For anyone wondering why I haven’t been posting anything lately
I promise I will get to writing the requests still sitting in my inbox and responding to all the messages I’ve gotten so far but... I need some time.
Due to... what’s been going on in the world lately, my mental health has been deteriorating rapidly. Being bombarded with negative news from every corner of the world is just fueling my depression, as is being locked up in my own house, I’m constantly worried about my parents and friends who are in the high-risk group, my anxiety levels haven’t been this high since my stay in Japan (which was, like, my life lowest point in terms of mental health) and I honestly can’t focus on anything besides the most basic activities like sleeping or eating. I’m struggling even to write this post, let alone headcanons and scenarios. I realize that everyone in the world is going through the same shit right now and I’m probably just overreacting but I just can’t help it.
Why am I writing this post? Because I feel like I owe an explanation to all the people who’ve sent in requests and heart-warming messages, helping me write and create and who may be still waiting for a response from me. I promise I’ll try to post regularly on this blog again once I’m back on track with my life but for now... I’m sorry.
Can I request one for Haikyuu where Hinata shows up to practice disheveled and late...even more than usual so the team decides to follow him to see that he has a boyfriend (who’s actually shorter than him). Sorry if this doesn’t seem that good but thanks anyway for reading this. :)

隠しきれぬもの — What You Can Never Hide
“Where the hell is Hinata?!”
The atmosphere in the gym was heavy as a mountain. If you found yourself anywhere in the five-meter radius of Daichi, you would probably feel the dark miasma seep into your lungs and penetrate your veins. That is probably why no one even tried to approach Daichi, keeping their distance from the angry captain.
As much as Daichi looked angry on the outside, on the inside, he was actually more surprised than angry. Everyone was surprised, truth be told. It wasn’t uncommon for Hinata to be late to classes. It wasn’t uncommon for him to forget his homework. It wasn’t uncommon for him to get lost on his way home. But he never skipped practice—not without notifying anyone about it.
It was all the stranger that it wasn’t even the morning practice—in that case, Daichi would be worried that he had gotten lost in the mountains or something. But it was the afternoon practice and Hinata was perfectly fine just about half an hour ago in class. According to Kageyama, he had rushed out of the classroom as soon as the bell had rung and had been nowhere to be found afterwards.
“Calm down, Daichi, he’ll be here in no time!” said Suga, the only person bold enough to get close enough to Daichi to pat him on the shoulder. Besides, it turned out he was right.
Just as Suga finished saying those words, the door to the gym was smashed open and a ball of flaring orange rushed in.
The panting wasn’t the only thing the team noticed about Hinata, though. There definitely was something off.
Hinata’s hair was always in disarray but this time, it somehow managed to be even more tousled than usually. The belt in his pants was barely buckled, his shirt wasn’t even properly buttoned up and his face was all red—a little bit too red, even if he had run all the way here.
“What took you so long?” asked Daichi, trying to keep his cool—which wasn’t actually that hard. He felt strangely relieved. If Hinata hadn’t come to the practice, Daichi felt like his world would have been turned upside down. Hinata foregoing his training was something that just didn’t fit in Daichi’s world anymore.
“I, uhm, I got stuck in the toilet,” Hinata answered looking away to the side, not meeting Daichi’s eyes. Daichi wasn’t exactly satisfied with Hinata’s answer but before he could inquire anymore, the second-years arrived.
“Your stomach acting up again?” Nishinoya asked, bumping his shoulder against Hinata’s.
“What the hell did you eat this time?” Tanaka followed with a smirk, his hands on his hips, leaning in to see Hinata’s face while Hinata was doing his best to avert his gaze.
“I don’t know… Might have been something I ate yesterday… I don’t remember…” he mumbled.
Daichi frowned. Hinata clearly wasn’t acting weird. He was late to practice, he wasn’t being his usual cheery self, he was all disheveled and dodgy about what he’d been doing… This needed further investigation.
But not now.
“Just leave him be,” Daichi said to Tanaka and Nishinoya. “We’ve already lost too much time. Let’s start the practice. And you,” he turned to Hinata, “go get changed. Why the hell would you come to the gym in your school uniform?”
“Roger!” Hinata exclaimed, happy to get out of the interrogation. He rushed out of the gym to grab his training clothes from the club room while everyone started warming up.
Daichi was curious. But his curiosity had to wait.
It turned out Daichi wasn’t the only one curious.
The moment the practice came to its end, Hinata excused himself and rushed out of the gym without any additional training or even helping to clean up. No one tried to stop him—everyone was just too suspicious of his unusual behavior to say a word.
Daichi was looking at Hinata go when Tanaka came up to him.
“Daichi-san, Daichi-san! Don’t you think Hinata’s been acting strange today? Don’t you wanna find out what’s going on?” Tanak said with a smirk on his face. He was clearly onto something.
“I am. But if Hinata doesn’t want to talk, how else can we find out what’s going on?” answered Daichi, his arms crossed on his chest.
“It’s simple! We’ll tail him!” Nishinoya cut in with a smirk to match Tanaka’s and Daichi let out a sigh.
“Normally, I would never agree but in this situation…” he trailed off, looking around, finally lying his eyes on Sugawara. “Suga! Go with them and keep an eye on them!”
“Roger!” Suga, who had been listening to Tanaka, Nishinoya, and Daichi’s conversation anyways, agreed right away. “I was going to tag along anyways!” He admitted.
And so they dispatched. They managed to catch up to Hinata by the school gate and followed him from there, keeping their distance. Hinata was in a hurry and looked straight ahead most of the time so they didn’t really have to hide even once on their way but they had to be careful not to lose sight of him.
“Where do you think he’s going?” Tanaka asked, watching Hinata go past Sakanoshita Store without stopping even once, trotting down the hill.
“Well, he’s certainly not going home,” Sugawara answered, giving a small bow to Ukai Coach’s mother as they passed the store themselves. “He left his bike at school and I doubt he’d try to cross the mountains on foot. He’s not that stupid.”
They went by Tama Mart and Takinoue Electronics, leaving the town center behind and arriving at the foot of the mountains surrounding Karasuno but Hinata kept walking. A few more minutes went by before a torii gate came into their view. At this sight, Hinata quickened his pace, running up to the gate as fast as he could. It was then that Suga noticed there was someone standing by the gate. He gestured toward Tanaka and Nishinoya to hide around the corner.
There was a boy standing by the torii, at the foot of the stairs leading to the shrine. He was fiddling with his hair although he stopped and his face lit up when he saw Hinata running up to him. He was even shorter than Shōyō and if he wasn’t wearing Karasuno’s uniform Suga would think he was a middle school student at best.
