Google Chrome has been installing an AI model on users devices without their consent.
Since that file path is only on the screen for a second, the ai is located in
C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\OptGuideOnDeviceModel\weights.bin
OKAY SO. If you, like me, are stuck using Chrome for work reasons (I use firefox for everything else), here's what you should actually do:
On Google Chrome, type in chrome://settings and hit Enter. Using the search bar on this page, run a search for "AI". I don't care that you've done this in the past already, they quiet added the shitty option recently. Scroll almost ALL the way down and look for the On-device AI option, and toggle it off. The bastard's on by default.
Just to be safe, you can go through all the OTHER hits you got on that search and turn anything fishy off. Yes, this includes the spellcheck and grammar check in some instances. It's wild. You know how people keep complaining that Google gives them shitty "corrections" these days? It's crowdsourced AI, and no longer a dictionary and grammar ruleset. Unfortunately this is powered by the way people write, and people are not good at writing unless they are professionals. Anyway.
Now that you've turned off the On-device AI, go back to the search bar on Chrome and type in chrome://flags and hit enter. This will bring you to Chrome's bullshit experimental features, most of which are on by Default without asking. Fun!
Using the search bar on this page, search for "Enables Optimization Guide on Device" and set it to Disabled, then look for "Prompt API" and set both options to Disabled.
If you know what you're doing, run a search for AI AND a search for Gemini and Disable anything that looks off to you. If you don't know what you're doing, maybe don't touch anything if you're not sure what it does xD
Now that you've toggled those options off, you're going to want to open Windows Explorer and type in %LocalAppData% and follow the path @pirateprincessjess noted: C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\OptGuideOnDeviceModel\[DATE]\
Delete the weights.bin file from this folder and clear your recycle bin
DO NOTE, if you DON'T turn off the On-device AI option from the settings as I explained in step one, the malware weights.bin file will redownload itself. I know this because it happened to me and I had to go digging.
If you followed every step here, you should be good!
I did all of this yesterday after finding that the 4GB file had redownloaded itself onto my computer and I've been monitoring my appdata folder since (it's been clean so far after a full 8 hours of work!). Still, it might be a good idea to keep checking back just in case Google tries to pull some kind of new shit without our knowledge.
YES I know that getting rid of Chrome altogether is the best option. Some of us can't. This is the workaround for that. Fuck Google and fuck Google Chrome.
OH, and don't use any Chromium-based browsers either. That's most browsers, by the way.
If you can switch to Firefox, do so now. Don't wait. It takes two minutes to migrate, you have access to a ton of extensions for privacy, and it has a built-in AI killswitch now. It will import all of your bookmarks and stuff. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
The whole “of COURSE HBO will pit Rhaenys and Visenya against each other which would be misogynistic and bad to do” school of thought is sooooo mystifying to me. stories need conflict or else it’s just two hours of height moments aura and kneeling
they are literal sister-wives in an incestuous polygamist feudal dynasty marriage in which despite being capable of conquering and ruling in their own right their brother-husband controls most of what they do and their relationship with him kind of entirely dictates their personal and political futures. Even though they have to put up an entirely united front at court. No conflict there though #girlboss
wouldn’t it be more misogynistic to tell a story in which they were entirely cool with it the whole time and loved the insane patriarchal structure of their personal lives sooooo much you don’t get it
There's a few different routes this can go. Visenya and Rhaenys in their own relationship outside of Aegon, the conflict with Visenya being the eldest but passed over because of her brother and Rhaenys playing peacemaker but with her own temper. Aegon was uninterested in ruling and left it to his sisters, and yet HE is the king, so what kind of resentment builds there? Not to mention then you have potential of Aegon and Rhaenys ganging up on Visenya (something something 'He married Rhaenys for love' and how that can be interpreted)
It's unfortunate that people are automatically defaulting to pitting the sisters against one another and I get that frustration.
My only hope is not ending in another ham-fisted attempts we had with whatever the hell is going on with Alicent and Rhaenyra. I hope they've all learned from that mistake. There's too much gold here for conflict and the fallout of Rhaenys' death and assimilation and so on for us to reduce down the treasure trove that is this trio. I hope (foolishly hope) that fandom can release that.
No I think they should come into conflict with each other too. Women are people. People put into rigid hierarchical systems designed to engineer conflict and competition between them tend to fight. People who have to co-rule a kingdom with another person with different personal and political values than them tend to fight. People in weird enmeshed incestuous family networks that are also feudal dynasties tend to fight. The idea of them getting along at every junction just because they’re women is so beyond lame
Visenya loved and adored her little sister so much she had poisoned her son (allegedly), had her own abomination baby usurp rhaenys’ grandson, imprisoned her other grandkids knowing fully well the og viserys’ and rhaena’s fates were gonna be fucked. Get a grip, people, visenya in your heads and visenya in the story as she’s written are not the same characters.

