rain had been falling on and off since the afternoon, leaving your apartment wrapped in a soft kind of quiet that only comes with bad weather and nowhere else to be.
the windows were cracked just enough to let cool air drift through the curtains, carrying the smell of wet pavement inside. somewhere outside, cars drove softly down the wet streets below, muted by distance. inside, though, everything felt warm. dim lamp light glowed gold against the walls, the dishwasher hummed quietly in the kitchen, and martin moved around the apartment in one of his oversized hoodies, with the sleeves pulled up to his elbows.Â
you were perched on the kitchen counter watching him make tea. not helping, just watching.Â
âyou know,â martin said while rummaging through your cabinets above the stove looking for something, âmost people would at least pretend to assist.â you let your legs swing idly off the counter. âi am assisting.â
he glanced over his shoulder, one eyebrow lifting. âhow exactly?â
âmoral support?â
âright.â he snorted softly. âvital.â
you smiled to yourself as he turned back to the cabinet, still mumbling something under his breath. martin always liked acting like he hated being observed, but you knew better by now. if he genuinely wanted space, heâd take it. instead, he stayed close enough for your knee to keep bumping against his side every time he crossed your section of the kitchen.
the water bubbled quietly as the kettle heated on the stove.
you watched him move around the room with sleepy familiarity, grabbing mugs without looking, nudging drawers shut with his hip, brushing blonde strands of hair out of his face with the back of his wrist. there was something strangely intimate about evenings like this. no work. no stress. no pressure to be interesting.Â
just martin.Â
âyouâre staring,â he said suddenly.Â
âis that a problem?â
âit depends. should i be worried?â
you laugh softly, leaning back on your palms. âi don't know.â
âthere you go,â he muttered. âyouâre doing that thing again.â
âwhat thing?â
âwhere you go all quiet and justâŠâ he gestured vaguely towards you with the tea bag still in hand. âjust look at me.â
âoh, im sorry for liking my boyfriend.â
âi didn't say stop.â the response came too quickly, almost like he didnât mean to say it aloud. martin blinked once after realizing it, immediately turning back towards to counter to hide the faint pink creeping into face while you tried not to smile too hard.
the kettle started whistling before either of you could say anything else. martin pulled it off the stove with a quiet sigh, pouring hot water into the mugs carefully while steam curled around his hands.
you kept watching him.
you couldn't help it sometimes.
loving martin felt woven into tiny moments more than grand ones.Â
the way he handed you things automatically without asking. the way he checks if your tea is too hot before giving it to you. the way heâd quietly lean against your shoulder whenever he got tired without realizing he was doing it.
he passed you one of the mugs.

for a while, neither of you talked much. you stayed sitting on the counter, drinking tea, while martin scrolled aimlessly on his phone, occasionally showing you things that made no sense what-so-ever. a stupid meme that you tried to make something out of while he giggled at his screen. a blurry picture of juhoon sent in a group chat. internet drama he randomly got himself invested in.Â
the conversation wandered from the latest internet drama, to what you both wanted to eat for breakfast tomorrow, to martin recounting something that happed earlier during practice.
"âand then he looked me dead in the eyes," martin said, trying to keep a straight face, "and asked if penguins have knees."
you blinked.
"they donât⊠do they?" martin stared at you.
"...you're joking."
"no?" you frowned. "wait, do they?"
he set his mug down, already smiling. "you can't be serious. penguins have knees, love.â martin looked at you.
"martin, i have literally never thought about a penguin's knees before."
he looked at you for another second before the smile finally broke.
a laugh escaped him. real and unrestrained this time, head tipping back slightly as he covered his face with one hand. it wasnât loud. just warm enough to make his eyes disappear into crescents, his shoulders shaking as he tried, yet failed, to pull himself back together.Â
you found yourself smiling before you even realized you were.
youâve heard martin laugh hundreds of times before. around friends, in voice messages, on call. but this laugh was different.
he was still chuckling to himself when he noticed youâd gone quiet.