Hinata ran up to the boy, visibly exhilarated, although Suga couldn’t hear what they were talking about from this distance. He could, however, see that Hinata, after quickly looking around to make sure there was no one in the vicinity, greeted him with a kiss.
A lot of things ran through Suga’s head at that moment but what made his heart skip a beat was the fear of Tanaka and Nishinoya’s reaction. He quickly shook the shock off and looked to the side where the two second-years had been standing but they weren’t already there. He jumped out from behind the corner and saw Tanaka and Nishinoya running up to Hinata and his boyfriend with an ungodly speed. He followed them immediately.
“Tanaka, Nishinoya, don’t you dare…” But he was already too late.
“Why the hell do you have a boyfriend and I don’t?!” Tanaka charged into Hinata and crushed the poor boy with his arm, wrapping it around his shoulder and pulling him towards himself, ruffling Hinata’s hair playfully with the other. Nishinoya quickly followed the example set by his friend jumping onto Hinata with a loud “Why didn’t you introduce him to us earlier?!”
Sugawara was pleasantly surprised. Given the second-years’ rowdy personalities, he wouldn’t be surprised if they said something they shouldn’t.
Relieved, he turned to the shorter boy.
“It’s the first time we’ve met, right? I’m Sugawara Kōshi, vice-captain of the volleyball club. These two rascals are also our members, Tanaka and Nishinoya. Nice to meet you.”
“Nice to meet you.” Hinata’s boyfriend seemed a little surprised but he gathered himself together quite quickly. “I’m Y/N, Hinata’s boyfriend.”
Meanwhile, Hinata was screaming internally in dismay.
“Why are you telling them, Y/N-kun?! I’m not gonna hear the end of it now!” cried Hinata.
You shrugged.
“It’s you who kissed me in public. I mean, I don’t mind it, I’m just saying it’s not my fault.”
“I’m really sorry for these two,” continued Suga, pointing to Tanaka and Nishinoya. “We didn’t mean to disrupt your… date?” he adding questioningly.
“Yeah, we were going to pray at the shrine so we can win the next match and then go for a date,” Hinata said dejectedly, deciding it was pointless to lie at this point. His teammates didn’t seem to mind anyways.
“Why are you making your boyfriend pray for you?!” Tanaka elbowed Hinata, making him flinch.
“Y/N said he wanted to pray for me too!” Hinata excused himself.
“I did,” you confirmed. And you really did. If there was anything you could do to help your boyfriend, you wanted to do it, even if it was just praying at a small shrine in the mountains.
“Why don’t we go together then?” Nishinoya suggested and everyone’s eyes turned to him. Tanaka’s face lit up.
“Let’s do this!” the bald boy exclaimed. “Nice idea, Noya! I mean, it’s not like we need gods’ help but it won’t hurt, right?”
“You’re gonna come with us?!” Your face lit up and Hinata felt a clutch in his chest. To him, you were the cutest in this world and he couldn’t help but melt whenever he saw you smile. “I’ve been wanting to meet Hinata’s teammates for ages but he just wouldn’t let me!” You added.
“That’s right, Shōyō! Why didn’t you introduce us?!” Noya asked.
“I… I didn’t know how you’d react…” Hinata said sheepishly.
“What are you talking about?” Tanaka tilted his head, genuinely bewildered. “Oh, you mean that he’s shorter than you? I was surprised at first, like, how can anyone be shorter than Hinata! You know? But jeez, who cares! Let’s just go and pray!” he added and started climbing the stairs; Nishinoya followed him, gesturing to Sugawara to do the same.
You smiled to yourself. You’d be lying if you said you weren’t at all worried about how Hinata’s teammates would react to you two dating. But now that it all actually got out, it turned out you hadn’t had anything to worry about in the first place.
Hinata pulled your hand.
“I’m sorry it had to be like this. I wanted to spend some time alone with you,” he whispered into your ear.
You smiled and pulled him into a hug.
“I don’t mind it. I’m sure it’ll be fun. Those Tanaka and Nishinoya seem like fun people and Sugawara-san looks really kind. Besides, we can spend some time alone together at night.”
Hinata pulled away.
“Anyways! Let’s go! The sempais are waiting for us!” he said and started climbing the stairs. You decided to follow him. Nishinoya was waving at you from up the stairs.
You couldn’t see Hinata’s face from behind but you could tell he was blushing. He was red up to the tips of his ears.

I’m sorry it took me so long to write your request. I feel like I apologize for being to slow every time I post something here, though. I guess I’ll just stop apologizing and put up a disclaimer about how long it always takes me to write anything and why *sigh*

Dimitri had a problem.
Well, maybe not exactly a “problem”. More like he was worried.
Dimitri was both the crown prince of his kingdom and a class president at the Academy. It was his duty to care for both his subjects and classmates.
The person he’d had on his mind for a while now was both.
There was this boy in his class, Y/N, that, since the very beginning of the school year, had always sat in the back seat in class alone, always eaten alone in the dining hall, barely spoken to anyone and had always been nowhere to be found otherwise.
So, Dimitri was worried.
He certainly didn’t want to lecture him on the importance of socializing — he hadn’t been very outgoing as a child, either, and he remembered hating it when people had told him to “stop keeping to himself and try to talk to people more.” He had eventually come to be more sociable as this was what his position as the crown prince required but he didn’t think it was necessary for everyone and anyone to do so. No, what he was worried about was that the monthly tasks could turn out to be dangerous, deadly even for someone who was always alone. He’d noticed it during their first fight but this poor shy guy had just kind of tagged along at the very back of the company, always a few steps behind everyone else. If anyone had attacked them from behind, he would have been the very first victim — and as he always kept his distance, no one would have been able to save him in time. There were certain cases when being alone could turn out deadly, and this was one of them.
Besides, he looked pretty lonely.
It wasn’t like Dimitri had ever asked Y/N if he felt lonely or anything. He had, however, had his share of reading people's moods and faces as it was one of the many skills one would need if they wanted to survive in the royal court. And from what Dimitri had gathered so far, Y/N wasn’t exactly exulted about being alone all the time. If there were one feeling Dimitri knew all too well, it was loneliness and he hated seeing it in other people.
The thing was, even though he’d learned to be more sociable over the years, it didn’t mean he really knew how to actively make friends with other people. He knew, however, what to do when he wasn’t exactly the best at something: ask for help.
He was now, however, questioning his choice of who to ask for help
“You should’ve told me that sooner!” Sylvain exclaimed, banging Dimitri’s back with one hand, the other placed on his hip nonchalantly. “So, which girl do you want to chat up?”
