they do nothing for creators. ZERO. NADA. a reblog is literally the oxygen mask keeping this blue hellsite alive. you say you âloveâ a fic, an edit, a gifset? then BABES⊠reblog it. boost it. let it breathe.
half the time creators are out here pouring their entire soul, spine, AND three vertebrae into something just for it to get 200 likes and 3 reblogs, two of which are their own. thatâs why people stop posting. thatâs why fandoms feel empty. content doesnât magically fall from the sky â it comes from people who feel seen.
and i promise you: reblogging is free. it costs you like 0.2 seconds and suddenly youâre personally responsible for keeping a whole fandom alive. congrats!! so yeah. if you like something? reblog it. scream in the tags. yell. keyboard smash. put sparkles. do whatever. just donât let creators feel like theyâre shouting into a void.
reblogs feed creators. reblogs keep fandoms thriving. reblogs literally save lives (okay maybe not literally but u get it).
support the creators you love !!!!!! or else weâre all gonna be sitting in empty tags like clowns.
I greatly miss how tumblr used to be. My sideblog had so much constant interaction. I got messages and requests several times a week. We were all constantly talking to each other in the reblogs of each othersâ posts. In our small fandom we all knew each other and whenever someone new joined, weâd welcome them.
Fandom felt more like community. Strangers would message you things out of the clear blue sky, whether you were mutuals or not. Even on my main blog I had fewer but still a lot of interactions and conversations with people.
Now so many of my friends have abandoned the site or just stopped talking to anyone. And I get it to some degree: weâre all burnt out. The world is a wreck.
But beyond that everyone just seems scared to talk to each other unless they feel theyâve somehow earned the right? And no one reblogs things they like anymore out of some sort of abstract fear of being judged - on this anonymous blogging platform where no one has to know who you are if you donât want them to, and yet. Part of it is the younger generation joining the site. Completely different vibes now. But what the rest of the reasons are, Iâm not sure.
Actually couldn't agree more!
It's my 10 year anniversary on Tumblr đ„ł
Holy shit, it's been 10 years of this blog being alive. Crazy times to be honest. I've had my outlet here, and it's been so nice and amazing and it still is đ„č
chronic pain diagnoses are all like yeah we don't know what this is or why it happens. we also don't know how to treat it. good luck out there soldier
My freaking life lately...
College should be free and you should be able to study âuselessâ degrees just for the love of learning
Fun fact, in Denmark it's free to study - no matter the degree. Actually we can apply to get paid to do it. On the other hand, we can't study as much as we like, we can't study two bachelors in a row, in that case, a certain amount of years need to pass before we can apply to get paid again
you were meant to see this post. this post showed up on your screen for a reason. you are loved. whatever issue you may be going through right now, whether it be school or family or love, it will pass. it will pass, and you will be okay in the end. you will survive this.
guys i hate to be the bearer of bad news but it's easy to tell when something is AI written.
not calling anyone out personally as that's disrespectful, but it's so important to realise how damaging AI-stories are to others and yourself!
i totally understand if you need AI just to get some ideas on what to write, like getting some inspirational prompts or a basic plot-line for a story you've thought about writing but don't know where to start. i totally get that as writing can be suuuper complicated, especially when your brain just doesn't want to...brain. and sometimes, AI can be handy in these cases.
but to copy and paste a whole story from AI and post it here as if you'd written it? oh baby nooooo.
you have no idea how much better you are than AI! stories are meant to be raw and messy and challenging because that's what it means to be human, and it's evidenced in the way we write!
as humans, we were not created to write perfect, zero-mistakes, inauthentic pieces of storytelling because that's robotic; that's what AI is.
while AI excels in it's pacing and grammar and, all in all, the story, it misses one major thing: emotion.
emotion is so evidenced when we write because that's what human writing is based on! whether it be something angsty or fluffy or smut because we were feeling a bit shitty, or happy, or - god forbid - horny. when we write, it's our emotions that make the best of our stories!
which is why AI is so easy to capture, because there's no love put into it, and it's too perfect. i would rather someone's writing be a little messy than AI-written, because it means the author has given it a go and tried their best- that's what art and creation is all about!
and trust, you will feel so much better knowing you were able to complete a story written all by yourself, like how cool is that?!
please don't let AI make stories for you, i would so rather you do it than a stupid robot.
mwah xx
(i've only tagged media that i read and am apart of so if you want to help spread more awareness, please do reblog and tag other fandoms! xoxo)

reblog if it's okay for your mutuals to message you and create an actual friendship, not just interactions
Reblog if itâs ok for your mutuals to tag you in posts they think youâll like even if you donât talk often.
Honestly, Iâm really only interested in soulmate AUs with alternative plots.
I donât really care about person A and person B who have each otherâs names on their wrists and find each other and live happily ever after. I care about a culture where people donât bother forming romantic relationships with anyone other than their soulmate, where they finally find their soulmate and realize they donât know how to handle the ups and downs of a relationship.
I care about people who fall in love with someone who isnât their soulmate and arenât willing to leave.
I care about queer people who are outed by the names on their arms, about trans people who spend their whole lives worrying that their birth name will be on their soulmateâs arm, then sobbing in relief when itâs not.
