The reason most indie novels are written like the author is terrified of doing something wrong is because the overwhelming majority of indie novelists get their start by networking in the violent panopticon of the social media indie publishing community, which favours the people who are able to win at the social policing game. The authors really are all terrified of doing something wrong.

i kinda cant stand like 80% of f/o imagines because they are so saccharine and like very obviously written by and aimed at teens. im an adult. i want to imagine my f/o...idk. getting his taxes filed before the deadline. waiting in line at the registration center to get his ID renewed. applying for a passport.

You should be starting a recipe book. I don't give a shit if you're only 20-years-old. The modern web is rotting away bit by bit before our very eyes. You have no idea when that indie mom blog is going down or when Pinterest will remove that recipe. Copy it down in a notebook, physically or digitally. Save it somewhere only you can remove it. Trust me, looking for a recipe only to find out it's been wiped off the internet is so fucking sad. I've learned my lesson one too many times.