“First of all, it’s not a girl. Second of all, you should look up ‘personal space’ in a dictionary, Sylvain,” Dimitri said, shaking Sylvain’s hand off.
“Oh, come on,” said Sylvain, backing off a bit. “I thought Our Highness finally fell in love with someone! You know I’m not into guys!”
“Need I remind you about that time when you tried to seduce a guy dressed up as a girl?” said Ingrid who was just passing by, bringing Sylvain down to earth. “If you want some advice, I can try to help you, Your Highness. I might not be the best but certainly better than this guy,” she added, sending an annoyed look in Sylvain’s direction.
“Thank you, Ingrid,” said Dimitri, a little baffled. He looked at Sylvain who seemed like he couldn’t decide if he should sulk or get angry, then back to Ingrid who was looking at him expectingly. “You see… Do you know Y/N?”
“And who the hell is tha—ouch!” Sylvain grunted as Ingrid’s elbow rammed painfully into his hip.
“Of course I do,” answered Ingrid calmly, paying no attention to the cursing Sylvain. “It’s that one boy who always sits alone in the back of the class, right?”
“Yes, that’s correct. And that’s precisely what I’m worried about,” said Dimitri. “Not only that but even during our expeditions, he’s always alone. I’m glad nothing serious has happened so far but it can turn out dangerous.”
“I bet you just want to befriend him—ouch! What the fuck, Ingrid?!” Sylvain finally snapped.
“Watch your language,” Ingrid responded coldly with just as cold a glint in her eyes as she faced Sylvain. “It’s just you never seem to be able to read the mood,” she added and turned back to Dimitri. “I think I understand what you mean but I’m afraid I’m not entirely sure how to…”
“If you’re that worried about him during the expeditions, how about you invite him for a sparring?” suggested Sylvain, rubbing the spot on his side Ingrid had hit so many times with a pained look on his face. “Some sword practice or lance practice, whatever you prefer. That’d give you an excuse to talk to him more often. Even more so if you make it a regular thing… What?” he asked as Ingrid stared at him with her eyes wide open.
“So you actually can be useful every now and then,” she said, genuinely surprised.
“And you’re actually being very, very rude right now!” Sylvain growled at her. “Why are you always treating me like this?!”
“Because it’s you,” Ingrid responded, completely serious.
“You little…”
Dimitri, however, wasn’t listening to their conversation anymore. How could he not think about something as simple? It wasn’t uncommon for him to help other students during combat practice so it shouldn’t be strange if he expressed his willingness to help Y/N with their sword fighting. Be it a swordsman, an archer, or a mage, swordsmanship was a subject at the Academy everyone had to pass in order to graduate. He didn’t have to reveal his real intentions. All he had to do was to ask him out for practice and work it out from there.
Now that he had a plan, all that was left for him to do was to execute it. That was something he was good at.
The late afternoon sun was shining gently upon the monastery as its corridors filled with the usual murmur of students leaving their classrooms after the cathedral bells had announced the end of classes for the day. As soon as the sound reached Dimitri’s ears, the young prince rose to his feet and hurriedly gathered his books and notes, just in time to turn around and see Y/N do the same in the very back of the room.
Holding the books firmly against his chest as not to drop them, Dimitri made his way down the alley between the many desks that filled the classroom. The lone boy was just about to leave as Dimitri patted gently his shoulder, making him turn around with a hint of surprise on his face.
“Are you going to the training grounds today?”
The boy blinked repeatedly as he stared at Dimitri. It was clear he didn’t exactly know what was happening, why Dimitri would ever talk to him. His mouth was slightly agape and Dimitri could tell he wanted to say something but the words just couldn’t make it past his throat. Finally, he lowered his eyes and clenched the books he held harder against his chest as he spoke.
“I… I wasn’t exactly planning to…”
“And why is that?” Dimitri asked, hoping he would hear the answer he was hoping to hear.
“That’s because… I have no one to train with,” Y/N answered and Dimitri high-fived himself internally.
“That’s not going to be a problem anymore. You will be training with me from now on.”
“You… what?” It had been a while since Dimitri had seen someone as dumbfounded as this guy standing right not in front of him, clearly not able to process what had just been said to him.
“Go to your room and leave your books there. I’ll do the same and pick you up from your room afterwards,” said Dimitri, purposefully not giving Y/N time to process what he’d just said. “See you later,” he added and walked away before the boy could protest. With his face turned away from Y/N, Dimitri smiled to himself and quickened his pace. The sooner he got to his room, the less time Y/N would have to run away from him.
And he wasn’t the type to let go once he’d caught his prey.
The warm reddish light engulfed the monastery as the sun slowly sank behind the horizon. Two little birds sat perched on the edge of the roof surrounding the training grounds, looking down onto the two figures jumping and moving around the arena.
You panted heavily as Dimitri blocked one strike of your sword after another. Although his weapon of choice was the lance, he was surprisingly good with the sword, too.
“Can… call it… a day… for now?” you asked in between sharp breaths.
“Already?” Dimitri responded and you sighed internally. It was the third time you’d had this conversation during the training. This time, however, Dimitri seemed to finally cave in. “I guess it is getting quite dark. Let’s finish for today and resume the training tomorrow.”
You felt a tug at your heart.
“We’ll train together again tomorrow?” you asked, looking at Dimitri with expectation in your eyes.
“Of course, that is, unless you don’t want to.”
“No, no, of course I want to! I mean, if it’s not too much trouble for you…” Your voice trailed away when you realized Dimitri could have been doing all of it for you out of pity.
“Not at all. In fact, I’ll be looking forward to it,” Dimitri responded, sending you an encouraging smile and you felt your heart skip a beat once more. You felt like your voice could fail you so you just nodded. You both put your training swords away and walked out of the arena and towards your dormitories, exchanged a few words every now and then about things trivial, like what you would have for dinner tomorrow, and not so trivial, like what strategy you should use during the next expedition; you also decided to open up to him a little bit about why you were always alone and Dimitri listened to you with an expression that didn’t reveal much. When you reached the door of your room, however, he took your hand into his and squeezed it reassuringly.
“If you need help with anything, you can always come to me. With anything, really,” he said and added: “And don’t forget our training tomorrow. Good night.”