I care about people in poly relationships and how that looks.
I care about asexual aromantic people who have a name anyway and wonder if theyâre broken or if itâs the platonic soulmate theyâve always wanted.
I care about people who Google their soulmate and are disappointed by what they find. I care about the private detective agencies that rake in cash to help people find their soulmates. I care about the ways non-soulmate couples are discriminated against, from disapproving grandmas to insurance companies that wonât insure someoneâs spouse unless theyâre their soulmate. I care about teenagers who are devastated that their celebrity crush isnât their soulmate and what happens when the media discovers a young, unknown person whose soulmate is hugely famous.
I care about the people who never meet their soulmates, whose soulmates died young, whose soulmates have another name on their arms.
I care about the ways that this is a broken system, how it fucks people up, how it doesnât guarantee a happy ending and how people find their happy endings anyway.
Somebody fucking write this story. Â Now.
oh my go d i nEED
I once made something similar, thought of doing a one shot of it, never got around to it though. If you've seen supernatural it was having Lucifer as your soulmate!
"I didn't comment on a fic I liked because I don't think the author would care or remember my comment anyway". fanfic writer here, I still remember comments I got on my fics from seven years ago. I still think about them and they still make me smile. your kind comments are what motivates us and what helps us keep writing.
I personally know writers who take screenshot and print out comments they got from their readers.
TL;DR comments matter to us writers more than you think. if you like a fanfic, never be shy to let the author know âĄ
bring back tumblr ask culture let me. bother you with questions and statements
reblog to let people know it's ok to bother you with questions and statements
contrary to popular belief, someone who is fluent in their second language (L2) is unlikely to slip into their first language (L1) Â in these circumstances:
if someone just said something to them in L2 (this a big unconscious cue, and youâd be really unlikely to respond in L1 right after that)
when swearing in the middle of a sentence (e.g. âoh merde, i forgot my keys!â)
during sex
when speaking to someone they normally speak to in L2
it is slightly more common in these circumstances:
swearing, as long itâs not part of a sentence (e.g. they might just mutter âmerdeâ if they forgot their keys)
if theyâre surprised (especially if falling/tripping or experiencing sudden pain!)
when speaking to someone they normally speak to in L1
in their sleep or talking to themselves
when very disoriented, such as when concussed or on certain drugs
that being said, it is very common for people to intentionally use their first language in front of people who donât speak it for a variety of reasons (they might use a short expression they only know in L1, call their partner pet names, dirty talk during sex because their partner finds it attractive) â but this is on purpose!
also this doesnât account for people who grew up in an environment where people often mix multiple languages in their speech (e.g. spanglish or franglais) â in that case, they may accidentally drop an L1 swear into an L2 sentence, though theyâll still generally stick to L2 when speaking to people who only speak that language
also: if you for some reason forget a word in L2 (or L3 or L4) in many cases your brain will automatically try to recall it from the last language you learned, not necessarily your mother tongue/L1. itâs a really nifty little phenomenon that has the bane of my existence for some time.
also: itâs more likely (at least to me & other bilingual people I know, and ESPECIALLY if your second language is english) for you to slip into L2 while speaking L1, or to pepper L2 terms into a L1 conversation because you happened to forget how to say those words in your native language.
Also if you grew up around multiple languages (especially when theyâre being mixed a lot), you might not know for sure which word is in which language. I certainly donât. Like, I learned in my mid-thirties that something I thought was a Tamil diminutive was actually a bit of Kannada that my family used as a diminutive? And that two words I thought meant slightly different items, were actually just the Tamil & Hindi words for the same thing?
Also! Small bi/multilingual children will mix things up in the cutest way. Hathiphant is my fave example :) (Hathi is Hindi for elephant)
official linguistics post
That thing about automatically reverting to the last language you learned when you forget a word is LEGIT.
In high school, I lived in Germany for nine months (long story) before moving back to the US, like, a week before school started. There was no international school in the extremely small Bavarian town where weâd lived (again, long story) so I went from essentially auditing high school in a completely German-speaking curriculum (I did not speak German and was frantically trying to pick it up from immersion, itâs a LONG story) to being back in an American high school.
I had, previously, been learning Spanish since kindergarten but my teachers were not good, so I never really progressed past introductory-level.
God bless my junior-year Spanish 1 teacher, honestly, and Iâm extremely lucky that the woman was a genius who spoke like seven languages fluently (she left after that year and became a college professor) because.
I got an A+ on my Spanish final. Then, on the last day of school, she pulled me aside and told me very kindly that she gave me full credit on my essay, which was 50% of the final grade, because I did an excellent job, showed off a lot of vocabulary, and all of my sentences and conjugations were absolutely correct and in the proper tenseâŠ
âI just need you to be aware that you did write half of it in German. Iâm not taking points off because it was GOOD German, and I could understand it, and I understand why that was happening, but I did want to make sure you know youâre doing that for next year.â
I feel this a lot! Having danish as my native language and then fluent in English, can at times prove difficult. I also learned Spanish and was pretty fluent in it, haven't spoken it since 2018 though!