UPDATE WE HAVE TWO COLORBLIND BITCHEZ IN THE SERVER
what the fuck is going on
On the last one Deuteranomaly and Protanomaly are identical though
What I’m getting from this is that there are a lot more colorblind people in the world than even colorblind people know.

WAIT! DEUTERANOMALY AND PROTANOMALY IS THE SAME! IT’S THE FUCKING SAME! WHAT ARE YOU GUYS TALKING ABOUT?????
The deuteranomaly and protanomaly ones are very similar but they are different. The purple section ranges out a little farther to the right in the protanomaly one. Not seeing the difference between might not indicate color blindness but rather difficulty with color differentiation.
The green is also slightly more vivid in the protanomaly strip than it is in the deuteranomaly one.
@skeletal-spire-man-aka-overfit
um
these are not the same
They’re… They’re identical…
What’s… What’s the difference-?
welp. one of the moots has tritanomaly colour blindness!
I’m not colourblind, but like, on the last one, deuteranomaly and protanomaly are identical to eachother- so are protanopia and deuteranopia-
They aren’t different?

Can we stop? Honestly, Ryan. It’s time to stop. I don’t care if this thing is real or just some TikTok bullshit, but as someone who LIVED FOR Martin’s universe, this just feels like such a slap in the face. They already did enough damage with HOTD, can y’all just leave the lore alone for once? Thanks.
So is Daemon's bond with Caraxes weaker than Jace's with Vermax? Is Daeron's bond with Tessarion and Aegon's with Sunfyre weaker than Rhaenyra's bond with Syrax?
Why does Ryan insist on trumpeting his stupidity to the world when it's already a well established fact?
FIND OUT ON THE NEXT DRAGONBALL Z!!!!!!
If that is true then here is a list of dragonriders who's connection to their dragon were (or could have been) weaker:
(The order is in when the dragons were claimed, and if that is unknown, the order of the dragons' age when they were claimed. The italics is for the dragons who could have had one unknown former rider or who might have been cradle eggs, the regular is for the ones who claimed after they hatched, and the bold is for the ones who claimed dragons who had at least one confirmed former rider)
Aegon I Targaryen with Balerion (he was hatched before 114 BC and flew with the other five Targaryen dragons who moved from Valyria, so it's unlikely that Aegon was his first rider. Also in HOTD, Balerion’s first rider was Daenys the Dreamer, and while most of what they did in the series doesn't make sense, this is actually plausible)
Visenya Targaryen with Vhagar? (Vhagar hatched in 52 BC, and Visenya was born in 29 BC, and we don’t know when she claimed her. So if we say that Visenya claimed at the earliest possible time (right after birth), Vhagar would have been 23 years at the time, which means that she could have had a former rider)
Rhaenys Targaryen (daughter of Lord Aerion) with Meraxes? (Considering that Meraxes’ skull was larger than Vhagar’s, even though Meraxes died 120 years before her, it’s likely that she was older than her. Although even if we say that Meraxes was hatched at the same time as Vhagar, it still means that Meraxes was at least 26 when Rhaenys was born, so she could have had a former rider)
Aenys I Targaryen with Quicksilver
Rhaena Targaryen (daughter of Aenys I) with Dreamfyre
Maegor I Targaryen with Balerion
Aegon Targaryen (son of Aenys I) with Quicksilver
Aerea Targaryen with Balerion
Aemon Targaryen with Caraxes (his father did place an egg in his cradle, but it doesn't seem like it hatched because he ended up claiming Caraxes when he was 17)
Baelon Targaryen with Vhagar
Alyssa Targaryen with Meleys
Rhaenys Targaryen (daughter of Aemon) with Meleys
Daemon Targaryen with Caraxes
Viserys I Targaryen with Balerion
Book Laenor Velaryon with Seasmoke (in HOTD it’s implied that Seasmoke was hatched, but in the book is says that they were bonded by the time Laenor was 7 which seems to indicate that Seasmoke was claimed)
Laena Velaryon with Vhagar
Book Rhaenyra Targaryen with Syrax (in HOTD it's implied that she was hatched, but in the book she was most likely claimed)
Helaena Targaryen with Dreamfyre
Aegon II Targaryen with Sunfyre
Daeron Targaryen with Tessarion (it sounds like Tessarion was most likely claimed but she could have been hatched)
Aemond Targaryen with Vhagar
Hugh Hammer with Vermithor
Ulf the White with Silverwing
Addam of Hull with Seasmoke
Book Nettles with Sheepstealer
Book Rhaena Targaryen (daughter of Daemon) with Morning? (Technically, Rhaena did hatch her; however, Morning wasn't a cradle egg, and Rhaena was older, so I’m not sure if “born with” fits here. Also in the book, Rhaena had a cradle egg that hatched, but the dragon only lived for a few hours)
that iodine deficient four-eyed illiterate twat is therefore implying that rhaenyra wanted to kill off her sons just like alicent, since her (show only) craddle egg derived "golden" (piss coloured shit that looks like one of the Eragon abominations) provided her with a late term abortion of Joffrey, that's how so tight she and syrax were.