“Good night,” you answered and watched Dimitri go as you squeezed the hand Dimitri held with the other. You could still feel the faint sensation of his skin touching yours and a strange feeling of warmth emanating from the hand and flooding your entire body. You were exhausted after the harsh training Dimitri had provided you with but even more than that, a feeling of soothing happiness filled your heart. If what Dimitri’s words were true, you wouldn’t have to be alone anymore. And it was none other but Dimitri who was going to keep you company—Dimitri who you had thought you would never have a chance to befriend, let alone…
You let yourself sink deep down into your inner thoughts as the last trails of sunlight seeped away from the sky giving way to the flood of darkness that painted the firmament in a deep shade of navy blue, disturbed only by the stars that popped up one after another as the night grew deeper. You would probably stand there for much longer if it hadn’t been for the cold that seeped through your clothes and prompted you to come inside and wrap your body with a warm blanket. And you fell asleep just like that and in your dreams, the blanket was quickly replaced by Dimitri’s arms around your chest and his warm body pressed against your back
A few weeks had passed.
You and Dimitri kept on training together every day. The more time you spent with each other, the more you talked on your way back to the dorm. The more you talked, the more you felt drawn to each other. The more you felt drawn to each other, the more time you spent with each other—and so the cycle was complete. You started sitting at the same desk in class. You started eating together in the dining hall. You started studying together in the library. Ashe started joining you from time to time during dinner time and Ingrid often came to study with you both. You also got to know Dedue a little, obviously, as he was often to be found by Dimitri’s side.
Now that your first problem was gone, however, another had appeared. You’d liked Dimitri before but the more time you spent with him, the more you realized that your feelings could not be boiled down to a simple “like” anymore. Whenever Dimitri touched your arms and shoulders to adjust your stance during your training sessions, your body felt much hotter than the air temperature would justify. You found it harder and harder to focus every time you studied together. You felt really awkward in Dimitri’s room, surrounded by his things and his scent.
The biggest problem was, however, that you couldn’t know if Dimitri reciprocated your feelings—that is, you couldn’t unless you told him how you felt—and you didn’t want to ruin your friendship with Dimitri and everything that came with it.
That’s why you just kept telling yourself that you’d tell him someday.
The more you waited, however, the more you realized that day would probably never come.
Unbeknownst to you, Dimitri was facing a similar problem.
Actually, he was facing two problems right now, and one of them had red hair.
“Okay we’ve known each other for quite a while but I never realized you were gay!” exclaimed Sylvain but before Dimitri could punch him in the face, he added, “And? Who’s the lucky guy?”
“…Y/N…” Although his stomach was twisting out of humiliation, Dimitri decided against both against running away to Duscur and burying Sylvain alive and simply admit that he did need his help. “And I don’t know what to do about it.”
“Why don’t you just go and confess your feelings to him?” said Sylvain and Dimitri was sure at that moment that the redhead had finally lost his mind.
“It’s precisely because I can’t do that that I’m asking for your advice,” he growled through gritted teeth.
“But why not?” asked Sylvain, genuinely baffled. “If he doesn’t feel the same about you, you both can just go on with your lives. It’s not like you’ll become strangers suddenly. You’ll still attend the same classes and train in the same training grounds. You can just keep on being friends. Besides!” Sylvain raised a finger to underscore what he was about to say and as annoying as it was, Dimitri had to admit his friend actually looked like he knew what he was talking about. “I’m pretty sure Y/N is into guys, too.”
It took Dimitri a few very long seconds to take it in.
“He’s… what?” Dimitri said, so dumbfounded that he almost failed to notice how crazily fast his heart was beating right now.
“I said he’s most probably into guys. I don’t know if he’s only into guys but, you know, there’s still that,” said Sylvain, shrugging. “Which means there’s an actual chance he’d date you. A pretty high chance, I’d say, given how close you two have been these past few weeks. And your looks,” he added with a wink.
“How could you possibly know that?” Dimitri asked this question half because he couldn’t believe Sylvain was telling the truth and half because he actually did and really wanted to know how his friend came into possession of this information.
“That… will remain a secret for now,” said Sylvain after a short moment of contemplation. Before Dimitri could say anything, he added, “I wouldn’t want to say anything that could ruin Y/N’s image in your mind. So now… go!”
“Now?!” Sylvain was making Dimitri feel more and more out of his element with every sentence he said and he really couldn’t comprehend why.
“Now or never! That or I’ll tell him myself! That you like him!” Sylvain was clearly having fun.
“Do that and I’ll bury you alive.” The words came out of Dimitri’s mouth before he even could think about them.

The thing is, regarding the four fandoms I have on my list, I could probably write for any character you choose and be fine with it. As for the other ones... For example, I love the Zelda franchise but I'd probably only be able to write hcs and scenarios for Link. Similarly, I've been playing a lot Touken Ranbu lately but I have pretty strong inclinations toward certain characters there and wouldn't be able to write for just anyone so I decided against putting Touken Ranbu on my fandom list.
TL;DR If you want to be sure I write your request, you'd probably be better off requesting one from my fandom list. You can request basically anything outside the list, too, if it’s on my MAL list, but I can't guarantee I'll write it.
Also, just saying but I'll probably never write for any franchise outside the so-called Far East. My cultural worldview is largely Japan-centric, including a few Chinese franchises and, to a smaller extent, Korean ones, but if you want me to write something for Western franchises, my answer will most probably be "Sorry, I have no idea what you're talking about" XD

Mymain reason to start this blog was actually my frustration caused bybeing unable to find decent HQ!! reader inserts where the reader islegitimately gender-neutral. Yes, even gender-neutral. There are some nicemale reader inserts out there but they’re few and far between.So I usually end up looking for gender-neutral insterts, headcanons, and scenarios but… Some of them areblatantly meant for female readers. “You can and you will!”Yachi’s eyes bored into you and you turned your gaze away, feelingas though those two goldenorbs were penetrating your very soul. “Why do you have to make itharder than it actually is? You like him, you confess, you gettogether. Simple!”
“Like hell it would go thatsmoothly,” you scoffed. “I don’t even know if he’s gay.”
“Oh come on, have you not seenhow close he is with Sugawara-san?”
“But that’s precisely theproblem!” You looked Yachi in the eye confrontingly. “If he’snot gay, I don’t even have a chance, and even if he is, I stilldon’t have a chance since he’s probably already inlove with Suga-san.”
“…you will confess to himeventually anyways,” Yachi cut the conversation, pouting.
You looked away. You knew she wasright. You were going to confess to him eventually. It’s just… Itwas so fucking hard to work up the courage. You’dhad a crush on Daichi since your first year, since a while afteryou’djoined the volleyball club.
Atfirst, it was all fun and games. Youjoined the club simply because you liked volleyball but getting towatch pretty boys get all worked up and sweaty while playing was anice bonus for you. Once you realized you liked Daichi, it got evenmore fun… for a while. Howmany people could say they get to see their crash shirtless on adaily basis?