â...what?â
before you could stop yourself, you said quietly, âi really like your laugh.â
martin froze, actually froze.
âwhat?â
your face warmed almost immediately, but it was too late now.Â
âyoure laugh,â you repeated, suddenly shy. âi like it.â
he stared at you for a second too long.
âthatâsâŠhuh.â he blinked, looking away with a small, almost disbelieving smile. âno one's ever said that to me before.â
âwell..â you smiled. âi guess iâm the first then.â
martin looked at you for a long moment before letting out another quiet laugh, instantly looking away like he regretted it the second it happened. a faint blush crept up his cheeks and shook his head, smiling to himself.
ânow youâre making me self-conscious,â he murmured.Â
you reached over, brushing your thumb gently along his knuckles. âi just like hearing you laugh. that's all,â you laughed softly.Â
his expression softened completely.Â
âcome here,â he said quietly.Â
he stepped between your legs where you sat on the counter, one hand settling lightly at your waist as he leaned in. his forehead brushes yours for a second, still smiling and still shy, before he closed the small space between you.
the kiss was slow and unhurried, like he didnât need to rush it anywhere.
his hand tightened just slightly at your wasit, steadying you as he leaned closer, and you felt him exhale through his nose like he was finally letting go of all the embarrassment at once.Â
it was warm, familiar, like heâd done it a hundred times before but still meant it every time.
when he pulled back, he lingered close enough that your noses almost touched. his smile is still there, softer now.
for a second, neither of you moved.
his thumb gave a small absentminded press at your waist, like he wasnât fully ready to step away yet. you could still feel the warmth of his breath and see that faint blush that hadnât quite faded from his cheeks.
then he let out a quiet breathy laugh again, smaller this time, like it slipped out before he could stop.
you smiled immediately.
âwhat now?â
âyou laughed again.â
âdonât start.â martin looked down, shaking his head to himself with another embarrassed breath of laughter.
and even now, after everything, hearing it still made your chest feel warm.

this is a becoming a serious issue within coerblr, cortis is a group filled with majority minors. anyone using the argument that âmartin & juhoon are 18â are apart of the problem, both of them are korean citizens, and in korea the age of consent is 19. they are both minors.
i donât see why someone turns 18 magically makes individuals feel okay with making sexual content about them. 18 â being an adult, both of them are freshly 18! the amount of juhoon smuts iâve been and have reported has been astounding.

Once you wave her down and she trots her way to your table, Ives excitedly slams two small pieces of paper on your book.
âHey! I was reading that!â You frown as you bookmark the page youâre on to make proper space for what looks suspiciously like concert tickets.
âOh my dog! YN, did you hear that CORTIS, the k-pop boy group, is coming to Tokyo, Japan and thatâs where we live?!â
âCORTIS?â You respond with a sigh. âIs that the group youâve been obsessed with lately? Iâm not into them because I only listen to real music these days.â
âYes thatâs them, and thatâs okay because after tonight you will finally realise that they ARE real music!â Ives says with a smug look. She picks up the concert tickets - CORTIS FRONT ROW SEATS SIX AND SEVEN - written in huge letters printed on them.Â
This only confuses you more. You had plans tonight of studying as usual, because your mom needs you to become a pharmaceutical doctor madam president by the time youâre 25.Â
âOh no, no, no, no. Donât even think about it girl. Iâm not going to this concert! My mom would kill me if she found out. And more importantly I have nothing to wear.â You say immediately, rapidly turning your head in case Ives canât hear you.Â

Youâve been standing at the barricade for hours.Â
At the concert, the crowd is buzzing in anticipation as you all await for the artists to take the stage. Typically, these kinds of events are anxiety-inducing for you because of how loud and overwhelming they can be⊠but seeing how connected and excited these girls around you are, form a sense of community you never expected to find. Itâs endearing how much music can unite people, and your heart grows fond of how concerts have become youthâs third space to let go of societal expectations and be themselves again for a night.Â
Then you suddenly remember you donât speak Korean. âOh no, Ives. I donât speak Korean.â You whisper, just in case the other fans around you are judgemental.
