@agnosticalchemist
if you remove the places most people walk around at they don’t walk very much
This reminds me of that one study on exercise that didn’t count manual labor in the workplace as exercise
The Tumblr Twitter account is literally the only good thing about Twitter lately (or maybe ever)
I'm like 65% sure that's the fucking crab from Moana. Why is Tumblr so obsessed with crabs.
great job everyone lets hit the showers
Not again
gentle reminder that you can’t get this kind of nonsense from any other site
it always comes back to skyrim somehow.
if you're going to rejoin tumblr you first must go through
the perfume department
I’m a horrible person who deserves to be unalived. Some part of me almost looks forward to it.
please remember that I am a Canadian illustrator and it is fucking bizarre to come to me with medical questions
Why would you limit yourself to drawing Canadians?
everyone else unfollow me I want to be alone with arsnof
I love my characters so much, I wish I could draw
you are on such thin ice
Under sea ecosystems are bullshit.
Like imagine you're a little rabbit and you go to nibble on a tree sapling but as soon as you go to take a bite it takes off like a fucking helicopter and disappears over the horizon.
Then, before you can process what just happened, the entire patch of grass you were standing on turns out to be a fox who had turned itself inside out and you die.
are you okay do you need to talk about it
Look I'm just saying I'm glad I exist in a place and scale where the main form of getting dead is just something trying to make your blood fall out.
I couldn't handle being a crab. I would register a formal complaint but crabs can't write.
Once upon a time…
I really wish the overused sentence “You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.” was less relevant but here we are
this was one of the funniest ways Adventure Time ended an episode. because 1) it had nothing to do with the rest of the episode and 2) this clip is what the episode is named after
Ghost don’t masturbate
what are you, a scientist. the hell do you know
“you support gay rights so you must be gay”
i support animal rights do i look like a fucking alpaca to you
turns out i am gay
holy shit how’d this alpaca learn how to type
Diversity win! The alpaca is gay!
not to be an old cranky leftist but going forward i think those of us who live in the us need to remember a protest is not a group powerwalk to register polite disapproval with those in power
a protest is an implied threat. a protest says there are a lot of us, and we do not like what you’re doing. we are giving you a chance to course correct before we take things to the next level.
if there’s no shared commitment to the potential of moving to that next level: a protest is useless and essentially just public performance art.

Autistic Coding: What ‘Astro BOYD’ Did Right
I’m autistic. I am autistic and perpetually exhausted by robots in media. Particularly robots in media with the “longing to be truly human” storyline. It’s been done to death, and always in a way that just… hurts.
Astro BOYD made me cry. But it was out of sheer joy.
My brothers watched Star Trek: Next Gen while I was watching by proxy. Data is a very beloved character, and I have always hated him. I’ve never really understood why, as I adore Spock. I always assumed that it was because they were trying to have another Spock and that bugged me on principle. Which… it does, but that wasn’t the heart of the issue.
Data’s story is all about how he wants to be human. How he wants to understand humanity. Why was this hurtful? Because the show treated three crucial things as being fundamentally human: emotion, empathy, and sexuality. Now I’m not ace, so I don’t feel comfortable discussing how dehumanizing that aspect is (and it Very Much Is dehumanizing), but I am autistic. I have difficulty with empathy, social interaction, and emotions. And this shit happens constantly with robot characters.
Those stories have told myself and many others that there is something missing from us. That we’re not completely human. We’re robots. In fact, many of us have had “robot” thrown at us as an insult. I have not. But the implication still hurts.
Enter: Astro BOYD.
Huey is very autistic coded. I don’t know if that’s intentional or not, most of the time coding isn’t, but the coding is there. The anxiety, the special interests, the speech patterns, and most recently, the stimming, and rejection from his peers for being… a robot. Oof.
Then he meets BOYD, an actual robot, who insists that he’s a real boy. BOYD knows he’s a robot. But he also knows he’s real. Huey knows it, too.
What made this episode stick out is that it wasn’t a story of BOYD wanting to be human. It was a story of BOYD knowing he’s human while outside forces insist that he’s not. Huey never questions it because he understands.
“He’s just wired a little differently.”
BOYD breaks down because everyone insists that something is wrong with him.. That he’s a weapon. That he’s not a real boy. He comes out of it when Gyro finally, finally comes back around and validates that, despite his origins, his quirks, the fact that he’s a robot, he is real.
And it’s something Huey already knew. Because he’s just like BOYD, and he’s real, too.
The story isn’t “I want to be human”. The story is “I am human”. And for someone who grew up with the opposite narrative, that means everything.