But the longer you watched, thecloser you got to him, the more painful it got. Daichicould look scary at first, especially during practice sessions whenhe had to rein in first and second years, but asalways, appearances couldbe deceptive. Youmanaged to befriend him, also getting closer with Suga and Asahi inthe process, but soon yourealized that being just friends was hardly enough for you. Youstill couldn’t forget that one time when Daichi said you were “likea younger brother to him” and how much it hurt.
“All right!”
What snapped you out of yourcontemplation was Daichi’s voice. Whileyou were bickering with Yachi standing on the side of the court, theboys were actually training. Shimizu was in charge of taking notestoday so you and Yachi didn’t have much to do at the moment.
You turnedyour eyes in the direction Daichi’svoice had come from. Andthere he was, looking asgood as always, with that damn smile of his he always had on his faceafter a good receive, just a few feet away from you.
So close yet so far.
It was the day. It was the dayyou were going to confess to Daichi.
It had been a month since yourargument with Yachi. Over the last 30 daysand even more late-night phone calls with Yachi, you decided toconfess your feelings to Daichi. Even if he didn’t like you back,you wanted him to know what you feel. The days were growing longerand Spring High wasgetting closer and closer. Regardless of whether you won or lost, thethird-years were going to quit the club once the tournament was over.And once that happened,you were bound to grow more distant with Daichi, let alone having achance to confess to him. If you were going to do it, you had to doit now.
The morning sun was shininggently upon you as you walked through the schoolyard withyour heart pounding in your chest andyou still had like half a day to go before the actual confession. Youreally hoped your teachers wouldn’t quiz you today. You’dprobably fail it miserably since you couldn’t focus on anythingelse but the dreadful perspective of what was going to happen thisevening.
Yourplan was simple. You were going to take alittle longer cleaningup after practice so that you end up staying alone in the storageroom. Then, Yachi was going to “notice” that you’re missing andask Daichi to go and look for you because she had “somethingimportant to talk to you about.” If everything went smoothly, youwere going to end up alone with Daichi in the storage room. That wasgoing to be your chance.
When you were going overthe plan in your head walking down the hallway, your phone rang. Youpulled your phone out of your bag to find out you had a new text fromYachi.
“I’m sorry m(_ _)m”
You tilted your head. That wasall she wrote.
“What do you mean?” youtexted back as you entered your classroom.
You spent the first periodstressing over Yachi’s message. Whatever she was sorry about, itwas bound to be nothing good.
Turnedout Yachiwas sick.
Accordingto Yachi herself, he had suddenly felt really unwell last night whichhadturned out to beonly the beginning of a long, feverish night. Whenher mom had taken her to the doctor this morning, she’d beendiagnosed with a bad case of influenza. Shewould probably be staying at home for at least a week.
Yourplan was ruined, which of course made you very upset… but somewheredeep in your heart, you also felt kind of relieved that the momentyou were going to confess to Daichi was put off by at least a week,and you hated yourself for it.
Youlet out a deep sigh as you leaned against a mop you held in yourhands. Youended up being the last one left in the gym anyways, no matter yourplan. You’dlied to Shimizu and the guys about needing to clean up the storageroom—you needed some time foryourself.
“Needsome help?”
Youturned your face up to find the source of the voice only to be facesby Daichi leaning against the door frame, looking at you.
You gulped.
You didn’t even need your planto be left alone with Daichi.
If this wasn’t the heavenstelling you it was high time you’d confessed then what was.
“Yeah,actually, I’m really glad you’re here,” you said, lookingstraight at Daichi. “There’s something I need to tell you.” Yougulped. “I like you.”
Youfinally said it.
Daichi stood in front of yousilently, as though processing what you had just said, and you justwaited. You weren’t going anywhere until you got an answer,especially given that Daichi was standing in the doorway, blockingyour way. You had quite a spectacle to watch anyways.
Thefirst few seconds, Daichi’s face just… froze, as he stared at youunblinkingly. Then came a slight blush which gradually turned moreand more red eventually taking on the color of an especially ripebeet. Hecovered hismouth with both of his hands, as though he was in an utter shock.Which he probably was. It took him like half a minute to calm down.Once his blush subsided a little bit, he lowered his hands andfinally let himself blink.
“I… I like you, too,” hesaid quietly, turning his eyes away from you.
“No, I don’t mean it likethat.” You smiled sadly. “I mean it, like, in a romantic way.”
“That’s what I mean, too.”
This time it was you that foundyourself shook to the bone.
“What…wait, what?!”
“I actually came here toconfess to you,” Daichi explained, his blush growing brighteragain. “Shimizu told me you’d said you’d stay in the gym alittle longer and everyone else has already left so I thought it wasmy chance…”
You stared at each otherwordlessly for a few seconds. You were the one to start laughing.
“Whatthe hell is this?! Whathave I even been worried about this past year?!”
“Iknow, right?” Daichi giggled as well. “Wait,you’ve had a crush on me fora yearalready?!”
“Over a year, I’d say,” youresponded. “You?”
“You beat me on that one.”Daichi’s smile was really the most beautiful thing you’d everseen. “I’d say since the previous Spring High? You remember howyou cheered me up after we lost? That’s when I realized.”
“Isee.” You couldn’t stop grinning. “So I guess we’reboyfriends now?”
“I guess so.” Daichi grabbedyour hand and pulled you toward the door. “Let’s go hometogether.

You smiled at your phone. Yachiwas really the sweetest.

You put your phone back into yourpocket as you turned your eyes to Daichi. He had to grab hiss stufffrom the club room and you’d been waiting for him downstairs.
“No problem,” you responded,readjusting the strap of your bag on your shoulder. “Shall we gothen?”
“Let’s.”
You walked down the streetleading up to the school. You were talking and laughing, enjoyingeach other’s presence. It was late and there was nobody around.Daichi grabbed your hand and you squeezed it back.
“Hey,” Daichi started, hisvoice sounding a little anxious. “Don’t you wanna come over? Myparents are at home but I’m sure my mom will be happy to have youover for dinner. We could watch some movies or something.”
“Sure thing,” you respondedwith a smile. “I’d love that.”
Daichi smiled at you again andyou couldn’t hold yourself back any longer. You leaned in placing agentle kiss on his lips.
A clap of distant thunder rumbled throughthe skies. You couldn’t know that yet but it was just the beginningof a thunderstorm that was going to force you to stay the night atDaichi’s house.