âI will translate for you. They will come onto the stage in 2 minutes!â She reassures you.Â
2 minutes. Thatâs heaps of time so you take out your book and open up to the chapter you were at before.Â
As you reach page 420 of The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx, suddenly a loud voice erupts in autotune.Â
âCOER! WHATâS UP!âÂ
There are shrieks all around you, making you look up from your book to see an extremely vertically long blonde boy run onto the stage.Â
âHe said coer, what is up.â Ives translates for you. Sheâs not whispering though because with all the screaming going on around you, no one will hear. But you suddenly realise you donât need her to interpret anymore because the boy on stage is speaking your language. Phew!
The speakers boom and a loud noise drones into your eardrums. 4 other boys run out and the cheers become impossibly louder.Â
âNae ti⊠five bucks.â One of them starts to sing, and they all start performing a synchronised dance. There are purple beam lights flashing across the stadium, which luckily lets you still see the pages of your book.Â
You have to admit, the song is catchy, and its lyrics pair well with the anti-capitalist book youâre currently continuing to read.Â
On the stage, Kim Juhoon is about to sing his âDongmyo, wassupâ line until he catches a glance at you in the crowd. Unlike everyone else who is singing along, youâre focused on what looks like a novel in front of you. He likes to read as well so he thinks you look like an angle.Â
Luckily he doesnât get too distracted to the point where he forgets his lines, so the song continues perfectly. Once itâs over Juhoon is out of breath from all the fast moves, even though theyâre muscle memory to him at this point in his career. Finally, you finish the page you were on and you look up to see what all the commotion was about. Your eyes meet his, and Juhoon feels flustered all over again.Â
You look so pretty in this light. Juhoon also really likes your outfit. FaSHioN indeed!Â
Your eyes widen when you realise itâs been really long of playing eye tag and the boy you accidentally stared at hasnât looked away.Â
Suddenly, the tall blonde member gives the boy a teasing punch which knocks him out of his trance. You have scientifically detected the boy with the spikey hair is named Martin.Â
âIves, who is the boy standing next to Martin?â You ask your best friend, who is beaming at the stage.Â
âWhy, it's Juhoon of course!â She informs you.Â
Juhoon.
What a beautiful name, you think to yourself. It rhymes with so many words, for example spoon and balloon.
The boy group sings six more songs, and each time Juhoon-Spoon-Balloon makes sure youâre always in his direct eyeline. For some reason he feels a connection between you two and really wants to impress you. It seems to be working because you have stopped reading entirely and actually paid attention to the show. You have to admit you found the song âJoyrideâ lovely.Â
Then the concert is over.Â
âWow! That was short.â You say as you make your way out with Ives.
âYeah, they only have seven songs. Time to go home but wait! I need to go to the bathroom.â
âOk. I will wait here for you.â You tell Ives, as you stand next to a plant.Â
The hallway you are in is almost empty because everybody else went through the other exit. Because you think youâre alone you start to sing some of the songs you heard before because they got stuck in your head:
âWow.â A voice says from behind you, âYouâre really good.â
You scream at the stranger. But then you realised it was one of the boys who was in the group. Heâs not Martin or Juhoon, but he canât stop smiling, so you realise it must be Keonho if you remember correctly from the lore Ives was telling you about.Â
âIâm Keonho.â Keonho introduces himself to you.Â
Yayy you guessed correctly!Â
âWhat the fudge, dude?! You scared me!â You tell him.
His eyes widen at your words. Quickly, he puts his forefinger to his mouth as if warning you to be quiet. âWe canât say those wordsâŠâ He whispers, eyes scanning the room to make sure no one could hear.Â
âWhat word? Fudge?â You respond in confusion.Â
Both his hands cover his mouth now in a gasp. He did not expect you to repeat it. Frantically nodding his head. At first you thought it was because the company was strict about swearing, but then Keonho says:
âTheyâll hear youâŠâÂ
Who will? You two are the only ones there. Until you feel the vibration of heaps of footstomps coming your way.