And yet when this Mother of Dragons met her end...
what do you think of the now popular fan theory that rhaenyra’s usurpation caused the downfall of dragons and magic because targaryen women are the source of their houses magic and thus it was a punishment to house targaryen and the realm for usurping a targaryen women and all of this actually kickstarted the long night as a cosmic punishment to the realm, and that’s why a woman daenerys succeeded in birthing the dragons where other targaryen men failed
It's kind of perplexing that there's a subset of this fandom that is genuinely expecting a divine feminine narrative from a 77 year old white man. This is George RR Martin we're talking about, not Marion Zimmer Bradley (and thank god for that). But beyond that, it's very depressing to me that in 2026 there are fans who even want a divine feminine narrative from asoiaf. Worse, some fans seem to have decided that reducing a woman to her gender and making that gender the reason for some divine intervention, rather than any personal quality she might have (which is clearly the case with Dany because while yes, she's a princess rather than a prince, yes her gender was a genre subversion in 1995, her gender is not the source of her miracle), is somehow progressive. But it gets worse because in fact, the divine feminine theorizing surrounding Rhaenyra is often specifically tied to her fertility, which is biologically essentialist at best, misogynistic at worst. It isn't 1985 anymore and society had at one point moved beyond the need for sacred womb magic, yet here we are.
Anyway, the usual version of this theory that I see involves Rhaenyra's death causing the deaths of the dragons. It causing the Long Night is a new one that I imagine is coming mostly from people who have seen the Amethyst Empress legend (likely in fan edits because it's literally one page in the lore book and nothing else) but who have not read the actual series, since the Long Night has not even started yet in the main timeline and Rhaenyra has been dead for nearly 200 years. There's not even correlation here, much less causation. And if we're talking about the death of the dragons, the Dance itself hastened their downfall, but there's not hint in the books that it was Rhaenyra's death in particular which sparked some magic event (now, if we want to talk about how the the trauma of losing almost his entire family to dragons, watching his own dragon die, and finally seeing his mother eaten by a dragon might have caused Aegon III to collude with the maesters to poison the last dragons, then sure, in a cycles keep cycling way, Rhaenyra's death might have "caused" the death of the dragons, but not in a magical sense). Also, the reading of the death of the dragons as some cataclysmic event on the scale of the long night is dubious at best. After all, there's an entire world out there full of people who are not Targaryens for whom not having dragons around is arguably better than having them.
I could make a much longer post about how Rhaenyra being magical or her womb being magical and connected to dragon fertility is pure fanon, and how it involves a ignoring large swaths of the text and focusing on small bits in isolation, and how how George, who is childless himself, who wrote Dany as infertile, is hardly going to write female fertility as some source of magic, and how the idea of the gods stirring themselves on behalf of Rhaenyra, who has been complicit in atrocities against innocent women and children, is frankly insulting, and how all of this detracts from Dany, by making her story simply a righting of the wrong done to Rhaenyra, who is simply not that important in the grand scheme of things by the time the main story rolls around.
But I think people who are buying into these theories should really just read the books, all of them. Not just F&B, not just WOIAF, but the whole entire ASOIAF series as well as the Dunk & Egg stories. If someone isn't cured of this delusion after reading the source material, then they're beyond help and are really just at that point not actually interested in ASOIAF itself but rather some version of it they've concocted in their heads.

It actually kinda pisses me off that every time there’s an adaptation of some classic work coming out, there are takes like “maybe we should not judge the adaptation compared to the original”… I think if the creator doesn’t want their work to be compared and judged on comparison, they can make literally any other type of piece. I’m not arguing for a word for word adaptation - I think those are impossible, first of all, and just not fun to strive for. But slapping a recognisable title, names and plots into your work, and then turning around and asking people not to compare your work to the original is simply absurd lol