First of all, I apologize youhad to wait for so long m(_ _)m Second of all, I’m not much of asnake person myself but I’m almost certain that if I did have ahuge snake, I would most certainly do the same as you do lol. Idecided to go for HCs since they were easier to write given the factthat I’m no specialist on the subject. It’s a little on theshort side but I sure did enjoy writing them, much more than I’dexpected actually. I’m sure you get a lot of hilarious reactions yourselfirl so I really hope you find these enjoyable!
Kageyama Tobio:
The poor boy is completely horrified.
You would never tell judging just from his expression. He looks calm and composed on the outside but on the inside, his mind is screaming “WHAT THE FUCK RUN RUN RUN RUN!!!”
Instead of letting his instincts control him, however, he kisses you on the cheek and says something along the lines of “I didn’t know you had a snake” to hide the fact he’s actually terrified.
He would need some time to get used to hanging out with a boa around but he’d get there eventually.
Kageyama needs a lot of data, both verbal and sensual, to process stuff properly so he asks a lot of questions about your boa, sometimes even about stuff you don’t know about like some obscure biological or ecological data. You’ll probably just end up googling that stuff together, making it another thing you can bond over.
For that same reason, you’ll find him from time to time having staring contests with your boa or just touching it for no reason. It’s just his way of getting acquainted with them!
After a while, he simply stops caring, like, he comes in, gives you a kiss, says hi to the snake and proceeds to pull you into his arms for a cuddle session on the couch. It used to be something new and terrifying at first, sure, but it’s not anymore!
Oikawa Tōru:
Oikawa is also completely horrified.
Unlike Kageyama, however, it shows. It really shows.
He lets out a short, high-pitched shriek when you open the door and proceeds to be all fidgety and jumpy around you. You’ll need to put your boa away for a second when you explain to him that they’re harmless and will never hurt him.
At first, he’ll be all like “Really? But are you really really sure?” but he wouldn’t be your boyfriend if he didn’t believe you.
He’s still really wary even after he takes in your explanation. Much like Kageyama, he needs some date input to process a lot of things but in his case, it’s mostly experience he relies on. Thus, you’ll catch him observing your boa from the other side of the room, from a safe distance (at least in his opinion) and just taking in the reality.
In the end, it all comes down to getting used to it. It takes him a little longer than in Kageyama’s case but he’ll come around.
Once he does, he actually starts getting jealous of your snake. He pouts when you spend too much time with them and when you pet them he’ll be like “Come and pet me, too!”
Oikawa is still Oikawa after all. He likes experimenting and experiencing new things and that’s one of the things he loves about you. You always bring fresh air into his life.
Kurō Tetsurō:
Kurō is the most unfazed of the three.
He’s a smart guy already interested in chemistry and biology so he’s actually really excited to get to know an actual boa constrictor!
He would grin a lot and greet you with something along the lines of “And who’s that little guy you’re holding, hmm?”
While Kageyama’s interest in you boa came from his need to understand stuff in order to get used to stuff, Kurō’s desire to know stuff is just that — a desire to know.
And so, just like Kageyama, he asks you a lot of questions, some even weirder than Kageyama’s, but in his case, it’s for the sheer hunger of knowledge. Just like with Kageyama, you’ll end up googling a lot of things together, but something you won’t get with Kageyama but will get with Kurō is late-night discussions about boas and snakes in general. You’ll probably end up learning this and that from him since he does a lot of research on his own.
(He may or may not end up taking a course in ophiology once he enters university.)
What’s more to say, Kurō’s reactions are probably the most boring ones since he isn’t taken aback by you having a pet boa or anything like that. That said, he will get theatrically jealous of you paying attention to your snake and not to him just to fuck with you. Also, get ready for a ton, and I mean a ton of snake puns, even during more intimate moments. Kurō thinks he’s being hilarious. You want him to stop.

You turned around to look at Kurōwho was calling for your attention. You were sitting on the floor ofyour locker room alongside your teammates, all of whom had gatheredthere early in the morning, and now everyone’s eyes were on Kurō.Kurō was standing in frontof the lone window and as you turned around to look up to him, yousquinted, as the summer sun blazing through the glass pane, stillhanging relatively low above the horizon, hurt your eyes a littlebit.
“Starting today, we’ll be training with Fukurōdani, Ubugawa,Shinzen, and Karasuno so don’t you dare do anything toostupid. I’m talking to you, Yamamoto!” saidKuroo, causinggiggle to rise across the room, except from Taketora himself. “I’mgonna go and show our guests around so you go to the gym and waitthere, okay?”
As soon as you rose to your feet, you felt a hand on your shoulder.
“Stressed?” asked Morisuke.
You gulped.
“A little. You know the guys we’llbe training with, right, nii-san?”
“Well, I do knot the guys fromFukurōdani, Ubugawa,and Shinzen” yourbrother answered. “We’ve trained together a few times. They’reall pretty cool guys even if some of them can be a little…eccentric. But I don’t knowmuch about Karasuno,” he added. “We’ve had a practice matchonce in Miyagi but that’s pretty much it.”
“That doesn’t help much but…Thanks, nii-san.”You gave your brother a faint smile.
“Oh come on, you’ll be okay! You can always hide behind me ifyou’re scared,” Morisuke teased.
“Don’t be surprised if Iactually do end upclinging to your back,” you teased back.
Youkept talking and teasing each other back and forth as you covered the short distance separating your locker room and the gym. Once you gotthere, you started getting everything ready for the practice, settingup the net, bringing out the balls, mopping the floor… Halfwaythrough, the members of Ubugawa and Shinzen arrived at the gym andcountless unfamiliar voices filled the air, adding to the usualhubbub of your teammates setting up the court and reverberating against the gym walls, making you slightly uneasy. Youtried to stick to Morisuke as much as you could, at least when he wasnot greeting other teams or running off to kick Yamamoto or Lev tostop them from causing trouble.
A fewminutes later, Fukurōdaniarrived, adding a whole newlevel to the general ruckus with their rather loud owl-hairedcaptain. You remembered seeing him fromthe stands once when you went to cheer on your brother but somehow heseemed even louder now than then. You ran off to the side where Levwas sulking after being scolded particularly harshly, this time byKurō.
“Wanna train with me? I can tossthe ball for you,” you spoke to Lev, causing him to jump upimmediately.
“For real?! Of course I want to!”Lev exclaimed, making you letout a sigh of relief. Now,you had an excuse not to talk to anyone else, even if only for thetime before the official practice began. Youwere about to head for the ball basket when you heard an unfamiliarvoice from behind your back.
“Yaku-kun.”
You turned around to find a tall, slim figure standing right in frontof you. A pair of gunmetal blue eyes bore into you from underneaththick, black eyebrows and a mop of messy hair of the same color.