âOh no! The goonas!â Keonho screams in fear. He grabs your hand and pulls you behind him as he runs to the door.Â
âHey! STOP kidnapping me!â You shout in protest.Â
âItâs for a good cause! Weâre going to the van! Safer in there, trust me.âÂ
Getting dragged away to a vehicle turns out to be an extremely good choice once you see the crowd of women running in your direction. Eyes focused on their mission of getting a photo with the idol. So you hop in with no second thought.
âHey, there you are.â A handsome, velvety, mature voice says. âWhere did you go, Keonho? You need to stop wandering around after shows. Wait a second⊠youâre not Keonho!â
Inside the van, you are faced with what looks like the oldest member of the group. His hair falls perfectly on his face, and the way his dark eyes are set on you make his features look like they were sculptured by an artist. His cheekbones, nose, and dimples are all so entrancing.Â
âItâs ok, James-hyung. Iâm here. And sheâs with me.â Keonho explains, climbing in after you.Â
âAnd who is she?â The last member you now know, Seonghyeon, asks.Â
Youâre about to tell them your name, but you get interrupted.
âItâs you. My angle.âÂ
Everyoneâs heads whips to the back, where Juhoon is sitting calmly. The seatbelt is already strapped in so he canât move up to greet you properly, but he pats the empty seat next to him, inviting you to sit down.Â
As Keonho takes the spot in between Seonghyeon and James, you have no choice but to go to Juhoon.Â
âHelloâŠâ He says, more gently to you when youâre next to him.
âHi. You are Juhoon-Spoon-Balloon.â You answer, quietly, as if this moment is just between you and him.
He nods in confirmation, âBut you can call me Jju if you like.â
âOkay, Jju. I am YN.âÂ
He repeats your name with a small smile on his face. Itâs nice to finally know what heâs calling his dream girl.Â
âSorry about the fans, they can be crazy sometimes. Weâll take you home so that you get there safely.â
âAw tysm.â Then you storytell your address to the driver, who happens to be Martin, and the van lurches forward. Maybe getting kidnapped by these guys isnât so bad after all.
On the drive home, you talk to Juhoon as the others fall asleep because theyâre tired from singing and dancing. Heâs so easy to talk to and you feel like youâve known him your entire life. You talk about everything and anything you could in the 10 minutes it takes to get to your place.Â
As you pull up in front of your house, you start to feel a sadness take over your heart knowing that your time with Juhoon is over. The feeling is mutual for the boy sitting next to you, until an idea pops into his head.Â
âCan we come inside?â Juhoon asks when youâre about to take your leave, âIâm thirsty.âÂ
You go over the logic in your head⊠even though they kidnapped you, they were kind enough to drive you home safely. So you agree.Â
You brace yourself for what youâre going to say to your mom when you go in. Possibly a lie about cram school? You just hope she doesnât yell at you in front of them, that would be so embarrassing.Â
âIâll be right back because I need to change clothes! The kitchen is that way,â you point across for Juhoon to see. You hope that the 5 of them can handle introducing themselves to your mom on their own, as you go to change out of your outside clothes and into comfortable pusheen pyjamas. Â
Finally feeling fresh, and brave to face your mom, you put your hair up into a bun. Even though this was the first attempt, it falls in a perfect amount of messy and neat. Then you make your way down stairs.
You suddenly stop at the scene in front of you. You had expected the boys (Martin, James, Juhoon, Seonghyeon, and Keonho) to be standing in the living room about to make their leave after stealing some sips of tap water but instead⊠They're sitting down at the living table looking extremely serious.Â
Your mom turns to you with a huge smile on her face. You see some paperwork in front of her and when you read what the contract says, thereâs only one noise that can come out of your mouth.