“I’m looking forward to training with you,” the dark-haired boysaid, both to you and to Lev, giving the latter a small nod ofacknowledgment.
“Umh, likewise?” you said questioningly, trying to remember ifyou knew him. He knew your name so you probably should also know hisbut you just couldn’t remember it.
“Umh, excuse me, but do we know each other?”
“I know you. I saw you in one of your matches when you went in tosub Kenma. You weren’t half-bad for a first year. I’m AkaashiKeiji, a setter like yourself. I hope we can learn from each other.”Akaashi spoke in short but pronounced sentences. You kind of juststood there, listening, and nodded when he finished, acknowledginghis words. He nodded as well and simply walked away.
You remembered now. You had seen Fukurōdani’s matches a few timesin videos. Akaashi’s tall figure, his dark hair and calm demeanormatched those of Fukurōdani’s first setter.
“Yaku? Should we go and get the ball? …Yaku?” Lev tried to snapyou out of your trance but to no avail.
You were still standing where Akaashi left you, dumbfounded. A settermuch superior to you, the setter of one of the strongest highschool teams in the country, praised your skills as a volleyballplayer and admitted he could even learn something from you.Although you’d had your doubts about having four other teams hangaround your school, most of those doubts vanished after yourconversation with Akaashi.
And you had to admit he was kind of your type.
It was a crush. It was definitely a crush.
You spent the last few days training intensely and getting to playagainst so many different, strong players was cool and all but youwould find your eyes wandering towards the pretty Fukurōdani setterevery now and then, probably even more often than you’d like toadmit. But you had yet to make a move, any move actually.You’d only played a few games against Fukurōdani and… that waspretty much it. That was all the contact you’d made with Akaashi.Before you even knew it, it was already the last day of the jointpractice and the BBQ you were going to have in the evening was yourlast chance to do something. You had to at least get hisnumber. Texting was the less embarrassing alternative to campingoutside his school whenever you wanted to talk to him.
But even as the sun sank over the horizon and the BBQ started, youstill couldn’t force yourself to talk to Akaashi properly. How didother people even do it? Talk to strangers? Holding casualconversations with people they barely knew anything about?
Akaashi was right there, standing by the grill and talking toKarasuno’s setter, yet he seemed so far to you.
“What are you staring at?”
You didn’t even notice when your brother approached you. You didn’tanswer and just kept chewing your veggies.
“You like Akaashi?”
You choked on your veggies.
“Wow, wow, are you okay?” said Morisuke with a genuinely worriedexpression on his face. You coughed a few more times, trying to getthe food out of your respiratory tract.
“I-I’m okay,” you managed to mumble.
“Here, have some water.”
You took the cup and drank all the water in one go. It took you amoment to realize that the voice that had spoken to you just now andthe hand that had brought you the cup of water hadn’t been yourbrother’s. The said brother, by the way, simply disappeared fromyour side. You looked around only to find him looking at you from allover by the grills, and when he noticed you looking at him, he winkedat you and mouthed “good luck.”

“Better now?” asked Akaashi.
“Y-yeah, thanks,” you said.
And the dreaded awkward silence fell between you.
Akaashi was right beside you and you didn’t know what to say.
“So… How did you like the practice?” asked Akaashi.
“It… It was fun.”
“Having to do the laps was?” It was the first time you sawAkaashi smile.
“No, not that part,” you giggled, “but I need to work on mystamina anyways so…”
“Me too, man, if I want to keep up with Bokuto-san.” Akaashi letout a small sigh although you could tell he wasn’t being completelyserious.
“It’s already amazing you’re keeping up with him as you arenow. You’re amazing. Yeah,” you added sheepishly.
“So are you. Just what did Kozume teach you? You fit right in yourteam’s playstyle, and that’s no easy feat, given it’s thatNekoma.”
“Not much, really.” It really felt good to be praised by Akaashi.“I learn mostly by observation. I’m still a first year so I don’tget to play in official matches. Kenma-san isn’t really the kind toteach anything to people so… I mostly just watch and copy what Ican.”
“That’s even more impressive if you ask me.” There you gotanother smile. “But I’ll gladly train with you the next time wehave practiced together. That is, if you need any guidance.”
“Yeah, sure. Actually…” You gulped loudly. “If we—” Youfought really hard not to let the words get stuck in your throat. “Ifwe could, like, exchange numbers or something, I could ask you somequestions that way. If you were so kind as to answer them. Aboutvolleyball. And setting.” “And other stuff,” youadded in your mind.
Akaashi blinked a few times and you held your breath.
“Sure, why not,” he finally said, pulling his phone out of hissweatshirt as you pulled out yours.
“Aaand done,” said Akaashi. “I’ll text you later to checkif—”
“AAKHAAAHSHI!!!”
“Bokuto-san.” Akaashi let out a deep sigh.
“Who is that pretty boy you’re talking to?” asked thehorn-owl-like guy who you knew to be Fukurōdani’s captain. Youwere so surprised by his sudden appearance your face seemed to haveforgotten how to blush.
“Bokuto-san…” It looked as though Akaashi was holding himselffrom facepalming, as he raised his hand towards his face. “MeetYaku-kun, Yaku-san’s younger brother and Nekoma’s reservesetter.”
“Oh is that so! But why are you standing so far from everyone else?Come on, let’s have fun together!” Bokuto said as he grabbed bothyour and Akaashi’s hands and dragged you towards the tables. Youturned your gaze toward Akaashi in hope of getting some kind of helpor at least explanation but he just looked back at youapologetically.
“This is my life. And also yours now, it seems,” he sent you asheepish smile.
Your heart skipped a bit at the thought that Akaashi alreadyconsidered you a part of his life. Soon, you were being greeted byother members of Fukurōdani, then even joined by a few members ofShinzen, Ubugawa, and Karasuno as everyone was just talking toeveryone else. You felt a little dizzy, being confronted with so manynew names and faces but every time you felt too out of place, youjust looked at Akaashi who gave you a reassuring smile.
“Yaku-san.”
Your name had been called by so many unfamiliar voices so many timesduring this practice that you weren’t even surprised this time. Itseemed to just be a thing that everyone knew your name. You turnedyour face in the direction of the voice and was confronted withKarasuno’s setter frowning face.
“Name’s Kageyama. I wanted to talk to you about the feint youused during our last match, the one where you mislead the opponentteam with your eyes? I tried talking to Kenma-san but he just ranaway,” Kageyama said. “Why is everyone running away from me,”he added in a much quieter voice.
“What’s that about?” Akaashi suddenly spoke up, turning hisgaze to you. “I wanna hear about that, too.”
You found yourself under the pressure two pairs of blue eyes boringinto you with expectation in their gaze. Both your crush and one ofthe most talented setters you’ve ever met were looking up to youfor guidance.
You smiled to yourself. It still wouldn’t be something you do everyday but maybe getting out of your comfort zone wasn’t so bad afterall?

It’s already past midnight in Japan but it’s still 22nd where I live sooo I’m still gonna post this lol. It’s a teeny-tiny short story no one requested or wanted and it’s not the best thing I’ve ever written but I still wanted to celebrate my precious awkward blueberry’s birthday! In this story, Kageyama gets a gift on his birthday from a mysterious admirer and embarks on a quest of finding out who it was. Enjoy!
(Also please ignore the fact that I set this story on a weekday while it’s actually Sunday today. I honestly didn’t realize until the very end.)

常ならぬ誕生日 — A not-so-usual birthday
It was a sunny December morning. Kageyama was walking up the hill, on his way to school, the cold winter air biting his cheeks and nose, seeping through his scarf and down his chest, penetrating his clothes and skin. It was quite cold, even for Miyagi, probably the coldest day this year so far. Kageyama shivered and quickened his pace. The morning practice would warm him up but he needed to get there first.
Kageyama walked down the hallway with a tired expression painted on his face. This had been the most exhausting practice in his life. Nishinoya-san and Tanaka-san literally _jumped _at him screaming “HAPPY BIRTHDAY KAGEYAMA”, knocking him down in the process, Hinata kept awkwardly trying to compliment him during practice, which only made him feel uncomfortable, and Tsukishima just wouldn’t stop teasing him about “getting older but not much taller.”
As he walked into the classroom through the back door, from the corner of his eye, he noticed someone just exiting through the other door, and that someone almost bumped into Hinata, who was also just entering. Kageyama didn’t pay much attention to it—that is, until he got to his desk and noticed a small, flat, neatly-packed box lying on top of it. He looked around perplexed, as though that would help him figure out where this box came from, despite that fact that he and Hinata were the only ones to arrive at the classroom this early. He sat down and stared down the box suspiciously. It was wrapped in black-and-orange paper and didn’t seem to be bothered by his stare. How insolent of it. Deciding it couldn’t be dangerous, Kageyama slowly lifted the box with his fingers and tore away the paper. As the colorful scraps fell onto his desk, Kageyama’s eyes widened, seeing what lay underneath. He jumped up to his feet, knocking his chair down with a loud BANG, scaring Hinata out of his mind.
“What the hell, Kageyama?!” exclaimed his friend, turning to him with a glint of fear and anger in his eyes.
“You—did you put this here?” Kageyama asked, showing no care for Hinata’s surprise.
“I put what where?” said Hinata, confused. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“But if it wasn’t you…” Kageyama squinted. He wasn’t the brightest of the all but even he could connect the dots together. He stared Hinata down. “Do you remember the person that almost bumped into you when you walked in?”
Hinata looked even more confused than before.
“I guess… I don’t know who it was but he certainly was a second-year student! I saw the pin on his collar!” Hinata actually seemed kind of proud of his observation skills.
Without giving it a second thought, Kageyama grabbed the box and then Hinata by his collar. “You’re coming with me,” he said and rushed toward the second-year classrooms before Hinata could protest.
“Okay so is he here?” Kageyama asked, peeking into one of the classrooms through a crack between the door and the door frame. Hinata, as disgruntled as he was, begrudgingly leaned in to also look. Even so, his eyes glistened when he found who they were looking for.
“It’s him, Kageyama! The guy in the front standing by the windo—Kageyama?!”
But Kageyama was already slamming the door open, making all eyes turn to him though he couldn’t care less; his gaze was fixated on that one guy.
“Sempai!” he called the upperclassman, walking slowly towards him. “Can I have a word with you?”
“Kageyama…” the guy said and immediately covered his mouth, realizing he shouldn’t probably know Kageyama’s name. Kageyama, on the other hand, smirked to himself. Bingo.
“There’s something I want to ask you about, sempai,” he said, grabbing the upperclassman’s hand and dragging him along outside, as excited whispers swept the classroom. “Hinata!” he shouted in the direction of the redhead, “If the teacher asks about me, tell him I’ll be late!” And so he was off, dragging the now completely red-faced boy down the hallway and leaving Hinata staring after them in pure terror.
“So,” Kageyama said as soon as they reached the backyard, “is it you who gave this to me,” he asked, holding out the gift so that the upperclassman could see it. “How did you know I liked this band? I don’t even know you.”
The older of the boys turned his eyes away.
“I heard you talking about it with that blonde girl,” he mumbled. “And I also really like it. And I also overheard guys from your team saying it was your birthday today. And the album only came out yesterday so I figured you wouldn’t have bought it yet so…” He kicked the ground bashfully, causing a puff of dust to rise up.
“Okay, but why would you buy it for me?” Kageyama was as blunt as they come and he wasn’t planning on beating around the bush this time either.
“I… I’ve been going to your games, and also watched your practice a few times, and I guess I just thought you were really cool and that Iactuallylikeyouandwanttodosomethingforyoueevenifyoudidn’tlikemeback.” He just spitted the last part out so fast Kageyama could barely understand it.
But he did. And now he was red.
“I… Thank you,” Kageyama managed to say as his mind was racing. He thought he’d never need anything else if he had volleyball but… maybe this was his chance? His pounding heart certainly wanted it to be.
“Your number,” he spewed out.
“Huh?”
“Give me your number. We can hang out after my practice. And talk about the band. Or the album. Get to know each other. Or something.”
“Eh? Ah, o-okay?… I mean, yeah, sure, I’d love to!” The older boy exclaimed, frantically searching for his phone in his pockets. “I’ll go home and get changed and I’ll come back for you. C-call me when you finish your practice?” he added shyly.
“Sure,” Kageyama said just as the bell rang throughout the school. “We should get back for now though.”
“Yeah, let’s.”
On his way back, Kageyama couldn’t stop smirking. Maybe his birthday wasn’t going to be that bad after all.
Later that day, Kageyama rushed out of the gym after practice to find his date waiting just outside the school gate. The older boy was puffing into his hands to warm them up. On the spur of the moment, Kageyama took his hand, averting his gaze.
“It’ll be warmer this way,” he mumbled.
His date smiled.
“Yeah,” he said. “Let’s go.”
“Let’s.”
As they were walking down the hill, snow—the first snow this winter—started slowly falling upon the couple, engulfing them in its soft, comforting embrace.
